Curtis was the photographer for our wedding ceremony a few years ago so when we decided to have family photos taken for the holiday, we immediately thought of him. He was able to accommodate our four legged family members as well which was very important to us. Once again, he did an amazing job and we can't wait to work with him in the future. We highly recommend his service. **Something we just learned was that all of our family photos came with a "unedited" watermark unlike wedding and event photos. You are allotted 10 photos to have edited (included w. your fee) but every additional photo will have to be edited and comes with an additional cost. For example if you have 30 photos altogether, you picked your top ten you'd like to have edited and want the other 20 for your photo album, you will have to pay for those photos without the watermark. We still recommend his services but it could turn into a $1000 expense if you like all of your photos like we did. read more

I hired MooD-ology photography for my event this past Saturday. It was my private gumbo party for my friends to say goodbye as a going away party. There were about 50 invited guest. Although I knew everyone would be snapping photos, I did not want to worry about capturing the moments, I just wanted to enjoy my guest. Curtis was on time, quite friendly, and extremely professional! Once the party was in full force, I could relax, enjoy and mingle with my guest, and not worry about missing a thing. I think Moodology is an ironic name for this business. The only mood sparked during our session was melancholy. It's important that a photographer be able to help you show some sort of expression/emotion in your photos but the energy during our shoot wasn't positive at all. It felt unnerving. *this wasn't a groupon purchase* We got photos we can work with but I'm giving 2 stars for: - Attitude. He was just up-leastant to work with, all around. - Timing. It took 2 weeks to get our photos back. - Editing. After 2 weeks, I still need to go to fiverr for editing. - Professionalism. You're required to sign a waiver before given a chance to read it. Behind the scenes footage is recorded without your knowledge or permission. The negative attitude is unprofessional. We expected to shoot for 30 minutes each, but instead were given 20 shots each. You pay up front and cross your fingers & hope for good results. I don't do professional photography often but I'll need more headshots for my colleagues. The most off-putting part of this experience was the attitude & energy. I would have returned for more if Curtis was a bit more pleasant to work with. :( I don't like writing bad reviews. read more

Even unedited photos turned out GREAT Edit @ 10/31 -- my friend living in NY showed my daughter's photos to her colleagues. One person said the photograph with little mermaid outfit is the cutest baby pic they have ever seen. A lady said " she's so cute and I wanna bite her". Let me start this off by saying I do not enjoy taking photos. I just don't feel I photograph well. After careful consideration, I had my headshot taken here which I need for my line of work. When you first walk in to the building, you wonder if your at the right place. But as you enter the studio, you soon see that you are. Curtis has a nice studio setup. He welcomes you in and has you take a seat. Goes over what you will be doing while you sign some paperwork. He has a good persona and makes you feel comfortable quickly. As you look around, you see his work on the walls and there are some great shots. Nice atmosphere. The studio session went surprisingly well considering how nervous I felt during the shoot. Nervous about how the pics were going to turn out that is. He allowed me to change as many times as I liked and gave advice when asked. When your done, he lets you pick out the best 5, at least with headshots. After receiving my pics, I couldn't be much happier. I did touch up a pic or 2 to add more color to my skin tone but the shots came out great. Curtis made the impossible happen, I was actually happy with my photos! Don't hesitate. A few friends of mine had taken some pictures with Curtis the photographer, and I thought that I would give him a try. He's really nice, was on time, and very patient with my 2 year old son. My son doesn't respond well to everyone, so when he said cheese and followed Curtis' commands, I knew he was a winner. All of the pictures taken were given to me on a cd and he edited 5 of my favorites. He gave me a timeframe of 10 business days and processed them in 5 days instead. I was very impressed. Purchased a Groupon for a family photo shoot. Our experience was ok. First, the studio was just a plain white back drop, nothing special. The photographer Curtis pulled out some stools for us to sit on to change it up a bit, but over all I felt the set was pretty lackluster. Curtis was not very friendly. We tried chatting but he didn't seem interested in making friends. He was all business. There are three of us in our family including my two-year old son. Unfortunately, Curtis was not available to shoot earlier in the day, and our time slot coincided with our son's nap time. So as you can imagine, he was pretty grumpy. Curtis did not seem to have a lot of patience for working with an irritable toddler. Although he did not outwardly say anything, it was pretty obvious that he was annoyed. I imagine he's a great photographer for adults, but I would not recommend him for a family photo shoot. I also didn't love some of the angles he took of my face. However, he did manage to get a few really nice shots in, so overall I'm happy with my purchase. I also did appreciate how quickly he returned our images to us. I wouldn't spend more than what I did with the Groupon deal however. read more

Absolutely awful. Are these other reviewers reviewing the same place? We spent $50 on a groupon for a 30 minute family photo shoot with this photographer. When scheduling, we couldn't get an appointment until 2 months out because we were using a voucher and wanted a weekend appointment. When our appointment finally arrived, we were disappointed at the rundown building the studio is in. The photographer was 10 minutes late, and I was forced to carry my baby's stroller up two flights of stairs to get to the studio. When we finally entered the studio, we were presented with a ridiculous waiver permitting the use of the photographs for virtually any use, including commercialization. If this was just a waiver to use the photographs as examples of his work, that would be fine, but that was not the case. I could not sign this onerous agreement, and that was the end of the session. There was no offer for a refund, and no notice at any point that this groupon was contingent upon the photographer's use of the material for commercialization. He indicated that he only received $25 of the $50 groupon, and that it wasn't financially lucrative to do the shoot without the waiver. He did indicate that he would let us transfer the voucher to someone else, although I am not exercising that option as I wouldn't want to give any of my friends or family this "gift." All I wanted was a few photos with my wife and son, and now I am out $50 and have wasted a bunch of time. Total scam. read more

I've used a few professional photographers over the years, Curtis and his makeup artist are absolutely fabulous and they make you look fabulous. They make sure you feel relaxed and a part of the Family, not just a customer. Price packaging is quite competative and frankly, they're just fun to hang around the studio with! GZ is not simply vampirically in the business just to make money, they are firm supporters of the community including holding fund raisers, at their expense, for charities such as breast cancer. This was my first photo shoot (ever in life) and it was very difficult for me to get comfortable in front of the camera (because of my own insecurities) but Curtis and his staff were GREAT!!! i purchased a headshot package through groupon. It was difficult to make an appointment. I finally had to go through groupon as I was not getting my calls or emails returned by the photographer. I finally booked an appointment for June (in March). We arrived, and the first words out of the photographers mouth were, "where is the voucher". The session was professional, but perfunctory. He made no effort to make my daughter comfortable. He did not engage with her at all, just gave brief direction regarding the shots. we chose 5 shots and they were sent to us as a zip file in about a week. We did not get to keep any of the other shots he took. I would not return, nor would I recommend. There are better experiences available. read more

This is just a review for ease of scheduling and customer service- I did not make it to the photography stage. I left a message in February to schedule a head shot. No call back. I called in April to follow up. The person answering the phone was a bit abrupt. Starting off with "is this with a voucher?" I then got the customer service that corresponded to an arachnophobe providing spiders with free massages. "What time works for you?" After asking for some times next week. I was told that they were booked three weeks out (then why did he ask me what dates worked best for me?). I asked if we could be put on a wait list. He said that people cancel last minute. Naively, I said "That's ok, we live in Oakland! We can make it over last minute." Obviously I was not getting the gist. He qualified that they either clients did not cancel, or cancelled very last minute. At this point, I am getting the slight feeling that perhaps he doesn't want to do the photo shoot... I am going to ask Groupon to refund my certificate. But dear MooD-ology: If you hate doing Groupons... don't sign up to do a Groupon! We all know you don't get paid a lot for the Groupons! The trick is that it is about earning new customers by being nice and doing a good job (future gains). read more

This vendor told me on the phone that Groupon members are always scheduled MONTHS ahead because he doesn't make enough money from those customers. Therefore he books them far out so people give up and not redeem it. So I (1) ask Groupon for a refund (2) ask Groupon to ban this merchant from Groupon based on his negative track record and negative reviews from Yelp. read more
