We came to this location for breakfast to catch up with a friend, and I have to say that my entire experience was elevated by our server, Adam. He made such a positive impression that I already know I'll be coming back. Adam was incredibly accommodating, helpful, and attentive throughout our meal. Anytime I had a question about my order or needed a modification, he was happy to help and made sure everything was exactly right. He also introduced me to the brisket they serve here, and it was absolutely amazing. In fact, I've already made plans to come back in the next couple of weeks specifically to order a full brisket plate for dinner because it was that good! Adam's service was truly impeccable, and I really appreciated the time and care he put into making our visit enjoyable. This was our first visit. We walked in at breakfast time and were surprised to learn that it was a "Order at the counter" (i.e., table service starts at 11:00AM); but we ordered and found a seat. The restaurant is clean and comfortable with an air or a southern place with an outdoor patio. The food and the coffee were good. My wife ordered the chicken and biscuit with came with honey on top and at age, 82, she said she did not know that she like honey so much. My wife's meal came on a dinner plate. I had the biscuits, eggs and bacon. The unusual part was that the biscuits and eggs were both served in separate bowls while the bacon was on a small plate. Service was quick and the food was good. The bathroom was clean and even had warm water. We plan on returning. read more

Lovely southern comfort food spot! It was super busy when we dined on a Friday for lunch. Surprisingly our favorite protein was the branzino! Did not expect that from a bbq spot but it was cooked perfectly, so moist and tender and the sauce on top of it was divine. Steak was pretty good but smallish for the price it was like 6 slices? We also loved pretty much all of the side dishes. Biscuits had a light jalapeño aftertaste which I absolutely loved, the grits were super creamy and flavorful and perfectly executed, Mac & cheese top notch also super rich & addicting and the little crumbs add the fun texture, the arugula salad freshened up the entire plate, and the roasted Brussels sprouts also was a great pairing with the whole meal. It took more than 10 minutes to flag down a server to order but they're all super nice and they were clearly swamped, so they offered a corn bread for the delayed service (which was amazing. Has both a sweet and salty profile that we loved). Management should work on proper staffing for busy days but other than that all was great! read more

This place is amazing! It was packed when we arrived around 10 am on Saturday. We didn't have a reservation but we got lucky and got the seat without any wait time. The price is actually very reasonable and the food was excellent! I really loved their coffee and how they served with a fresh cream! I added a side of hashbrown to my brisket hash and the hashbrown came with a separate small plate. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Usually I'm a big fan of Ruthie's, but this was my first time in the Fairfax location. We were seated and received coffees quickly, but had to wait a long time for them to take our food orders. Then, it took 26 minutes for the food to actually arrive. The servers were apologetic but it was overall very frustrating, especially when the restaurant was relatively busy but not packed. The worst thing was after waiting all that time, we found what looked like pubic hairs in the apple pie pancake (see photo). Gross! Stopped by with the wife for lunch and overall it was pretty good. We tried the cornbread appetizer and that was very good. For the main course we both had the roast beef sandwich and I liked it, but I would skip the onion jam. The jam was more similar to caramelized onions but they had an odd texture. My biggest disappointment were the fries. They weren't very crisp and came with herbs on them that overpowered the flavor. This was a tough one to star out. Our initial service was 5 star. Front staff went out of their way to accomadate my husband's request which I appreciated. Its hard to be st a two top table and mo where to put ones cane. They moved us to a booth which was fabulous. Lovely server and things started strong but once food was served while he asked if we might want salt/pepper or hot sauce we indicated we didn't know yet. But he didn't swing back again till half way thru.... not knocking that off as its only day 5 for this location. Everyone still finding their rhythm. The 4 star is taste related. So what missed the mark? The hushpuppies would have been phenomenal for me if they had been without the shrimp and served with butter. The base is fabulous and the shrimp taste not enough to make a difference IMO. We shared the tri tip. Perfectly cooked and a okay chimichuri. It was the sides that weren't quite what I expected and yet one was a standout. The brussels sprouts on one hand were crispy and tasty. But the menu said fish sauce vinaigrette. I didnt taste any vinegar or fish sauce so was disappointed. If I just comment on the taste they were excellent. Just not matching description. We also had the pulled pork pinto beans. Hearty side but taste wise for us conflicted with our chimichuri. Biggest disappointment was the fries. The fries themselves were great but I wasnt expecting herbs (I think dill) on my fries. For us it was the herbs. On next visit if we do fries I'd probably ask if they could be made plain So overall a reluctant 4 star. But lots of other things to try so will revisit... read more

My husband and I came by to check out Ruthie's breakfast. The interior ambiance was warm and springy. As soon as we walked in, we recognized that there were people by the register placing orders. The staff explained to us that the weekday breakfast is operated based on counter service. They had water, utensils, serving plates were set aside for you to grab once you placed an order. You can pick your own seats to enjoy. The food is being brought out to your table but you need to grab your own refill for beverages from the bar. We particularly want to give a shoutout to Issam, who brought our entrees and went extra miles for us when we were confused about getting our shelves a drink from the bar. Excellent quality of food. Went there yesterday and place was mostly empty yet got seated next to the servers work station so I could hear their conversations. At some point heard them talking about me and my family. Nothing bad but it was distracting. Went back today for brunch with no reservation and they had no tables till 3 pm. I guess they don't allocate any tables whatsoever to walk-ins. Anyway, place itself is very nice and everything looks brand new. Food looks amazing so I'll try to go back once more and see if anything improves what the logistics side of things. read more

Amazing service at our first trip to Ruthie's. The server was charming and was a great listener, taking in our preferences before suggesting excellent dish's. Ruthies in Fairfax! Very excited to try em out as we have been to the Arlington flagship and really enjoyed it. First off the place is beautiful...did a great job designing the interior and there are numerous outdoor covered patio tables as well for al fresco dining I personally enjoyed virtually all the dishes - half chicken is moist and flavorful and the white bbq sauce is legit. The pit beef sandwich is tasty as are the ribs. One complaint that I will attribute to just recently opening was the service. The waiter is extremely nice and helpful but coordination was the issue. We had 3 or 4 folks stop by after our meal and we asked for to-go boxes. Had to wait till the 4th time to actually get the boxes. Apps came out after the entrees (they did comp the apps), waiters kept bringing our food out to the table next to us, had to remind folks we ordered another cocktail, etc. Overall we are still excited to have Ruthies nearby and I'm sure they will work out the kinks so giving 3.5 stars for service until next time read more

FINALLY!! We went with friends and our little ones on Thursday evening for their soft opening and it was such a great experience. My son has severe food allergies so we greatly appreciated their allergen menu and the server double checking with the chef on safe options. The restaurant itself is bright and beautiful, tastefully decorated. Interior design is chefs kiss. The FOOD. We ordered skillet cornbread, grilled octopus, ham & pimento cheese bread, and Brussels for apps. Then shared a family meal with a mix of ribs, briskets, slaw, and dirty kimchi rice. My friend and I made our mocktails into cocktails - we got the Whoa Blackberry (maybe blueberry?) and added vodka to ours. SO good! Worst experience ever. Don't Go. Background First time trying out the restaurant. Unfamiliar with the brand and service thought we'd check it out. We didnt have a reservation, we just walked in since we were curious about the cuisine and dining experience. The place Inside was 1/2 or 1/3 full inside. Hostess asked if we had a reservation, we explained no we didn't. We were told it was a few minutes to wait. 5-6 couples came In after us, all got seated and served before us. 4 of those couples were families with kids. After 10 minutes we decided to cut our losses and go somewhere else. We Told the hostess, to cancel our seating request. We're leaving. As we were exiting, someone from the staff asked us how things went. Explained that the dining experience here is less than what we're used to, or expect. We were leaving and going to spend our money somewhere else. The guy tried to mansplain to the wife or provide some weak excuse, as to why the delay. Explained that first impressions and gut feelings are usually spot on. We told the guy it's fine. We know when we are not wanted or being ignored. Bottom Line Up Front - BLUF, Save your money and time. Go and dine where the staff make you feel welcome, and not ignored. We ended up going to coastal flats. Ruthie's is the real deal. Every single plate was exceptional. The food hits a perfect balance between elevated comfort food and serious chef driven cooking. Smoky, deeply flavorful barbecue, perfectly executed Southern inspired sides with a Korean twist, fresh biscuits, thoughtful house made accompaniments, everything was genuinely delicious. I'm still thinking about the ribs. Absolutely hypnotic. The kimchi dirty rice and fish sauce sprouts were especially standout sides, bold, layered, and completely addictive. You can also tell there's real attention paid to their pickling and preservation program. The house pickles, pickled onions, and accompaniments brought brightness and balance to the richness of the rest of the meal and elevated both the pimento & ham appetizer and the barbecue. The brisket was incredibly tender, the ribs had the perfect bark and smoke, and the cocktails were balanced and thoughtful. I especially liked the raspberry cocktail with egg white. The French rosé paired beautifully with the meal, and the whole atmosphere felt warm, polished, and effortlessly welcoming. I actually closed my eyes eating the campfire cookies. As a person who normally skips dessert, I urge you to try these. I eat out often and don't say this lightly: Ruthie's is absolutely top tier and one of the best overall dining experiences I've had in northern Va. The food was good, really good. We tried the salads many sides and had salmon, burgers and the Pitt Beef sandwich. All very tasty. The service was glacially slow. We ate lunch at 1 PM on a Wednesday and it was fairly busy. It took 30ish minutes to get drinks and food ordered. Slow to follow up, refill drinks and provide boxes and the check. RAD burger($9)- 8/10 great burger, loved the freshness of the vegetables. I added an egg for $2. I disliked that the fries don't already come with the order it was an extra $4... they were great but not $4 great Hot coffee($3)- 5/10 not a great cup of coffee, just decent. Did the job for the moment. Points to add: There isn't a menu of regular drinks. Non alcoholic drinks. They should have one. Lots of seating. Food is freshly made, servers are great and attentive. Service was very good. Inside is very clean and they also have a covered patio. French fries were great. Prices are reasonable and portions are good. We came for the soft opening of the new Fairfax Ruthie's in Fairfax corner. It was busy but we were able to get seated quickly with a reservation. They have many offerings on their menu but my eyes, mouth, and stomach locked in as soon as I saw they served brisket. To be honest, I was disappointed in the brisket as it was inconsistently cooked. Few pieces were fatty and moist, but mostly it was dry and tough. The component of this dish including the bbq sauce, collards, and pickles were too heavily vinegared for my tastes and would have wanted the savory richness to come through more. I felt the same with the deviled eggs, which I thought were just alright but nothing spectacular. The corn bread with honey butter was delicious though, perfect texture and warmth and really enjoyable. My husband also enjoyed his pulled pork entree. I think next time I'll stick to breakfast foods cause the brisket was just not there yet. read more

The hush puppies were good old southern pups! Delightful. I got the simple brisket sandwich. Mr. Billy was running food around! Wife got fried chicken sammy. Hunks of chicken. Would be easier to eat if kitchen sliced the chicken thinner. If you get any bbq sammy I recommend having the kitchen cut it in half. No way you will do so at the table! I'm not sure what the hype was about. The food is only ok. The service was ok considering they just opened. It did take about 15-20 minutes for our drinks to come to the table. That sets the tone and if your drinks come that late you are pissed the rest of the meal. We ordered the salmon, pulled pork, and I'm blanking in what I ordered. That un-remarkable. Let me think... oh, right - chicken! Actually the chicken was the best. But still not any better than grilling it yourself. The salmon was fishy. Boo. The pulled pork dried out. Boo. The biscuits ... dry that I had to down my water to get it down or choke. The fries were underseasoned ... the dirty rice was bad. My partner said the coleslaw was the best part about dinner - when that's the star than you know the rest wasn't good. The dessert did look good but because the service was slow and the main courses we ordered subpar - we decided to just grab our check. Disappointed with all the hype. My party of three visited Ruthie's All-Day for a regular brunch outing with a reservation at 1:15 p.m. We arrived early at 1:10 and were seated at 1:34, but from that point forward the experience quickly reflected a major breakdown in communication and service organization. We did not receive a server at all and only received water at 1:44 after the manager stepped in to assist. Drinks finally arrived around 1:50. The manager also had to take our full order, including appetizers, because no server had approached the table. The moment that most diminished my experience was watching another table leave the restaurant entirely after receiving no service at all. Immediately after they left, the hosts reset and reseated the table, which made it clear the front of house team knew where guests were seated, but there appeared to be little communication or accountability between hosts, servers, and management. That was the moment I realized this was not going to be an exceptional hospitality interaction, but rather an operational failure. Ironically, the food arrived very quickly once ordered, around 2:05, but service remained almost nonexistent throughout the meal. Waters were never refilled, no one checked on the table unless we were visibly looking around trying to get assistance, and after the appetizer was comped by the manager, we never saw them again. The only employee who consistently demonstrated attentive hospitality was a busser who checked in on our table more than any server did and seemed genuinely engaged in making sure guests were cared for. Our food was decent, but nothing memorable enough to overcome the service experience. After finishing the meal, we waited another 16 minutes for the check and eventually had to stop a different server walking by just to pay and leave. We finally left at 2:43. Busy brunch services are understandable, but this did not feel like a staffing issue, rather a communication and leadership issue. Overall, this was unfortunately one of the worst dining experiences I have had in Fairfax, especially at a restaurant that we were all so excited about. read more

Came here on opening day with some friends for some good food and company. We ended up talking for almost an hour after our bill came and they were still very kind, courteous, and attentive to us throughout the night. Loved the decor and the little coffee bar.
