We hadn't been here in a while (use to be our go to place before Covid) but I have to say I was so impressed w the difference in the food, service and everything since our last visit. Jennifer was an incredible server and attention to detail was remarkable. Our pizza was by far better than I ever even remember it being. And the meals, salads and apps were exceptional. I dk what changed but it was nice to see its back to the same expectations it was 15yrs ago. Our friends had driven down from North Florida and always remembered when we took them here and it did not disappoint. We were worried that it wouldn't meet their memory but boy did it and we have to say if your remember how Monty's use to be give it a shot again and be pleasantly surprised to see how much they have brought their standards up. I have been here like 7 years ago, it's like a family business, pizza it's good, good one for takeout as we were in a rush, but service it's good over there, didn't know but they do have plates, not just pizza. Thin and crispy crust, just on my taste was a bit too oily and missing some cheese on the Margherita side, but it's an good option and not expensive. Atmosphere it's good too. read more

I have to thank Yelpers for finding this place, as I had never heard about it before. Monty's is definitely a classic, old-school, red sauce Italian joint that has been around since 1982. So I decided to finally try them and get a large take-out "The Nancy" pizza with pepperoni and onion. My order when ready when I arrived and the service was fast and friendly. They also gave me a small discount for paying with cash. The pizza was good with an excellent, crispy crust, and tasty sauce, but it had less cheese than I would have preferred. It was priced a bit less than other pizzas in the area, but it was just for a 16-inch. I guess I am used to regularly paying more for 18-inch pizzas elsewhere. The dining area is almost a snapshot in time, giving off pizza joint vibes of many extinct places I enjoyed when I was younger. For me, the pizza was just a 3.5. The slices were too small to be the floppy, foldable true NY style that is so very rare here. BUT, after 42 years in business? They must be doing things right and just maybe I caught them on an "off" night? So I'll bump them up a half of a star. I've lived in Clearwater for over 30 years and have gone to Monty's many times. I have to say that while they have very good italian food (lasagna, parmesans, subs and salads), the current star of the show is pizza. Went to an early dinner, and the pizza today was as good as it has ever been. the crust is cooked right (crispy on the bottom, softer on top), with excellent sauce. just the right amount of cheese and pepperoni. I know that on Tuesday Monty's has stuffed peppers, so will be back for those before too long. I did mention the upgrade in pizza to the new owner! read more

Never been a huge fan of the pizza at Montys's but the other choices in the menu are great. It's a busy shop, along the side of a strip center; off the beaten path. It's a busy place, filled with locals whom the service team know by name. Orders taken quickly. Service is fast - even with fresh prep of the entrees, service in less than 15 minutes from order. Tried one of the daily specials, spinach ravioli. 8 ravioli to the order, these are boiled perfectly... Not crunchy and not mushy. Filled is a beautiful blend of chopped spinach and cheese. Topped with a ladle of gorgeous tomato sauce. The sauce is slightly sweet, the spinach tart and earthy and the cheese creamy. An excellent combination. Pro tip: reserve a little of that sauce to dip the bread in... You won't be disappointed. read more

The service kept up with my every request and I'm thankful for everything that they have done! My pizza was not thick, it was "NY" Style and flexible. Growing up in NYC a pizzeria was just that, a place where you grab a slice or a pie, some soda, and then you're either eating with limited seating or taking it to go. While I grew up around great pizza, I didn't grow up around these family establishments which become staples of the community and that's what Monty's is. I've eaten here a bunch, mostly to go until just recently where my family all came in for some delicious Italian-American food, including pizza. First, the pizza, it's Connecticut style I guess? They have a thing up there but regardless it's really good pizza, the best in Pinellas county? Probably not but it's a solid pie/slice with or without toppings, think crunchy exterior, slightly plush interior, and a sauce that's a mix of sweet and tangy, it's great. The other things like Lasagna and Ravioli are also really, really good, especially with well cooked pasta and bread you can't stop munching on. Draft beer also hits the spot but it's that throwback family oriented restaurant feel that really wins along with the exceptional service, the staff is nice, direct, and quick to give input and land your meal infront of you. The variety of tables, bar top, and booths are great for groups of all sizes and I can see why they have so many regulars in this well known Go-to. read more

I was craving pizza...Sardo's is way cross town ( Brooklyn N Y Pizza for an old New Yorker!) and my back-up Beach Pizza. I thought let me try Monty's so I can come pick it up nearer to home. The place was buzzing... I ordered a 10" pizza plain. Got home in five minutes left everything in the car but the Pizza. Washed my hands gave the pizza 30 seconds in the microwave and pulled off a slice. It was awful... and I was hungry... I tried to eat more...I forced down one slice. I questioned the cheese??? The sauce??? The Crust??? I thought maybe this is one of those frozen pizzas you get at the supermarket ...maybe they heat them up and box them up??? This can't be real cheese! I decided to check reviews on here and see that it gets rave reviews??? I threw it all in a shopping bag and then the outside garbage can and the box in recycle... 6 months ago, I would have. Not any more. Don't order a cheese pizza and ask for extra garlic. Every other time I have ordered, I have been charged once. Everywhere I have ever ordered, charged once. Sardos, Delosas, Mikes.. not Montys. They charge you twice cause you said the word extra. Heaven knows what they do if you say extra cheese.. they compared the charge to that. I was with an 85 yr old woman who ordered a tuna shichetta. They asked her if she wanted pickle. She said ok Then asked if she wanted chips. She said ok. As a norm, if your sandwich is 15.99, a 1/4 of dill pickle and a handful of "members mark" chips comes w that. Not here. 85 yr old was charged 1.99 for a 1/4 of a pickle and 1.79 for a handful of chips. I could have taken her to Outback for less. After 10 min of waiting for ck to be picked up... Just tried their pasta Alfredo with shrimp and broccoli. It was delicious. The Alfredo sauce was perfectly seasoned and the shrimp and broccoli were nicely done as well. Appreciated the garlic bread that came with the order. Also very tasty. Will definitely be ordering this again. read more

I learned my lesson from our last adventure here: arrive early or just do takeout! Tonight I'm doing both. Their seating is incredibly old, cramped and uncomfortable. For that matter, so is the rest of this dump. Spend a few shekels on some updates, guys! Meantime, as we just got outta the movies and it's a Lenten Friday, we decided on a pizza: easy enough. No booze during Lent either, so no beer or cocktails either. See how this works? The guy on the phone said to allow 20-25 minutes. They still have that annoyingly long and drawn out greeting before they say dial this number for that and that number for the other. It's a pizza place for God's sake! I just hit a preemptive "0" and our boy answered the damn phone. I walked in after 20 min. or so and there it was just going in the box. I ordered a medium "Patty," BTW. When I saw the size of the box and looked at the pie, I was shocked to hear "$17" from counter boy/phone dude (I recognized the voice). After I had my stroke, we went home to eat, thinking out loud that next time I'll just spend the measly $2 more and get a LARGE pie. Patty is their white pie with spinach added. I already know we like it, and tonight was no exception. The olive oil, high quality "mutz" and ricotta are good counterpoint for their very chewy albeit thin crust. I asked for it well done, and they complied nicely. Spinach really takes it over the top and there was a decent amount too. We will definitely have one of these buggers again. I must confess we still had three slices left. My excuse is that "it's Lent...no eat like pig!" I know I could knock a whole one off solo, but anyway...it was still nom noms. Went to Monty's Pizzeria last night around 6 PM. It was busy due to the holiday week, and I understand the bar area is small with limited seating. As my two friends and I were heading toward the bar, another patron walking in overheard us, rushed over, and claimed two extra seats, even though no one was with him. One of the waitresses at the bar greeted him, turned her back toward us, and began talking to him while ignoring us. When we asked about sitting at the bar, she told us people were coming, said we'd have to wait until another patron left, and then completely ignored us. After that, another waitress told us to "sit anywhere," but once we sat a a table, we were ignored again. Frustrated, we decided to leave and go elsewhere. I've been coming to Monty's regularly for a year and thought I should be considered a regular, but it seems this server only prioritizes certain people as I have witnessed this in the past. I didn't expect to be treated so poorly. The way we were ignored left a bad impression. I'm not sure I'll be returning. read more

I ordered a hot Italian hoagie. It is one of the best around and they top it off with a few pieces of pepperoni on the melted cheese. The service was excellent and I highly recommend it! I have been going to Monty's for over 30 years and I hate to give a bad review . I ordered takeout last night 2/8/25 for a calzone when I got it it was the wrong order so I called and spoke to someone who then said they would send another correct calzone out to me. the one i got was correct except it was half the size of their usual calzone thus, I called again , I spoke with the owner ( I guess) and told him. he said that it was the same. that they all are the same even when I tried to explain it was not he just did not seem to care. I don't know this person and maybe they are new owners but I don't think I'll go back. Definitely 5 stars for this family owned business! Monty's has been around forever and we have eaten here twice I just can't believe it. The place reminds me of an old school pizza joint. The food is delicious especially their calzone's. It comes with ham and mozzarella and a side of sauce but you can add additional toppings to it. And did I mention that it is gigantic and inexpensive!! The family that owns the restaurant is super friendly and the owner will even get out there and help serve and clean tables. There is a mini bar that you can sit at and have a beer or wine. Super casual place but yummy food. read more

Yeah, boi!!!! Another fantabulous find. Sweet little Italian spot off of Nursery with great service and an amazing Chef!!! We started with a mini pepperoni pizza. Mini indeed. I wouldn't give the crust to my dog...CAUSE I ATE IT!!! I'm not a big crust eater, but this one is light and delicious. I love my dog, but I'd throw paws for this crust. My husband had the calzone which he RAVED about. This man will talk for hours about his experiences with good and bad calzones. I'm sure he'll brag about this one. I had the delicious and juicy chicken Alfredo with broccoli and mushrooms. WOO LAWD!!! Did I tell you the chicken was juicy?!?!?! The entire dish was yummy. Everything they served was so good. We ordered 2 pizzas for takeout. The first pizza was the Nancy - just a pepperoni pizza with onions. I thought this pizza was below average as far as pepperoni pizzas go. The second pizza we ordered was their Buffalo chicken pizza. One of my friends hates Bleu cheese so we asked if we could get half of the Buffalo chicken pizza with blue cheese as described on the menu and the other half with feta instead. My friend even clarified the order once when he heard the guy say "half Buffalo half feta" to ensure that it was clear. Guess what we got? Half regular Buffalo pizza as described on the menu, and half a regular cheese pizza with feta on it. I will say feta was a surprisingly delicious topping on its own and I thoroughly enjoyed both sides of the pizza, but it wasnt what we asked for, which kinda sucked. Ordered a small Sicilian pizza w/ onions & black olive. The pizza was smaller than expected. Crust was heavy, almost as if the yeast didn't rise. The crust was not what this New Yorker would expect when ordering a Sicilian. Sauce seemed to be standard canned, onion was scant, so predominantly it was an olive pizza. All this for $30. Best Pizza we have had in the area! We have tried several pizza places since moving here from Chicago and this one is one of the best! We placed a takeout order for 2 pizzas. A cheese for the kids and the Monty. They were both delicious! When we picked up the restaurant was packed which is always a great sign that the food is going to be good.
