Baked Macaroni and Cheese and Pulled Pork sandwich with original sauce
    Marilyn C.

This place is as great! Stopped by here after a hike at Great Falls park and I was starving. The staff were friendly and accommodating when I asked if their outdoor seating was dog friendly. They set up our table outside with no problem and brought us a water bowl. We asked the waitress what her favorites on the menu were and she said everything was good but most folks go for the brisket, pulled pork, or ribs. So we did just that. I asked for the pulled pork sandwich with baked Mac n cheese and it was perfect. I like my sandwich on the saucier side so I mad ask for a side of BBQ sauce next time just to try more of their sauce variety. Overall a great casual summer spot.

We were heading back home but first needed to grab a bite. This place had a high rating on Google and was only 7 min away so we decided to give it a shot! I'm giving this place a 3 bc the staff was nice and attentive. While I loved the menu, I was underwhelmed with my meal. My pulled pork sandwich was lacking in seasoning and flavor but the diff bbq sauces helped. They allowed us to try an assortment of sauces at no additional charge and they was really nice! The fries, shoestring I believe, were the best part of my meal. I just love crispy, perfectly salted fries. Oh and the sweet iced tea, perfect! All in all, I wouldn't return but it was a nice experience!

Half chicken with brisket, cornbread, and side of collard greens

Delicious BBQ. I got take out and ordered the burnt ends, half a chicken with a side of brisket, smoked turkey with a side of pulled chicken, and sides of baked beans (they contain meat), collard greens (also contain meat), mac and cheese, and slaw. The burnt ends were outstanding-- juicy and well flavored; no BBQ sauce needed, but the Mookie BBQ sauce did make them better. The brisket, chicken, and turkey were all very good, and the various BBQ sauces (I got spicy, fire, Mookie's, sweet, and vinegar) provided excellent flavoring. All of the sides also were good, but like the burnt ends, the cornbread was to die for!

The food is delicious. The brisket is smoked just right. The pulled pork, pulled chicken, sausage and burnt ends and ribs all hit the spot. We tried the potato salad, collard greens and baked beans. They had great flavour, the collard greens were perfect and the potato salad was delicious. The baked beans were perfect. And lastly the cornbread was perfectly moist and not too dry. They have a huge bourbon bar and offer tastings. We will have to come back for that. They do a rotating tap with different beers. This was a great find for us. We will be back!

Visited on a recommendation from a friend that likes to eat here. Sat in the bar area so that we could watch the hockey game. Lots of tvs and the bartender came over very quickly and asked if we would like a drink. I ordered the Pitmaster platter and substituted the pulled chicken for extra brisket. The food arrived very quickly, within 5 minutes, and I was happy because I was starved. The food looked great and I got one of each sauce. To my surprise, the food was lukewarm. Even the sausage that should have been hot even if the rest was warm. Two minutes into the meal I was disappointed because the food was all cold. The couple next to me ordered burgers and said that they were also just warm. I added some salt and pepper to the potato salad to give it some flavor. I will try it again next time I'm in town.

Brisket platter with coleslaw and Potato salad + 1/4 rack rib

Finally tried the BBQ after couple of missed opportunity. I am a brisket person and I have to say Mookie's brisket is the leanest I have ever had. There is no fat on my brisket nor my son's brisket sandwich. Eating the brisket platter required a lot of sauce. At least they had great sauces. I got a side order of 1/4 racks ribs and it suppose to come with 3 bones and I only got 2. If that is a quarter, whole rack would only have 8 bones. Interesting enough, we did get a rack of ribs and it looks to be more than 8 bones. The sides were so-so. The best are the hot fries, coleslaw, which is not overly sweet, and Mac and cheese. The potato salad was ok. Tasted like something I could get at a grocery store. The server is friendly and service is good. The restaurant interior is simple like mission or red hot. There are outdoor seating as well. I would probably not go back as our staples of ribs and brisket are really just 2 stars. The sauces are really what is giving the place the extra star.

Had such a great visit here last weekend! Our server, Steven, was so sweet, with excellent recommendations, and really made the meal great. We ordered the Mac n Cheese Balls (10/10 must try), smoked sausage w/ collard greens and chili (9/10), pulled pork with collards and fries (9/10), and a pulled pork sandwich with Mac n cheese. Had triple berry cobbler, key lime pie, and a sundae for dessert. They had killer bbq sauce options, the collard greens were stellar, and the Mac n cheese was darn good! Definitely a winning meal, and we will be back!

Very impressed with this place, got the barbecue brisket, collard greens, and barbecue beans twice in one weekend after trying it for the first time. Service was good and has a really cool bar with some TVs that play football.

Clean facility where you can see into the kitchen as your food is prepared. Nice industrial design and thoughtful and quick service. Short rib melt was AMAZING! You can order it with coleslaw on top (which I recommend, it enhances the dish) and still get another included side (as opposed to ordering coleslaw on the side as your one and only side).

The mac and cheese had a nice flavor, but the cheese sauce wasn't melted well. It sort of clumped off the pasta. The baked beans (not pictured) were my favorite part of the meal. It was on the sweeter side, which I enjoyed with the savory meats. Sadly, their bbq sauces were too vinegary. Service was pretty quick for take out (we arrived when it opened on a Saturday). The Pit Stop is a decent American bbq joint, but I would not come back and don't recommend it.

But the food itself was honestly disappointing. The BBQ tasted bland, dry, and nowhere near worth the prices they charge. For a place that talks so much about authentic American BBQ, military pride, veterans, patriotism, and all the "support our heroes" branding, I expected way better food. Instead it felt like the atmosphere and marketing mattered more than what was actually on the plate. The military and first responder theme is everywhere, but after a while it starts feeling more like a marketing gimmick than a restaurant focused on quality BBQ. Even online, a lot of people seem to say the same thing -- overpriced food, average BBQ, and too much forced patriotic branding. If the food matched the hype, maybe it would make sense. The best part is of course is the menu. I noticed some new items have been added to it. That menu really does change from week to week and that's keeps me coming back. I had the dry rub ribs which were phenomenal when you dip it in their sauce which was sweet and vinegary at the same time. Not dry but crisp outside and moist inside. I also tried the beef rib which was new and I really enjoyed it. They serve a single beef rib that's so big it won't even fit in the damn container. Tender, juicy, and has that fantastic wood grill smell to it. Crispy exterior but inside is very moist. Very tender and cuts easily. If you get this, don't bother getting anything else. It's a whole lotta lotta meat. Then top everything off with their delicious baked beans that comes with the order. It may seem pricey but for the quality and quantity, this is a great deal compared to other locations found within the walls of a restaurant. This is how I've imagined roadside bbq should be and I'm not disappointed. This place is just worth every mile of that 20 I travel to get here. For my entree, I chose "Soy glazed brisket" which consists of "2Fifty Texas BBQ brisket, soy brined soft egg, furitake butter, pickled peppers, steamed rice". I liked this entree. The egg was soft-boiled, and the egg yolk provided a nice flavor. My husband chose "JJayJangmeon" which consists of "shrimp, scallops, roasted black bean sauce, noodles". The dish is made with wheat noodles. It arrived hot and with a nice vegetable garnish on top. The greenness of the vegetables made a nice contrast to the dark brown sauce. That brown sauce was hot, mild, and thoroughly coated the dish's ingredients. It seemed a bit unusual to see a dish with shrimp and scallops coated in a mild black bean sauce, but it worked nicely. The shrimp arrived tail-less, and the scallops were soft and not rubbery, both properly prepared. I was glad not to have to fight with the shrimp tails.
