I ended up taking an extra year there because my counselor(s) messed up which degree path I was one, and instead of sharing with me a physical copy of what classes I was supposed to take so I would know if I am on the right path, they said I could view the classes through an online portal- which ideally would be easy to access except just like the college website there are several unorganized tabs that lead to the same place or to entirely irrelevant categories and make it all around difficult to navigate when you're trying to find the most simplest of resources. Despite how much the school talks about wanting to help students find their career path from their selected majors I got no help from any counselor and even when I went back to ask for help from a counselor, all I got was a redirection to a website with a list of schools that MIGHT have bachelor programs to further help my pursuing of education for my selected career. Speaking of counselors, it is such a hassle to get ANYWHERE when it comes to mental health resources. Making appointments are not in any way accessible and no matter if you call, go in person, or set up an appointment online, there will always be a long wait time and 8/10 you will not get actual assistance but the usual crisis helpline read through script; "And how does that make you fee?" "And what can you do about that?" "Would you like to come up with a list of goals on how to make things better?". Social-wise it doesn't really get any better, any time I joined a club it was a nightmare to actually get any info, and if you were new to a club have fun trying to actually find your way in socially. Genuinely have reached out to anyone and everyone I could think of when it comes to my gripes regarding this college, and had done so for THREE YEARS, but my time here feels futile and I feel more stuck now than when I originally enrolled here. read more

I would give this school zero stars. We only dealt with ACCESS center. If you or you have a child with learning disabilities of any kind, I would never send my child there and my now adult child has PTSD from the experience had for 4 years There. No Thank You! CA should be putting their money into better campus's, who create an environment on campus. The teachers aren't held accountable for discrimination and the ACCESS center is about as helpful as customer service in a language that doesn't exist. read more

1. when it come to signing up for class you better off just do online then in person because you get more benefit more on line then in person because it hard to schedule in person because times always conflict with each other. 2. financial aid do not believe when it will e release on the date i said it will be it take 3weeks after u need it 3. The cafeteria sucks all there vending machines and microwaves 4. If you have medical problems and you only can take 2-3 class you should be count as full time and get the full financial add 5. if you need a GE just to get your major and if your not major is that GE you should be allowed to have open books and notes. 6. After being a student here for a while I've grown to realize they'll create policy for just about anything they can in order to make your community college experience as difficult as possible. However, that's not why I'm writing. I'm writing because I'm two months into a semester and am enrolled in a kinesiology class. Basically, PE for college students. I've noticed the facilities could using a serious cleaning over time but ultimately disregarded the issue and just avoided contact all together, because a dirty gym is probably the worst for a workout. When I arrived today, along side the usual ants and flies in the ladies locker room, I noticed a rat trap. This is absolutely gross, I guess the inly option to change is the inside of your car. I'm pretty sure these sticker stains and clogged drains have been like that since I got here 2 months ago. I can understand the level of difficulty in cleaning up after gross college students, but at least make an effort! This is disgusting. Just some food for thought if you take the time to consider attending this school. read more

this is specifically for the counseling office.... Tell me how an 11 minute wait for 3 people at 10 am (when it opens) turns into a wait for an hour and 45 minutes. There is no one sitting at the desk and there is no way to let anyone know you're here to walk in for an appointment. And then when they do decide to come out they are all laughing while the people who wait are upset because it's been so long. Super frustrating when there is only a 2 hour walk in period and an 1 and 45 min are just them not helping anyone with questions. read more

Before registering to Moorpark College, I had considered joining the Navy, and I kid you not, the process for that was dozens of times easier. I grew up in Ventura County and went to Moorpark College right out of High School in the 90s, when it was referred to locals as "college on the hill". It us where we went to save money while being introduced to college life and becoming young adults. Located off the 23 and 118 freeways in the beautiful hills of Ventura County, sits this California campus. Back then it was only $7.00 a unit, now the prices have increased to $30 plus dollars a unit. Majoring in Liberal Studies with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education, this campus offers a beautiful child development center/training center and offers the core and elective classes necessary for your credential under the guidelines of California Department of Education. If your thinking of going into this field, you need to know there is no money in this field. You have to have a strong passion for teaching, and working with children birth through age 8. Moorpark College also has a wonderful Journalism programs, where I was 1 course away from a double Associates Degree. One of the best programs in Southern California. I was a staff writer for the college paper writing lifestyle articles, music reviews and one on internet dating. (Yea, I met my husband in a talk city chatroom in 1997, before people online went cra cra in the internet realm) I spent many long nights here working in the dark room, developing my own film and editing my articles in the newsroom. They even have classes on the history of film, where it was then I fell in love with Bonnie and Clyde as I stayed awake to understand the variety of genres in film. I want to seriously kick myself for not continuing to CSUN or CSUF for Journalism/Public Realtions. There is even a zoo on campus which houses several animals and is home to one of the best zoological programs around. Which is open on weekends with a very cheap enterance fee. So whats Moorpark College good for, other than taking care of your GE before transferring? (Yes, you will be getting your undergraduate degree elsewhere) Its good for Child Development, Journalism, Zoology and and helping you gain necessary life skills and a love of learning to lead you down the right path. The college caters to all ages, those still in high school and to the elderly who may just want to go back to school. read more

this school sucks. it's cheap but honestly just go to ventura or oxnard for school, because they make it such a hassle with being an online student. the counseling is okay. there should be more availability for online classes. and more understanding for students who can't come in. also being an online student, you don't get a student id which can bring a lot of problems. read more

People always look down at community colleges, and when I told my friends during my senior year that I was going to attend Moorpark, they asked, "Why?" . I even felt that my high school counselors put a negative stigma on Moorpark, and while I understand that it is important to push students to the highest potential, they should also push Moorpark College too. Before I went there, I was apprehensive about all the rumors like "No one graduates", "everyone stays there for 10 years", and "the classes are so easy." When I attended Moorpark, it was anything but the negative connotations. The faculty is phenomenal and really want to push you to do well and transfer. With classes priced at $20/ unit, how can you go wrong? I felt that my 2 years of General Ed's were just as good, if not better than other stories that I have heard about friends attending four-years. You are not just a number in the classroom, and a lot of the time, you can get that "1 on 1" individual attention. And classes are definitely not as "easy" as other people might think- it is a college-level class. I loved Moorpark College, and recommend it for everyone. I attend both Ventura college and Moorpark college as each fits my schedule in unique ways. I would have to say there is a noticeable difference between the two campuses. Aesthetics wise, moorpark college is very beautiful and you can see the care put into maintaining the campus. Student wise, the demographic appears dramatically different. When I attend classes at moorpark, the student are talking about the highlights of the last republican debate. Last week at Ventura college, I was being asked if I saw the democratic debate. Anywho.... The teachers at moorpark at hit or miss, but this is the same anywhere. Final thought: nice campus, challenging but seemingly fair instructors (especially the business department.). Would recommend to serious students. read more

Moorpark College is a pretty great campus full of wonderful staff members and professors. That being said though, there are certain things to be aware of before attending this college... 1. Parking is a nightmare! Arrive as early as possible to ensure you're not late for class. It's not solely the campus's fault because they've continually created more parking - it's just an over populated college. 2. Avoid express counseling! If at all possible, please take the time to make a real appointment with your assigned counselor because the express counselors are very unhelpful, rude, and foul. 3. Use RateMyProfessor! Most the professors at Moorpark College are phenomenal and truly want to see you succeed, doing anything that they can to ensure that happens. However, there still are some nasty professors that don't care about students, so use RateMyProfessor to ensure a good experience! Beyond this advice is a great college experience. Back in high school I was your typical "C or D" type of student, I really struggled, but once I registered at Moorpark College I actually began to really enjoy learning, attending class, and even got a 4.0 GPA! read more

Moorpark College​ is a great place to start taking Gen Ed classes. ​They are affordable​ as well as​ not far from lots of different cities. I have been enrolled in a ​few classes here for a few semesters and have had great results. The students​ are friendly and the staff is welcoming. They offer lots of classs and different​ majors. The professors​ are great to work with you can tell they want you so grow and succeed​. If you need accommodations​ they have a great program called access. They work with you and the Professors so you can achieve​ your very best. You can look online for a ​class that is​ coming up and what one you would like to register​ for as well as talk to a counselor​ about what is best for you. ​You have the option of going to campus or doing online or​ even hybrid​. I have done all and for some classes online is great others​ in person is the best. Some you might have to take in-person​ becaues of labs. Most sciences you will have to. I have to say I had one Professor​ that was amazing​ beyond words. She gave me so much hope and courage to keep fighting for what I want to do and to push past the hard​ spots. Being prior military, I am finding the education at Moorpark College to be a joke. Out of most professors, you might get one that actually teaches the material. Unfortunately, political matters reign every class, so instead of conversations or lectures about your course, they speak their personal opinions (& we're paying for this?) lasting sometimes the entire hour. I have found a few so unprofessional, I don't understand how they're still employed. I do understand the sharp decline of students now attending college. read more

I'm only taking 1 class here (but am here 10+ hours a week), so my review may be a bit biased. But the campus is super clean and well kept. Views are beautiful with the mountains in the background. My professors are very knowledgeable and fun and the health science office staff is very helpful and knowledgeable as well. For nursing and EMT students, they have a practice hospital wing and ambulance built which I think is awesome. Parking is never hard to find (I come at 4/5 though) and the buildings I am in are new, clean, and have the newest technology. read more

Dealing with the staff at Moorpark college is like dealing with your super condescending great aunt who you're only nice to because she's old, senile and you need your transcript. My one star review is based on the extremely poor customer service I received at Moorpark College which cost the opportunity to compete as a finalist for a large, prestigious scholarship. I took one class here about 10 years ago in high school. About five years after I completed my single course there, I needed a transcript to provide to a scholarship committee for a substantial college scholarship. I had requested the transcript for my single class months in advance, but it never arrived. I called repeatedly and began dealing directly with the transcript office who contended that it had never been ordered. Okay, so I ordered it via fax and in writing again. And again. and again. and again. And called to follow up, again and again and again. At some point, the transcript office concedes that they received "A" request and it was processed, but now I had to come pick it up in person. What?! I am at this point dealing with some head honcho in the transcript office who tells me they can't mail my transcript. So, I'm in the car like batman. I arrive at the transcript office in-person after a three hour drive for the extremely unfriendly person at the front to tell me that "Ms. X" has the day off. Unfortunately, my transcript is not with the other transcripts, There is a "note" that I must speak with this woman in person in order to get it. The desk mignon goes into an office, opens a drawer, picks up my transcript- reads a note on my transcript with instructions NOT to give me my transcript. She then shows me the note with the short and explicit instructions. The woman at the desk looks at me rather unsympathetically and says there is nothing that can be done (even though my transcript is in her hand). Well, three hoops of fire and 5 years later and as of this posting I still don't have that transcript from that request. I totally gave up after that ordeal. Getting my transcript was worse than dealing with the IRS during an audit. Community colleges are fantastic, I know...I transferred from one to UC Berkeley. However, I think the administrative staff at Moorpark are an extremely poor representation of the stellar offerings at the California Community College system. read more

I'm absolutely sick of Moorpark College! There are budget cuts and more budget cuts. What does this mean for students? You're classes could be cancelled one week prior to the start of the semester. There will be absolutely no chance of getting into another class because they all fill up the first day of registration (within a few hours). So, what does that mean for a two year AA? It turns into a four year AA!!! I'm one class away from transferring to University, because my class was just cancelled, AGAIN!!! I would go straight to University if I were you. Plus, there are nowhere near enough Counselor's to support the student body. So, if you think you can get in real quick to see them, think again, two weeks minimum. Plus, if you talk to the dean, she'll say it's the budget cuts and there's nothing she can do. I'd give 0 stars if I could! read more

MC did not impress me when I took summer classes here. I spent 2 years at Santa Barbara City College, and did 1 summer session at MC. MC's campus is actually pretty nice. No complaints there. However, the bookstore is small, if I remember they don't accept AmEx or some mainstream way of payment, and that caused some problems for me. Their online registration thing was terrible. It caused me all kinds of problems, from registering for classes, and even just logging in. It felt like the Admin had a more highschool feel to it, rather than a college feel to it. Comparing to SBCC, SBCC treated you like an adult and an educated human being. MC treated you like you were in high school and needed constant supervision. Overall, I'm glad I was able to get out of Simi and not go to MC all school year. read more

It's hard to hate on Moorpark. It really is a good CC! Classes are not that stuffed, staff on average is friendly, and professors mostly competent. Frustration comes from taking 101 classes with a body of students who mostly couldn't care less. Put your nose to the grindstone, dont expect to make friends, and you'll come out on top. After too many semesters at VC, Moorpark College was like a breath of fresh air (and not only because the number of smokers on campus was way less.) I found instructors that actually cared and were interesting and commanded the subject matter (Patricia Coleman!) and classmates that, for the most part, actually stayed in the class instead of dropping three weeks in. The biggest downfall is parking. If you try to park in the main lots, I suggest you follow my method of pull out and pray. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've been thisclose to being hit by someone, how many accidents I've viewed, and how much of a downright terrifying experience parking at Moorpark College can be. Your alternative is to park in the dirt lot, that my friends and I lovingly referred to as Desert Storm. Seriously, bring a bandana to cover your mouth with and prepare to come to class looking like you've spent the last two weeks living as a nomad in the desert. I seriously think I've gotten dirtier in that parking lot, than I did at three days at Coachella. read more

This review is based on a time before Covid. Most counselors forget to say Important details. It took me awhile to realize this so I started going to get appointments with a counselor again right after the first one just to double check I got all the information and if there was any other better way that I can go about my problem in the case the first counselor messed up. Absolutely loved the school! the campus, people, professors made me feel at home... the professors are very knowledgable, although the counselors screwed me over a few time with my transfer planning guidelines! Great science program! I'd definitely go back and take more classes but just for myself. The dance department is amazing, full of very talented and bright personalities. I took some classes here during my summers in high school/college and I had better and more inspiring teachers/professors than I've had in high school, college and law school. If I had to choose a community college in the LA/Ventura area, I would have definitely picked Moorpark. Not only were the teachers exceptional, the campus is nice and clean, and the people I met there were friendly and down to earth. I remember my time their fondly and recommend taking classes there if you get the chance. read more

The only classes that I took here were for myself... and were interior design classes. I have to say the interior design classes were absolutely amazing!! Where else can you take a Fabric class!!!! Ahhh! Loved Loved Loved that class!! I learned all about one of my favorite topics... fabrics. I used to constantly carry scissors in my purse because of this class (and I'm talking huge fabric shears) - anyway, we studied different types of fabrics, how their made, woven, etc... and then had this huge workbook with blank places...where we'd have to use our "fabric library" to find samples based on our knowledge and cut a piece and tape them into out workbook. I loved this class. I really really did. It was the best! Just thinking about it is making me giddy! Anyway, Tim is a great teacher! I took a couple other interior design classes with him... history of furniture (another very interesting class), lighting (again another interesting class) and just a whole bunch of other classes. I did intern for a really tiny bit at an Interior Design firm in Chatsworth from some connections I made here...and could have pursued it... but didn't. I did learn a lot... and I have to say these classes were really amazing and interesting.... also took a faux finishing class. I don't know.. those are the ones that stand out in my mind now... but the teachers were all excellent, "in the field" and very very knowledgeable in every aspect of interior design. read more

I have to say I was quite impressed by the years I spent at Moorpark. It soon because like home for me, the teachers are awesome (minus a select few, like any school) and the new library is so sophisticated and state of the art, you would never know that california experiences gracious budget cuts every 3-5 minutes. read more

Great school. Its so hard to focus in class without a cafe. I happen to be low blood sugar I just hated wondering where the hell can I get some good nutrion? Mc Donalds? In n out? Dell taco ? Panda express? Yes I'm aware of them being close by....but Maybe if the board of directors weren't pocketing all the extra change(which they have gotten in trouble for) I would be able to do well in class with healthy better options. Bring back the raiders cafe please!!! Ugh idk so much to type about this admin in general of this school needs re grouping. read more
