From the viewing to the interment, every detail was handled with professionalism and genuine kindness. Stephanie, especially, made us feel like family every step of the way and consistently went above and beyond to ensure arrangements were seamless, comforting, and thoughtful. Eric also did an excellent job in his role, and together they make a wonderful team--each carrying significant responsibility with dignity and grace. If you are planning a funeral for a loved one, or even preparing arrangements in advance (as my parents did, which spared us many difficult decisions later), I cannot recommend them enough. Stay away. This company was sued and forced to exhume a body after double selling a plot. (Google it. There is an article on WRAL from 2019.) They did the same to my family. My parents bought a plot only to discover, in the days right after my father passed away and we were grieving from that, that Montlawn had buried someone else in that plot. I wonder how many other families have suffered this indignity? They will not return phone calls or emails to answer questions regarding the status of my dad's grave marker. He was a veteran and deserves much more than this. read more

A good friend of mine passed away recently and was laid to rest at Montlawn. I was unable to attend the burial so I actually no idea where her grave was. It is not a small place and the funeral was so recent they hadn't installed the headstone yet. The staff were incredibly helpful. It took some doing but they helped me locate my friend's resting place. I was able to properly pay my respects and now I know how to get to her anytime I want to come visit. The staff at the front desk and the grounds crew went the extra mile to help me out. Very professional, very kind, friendly people. Grief is challenging enough to navigate. The good people at Montlawn made it a little bit easier for me. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. They got my MIL's name wrong on the obituary, then on the slide show, then on the death certificate. We gave them her legal name several times. We even sent them the corrections which they never made. When we got the death certificates they were wrong. It's been a nightmare getting it all fixed. Communication is horrible. It's been almost 3 months since the funeral and we still have not been able to close her estate due to paperwork errors. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. We experieced disappointing service at Montlawn. I had prepaid for my parents grave marker as well as grave opening and closing fees. When we arrived for the burial service I was shocked to see that the vault cover wasn't what I chose and my Mom's name was mispelled on it. A golf cart was needed to take one member of the family with mobility issues to the grave site. We found that Montlawn doesn't keep their golf cart in service on a regular basis. They managed to get the broken one repaired within the week in time for the graveside service, but they didn't have anyone to drive it at the time the burial was to start. Over a half hour later, they found someone to drive the cart, but the family and guests were drenched in sweat while waiting in the heat of July to start the graveside service. Consequently, everyone had to go to the church service and reception all sweaty. It's been a year and four months since then. Her death date has yet to be engraved on her marker and there's no grass growing over the red clay where she was buried. Continuing as my Mom, Patti Hamilton Regina came back in and told us we no longer had to work with Julie but would be working with Amanda going forward. It took Amanda a bit to come to the conference room. When she did, the contract was wrong. She left to correct it. I then noticed that there was no contract for me at the time and she again had to leave. About 20 mins later, she returned with a contract for my plot. We discussed and I agreed. Amanda stated that I would be able to make payments but she had to step away to figure out the amounts...crazy as all she had to do was divide the total by 12 and the amount would be there. It took another 30 minutes for her to come back. The funeral itself was beautifully done and very professional by Regina and her team. They rock it. However, I would never recommend Everstory team for anyone to work with. During my visit back with Sean and Erin to discuss in person the Julie event, I was told I would get 15% off funeral, plot and marker/headstone. When I arrived yesterday I was told this never happened. However, I did ask for it in writing and Sean told me there was no need as he and Erin are both in person and will honor his words...NOPE!! Erin said conversation wasn't had. You may ask why I let this place be my husband's final resting place still...because our grandson is there. How can a funeral home have so little compassion and empathy? I strongly recommend services here but do not bury your loved one! read more

First comment, pay attention to the dates of the "good" reviews, they are NOT recent... and there is a reason. In short though, Montlawn should be avoided at all costs, at one time they were a top notch organization, but whoever made that happen has apparently long gone. For us, Montlawn managed to lose the actual paper version of the paperwork for the pre-needs selections, managed not to file it with the Funeral Commission (or whatever the body is named) even though they took money for filing it years ago. Ultimately it took more than 3 1/2 hours to rectify this in person at their office, getting the paperwork redone. This is not the experience you want just after a loved one had died. They told us that the entire staff had been replaced, but I rather think they left due to horrible back-end systems and poor management. To be clear, the Cemetery part were top-notch, its the Funeral home aspect (casket, etc.) that is horrible. I will say the actual ceremony went reasonably well, but was a bit disorganized as the family walked from the chapel to the grave site because no one "in charge" seemed to know how to tell us a car was taking us. (it drove up empty to the grave site though, after all we did pay a few hundred dollars for it). In short.... work with the Cemetery folks, but have the other aspects done at a different funeral home. read more

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT USE THIS CEMETERY!!!! My son's marker was ordered in July 2020. I inquired about an update in Aug & we were then informed of a spacing error causing delay.  After a rude & unprofessional callback from Michael  Oakley,  the General Mngr Cathy Marsh got involved to keep us from going to corporate. Spotty responses & missed deadlines led to finally getting a marker Nov 2, 2020 (see Pic A & C.) ONLY TO FIND OUT ITS IN THE WRONG PLACE OR HIS BODY IS IN THE WRONG PLACE. They have him in two places. (See Pic D) This is devastating; alcohol on a wound that still healing! We're beyond upset, frustrated and angry. My family and I deserve HONEST professional service and a 75% refund on THE TOTAL FINANCIAL EXPENSE PAID! My family was greiving my son at a plot (Pic B) that is now said to be a Mr. Carlos who's temporary marker was placed in front of my son's on November 9, 2020. read more

My parents bought burial plots from Montlawn several years ago and we had a smooth, positive experience when my dad passed away in 2012. However my mother died on January 6, 2022 and here we sit, one year later, and they still have not installed the marker at her gravesite. They were insistent on being paid in full for services prior to burial which I had no problem with due to the nature of the business. But if someone insists that you pay them for a service, they have an obligation to provide that service in a timely manner. I have made repeated calls over the last year and even drove 3 hours to talk with someone in person but they had no one that could/would meet with me. When I have reached someone besides the receptionist, I get excuses and promises that are unfulfilled. I thought we might have been an exception but after reading reviews, it appears that over the past two years, sloppy business practices and poor customer service are the norm for Montlawn. read more

Until last year (2021) our family has thought that Montlawn Cemetery in Raleigh, N.C. was a premier cemetery. Our family has owned plots there since 1967. My father was entombed there in 2012 without any problems. Our experience over the last year has greatly changed our perspective of Montlawn. My wife passed away on March 29, 2021. I met with Mike later that week, to sign the contract and preview a monument for my wife. I told Mike I would show it to my daughters and order it soon. Mike came to my house on April 2nd, the day of the funeral, because he had done something wrong on the contract that had to be corrected before entombment. I met with Mike again on or about April 19th and placed the monument order. Mike told me it would take about 3 to 4 months for the monument to arrive. On July 13th I met with Mike when he shared, in his words "THE ORDER HAD SLIPPED THROUGH THE CRACKS". After looking at the proof sheet again I found a wrong birth date and incorrect spacing on some of the wording. I placed a new order and waited for it to arrive. After numerous non-returned phone calls, I was told the monument would arrive around the first of the year. After more non-returned phone calls, I went to the cemetery in mid-January 2022. I was told the monument was there, but they only had one person to install it and it should take about a week or so for it to be installed. I went back to the cemetery in mid-February, after more non-returned phone calls and was told that they had NO projected install date. I called on February 23rd and asked someone to take a picture of the monument. I have the photo now, but I still have no projected install date. I know that Covid 19 has affected the whole process of everything in the world, but it should not affect the professionalism of any business - especially yours. My father in law passed away Feb 2021. He was a veteran and entitled to a veterans marker. The marker and granite was ordered in March. The granite has not yet been put down. We have been lied to and false promises made to rectify the issue. This company is non responsive and not reliable. If there is a choice I would stay away. read more

If you care about closure for a loved one, do not go to this place. In my family's dealings with them, they've greatly mistreated us by not providing the tombstone in a timely manner and not providing any financial compensation for the delay. read more

It feels sort of strange Yelping a funeral home but like so many other strange Yelps of mine, I have to give credit where credit is due. Last week, my grandfather passed away. Luckily, he and my grandmother had made all of their arrangements with Montlawn a few years ago so most of the tasks that would have been very hard for the family were already taken care of. I feel fortunate that I do not have a lot of experiences with funeral homes, and hope to continue that trend, but the staff of Montlawn were phenomenal. The staff took care of all of the arrangements prompting a few task items that needed to be settled such as the length of the funeral service, songs to be included, details about the Pastor who would preside, etc. They walked the family through everything, literally making it so we did not have to think at all about what to do that day. There were times when the staff would simply come up to us and say, "it is time for you to walk into this room" or "you can sit over here and wait". There was no thinking involved, which is a good thing because it seems to be one of the most difficult things to do in a situation such as the passing of a funeral home. Montlawn was an all-inclusive service provider, taking care of the preparation of my grandfather, the visitation service, the funeral service in their chapel, and then the graveside service at their cemetery. I have a few other family members buried at Montlawn and it has always been a peaceful place to visit, and also serves as a calming place to take walks, which I have seen many do before. After the service, the staff even delivered the plants that were not left at the graveside to my grandmother's home and set them up for her. If you have the unfortunate need for funeral services, I would highly recommend Montlawn. My husband and I want to be cremated once our demise comes and they take care of that service also. It is a one-stop-shop for funeral arrangements. I mean that in the most serious way possible. read more

A family member passed away last week. Upon arriving to the funeral home, the outside was nice and the staff was friendly and welcoming. However there was no seating for guests, no kneeler in front of the casket to share some thoughts with the deceased or say a prayer, no prayer cards, items had been forgotten or never received in delivery (excuse was that they have no mailbox and mail can come to any one of their doors). Place just seemed unorganized and the room was unwelcoming and not very comforting to the mourning family. I know I am from NY but I just feel like wakes/viewings/funerals should be the same no matter what and they should be what you pay for. This is not something that you can get a do-over for.
