I stopped in here when it was opened, which it seems like every time I was in the area was the day they were closed. There is a large collection of vintage style toys, and a bunch of marbles. I did expect more of the glass paperweights or fancier designed marbles. I also wish I would have been able to catch one of the demos. read more

Took my girls back to my hometown to experience Moon Marble. I was amazed how cool it was! We were able to walk right in and see a demonstration of how to make a marble, complete with inclusions of metals and glitter. There is a lot of seating and they have a camera set up with a tv screen so if you are in the back, you can still see. The demonstrator was very knowledgeable and entertaining. In the shop, there are SO many options for toys, puzzles, games, marbles of all shapes and sizes, even musical instruments. Games from my childhood all the way to current games can be found here. In the front of the store are bins of all sorts of marbles that you can pick through and fill up a jar for 15 dollars! Hours are limited (they are not open on weekends or at night) but it is 100% worth a trip during the weekday. read more

I love coming to Moon Marble anytime I am in town. This time we were able to watch a marble making demonstration. The guy who did the demonstration was very knowledgeable and friendly. There was some annoying lady asking a bunch of questions, to which he would answer kindly. Moon Marble has more than just marbles, they have toys, board games, and gag gifts. They have marbles of every kind, and every price. I got some really cool marbles that glow in the dark. My son got a rubber snake and a box of farts. Overall a very successful trip. read more

We visited moon on a Monday afternoon and ended up hanging around for almost two hours . They were so kind and willing to share with us the passion for the craft of marble making. Not only is the marble selection second to none, the vintage games , toys and fun gags were a total riot! 25,000 stars! It's a destination point. And I got to cross off something from my vision list. I visited July 3rd, thinking, "It's a Friday, no one will be there." haha, everyone was there. Parking was a bit harsh.Once I got parked and walked inside....aaah this is why everybody flocks here, I had my mom with me cause I thought she needed to see it too. I walked around taking pictures and admiring everything...and I do mean toys I've not seen in years, and Rube Golderg marble type contraptions that I think they make at their wood shop, and billions upon trillions of marbles. Their marbles are mostly made in Mexico and elsewhere. Then they showcase hand blown marbles. They are beautiful and artistic. And there's hundreds of them. There's free marble demonstration shows throughout the day, usually with a line, atleast in our case. In the demo room there are wooden bleachers. When we saw the demo there were people standing. Bruce who makes the marbles is both entertaining and knowledgeable. I left with 2 shooter marbles with tiny stands, one being the face of Moon Marbles. I would love to return when there's less crowd just to see it all again. This is a cool place you'd want to take out of town guests for sure. And if you have an hour or two to spare, take yourself. read more

I'm slowing dragging my born in Western NY husband to all of my nostalgic spots growing up in KS and have felt for awhile Moon Marble deserved to be on this list. Moon Marble is a place most kids in KS have visited on a field trip when they were younger and for some reason we've all kept our tubes of marbles over the years. It's not much to look at when we pulled up and upon entering I was a litter nervous this was a mistake and should only be a place visited with kids. My thought process and experience changed with the marble making demonstration. You sit on a set of wooden bleachers while Bruce shows you how to make a marble with a backdrop that looks like it belongs in an antique shop. I love every part of that sentence- it's weird and playful and nostalgic and you're not going to find it anywhere else. We ended our visit picking out our marbles to go into our $5 tube. This place is a fun little trip for people of all ages and I'm glad I was able to experience it one more time! read more

This place is so great! Even the grumpiest curmudgeon would crack a smile in here. They have a fantastic selection of novelties and toys. This place should be on every Kansas City "must see" list or map. Moon Marble is in an out of the way run down building with terrible parking, but that's where the negatives end. It is educational since you can see glass marbles being made, but it's also fun and nostalgic. They have a wall of different marbles and display cases of more rare and artistic ones. They also sell all the gag gifts and toys from yesteryear. I had forgot about my spirograph from childhood; so many games and items bringing back wonderful memories. Have watched the signs for this place on a couple trips to the east coast. The timing has always been off or it's been a sunday. We were in Kansas city and took a trip out to see this place. It is so much fun! We arrived just as a demo was starting! Weird to get so excited about seeing someone making a marble - but damn - it was fun and super cool! After that, you walk around, you see all the fun marbles, and marble things, so much to look at, so many things to buy that you don't need. We spent some time chatting with Bruce Breslow after the demo! So many fun stories and interesting info about making marbles and his set of dishes for his wife! We ended up purchasing a puzzle of a picture of his marbles - so excited to put it together! Definitely a great way to spend a couple days! read more

This place is amazing. We just so happened to be in Kansas City and found out about this place being in Bonner Springs (25 minutes from KC-MO). It has to be one of the more interesting toy stores I've ever been in. Toys for every age. I'm in my 30's and I was in awe... If you like marbles... they have a ton or so of them... seriously (they order up about 6 million at a time). They also hand make marbles onsite and offer live demonstrations that are very entertaining and informative (all for free), but then try getting out unscathed with small kids... While the offer plenty of small nick-nack items they also offer a ton of unique marbles and toys. The handmade marbles seemed a bit pricey, but overall... I would say the items for sale seemed reasonably priced. The staff were all great and seemed very patient with not only me... but also my four small kids who were excitedly bouncing off the walls. This is definitely a great shop! I originally went for the "knuckle bones" little pendants to use for a play therapy game and THEY are awesome! I also found a lot of great miniatures for my Sandtray set up. The store is full of great learning games and toys too. Definitely worth a stop if you have kids or work with kids. Bonner Springs is one of those places that you will only visit for a very good reason. Sandwiched between Interstate-70 and the Kaw River, it is home an industrial park, the summer concert "powerhouse" Sandstone, and The Agricultural Hall of Fame. Bonner does have a few redeeming qualities, namely Oak Street, which evokes vintage small town charm, and the memorable shopping experience that is Moon Marble Company. I would go to the moon (or a cultural wasteland) for a store as cool as this one. Moon Marble Co. is a specialty boutique, novelty purveyor, and traditional toy store all under one roof. The front room is all about marbles. Kids can hand pick their favorites from a vivid rainbow of swirls, spots and solids. The varieties have expressive names like Red Devil, Porcupine, and Pterodactyl. The rest of the store is a funky mix of retro novelties (tin toys, whoopee cushions, Smurfs, etc.) and unique toys and games, many of which are marble themed. The owner, Bruce Breslow, is a glass artisan. If you drop in on the right day, you might see him wielding a blowtorch and demonstrating marble making. So, for a distinctive local shopping experience, make the trek to Moon Marble in Bonner Springs. I guarantee that the whole family will find it more rewarding than a standard Toys-R-Us shopping trip (and who knows, the nearby Ag Hall of Fame may be an added bonus for you!). We enjoyed the marble making demonstration. It was free. Really young kids might get bored, but my tweens found it fascinating. The owner was funny while being informative at the same time. There is no charge, and they don't make you feel guilty about giving a donation either. The store has much, much more than marbles, although there are plenty of them, from the mass produced to the handmade. We thought we might spend 15-20 minutes here, but ended up spending almost two hours between the demonstration and browsing all the unique offerings at the store. The 4 and 2 year olds had fun climbing the bleachers. I thought it was awesome- the demo, not the climbing... The gift shop is cute and reasonably prices. Sandwich pencil cases and wind-up cars. Bags of machines made marbles for $5-$7 (my 4 yo picked a "pound of pee-wees" in a bag for $5. The hubby counted them at home. 97 marbles! That's what every mom wants under foot...) I lived in the KC area for 18+ years and never went here but now that I have kids we decided to drop on in. This shop has about every game and classic toy you can imagine. We happened to come right at the time a marble making demo was starting so we went straight in. The presentation was for a little bit older kids but it was really interesting none the less. It lasted about 25 min and at the end he had a finished marble. It was all very fun. We needed up buying a few machined marbles (the hand made ones are a bit pricey) which aren't as unique as the hand made but still fun for a 5yr old. Moon Marble Company is a surprising little place out in Bonner Springs. Yes, they trade in marbles--LOTS of marbles--and tons of other kids' toys, contemporary and vintage. But in the back room is a surprising area: display cases filled with works of art. Dozens of hand-blown, handmade marbles, of varying sizes, in all sorts of designs. When I visited, I was shopping for a friend's birthday; I found a lovely 1-inch marble, evocative of the desert, with chips of copper in it, and a beautiful glass pendant with a saguaro in it. All the staff is friendly and genuinely want to help you find just the right treasure. I discovered a magnet with a quote from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"--"We are the music makers, we are the dreamers of dreams"--and spent several delightful minutes chatting with the gentleman behind the counter about all the wonderful moments from the 1971 movie. Indeed, that magnet epitomizes Moon Marble Company: they welcome dreamers and music makers and those of any age who play and imagine. When I first walked into the building, I thought I'd driven all that way just to enter a toy shop. Yes, a well stocked toy shop, with all kinds of vintage and novelty items...but still, just a toy shop. You have to go through all that merchandising before entering the rather smallish and seemingly unimpressive factory part of the museum. On the day we went, the lady demonstrating how to make a very intricate marble (one that would look like a miniature baseball) told us she trained in Italy under the Murano family. Wow. What a remarkable idea to think that a true artist would find her way to Bonner Springs, Kansas so she could design and craft beautiful marbles in a homely shack in the middle of nowhere. A fun part of the museum is going back into the store area and viewing the hundreds of bins of marbles for sale. Kids can come do the tour and then pick out four or five marbles as part of their ticket price. I learned something new, watching how a marble is formed and I definitely had fun in the process. Don't let the rundown appearance of the outside of this building keep you away from a very informative and downright enjoyable hour or so. read more
