My wife and I were passing through Hollis since we were looking at homes and decided to stop in for a late lunch on a Saturday p.m. We ordered two Honey Bee specialty sandwiches and bought a big bag of pop chips. The market is located in the heart of Hollis across from the village green. The sandwiches were tasty and the bread it came on was excellent. Fresh Italian bread. We sat and enjoyed our sandwiches at a table up against the front window and people watched. The service was very good and friendly. There was an excellent selection of sandwiches to satisfy all appetites. Prices were reasonable, especially coming from New Jersey. Parking was a challenge since the local church was in session. If and when we ever move to town, we will be sure to visit again. read more

Subs are very good -- a few negative reviews on here about the subs, but to be honest, I feel like they out the right amount of meat on it for the style sub they make. The pizza there is terrible--it's not fully cooked. The customer service was great, though, with lots of nice young people working. But the owners were so rude. The whole time I was there, the owner was yelling at all the teenagers, which made it really uncomfortable. I can't support a business where the owner treats their employees that way, so I won't be buying pizza or anything else from their market again! read more

I typically get pizzas here. I've tried sandwiches a few times but despite the fact they have pretty good sub rolls, there's hardly any meat so really you're just getting a meat-flavored sandwich. Much better options in the local area which isn't even a compliment considering none of them are remotely impressive. Normally the pizza here is pretty decent. And I think more than ever, it's hard to find good help or so I'm told. But today, after a long and crappy week at work, I wanted to get a pizza on my way home so I called in an order for an 18" (large) pizza here. Nothing complicated at all. Wait time was ~30 min according to the girl on the phone. I did ask for "a little extra sauce" as the pizzas here are typically drier than what I'm accustomed to. Showed up to pick up my large pizza and it turns out the order was botched and they made a small pizza. The gentleman was prepared to start the order over and I just wasn't willing to wait another 30 minutes (mentioned it was a long week and I was tired and hungry) and so I just agreed to the small pizza. I find it SUPER strange that not only did the gentleman NOT apologize for the order getting botched but didn't have the customer service ethic to offer any form of an incentive to keep my business ("please accept a free drink for the mistake" or "we'll take $3 off the price for the error"). I should add that the request for a little extra sauce seemed to result in a request for less sauce. And so, I'm now in search of a new pizza place because my normal Hollis go-to just hasn't earned my patronage. And my opinion is they don't deserve anyone else's either. read more

I wanted to give a higher review. I do not know what happened, but it was not the usual quality. They forgot the lettuce, tomato and bacon. Not much left of a sandwich after that. Still thinking about it days later, believe it or not. It is not a cheap sandwich. And the owner was there, so not sure why a second pair of eyes didn't see this? Barely any cheese on the pizza - it tasted mainly of vegetable. I hope next time it is back to normal standards. read more

I really enjoy the pizza and pastrami sandwiches (though I haven't had the pastrami in a few years). The deep dish pizza is excellent with cappicola, spinach, mushroom, garlic, and onion. If you're swinging in for a quick lunch, they make great slices and the price is fair enough. They usually have a different topping slices in addition to cheese and pepperoni. On the way home he said he wanted a sandwich shop we came across this place and needless to say we order from here either every Friday or Saturday or both!! It's very hard to make a living at a small pizza shop / local market. They don't have a pizza oven, it's a running conveyor with heat bars at the top, like a toaster oven. Doesn't make for a very good pizza. The sandwiches are sub-par, they boast Boar's Head meats which we love, but the quality isn't so great. Often fatty and chewy. I question whether or not they actually use Boar's Head. The owner is looking tired and it comes across in his personality. read more

We order "extra cheese" just to get something reasonably close to what is standard everywhere else. And those subs, oh boy, can you really be any more stingy with those ingredients? Excellent, creative subs! I have had the "Brooklyn" which is fried eggplant, fresh mozzarella, pesto and tomato on a baguette. How unique and tasty! Also the "Michael" is pretty amazing with prociutto (sp?) and roasted red peppers on a baguette. I'm probably forgetting some ingredients. Whatever they are, it is heavenly. One of my favorite local places for a good sub sandwich. The roll they use is really good. I'm partial to their chicken salad and my wife loves the "Bull Run" (roast beef, cheddar, lettuce, onion, tomatos, and horseradish). They also have a very decent beer selection way beyond your Bud, Coors, and Miller. I have picked up Dogfish Head, Old speckled hen, St. Peter's stout, and Murphy's. (Be aware that some of these "specialty microbrews" don't move to fast at this shop, so don't be surprised if you beer is not as fresh as your expect.) Both the sandwiches and beer is a little pricey (but then again, beer has jumped considerably in recent months). Be sure to pick up a couple of individual side dishes displayed next to the counter (I highly recommend the Asian cold noodles). I haven't sampled the pizza yet, but I hear it is very good. read more

A small convenience store set near Hollis center that also serves quality subs/sandwiches and pizza. Their subs are a few notches better than your typical pizza/sub (or grindahhh) shop. I like the bread they use. I am fond of the meatball sub and their specialty sandwich called "The Michaels" (prosciutto, roasted peppers, basil, olive oil). The pizza is pretty good too, very large thin crusted pies resulting in the type of slice you need to fold up and eat (except those with true 'man hands'). Monument Sq. Market has a good selection of beer in the cooler, from lawnmower beers to quality craft brews like Smuttynose, Harpoon 100 Barrel series and Hoegaarden. They also have wine and a small offering of cigars. A good combo would be hiking Beaver Brook which is very close by and then grabbing a slice or sub at Monument. There is a small little town square with benches across the street is an ideal place to eat your sandwich on a crisp New England fall day. They also server breakfast sandwiches, and some other homemade treats like cookies and muffins. read more

Horrible service. My friends and I were yelled at to social distance when we already were. We were then cussed out for not wearing a mask, when there is no sign saying so. Some very good specialty sandwiches (Boar's Head meats!) and pizza (3-4 stars for those) but if you call in a basic order, be careful. I had a large Italian sub that was barely anything but bread. They must have been running low on ingredients because it barely had any meat on it, much less tomato or pickle (neatly laid in a perfect row, no overlapping or bunching) and a SINGLE leaf of lettuce on each end! I thought maybe some penny-pinching Grandma had made it, scrimping on ingredients. What is this- the depression? A large Italian in most places is PACKED with lots of ingredients, overflowing with tomatoes and pickles. At the many other places I buy an Italian hero, that's exactly how they are made (double in NYC!) but this was just a delicious hero with corporate-rationed ingredients. Booooo! I asked the owner why there wasn't meat on the last two inches of my sandwich on both sides and a employee responded "don't like it..then don't come back! And tell your friends too."
