Tree variety here is pretty darn good. Prices here are pretty darn high (why I can't give five stars). It seems like they are always running a half-off special of some sort (and if they aren't, I wouldn't buy). Sales pressure is very high too; they want to tie a sold tag on everything you show interest in, but I understand: sales! Making the final sales total 60-70% higher than the actual plants cost by adding on a warranty, planting trip charge, etc. is an art form. When the crew arrives some time later to plant your trees, it is quite the production. A supervisor-type takes countless photos of the whole thing to document condition of the yard upon arrival, location of the "plant it here" marker flag, fertilizer application, tree placement, mulch usage, lack of damage to property...and other parts of the yard they didn't go into (?). The very friendly leader of the operation made sure it all went well, and it did. He clarified the proper watering schedule to increase survival odds. Then they were off to improve more yards around town. They are no cheap source for trees, but they really give good service. read more

We bought several palms from them around a year ago. The buying process was great, they really knew their stuff and that was helpful. The install didn't go great, but that was a fault of mine not the nursery. They actually told me what it would take to prep the area and I didnt listen so I have to give them kudos on knowing their stuff there too. The palms have been great and appear to have survived the winter we had which is great. We did get insurance on the palms and so far they have been very transparent with the insurance process and I am happy we got it as a just in case. I had a fantastic experience with Moon Valley Nursery on Katy Fwy. I was looking for trees to plant in some raised planters to provide privacy in my back yard and a few other shrubs to fill in some other areas. Andrew at the nursery was very knowledgeable and great to work with. He gave me some options and I made my selections in one day, and we scheduled delivery/installation for the following Thursday. On Thursday, Vincent called about a half hour before they arrived and his team got to work planting. They even helped me dig up a stubborn Crete Myrtle that I couldn't get up myself in exchange for some gatorade and a few bucks I had on me. The team was on time, worked fast, brought great looking plants for me, and I really appreciated their flexibility in helping with some removal. This weekend we were in Houston and decided to check out their local nurseries since plant selections have been slim in San Antonio. We stumbled upon Moon Valley, and we were not disappointed. There was a great selection of plants, trees and shrubs. Upon our arrival we were greeted by Andrew and immediately felt welcomed. He helped guide us around the yard in search of plants and flowers he felt would be to our liking, and I feel he picked up on our likes quickly. His honesty in opinion, his knowledge in the plants, and meticulous inspection of the plants were a breath of fresh air and it did not go unnoticed. We just had our palms planted this morning and the we LOVE the great change to our backyard landscape. Charles and his crew were very professional and helpful as we got each palm positioned. We were unable to get our fiber cable marked before the install and they were very careful to make sure they did not accidentally hit it during planting. I would like to highly command Chris Figueroa for his utmost dedication, professional, knowledge, intellect, in assisting me resolving my concern with my new tree of few months. There were some miss hafts during the planting of tree, the trucker did not bring the soil needed prior to planting the tree, as a result the stake that holds the trunk is loose and above the ground, also, the two large stakes placed on each side of the tree are grossly cracked from top to bottom. however, as time went by the issue became more obvious. I called Moon Valley Nursery and spoke with Chris who requested pictures of the above concerns I did as requested. The following day, he called me and informed me that he scheduled for somebody to come within tree days to take care of the problem. Absolutely assume service! Moon Valley came out to my house today to plant a tree to replace a tree I had removed. They did an excellent job, very professional! They were also very knowledgeable about installing the tree, and removing some of the existing roots. And they even moved some small plant around for me! Great company and great service! read more

Last week I purchased 3 citrus trees for $200 each for a total of $600. When I proceeded to remove them from their containers and plant them, I discovered each of the plants were actually the $60 sized plants (5 gallon plants) just inserted in the higher prices 15 gallon containers with considerable soil surrounding the smaller root ball. The Root Ball was exactly the size of the 5 gallon containers. Richard Lawrence, the sales person, claimed that 15 gallon plants were grown in their nurseries for 5-7 years. However, if that were the case, then why was to root ball of the 15 gallon container so compressed? In fact, the exact same size as the 5 gallon container priced at $60. On Monday, I spoke with David Carvajal and informed him of my recent purchase and discovery. He had nothing to say until I started to drive away. He came out and said that his "Boss" just approved a 20% discount on any future purchases of other plants. So, let's do the math... I just spent $600 on three trees that should have cost me $120 and now, if I come back and purchase another $200 tree (still in the market for two more), then I would have to pay $160 per tree again spending $100 on the overpriced items because 15 gallon equals 5 gallon to some people. I'm disappointed in the business practices and the ethics of this organization. I consider this to be deceptive and on the border of fraud. As of April 1, 2021, I talked to the business owner and one of the overall managers. They were very concerned at the service received, the perception that I had and worked with me to resolve the issue. They have agreed to refund half of what we spent. I felt that this was honorable on their part to make restitution and I am changing my rating from a "1" to a "4". read more

Fear not, they ARE your place for the best tree, location and deal in town this December (and late November for you heathens). DON'T waste your money (up to $1200!) and time at Cornelius Nursery, where they close earlier than advertised and may just shut the door in your face (whilst making eye contact). Highlight: Every year (4 holidays and counting), the lot on Katy Freeway & Brittmoore has the biggest variety in size and most reasonable pricing. They are open until 9 most nights, when others close at 5-6! Just call to confirm prior to arriving. Downfall: There is primarily only 2 types of trees sold here. Grand Fir & Nobles. When asking salesmen, they were not very knowledgeable on what was available or even what was in front of us. Great Experience: Last year during the FREEZE of post-Harvey, 20 minutes passed before we could really make a decision on a tree. Our salesman offered to take $20 off a 5 foot Noble Fir AND they acceptable my $6 off coupon. My wife and I thought that was really cool of them. Maybe it was just the cool weather?! Bad Experience: 2 years ago, we ended up taking home a tree only to realize that it had unfortunately been urinated on at some point at the lot, and baked an obviously unpleasant scent when a major reason to buy a fresh tree is the nostalgic scent of the natural tree. Was a real bummer, but we did not go back to the lot (15 mile drive) to rectify the issue. Fact: Unlike the General Mills marketed Sno-Flok home kits in the 1950s (applied using a gun that attached to a vacuum cleaner), here they will professionally "flock" any tree on the lot for you! Stellar Performance: Cashiers are always cheery and pleasant. Even when Houston decides to chill down to 20° and outdoor workers aren't prepared! History: Formerly known as Big Tex, all locations across Houston are now re-branded as Moon Valley, which started with a small location in a north of downtown Phoenix, AZ neighborhood. Tip: Print out your $6 (usually covers tax + more!) off Christmas tree or simply show on your phone. There isn't a better option across HTX + greater Houston area than Moon Valley when it comes Christmas time. The tree planting team led by Guillermo was on time, helped solve root issues by removing past old trees roots, and was efficient in planting and explaining how to care for the trees, as well as they left the backyard cleaned up and new mulch around the new trees. Ordered four small palms to go on back of fence after we lost out big nice palms. Told them I eanted them to be the same size along fence. Got two that have grown about the same but one hasn't grown at all and the fourth is in the middle. Messaged someone and they asked if I wanted to speak to a manager and he would call me but weeks later and he has not. I spent quite a bit for these tiny little palms plus one for another location. I would like to thank the plating crew of Ivan for getting the job done promptly and nicely. We purchased a palm tree and was told it will be delivered planted in 2 and half weeks. It was a wait but we thought if they do a good job, that would be worth it. Later we had quite bit of problem trying to coordinate delivery with the office staff. First of all they send us the wrong reminder email for a different date than the arranged date. Then on the arranged date time window, nobody showed up and gave us any notification. We called in after the no show, and was told that the delivery cannot be made and it would be a week later for the next delivery window. We would've go to another nursery if we knew the wait was that long. After a few frustrating calls, the office staff finally was able to arrange a date a little bit earlier. Ivan and his planting crew showed up on time and get the palm tree professionally planted in less than 20 mins. They educated us in detail how to care for the palm tree. I highly recommend Ivan and his crew. And hopefully improvements can be made with the office staff in communication and coordination with customers. read more

For anyone looking for a nursery that will provide total care, Moon Valley is your go to nursery. Yes, the expense is higher, however, if you buy right the first time it only hurts once, a motto we consistently live by. My husband and I have had such a kind and professional experience throughout, from Jessica the sales associate, Cody who oversees the planting of the trees, provides encourage, and additional tips for keeping our precious trees alive. His crew worked hard, cleaned up after themselves. On July 15 Mr. Guzman and his crew came to our house. He called ahead and texted to let us know they were on their way. I did not see his notification while I was helping to clean our church. When I called him, apologizing for missing his call and told him why, he said, "the tree is planted, don't you worry, you were doing the Lord's work. We took care of everything on this end." Now if that doesn't warm your heart, what will. On another note, I have to mention Ms. Chay again for her efforts to ensure quality assurance. We purchased 3 Hybrid Fan Palms in mid March and delivery and planting was scheduled for today. Vincent and Crew arrived promptly (even a little early) for our 8 am appointment, and they did an amazing job. My wife and I were thoroughly impressed with their professionalism, expertise, attention to detail, care for our property and new trees, and friendliness. 5 star service, for sure. This is a great place with an incredible selection of trees and plants, and good people. With that said you should be aware of how their tree warranty works. We purchased a very expensive tree and also bought the warranty. The tree died from the freeze so they honored the warranty and replaced the tree. The problem was they required us to purchase another warranty even though the original plant died from natural causes. The new warranty was $1,200 so not insignificant! read more

They are the nicest people that I've spoken to on the phone in my quest to be better in horticulture. They never seemed phased by any questions that brought upon nor quantity of the questions during a single session. It's easy for me to worry esp when half the leaves of an Apple tree that I planted are brown. Tree shock is normal and I leaned healthy ways to encourage stabilization. They also have moon dust and moon juice which are amazing products. Their selection varies and their knowledge seems never ending. They make the process and care part Easy. read more

BE CAUTIOUS!! My husband and I decided to work with a "reputable" company to replace our trees and flowers. We worked with Ben, and he was unprofessional from the beginning. He made an appointment with us and then changed it twice. He finally came and made a lot of promises that he did not keep. We were told that they would remove the old much because it was too much in the flower beds. He also stated that they would bring new mulch to put in the flower beds. We then went into the office to choose the trees and other plants. Everything looked great in the store. We paid for our trees and plants and chose everything we wanted and left the store satisfied with the installation date. On the date of the installation, we opened the gate and let the crew get started. We were told the time frame and my husband left to take our sick dog to the vet. He received a text that they were done an hour and a half early. We came home to review the work and discovered that they had done a HORRIBLE job. The did not remove the mulch nor did they add new dirt. The trees were replaced, the other flowers were poorly planted, and trash was left in my yard. Bushes were leaning and the two trees in the front yard next to our columns were leaning against the house. There was dirt and mulch left in grass and on the sidewalk that leads to our front door. The did not clean up the flower beds and only mulched a few areas of the yard. In the flower beds there is a lot of weeds that were not cleaned and none of the mulch was removed. The crew left dead bushes that should have been replaced. We will have to pay another company to come out and redo the work as well as clean up their "work". I immediately called the salesman Ben and explained our concerns. He acted as if we were not telling the truth, so I took pictures and sent them to him. Ben offered to fix the problem however; we declined because we were frustrated with the unprofessional work and the attitudes of the staff. We kindly asked them to remove the flowers and refund our money. He stated that their policies would not allow them to remove the plants and trees. We asked to speak to his superior. He then forwarded our concerns to his superior. Steve called me and I explained our concerns to him and asked if we could have the flowers and trees removed due to the sloppy work that had been done. He stated that they could come our to clean up the work during the same week. We refused the clean up and asked that the flowers be removed. He said he understood, and we never heard back from them. Three days later I received a text message stating that they would remove the work within 2.5 weeks. We asked for an earlier date because will be working with another company to redo our yard. They refused to pick up the flowers and stated again that they could fix the problem. This has been an awful experience and we will never use this company again for any of our landscaping needs. read more

We were looking for shrubs for a problem area in front of our porch. We remembered driving by this location on Katy freeway and decided to stop in to see what they had. We were astounded by all of the big, beautiful, healthy trees in neat rows that shaded us on this hot Houston afternoon. Our salesman Zac spent a lot of time with us discussing the properties of each type of shrub we considered, never rushing us even though by the looks of the giant trees, our purchase was a small one. The shrubs we chose were comparable in price to other nurseries, but were full, lush, green and large . Normally we would have needed seven or more, but these were so full and nice we only needed five. Exceedingly impressed with the quality and quantity of stock as well as the customer service. When you can't find a good quality Christmas tree anywhere else, go to the Moon Valley Christmas Tree place in Katy. I used them last year and had such a good, easy experience that I bought from them again this year. They have a wide selection of trees and friendly, helpful assistants. Jordan from Brenham helped me this year. After I made my selection, he sawed off the bottom of the tree (needed to help the tree drink water to stay fresh) and even tied it to the roof of my car for me. I went by Moon Valley for the first time to see if they had fruit trees. I was so excited to see all of the citrus trees. I saw they were at half price for $299 for 3'-4' trees which were not cheap. I was told with the freeze there is a shortage and these trees are 5-7 years matured which is what the tags say. I purchased 3 citrus trees but on my way home, I saw a sign at Houston Garden Center for citrus trees for $49.95. I went inside and they were exactly the same trees! I called Moon Valley since I still had one in my car and asked if I could return them. The salesman was hesitant and told me he was going to have to speak to his boss and most likely charge me a restocking fee. I felt like I was totally ripped off and so disappointed. They lost a customer today. read more

The salesman Chris was very knowledgeable and helpful and full of finding solutions, but the crew that came out to plant the trees were quite the opposite. After cutting a cable they pointed out that my wife had signed a waiver absolving them from any damage, and hence it was our problem. Also Chris had offered to have the Oleander hauled off at a reasonable price, the crew wanted 2.5x, and refused to accommodate. They had multiple people digging holes so we could not monitor that the work was performed correctly. I cannot recommend this company. read more

Bought a couple of fruit trees from them and paid about double the price to get them to plant it. One of them started dying in about a months time. Went to their store and consulted with them and was told to water them less. Did not help. They sent an email for extending their warranty. Told them that both plants looked quite sickly. No answer from them so far. Do not believe that the initial warranty they give nor the one they sell for about the same cost as the trees are worth the paper they are written on. read more
