The Kensington Sierra Madre - Traveling to China this week in Memory Care!

Not all that glitters is gold…read more I interviewed here and watched staff perform a three-person manual lift for a restroom transfer--something that should be done with a rolling commode, not three people straining with backs bent to keep a resident from falling. This is not a safe lift technique for staff or residents. Especially those who may be fall risks or wheelchair bound - as this resident was. Turns out transfers are routinely done in this unsafe manner because the 25-resident memory unit has only one rolling commode for the whole unit. One. Thats shameful. When this was brought to Director-level management, there was apparently no interest in the resident's care plan or in finding out why the unit wasn't properly equipped. The Director was only interested in finding out who disclosed the information. For a facility charging up to $40,000 a month, this level of basic equipment shortage is unacceptable. And the witch-hunting behavior of management towards nursing staff who bring valid concerns over safety is ridiculous. I am not impressed and I would not recommend.

Here at the Grove, we've had independent-living friends who've needed temporary assisted living or, with life changes, have moved permanently into such an arrangement in The Hearth (assisted living) or into The Ranch (memory care), or into a more intensive environment, Stewart Cottage. Having lived and worked in the Midwest and East Coast, before moving to SoCal, we're thoroughly familiar with all the options of care; it's clear to us that MVGH is one of the very best we've know. Our staff is dedicated, skilled, and kind. Rarely a day goes by without either my wife or I commenting on what a remarkable, gracious, place this. We know that whatever life brings our way, we will have friends, we will receive care, our needs will be met. If you have a family member in need of some specialized care, there is no better place than MVGH. So, after asking friends and everyone I met about what they did and who they used, we found out about Arcadia Gardens Retirement Hotel. I was really happy with the care my mom got there. With their help, she recovered from the first stroke and was able to get around and feed herself. Over time, she had another stroke, a heart attack, and eventually had memory loss, spending her last years in memory care. I want to say that not only did my mom get wonderful care, but they also cared about me! They made sure I understood what my mom needed. They went over her meds, always explaining what she was taking, and talked about diapers, what brands worked best for her, wheelchairs, mattresses for the hospital bed, and so on. I will say I went several times each week to check on things - it's teamwork, and with Arcadia Gardens on my team, my mom had a good life right up until the end. Thank you Flor and her staff in memory lane.

A big thanks also to Gohard, Yvonne, Lisa, and the front desk ladies -- along with the rest of the team we enjoy seeing each visit. Of course, every facility has its ups and downs -- no place is perfect -- but this one is definitely among the better ones. Julie actually listens to our concerns and needs, and the kitchen staff is very accommodating with anything our mother needs. While the call light response time could be a little quicker at times, we understand how busy the caregivers are. Overall, we are truly grateful. My mother is safe and cared for here, and that means everything. Thank you all!

Mauricio helped us understand what to look for, the kind of questions to ask and facilitated tours of several facilities. We ultimately decided on one that was my uncle's home until he passed away. Recently I reached out to Mauricio again for assistance with a friend who needed to find a place for her disabled husband. Mauricio connected her with Portia, one of the Golden Pathways advisors, who not only helped find a great residential board and care for my friend's husband, but also supported my friend thru the whole process and provided education and support to the the family as well. Mauricio and Portia provide professional and compassionate assistance. They are genuine in their desire to help, are knowledgeable about the many facilities in the area, and they go the extra mile. And a huge plus is that there is no cost for their assistance!. I have a lot of trust in Mauricio and the Golden Pathways team and recommend them to my friends who are looking for placement of their loved ones.

She listened, took it seriously, and worked with James to restore the programming for residents. I truly appreciate their responsiveness and willingness to act on resident concerns. Thank you, Maria and James, for your teamwork and for making resident quality of life a priority.

Very recently, this occurred again and she ended up first in the emergency room, then was hospitalized for a couple of days. The actual staff working with my mother seem very caring. Management seems very lacking.
