Grilled Salmon, Grits snd Mac and Cheese (small portions)
    Susan H.

We finally made it to Ruthie's. After seeing that other Yelpers recommended making a reservation, my husband made one for Saturday at 5 p.m. When we got there, the man at the host stand told us to take a seat, as he had others who were there first and needed a seat. Our wait wasn't very long at all. We were taken to a 2-top booth, which had an adequate amount of space. Our server/bartender, Jorge, was prompt getting to us and took our drink orders. He definitely knew his job and did it well. I chose a mocktail, "tea refresher" which consists of: "iced tea, ginger, mint". It was a very refreshing and flavorful drink. My husband had a Clausthaler beer. For an appetizer, we got deviled eggs. The portion size is 4 halves. which are flavored with "chives, garlic croutons, paprika". We enjoyed them...but...our favorite deviled eggs are the ones Jackson's has. Dinner entree portions come in either small or large portions. We both chose to have the small portions. I chose to order "Wood Grilled Roseda Farms Tri-Tip Steak", which consists of: "slices of Tri-Tip, charred scallion chimichurri, and beanaise". Each entree comes with either 2 or 3 sides. For my two sides, I chose "Marsh hen grits" and "Braised greens smoked tomato." I liked the tri-tip, even though it wasn't very tender, the flavor was good. The grits had a mild cheese in them, which didn't overtake them. The greens were okay, but I've had better. The two sides stayed nice and warm through the meal. My husband ordered "Wood grilled Salmon" which was seasoned with: "lemon pepper butter". For his two sides, he chose "Marsh hen grits" and "mac and cheese". The salmon was properly cooked: fall apart tender and very tasty. He particularly liked the grits. The mac and cheese could have had more cheesy flavor. We looked at the dessert menu and decided to try the "apple maple cobbler"...but...alas!...they were out of it. So, we decided to skip dessert. My husband ordered a Cappuccino to finish his meal. Overall, service was excellent: every staff member we dealt with was very friendly, polite, and helpful. Despite the noisy kids, we would go to Ruthie's again.

The restaurant is beautiful and well lit. Service was friendly and prompt. The cornbread was delicious and so were the wings. My daughter enjoyed her steak and grits, not the fries. I enjoyed the tenders and fries, but not the collards. I think it was the tomatoes. My daughter's friend really enjoyed her burger, but not the rice. My husband enjoyed his entire meal. I don't know if we would return as we were only in the area for a baseball showcase.

First time at Ruthie's all-day and this has been on my list of restaurants to must try for a while. While I did not go for their breakfast, their dinner was delicious! The ruthie's meat + two/three sides is awesome and gives you a lot of food to try. I got the tri-tip steak which was cooked perfectly and my partner got the 1/2 citrus marinated chicken which we were both surprised at how juicy it was. Not dry at all and full of flavor. We were so hungry this day that we actually finished all our food, but they are generous with their portions that you could really have leftovers. Restaurant interior and exterior decor is very cute. I will definitely return to try their breakfast after this experience.

I recently checked out Ruthie's in Fairfax with a friend, and while I enjoyed the atmosphere, the food was a bit underwhelming. The restaurant itself is really cute and has a fun 50s/60s diner-inspired vibe. The decor was probably my favorite part of the experience and made for a great spot to catch up with a friend. We started with the wings, trying both the dry rub and buffalo flavors. Unfortunately, neither stood out. The dry rub was a little too dry for my taste, and even the buffalo wings seemed to lack the saucy, flavorful punch I was expecting. We both also ordered the fried chicken sandwiches. It was decent, but it was just two of their chicken tenders placed on a bun. It wasn't bad, just not particularly memorable. We finished with the warm cookies and ice cream for dessert. I was looking forward to freshly baked chocolate chip cookies with that gooey consistency, but it didn't quite deliver. Overall, Ruthie's has a charming atmosphere and is worth visiting for the nostalgic vibe, but the food didn't quite wow me.

Food is overall good. Brisket was okay, a little tough (forgot to take a pic). Love their cornbread and biscuits! Service was great, everyone is so nice and the ambience is cute - love the flowers and the way it feels cozy.

Lovely southern comfort food spot! It was super busy when we dined on a Friday for lunch. Surprisingly our favorite protein was the branzino! Did not expect that from a bbq spot but it was cooked perfectly, so moist and tender and the sauce on top of it was divine. Steak was pretty good but smallish for the price it was like 6 slices? We also loved pretty much all of the side dishes. Biscuits had a light jalapeño aftertaste which I absolutely loved, the grits were super creamy and flavorful and perfectly executed, Mac & cheese top notch also super rich & addicting and the little crumbs add the fun texture, the arugula salad freshened up the entire plate, and the roasted Brussels sprouts also was a great pairing with the whole meal. It took more than 10 minutes to flag down a server to order but they're all super nice and they were clearly swamped, so they offered a corn bread for the delayed service (which was amazing. Has both a sweet and salty profile that we loved). Management should work on proper staffing for busy days but other than that all was great!

Always busy, always full. Reservations highly recommended. Walk ins to expect a long wait. Loved the drinks, the food can be hit and miss.Last time was good but 2nd time around, eggs order were not accdg to the description, greasy plates, service also hit and miss. Some servers are just better than others.

I would definitely recommend booking a reservation in advance especially during weekend brunch. If we hadn't, we would have to wait for at least an hour to eat inside. Outdoor seating was still somewhat available, but I did not want to eat in 100 degree weather. I ordered the brisket bennie and the brisket was so good!! I also enjoyed the biscuit underneath it all too. My friend got the apple pie pancakes and it looked really good. She said the apples were sweet but the whipped topping balanced it out well. Although I did think the prices were expensive for what you get, I did enjoy the food overall. I would come back here.

This place is amazing! It was packed when we arrived around 10 am on Saturday. We didn't have a reservation but we got lucky and got the seat without any wait time. The price is actually very reasonable and the food was excellent! I really loved their coffee and how they served with a fresh cream! I added a side of hashbrown to my brisket hash and the hashbrown came with a separate small plate. Our server was very attentive and friendly. I know this place is fairly new, so everything looked very clean and I really enjoyed the vibe. I'd love to come back again!

Usually I'm a big fan of Ruthie's, but this was my first time in the Fairfax location. We were seated and received coffees quickly, but had to wait a long time for them to take our food orders. Then, it took 26 minutes for the food to actually arrive. The servers were apologetic but it was overall very frustrating, especially when the restaurant was relatively busy but not packed. The worst thing was after waiting all that time, we found what looked like pubic hairs in the apple pie pancake (see photo). Gross! The manager came out to apologize and immediately took it off the bill, but our appetite was pretty gone after that.

**** I've found my next go to place for HH and brunch. It's rare that a spot hits the "neighborhood classic" vibe right out of the gate. But Ruthie's All Day isn't just a restaurant; it's a masterclass in hospitality. From the second you walk in, the energy is infectious. The hostess greeted me like long-lost friends, and that warmth extends through the entire staff. Ali, Lucy and even Todd at the bar are the type of bartenders that not only know their craft but also makes you feel at home! Even Todd, the owner was on the floor, shaking hands and making sure every guest felt seen. That kind of top-down leadership is why this place feels so soul-filled. Now, let's talk about the kitchen. Chef Matt has the CIA street cred doing something truly special here. The menu is a soulful, sophisticated bridge between a high-end bistro and a backyard family feast. The Vibe & Design - The space itself is stunning--airy, bright, and modern with a Southern soul. It's perfect for a boozy brunch or a high-stakes date night. Pro tip: If you're planning a birthday or a corporate event, ask to sit together in the private room in the back. It's tucked away, intimate, and perfect for small parties that want their own vibe without losing the restaurant's hum. Ruthie's is the real deal. It's rare to find a place where the food, the design, and the service are all firing on all cylinders. I'll be back--likely a few times a week for HH /and an occasional brunch!

First time trying Ruthie's! I was pleased with the food and the portions were def worth the price. I got the chicken tenders plate and my friend got he roast pork! I loved loved LOVED the devil eggs that they had. It was delicious and honestly the cornbread could have been a dessert in their own. The service was decent quick and efficient and hospitable. The overall vibe of the location was cute and rustic and felt very cozy. I loved the golden hour and whoa-berry mocktails such a fun drink to have when cooling down in the DMV heat! I will def go back one to try their brunch options and they are allergen aware!

Stopped by with the wife for lunch and overall it was pretty good. We tried the cornbread appetizer and that was very good. For the main course we both had the roast beef sandwich and I liked it, but I would skip the onion jam. The jam was more similar to caramelized onions but they had an odd texture. My biggest disappointment were the fries. They weren't very crisp and came with herbs on them that overpowered the flavor. It is a nice addition to the area, and I'll definitely go back for brunch.

Unlike other KBBQ spots, it's not AYCE. Instead, you order combos or a la carte meats, which highlights the quality of what you're getting! For our meal, we ordered a feast of the Chosun Hwaro Combo (Medium), Baekdusan bulgogi, japchae, and bibim naengmyun. The meat quality here is extremely PREMIUM and every bite was super juicy, tender, and packed with flavor! I cannot stop thinking about the Baekdusan bulgogi because it was truly a savory MEAT MOUNTAIN. Our kind server gave us a pro tip to mix the sauce with rice. That completely changed the dish for me! The sauce soaking into the rice made it unbelievably rich and satisfying. I loved that the combos come with steamed egg and soybean paste stew, which were comforting sides alongside all the grilled meat and ban chan (kimchi, radish, etc) already at the table. As for my noodle dishes, I usually never order japchae, but I did and this one ended up being the best japchae of my life. It was PACKED with so many flavorful meat and vegetable toppings. To finish the meal, we got bibim naengmyun, which is my favorite Korean cold noodle dish. It was so refreshing, chewy, and the perfect way to balance out all the grilled meats. Between the amazing high-quality meats, entrees, and thoughtful service, Chosun Hwaro was a memorable meal and definitely a spot I'd return to whenever I'm craving delicious Korean BBQ in Virginia!!

This was my first time here, so I'm not sure if this is the norm, but I felt like we repeatedly had to ask for sauces, side dishes, etc. I'm not sure if meats normally aren't served with sauce, here, but most Korean bbq places I've been to would serve them without us having to ask. Food was a mixed bag. We started with the yuk hae and mandu, which were solid but not particularly memorable. A note for the mandu was that it came out soggy and sat in water which was a bit disappointing for the price point. The meat quality was excellent though, with great marbling throughout the meal. The banchan leaned lighter in seasoning than I'm used to, but the broccoli and marinated quail eggs were standouts. I also appreciated the variety of salts served alongside the meats. My favorite was the volcanic salt! Service was where things fell short. We felt rushed or almost transaction for most of the meal, and it seemed like closing duties took priority over the guest experience. Tea refills took a while, banchan refills had to be requested multiple times, and there wasn't much guidance throughout the grilling experience. We had to ask what cuts we were eating and what each salt was. At this price point, I expect a little more storytelling and attention to detail. The grill also ran extremely hot, making it easy for some cuts to cook past our preferred temperature and constant smoke blew into the middle seat's face. A few tips: don't wear your nicest clothes because the ventilation isn't on the same level as Seoul Prime or Ingle. Make a reservation if you want a grill table, and don't be afraid to ask for banchan refills!! Would I come back for Korean BBQ? Probably not. I'd personally choose Seoul Prime or Ingle. That said, I saw several main dishes that looked promising, and I'd be open to giving the restaurant another shot. The foundation is there, but for the price and the hype, I think the overall experience needs a bit more refinement.
