Moore's is a local staple in the Winterville/Greenville community. They haven't been in business as long as other local barbecue spots but still have a reputation for quality food. I grew up on Parker's but have grown to favor the taste of Moore's My personal favorites are the pulled pork and bone-in chicken. The chicken is always cooked well with a seasoned crispy skin to enhance the flavor. This time I had fries, which were shoestring and salted nicely, and green beans for my sides. There's a dining room in case you want to sit and enjoy your food fresh. Dine-in service can be a longer wait so I always do drive thru for my visits. We had our church Christmas party at Moore's BBQ and couldn't have been happier. We used a private room, the food came out quickly, every order was correct, and everything was hot and delicious. The servers--while all young--were outstanding: attentive, very pleasant, and on top of everything. Truly a great staff. Moore's used to be such a good place to eat. Fried chicken, French fries, shrimp, stew, etc. all delicious, but the past year they have been steadily declining. Servers are nice but I am not sure the cooks take pride in their work and the take out staff are lacking in personality. You can smile a little and say thank you or something. There is always a pull to the side and wait and then the fries are cold and stale. Portions are ridiculously small for sides. It's like four bites and you are done and the prices are outrageous. The chicken is overcooked and tastes like it is cooked in very old oil. The decor is nice and clean but the floors are super slippery so be careful especially elderly. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen. So we will not be returning here for a long time. We have tried one too many times and it keeps getting worse. read more

Great find in the Greenville area! We tried their food twice on a recent trip, once for take out and the second time eat in. Both experiences were excellent. The building itself was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful with the menu. The seating setup was a nice combination of booths and tables. The interior was very welcoming and the bathrooms were clean. For both meals I had the BBQ Pulled Pork, which was delicious, moist, freshly chopped with a light peppery kick and paired well with their house sauces. Perfectly cooked pork with a nice wood flavor. The hush puppies were crisp, fresh, slightly sweet and dangerously good. The sides were ok: mashed potatoes were good and the green beans were average. I felt the portion size was just right and appreciated the staff walking by and occasionally asking if we needed everything. The place was packed for a lunch rush and they handled it well. There are some great BBQ places in this area of North Carolina and Moore's is one of the best I've had in my humble opinion. read more

We went here for dinner tonight and the service was aweful. No one asked us how the food was, if we needed anything or if we wanted refills. People around us where being asked yet our table and a few other tables where being ignored. The food was ok, not great. The chicken is extremely greasy and the mashed potatoes have no flavor being they are watered down. , Thete service and food quality needs to be improved tremendously. Went through the drive thru for lunch on Friday and got the crab cake sandwich combo. The crab cake was burnt in spots and didn't taste of much more than a filet of fish from McDonalds. The potato salad I got as my side was good and but for the price, it was definitely not worth it. read more

We went there for lunch today and the food was not good. The fried chicken tasted like old oil and was dried out. The mashed potatoes where watered down with no flavor. They serve the food on styrofoam plates that the server struggles to give you because the plate is breaking. I don't recommend this place. read more

* For fellow parents of diapered kids; there is a diaper changing station in the big stall.* So, we had our first visit here today and highly recommend it! We had never heard of this chain before but decided to give it a shot after reading a couple of reviews here on Yelp. It was very clean inside and out with ample seating. It was not too busy even though we were there around 1300 on a Sunday. I ordered the BBQ Sandwich meal, which came with a sandwich (had coleslaw on it as well as their sauce), one side and a drink. I decided to stick with the French fries and I was given an abundant amount. I am not sure if this was due to the fact that they were teetering on being cold or if that is how much they normally give. With that being said, they were still good but could have been more fresh. The BBQ itself was pulled, I think they described it as chopped, and it was really good! Probably one of the best BBQ sandwiches I have had. I ordered my coleslaw on the side just because I am picky about it. It had kind of a cinnamon note to it that hit you a few seconds into tasting it. It was still good on the sandwich. I wound up putting their rib sauce and more of their hot sauce (which was on the table) onto my sandwich and it was delicious! My husband ordered the pulled pork plate which came with two sides AND hushpuppies. His two sides were the baked beans and the potato salad. The baked beans were the bomb! They did have a tiny portion of pulled pork in them, just so y'all know. The potato salad was good but it is not something we would order again. The hushpuppies tasted like they were made with cornmeal so it tasted like cornbread. It was good! Definitely a different take on a hushpuppy. Right as I was getting up to get a drink refill there was an employee walking around with tea to refill drinks! Total score! I still needed to run up to the counter for something but it was nice that I did not have to carry my cups up there. We ordered Carry Out and drove home 90 minutes and couldn't wait to dig into our fried chicken and sides. Chicken was crispy and tender, hush puppies were greasy but good. The brown bag with the puppies inside could've been wrung out. Slaw was good, but POTATO SALAD WAS VERY SWEET. A flavor I've never experienced in potato salad. It was as if a heavy portion of very sweet pickles were used. The consistency was very moist, potato pieces very small. Made me think sweet pickle juice may have been used too. WE THREW IT OUT. I've passed this place for years before finally deciding to give it a shot. I've heard they served good food so my wife and I came in expecting great service. First impression was that their parking lot was clean, the interior was clean, and their facilities were clean. The associate taking the order was professional and friendly. They have a lot of great options to choose from fitting to a barbeque restaurant (think "family cookout"). After placing an order to dine in, we were given a table marker and drinks and chose a seat. You can place an order to go, and they even have a drive-thru. The speed with which our order came out was fast, not even five minutes. The plate I ordered was hot, fresh, and bursting with flavor. But that alone isn't what made me come back the next time, or the next few times since then. Moore's has customer service like I've never experienced before. Literally every 5-10 minutes an associate-and even the manager of the location-made rounds to check on us. I've even gotten up once to head to the register for a refill in-between their rounds and had their employee of the month, who was our server, immediately spot me and jokingly told me "no" and asked me what I wanted! This has unfortunately spoiled my wife and I I'm the way of customer service and set a high-standard of care for a customer. I highly recommend this location for anyone skeptical to try it. For several years, the fried chicken was the one reliably quality product at Moore's. Yet over the last three times I've been there, over the course of 6-9 months or so, the chicken is smaller, saltier, and more dry than before. The fries have changed too from shoestring to a mushier type. And the potato salad tastes of a lower quality. The prices, however, remain as high as ever. read more

Stopped in for one of my first tastes of Carolina Q and it was very good. Moore's is a fast food q and chicken joint that has all of the typical Carolina fixins including my fave Brunswick stew. Place was very busy on a Sunday afternoon. First time for us here. Theres a drive through which cool. Inside there is a place to wash hands right in the dinning area which iv never seen before. They sell pepsi products. I got chicken tenders at 7$ and my bf got the pulled pork sandwich value meal for 6$. I was worried because it was 3 tenders for 7$ but it was like eating a half a chicken.. Soo full lol They have Good food for sure. Service was fast. Bathrooms are very clean, however kinda small only 2 stalls and there was a short wait from being so busy. Id recommend this place to anyone that likes chicken and bbq! They have a different way of doing service here. You order pay receive a receipt and a number. Find a seat and they serve you the food you ordered at the table. When your done u leave the mess and they come and pick it up i believe. I couldn't find a trash can to dispose of my trash when done. Sweet with the barest hint of kick, but nothing to make them stand out. 3 stars. Cons: The chicken tenders are dry, the BBQ pork is so vinegary as to be nigh inedible, and neither item came with any kind of sauce. One would expect the pork, at the least, to have come with some kind of BBQ sauce. 2 stars. My 82 year old mother is from North Carolina, so my sister and I decided to bring her down from NYC to visit family and friends while she is still able. On Saturday, 8/1 we drove from Greenville to Aurora for the day. On the way back, we stopped at Moore's around 8: 30pm because my mom's cousin (with Cerebral Palsy) who was with us, highly recommended it and wanted to get some chicken and BBQ to take home since we had not eaten since breakfast. We drove through the drive-thru and placed our order with the speaker box. Apparently, the girl taking our order was done for the day, so when we got up to the window, she asked me was there anything else I wanted (but with an attitude). I was a bit confused but I said no, just what we ordered. She then slammed the window shut. A minute later, some boy comes to the window and asked me if I needed anything. I said, just my order. Again, I'm getting more confused. He leaves and comes back and says, you don't have any order. So now, I realize they have decided we don't get to buy food from them. I said "Wow! That is some southern hospitality for you!" and I drove off. I could not believe the rudeness and nastiness of these people. Who does that? I come from NYC and I have never seen anything like it. We used the drive-through window, and I was happy to see the young woman handing out the food was properly masked. My husband had the bbq sandwich, but I wanted fried shrimp. I "won" that day. His sandwich was very good, but my shrimp were perfectly cooked and piping hot. I got the snack size and the portion was huge. Even sharing with my husand we barely finished. The shrimp were so good that the next day we came back to try the fried flounder. Another winner. We shared the plate and two sides along with hushpuppies. We both enjoyed the hushpuppies as they were not overly sweet. The coleslaw could have used a little more vinegar, but that is easily rectified by adding my own. I just wish there were some picnic tables outside. We ended up eating in the car which isn't my preferred dining spot. If you are in New Bern, stop buy for some good cooking. read more

I am always on the hunt for good barbecue. Part of this is because I am from East Tennessee and NC BBQ is very different than what I grew up with. Several people told me that Moore's was a great place so we finally tried it. The service is absolutely top-notch. Everyone was extremely friendly and the manager on duty asked my husband and I if we had been there before. When we told him no he made some recommendations. The young man who carried out food out to us was particularly kind and friendly as well. I had the chicken and it was quite tasty. My husband had a pork sandwich and he liked it a lot as well. My only "complaint" was that there was a lack of side dishes I could eat as a person who follows a low-carb diet, but that is absolutely my issue and not anything I would blame the restaurant for. The sides however will have you ordering extra (they dont even give a heaping spoon of the sides) but you won't waste money ordering extra because they're so good. Why 4 stars instead of 5? So the food was really good. We got the family feast with all white meat and green beans, mashed potatoes (hold the gravy), and mac and cheese. We also got a fried shrimp and flounder plate with brunswick stew and coleslaw. I will show a little grace because it was Father's Day and they were very busy. I knew this going in, so I called in my order at 3:22 to be ready for pickup at 4:00. When I got there at about 3:58, my order had gotten misplaced in the business. I paid for it and checked to make sure that they would do all white meat for the chicken. The cashier assured me they would and it would be ready in a few minutes. My 9 year old son and I stood for the first 15 minutes, then decided to sit on the nice bench. I amused him by catching the raindrops leaking from the ceiling (It had been raining hard earlier). I also noticed the wet floor sign about 15-20 feet away. Maybe they had several leaks. I thought about mentioning it to the manager or owner, but saw he had his hands full in the back, trying to help his employees keep up with all the orders. Another customer came in and asked me how's the wait. At this point it was almost 4:25. I said, "well I put my order in over an hour ago, and we're still waiting." He replied, smiling, "that's not good." I kept my mouth shut and smiled back. Then, I saw a family feast and sides being walked around the restaurant to all the people sitting down. No name was mentioned, but I finally got up and called to the manager/owner in the back who was trying to figure out who the order belonged to, "I think that's my order." He said, "the order said 5"(I don't know exactly what that means, but evidently it made them think it was dine-in). I said loudly so he could hear me 20 or so feet away, " I called it in over an hour ago. I'd like it to go please." He and a few employees packaged it up in about 3-5 minutes. Maybe they replaced it with some warmer food, I'm not sure. So I was very excited when they carried out the 3 bags and I asked for the gallon of lemonade that came with the family feast. She said she'd go get it. As I'd been sitting there for 30 minutes, I saw 2 gallon jugs of lemonade get carried out to drive-thru orders. I also decided to double-check the all white meat. You guessed it. White and dark. So I took the chicken over and asked for all-white meat. The employee took it back to where the manager was, and he looked even more frustrated. But they filled up two containers with all white meat. Then I heard the owner/manager give directions for making more lemonade, and I saw a pitcher of lemonade being carried around the kitchen. After about 3-5 minutes one of the employees came back and told me they were out of lemonade and I'd have to have tea. I said, "I just saw 2 gallons of lemonade being carried to the drive-thru, and I just saw someone make a gallon of lemonade." She said that was for the drive-thru. I said, "could you please make us some lemonade?" She said, "no." So, I asked for a refund on the lemonade. She went back and the manager/owner told me he didn't have a refund button to push since it was part of family feast. He then proceeded to tell me he didn't really want to be here at all. Thanks for your honesty, but I think I did see gift card station at the front of the store. Maybe you could have given me a $5 gift card for the lemonade and/or a coupon for the long wait and your employee's mistakes. Also not very professional to complain about your job to your customers. Finally he offered unsweetend tea, so I took it to finally be able to leave around 4:35. While the food was good, we will be going to Sam Jones Barbecue across the street, next time, to avoid the hassle. read more

I went through the drive thru and got BBQ, slaw and Brunswick stew. I liked the way the BBQ was chopped and had a good eastern NC flavor and not dried out. The slaw was a little dry but tasted good. The Brunswick stew needs more seasoning but I prefer things like that to be more spicy so that's my preference.
