I am writing to share a concerning experience I had at Sparky's Grooming (11960 Wilshire Blvd) to see if others have encountered similar issues and to ask for advice. I took my American Eskimo there for deshedding, washing, and a haircut. While the service took approximately two hours, I noticed afterward that my dog was frequently sitting down and resisting walking. Upon inspection, I discovered that the lower part of his belly had been completely shaved and is now red and covered in scabs. I recalled that the groomer appeared nervous and irritable during our appointment, which in hindsight was a red flag. I am very disappointment and upset that my dog should suffer because of their lack of trained groomers and unprofessional act. -- read more

Shaved off all my dogs hair when I asked for a summer cut, my dog is a chow and youre not supposed to ever shave them. and they burnt my dog with the clippers so her hair permanently won't grow back. these people are just inexperienced, if you want your dog to be hurt and bald, go here! read more

I see that a lot of people complain about the owner of the place, but I found everybody there to be accommodating and welcoming. I brought my dog, Edward von Chocula (a Korean Brown Squirrel Hound) in for a trim. The owner greeted me and the people that brought Eddie back were very good with him as he was slightly skittish. An hour and a half later Eddie was ready, clean and seemed no worse for the wear. Edward will certainly be going back. read more

I highly suggest any responsible pet owner to take the time to read the NEGATIVE reviews on this business. From my experience they are all true! Not sure how this business has 4 stars! My dog was returned to me with signs of abuse. I started taking my dog here last year, and I noticed each time she acted more terrified than the last! Even more terrified than when I take her to the vet and that's saying a lot! The owner seems angry ALL the time. He's always mumbling some angry comments under his breathe - totally unhinged. Every time I took my dog here, I felt like I was inconveniencing them by bringing them business. My dog acted TERRIFIED of this place and I didn't know why... The last time I took her she was returned to me with bruises and scrapes all over her belly. Her ID tag was RIPPED OFF from her leather collar. When I asked the owner how it happened he had zero explanation for the marks or ID tag being ripped off. Just judging by how scared of this place my dog is and the physical signs I can only guess someone who works here loves to abuse dogs. If you love your pet, don't take them here. Recently moved to the area and decided to try a local spot. I called and asked if they took walk in nail trims and immediately the man on the phones demeanor went from nice to nasty. He told me they do take walk in nail trims but was very short with me, it seemed like since i wasn't going to be paying for a full grooming he didn't care for my business. I decided against my instincts to go in anyways. There was a nice woman at the front who took my dog to the back. I was waiting for a long time, and was starting to get nervous. While i was waiting, the man who i recognized as the man i spoke to on the phone greeted other customers exuberantly who dropped their dog off for a full grooming, but was nearly snarling at me. I was getting really nervous about how long it was taking and was about to ask, when they finally bring my dog out. They tell me that they had to MUZZLE him just in case he was going to bite. KEEP IN MIND my dog is an 11yr old, 6.5 lb chihuahua WITH ONLY 1 FRONT TOOTH. Not only that, he has the sweetest demeanor and his old groomers absolutely adored him. I would watch through the window and he would just sit there and let them cut his nails. I am appalled that they muzzled my sweet angel, especially without asking me. If he was really so distressed that they thought he would bite, they should have told me and i would have ended the service. After I paid, my dog sprinted out of there. I took him to a different groomer after this bad experience, and my poor baby had a panic attack which has never ever happened before, so i don't now if something happened at Sparky's that traumatized him so badly or what, but i just know that we will never be going back there and that going forward i've learned to trust my instincts and to advocate for my fur baby read more

She's so happy! Haircut is perfect. Only reason we docked a star is because we found out about the $15 price increase after the haircut. Haircut showcases her big, beautiful eyes and that wolf like chiseled jaw line, with the triangle shape look from top. Her hair was super silky and shiny, her ears flowing like a magnificent fountain. Gorgeous cut. Smells so good. She knows she's looking extra cute today so she's ready for attention. Stay away from this horrific place. Aside from the owner being a rude and completely unprofessional person we've come several times to bring our 2 dogs out of convenience. The past 3 times they've come back with cuts and completely irritated bellies that lasts for days and eventually scabs. Both dogs are terrified to walk into the store and now we understand why. I really think they treat the animals poorly. Please stay away. read more

I want to really like this place. It's super close and I do love the way they cut my dogs hair. However, the last two times he got a haircut there were marks on his belly and he got a small cut over his eye. No one cared to tell Me after picking him up. That made me a little upset. THE BEST!!!!! Pat really knows my dog Jasper. Jasper battles ear infections and skin problems. Pat keeps Jasper's medicated shampoo on him for 20 minutes, cleans his ears, tells me when there's an infection I've missed, and lets me know that almost all the dogs have allergies now with the change of weather, which is comforting. Jasper always looks handsome after his grooming, fur so soft - I can't get it like that - nails groomed, special requests like trimming the fur out of his eyes and around his little bottom, even when it's just a wash. Pat is the owner and always there making sure everything is done up to snuff. My former dog walker told me about Sparkys, she only took her dogs there. This review is long overdue - Sparky's is my FAVORITE groomer. My morkie is almost 5 and he's had some pretty funky haircuts in his life, so it was a major relief to finally find a place that consistently gives him the most adorable cuts. I brought in pics of what I wanted him to look like and they absolutely delivered. I've included some pictures of him a day or two after his appointments (for some reason he always needs a couple days to look his cutest, it may be in my head...). I always schedule either day of or next day grooming without specifying a particular groomer, so the fact that we've been happy with multiple cuts so far has been an incredibly pleasant surprise. read more

My cat is super reserved and sometimes cranky. I was worried that he is going to be a bit scared, I honestly don't know how they did it because when he got home- he was super happy. I'm so picky because my (shelter) dog hates to be groomed and he is old. I care 100% that the groomer checks in with my dogs mental state and 1% about the other frills -- how the shop looks, buying dog food at the same time, etc. My dog is a poodle mix so we've been getting him groomed here for some time. All that said, they manage to keep their prices lower for LA standards. I highly recommend Sparkys to any dog lover! They are great at what they do....
