I was looking forward to this place since booking my reservation. They do not take walk-ins. You have to book a reservation via email. The place is small and cozy. The staff is superb. The menu is small, but expected for the type of restaurant. There are options for vegetarians. If you are not a vegetarian, you may enjoy this place a little better since their meat dishes are the stars of the show. We started off with sangria. It's not the typical Sangria you think of. It's not sweet at all. I'm ok with that, but my friend wasn't too fond of it. It's is homemade. For our appetizer, we had the Mekike. It is fried bread that came with a cream cheese dip and a tomato dip. We loved this. Who doesn't love bread? For my main dish, I had the posni pilav with the sopska salad. The salad was simple and didn't have dressing, but delicious. The feta cheese added great flavor to the tomatoes and cucumber. By the time the posni pilav arrived, I was so stuffed that I could only take a few bites. I will admit that the dish doesn't look appealing, but it was pretty good. It didn't lack in flavor and it was a good portion. The meal can be pricy, but expected. Parking is on site, but shared with the other businesses.

Visited this very well reviewed place sometime back on our way to Denali Park. They are owned by Michael and Maya. Here is the summary of my review and experience there. 1) Ambiance 5/5: The ambiance is not your typical one that you would see in any other restaurant. This place is very different and you could see the thought and culture on display. Even the restrooms are well though out. It has a very rustic vibe with Serbian themes. 2) Service 5/5: The people and the owners are super nice and they really make you feel special here. Everyone is super helpful and explains everything delightfully. They have some of the most incredible stories to tell you. It was so great that I would like to thank everyone by name - Gary was our server who was very helpful. Peter helped with drink. Polina hlped with some hiking suggestions. Elizabeth was at the back of the kitchen. 3) Food 3/5: This is where I was the most disappointed. Although everything else was great, the food was not the best. I feel the food was a let down to their amazing hospitality and decor. Here is the summary of what we had: a) Pilici Pilav: It is chicken rice which tasted bland. It was like Indian Chicken Khichdi but with much less flavor. Not a fan and didnt not like the chicken in it. b) Meze Platter: This was good. I am not a fan of Pork but this was good and crispy. The Rgussian salad was ood. c) Grandmother's chocolate cake: The cake was meh with more oats than chocolate and it was peanut butter in it which I am not a fan of. d) Vegan Dessert: We were confused about the cheesecake of this vegan dessert and asked the server. They insisted on this and said this is their best seller. It was such a let down. He said we wont know it was vegan and gluten free - Oh we knew it in every bite. We ate less than 25% of it, packd it and then ultimately had to throw it away. I so wish we had not listened to him and had the cheesecake. 4) Value for Money 2/5: The service and decor are great but the soul aka the food is kinda let down plus they are pricey. So not the best. Even though the place looks like a hole in the wall place, it is costly. The good: i) The decor ii) Service iii) People Not so Good: 1) Food 2) Price 3) Vegan Dessert

We were visiting Alaska for a few days and stopped by for dinner. We didn't have a reservation but only had to wait 10 minutes for a table of four. They have a fire pit in a covered balcony for the waiting area which helped with the outside cold. The service was really amazing and the decor was cozy. We ordered the meze platter, meat stuffed pepper, sarma, Kardjordjeva schnitzel, vegan daily soup, and meat daily soup. To be honest, I dont think the Serbian taste profile meshes quite well with my own taste but I could tell the food was well-prepared. The flavors are not as complex as I typically enjoy but also I don't have anything else to compare this with. It's definitely a fun spot to try something new while in Alaska!

Dinner at Moose-Aka's is not just a meal, it's an experience. First of all, you MUST have reservations. They do not accept walk ups at all. I noticed on their website they said that reservations must be made 24-hours in advance by email. We were within the 24 hours, but I wrote them anyway. What did I have to lose? As it happens, they had a cancellation and they offered us the open table, which we accepted. The restaurant is Balkan, which is a bold choice for such a small tourist area. The interior is dark and cozy. There are only about twelve tables inside. We were greeted by the cheerful hostess. We were made to feel at home. Once we were seated, the chef came by. He told us that he insists on explaining the menu to each table. A very personal touch. My wife and I are familiar with Eastern European food, so we took in the menu quickly. We started with the meze platter, which included a sampling of four different appetizers. Everything was wonderful! We ordered pitcher of sangria to drink. It was very tasty, full of fruit, and I might add, pretty strong! For the main, my wife chose the Sarma, cabbage leaves stuffed with ground beef and seasonings. It was very good, but perhaps a touch bland. We would have liked a bit more flavor in the sauce. I chose the Kardjordjeva Schnitzel it is essentially a pork version of a cordon bleu. It was magnificent! We ordered two desserts, the Grandmother's chocolate cake, and the cheesecake crepe. The chocolate cake was not to my liking, but the crepe was one of the best desserts I've ever eaten. Denali has no right to have such an amazing restaurant! The staff is incredibly attentive and friendly. The food was amazing! My wife talked about our experience all the way back to the hotel. Definitely the best dining experience available in Denali, if not all of Alaska!

Truly a unique dining experience that I'd never expect while exploring Denali NP. From the moment we walked in, the servers are all so attentitive and polite. It felt like we were so welcomed! Each person that works here on the floor will monitor each table, whether or not they are the person assigned to that table. We never had to wave down anyone to get their attention or ask for something we needed. They all loved conversing and giving their own recommendations for the park as well, which was really nice! As for the food, we decided on getting the stuffed bell peppers and the veggie pilaf. Both were pretty filling and delicious. Although a bit pricier than your average dining spot, definitely recommend considering eating here after a day of exploring Denali!

A great little restaurant with a super ambiance and excellent Serb and eastern Euro cuisine. The sarma was authentic and delicious although a little smaller in proportion than what I grew up eating, but perfect and brought great memories. Tenderloin was also nicely done and not greasy with great flavors. Definitely get the full appetizer plate to start with a selection of the main apps. Pair with Serb beer and try both as they are similar. I was too full for dessert but I'm sure it was as good as the main courses. Recommended.

This place is a diamond in the rough at Denali. Being open for only 3-4 months of the year, they have to garner all the profits before the tourist season closes. I was definitely fortunate to able to try this place out. Never mind all the accolades that this place has received, it's all about the personal experience that matters. When you walk it, there's a very unique ancient traveler's decor that lines the walls and ceiling. It creates an exotic atmosphere that is pretty inviting and adds to the eating experience. The servers are extremely friendly and nice. They display a nice personal touch and can start and carry such a natural conversation that makes you feel extremely welcomed. Now onto the food. I had the Karadjordjeva Schnitzel which is fried pork sirloin stuffed with cheese and ham. It was delicious! The pork was flavorful and I absolutely loved the garlic mashed potatoes that it came with. Also the asparagus gave it a nice contrast with the heaviness of the potatoes and schnitzel. The sauce that came with it kept the schnitzel from becoming bland, which was a nice touch. But the Nutella and Banana Crepe w/vanilla ice cream... yeah... Fire! It's so good. The crispness of the crepe combine with the flavors of banana and Nutella. Joygasm! Definitely something to try! If you get the opportunity, definitely seek this place out. Find out for yourself why others have enjoyed this place as much as I have!

Highly recommend this place for anyone traveling to or staying at Denali. Service and ambiance were phenomenal here. Staff was really friendly in helping us with our food selections and our stay at Denali by providing hidden gems around the area. Don't miss this restaurant if you're in the area!

This was the best meal I had the entire trip. The restaurant is extremely out of place for nowhere Alaska but the service and food would put this city on the map. The ambiance makes you feel like you are in Europe with the decor and music. The food was delish and the sangria was good. Highly recommended visiting!

I went in with high expectations, and this place came through. The service was some of the best I've experienced in a long, long time. The food was EXCELLENT! We shared 2 appetizers and one entree. And we couldn't finish it all. Normally, we'd have taken leftovers home, but we were in a hotel with no microwave, so.... Yep, we hurt ourselves a bit. They not only didn't charge us for splitting the entree, but were kind enough to split it for us. Sat out in the front room with a small fire burning. Very cozy! Just everything about this place was top notch.

Very friendly team of servers with excellent hospitality attitude, and excellent food. It's hard to know what to say when it's all so good. I wasn't sure what sangria I might like, so they gave me a sample of both and I found the red to be sweet and the white to be more savory, so I opted for the savory. Decided to share the meze platter and the Sarma entree as both are too much portion for one but plenty to share and got a great sampling of Serbian flavors, dips, and seasonings. I'd never had cabbage that was so tender it acted like a noodle, but that's what the Sarma felt and tasted like- a meat and rice dumpling! Excellent flavors on everything and loved the chef's special dip and red pepper spread. Try to get in before 6pm, or you may have to wait until after 7:30pm, as they don't take reservations and can only accommodate tables based on what's available.

This place has the rating and volume of reviews it does for a reason. We had a great experience and it was wonderful to find something other than a brewery, pizza, or burger place in Alaska. We started with the Serbian Fry bread, I forget its name, but it was delicious and I loved the sour cream & red pepper sauce with it. We also had an appetizer of the Olivier salad and it was great. We finished with the moussaka and loved it, and the special dessert was like a custard with cinnamon and fruit that was well worth it. Great service, cute ambiance, definitely a must by Denali.

What an unexpected gem! The service was great! The food was amazing! The decor is charming! We had the mezze platter to start and some Serbian crepes and schnitzel. Good for both carnivores and vegetarians Great way to finish our day -- would give more stars if I could! read more

First of all, go early! They don't take reservations (at least right now, although they used to). We went at 5:30 on a Tuesday and the wait was 90 minutes. They call you when the table is ready, but there's not much to do around the restaurant, so definitely plan ahead. The service and experience were amazing. The staff is small (like four people) and you'll see everyone during your meal. Very attentive to empty dishes, refilling water, etc. Everyone was very knowledgeable about the menu. My wife had a schnitzel and we also had every vegan thing on the menu--the soup, the fry bread, the stuffed peppers. Vegan food in this area is hard to come by, so just having a full meal option was awesome. The food was great--especially the soup and stuffed peppers. Nice seasoning--you could tell they actually cared about making the food good instead of just checking the "vegan option" box. We both got dessert and coffee and that was very good as well. This is not a quick in-and-out meal. The experience and ambiance obviously matter to the owners. You're told at the outset of the meal that they do "European style"--i.e., they won't bring your check until you ask. Despite this, I noticed at least two tables near us being snippy with the staff because they were "waiting" for their check, even though they hadn't asked. The dining room was nice but not super quiet or stuffy. We brought our toddler and didn't feel like we were disturbing anyone. We will definitely be returning next time we're in the area! read more

We were out walking and looked up Moose-AKa's to check reviews- I can honestly tell you- the reviews do not lie! It is clear that everyone who works here is proud of the restaurant. The service is beyond exceptional, the food- OMG delicious! The atmosphere is cozy, friendly, and absolutely adorable. Our server Caroline provided us with helpful suggestions and answered all of our questions. Everyone worked together and I did not see a dissatisfied customer (or employee) in the place. I highly recommend eating here. Try the Serbian wine choices and definitely the Meze platter to sample all of the yumminess. read more

If you are in Denali and don't try this restaurant you will miss the best dining experience in Alaska. The food was fabulous as well as the service. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the Chicken Pilaf, and it was amazing! The atmosphere is truly incredible, from the unique tables to the beautiful pitchers of water. The servers were welcoming, polite, and always on the ball. My glass of water was never more than half empty, and I was shown how to drink Turkish coffee. All in all, it was a stunning experience and I highly recommend. read more

This place blew me away. From service to food, it's some of the best in all of Alaska. The flow, organization, and attention to detail were spot on. The food was equally as impressive. We came for the mountain but will return for this place no doubt. read more

What a surprising treat around Denali! We had low expectations and were pleasantly surprised by our service and our food!! It was a five star experience. We had the Turkish coffee and the coffee with Irish cream. Both were delicious and our sever explained to us what to expect from Turkish coffee. We ordered the mekitsi (bread appetizer), the pizza calzone type crepe, and the apple pie crepe a la mode. It was all amazing. The crepes are actually deep fried so it's unlike any crepe I had tried before. Very savory and a great treat after a day of hiking! read more

What an amazing place and a great change in cuisine from the typical Alaskan seafood. (Don't get me wrong, I love the Alaska seafood!) From stepping in the door, greeted by the enthusiastic and ready-to-please host (I'm assuming she may have some ownership) and the extremely great communicator gentleman who was our waiter, everything was fantastic. He assured us that anyone working in the restaurant could help us if we needed anything. The food was outstanding and his recommendations were spot on! The decor was interesting and representative of the restaurant food and heritage. You could spend a lot of time looking at all the details!! This restaurant is a must-eat-here place when visiting Denali National Park! read more

You know when you get to that 8th day of your vacation and you absolutely cannot eat another burger or halibut and chips no matter how good it is? well, then you see a menu like Moose-aka's and you are just in foodie heaven. so unique, so delicious. This is a serbian creperie - is that a thing? We had the serbian fried bread with the red pepper spread whose name I forget. Then husband had the fried chicken flash fried crepe (like a fried chicken chimichanga) and I decided to be silly and went for the PB&J one. we were not disappointed. We washed it all down with a very nice dry Serbian riesling while watching the rafting people get kitted out for their ride. read more

Moose-aka's was such a highlight for our Denali trip. We were tired and starving from our drive up from Anchorage and were so excited to come across the restaurant. Zac was our server and he was so helpful in explaining all the different menu items, as well as give us recommendations. My husband had the Schnitzel and I had the Moussaka, both were delicious. The schnitzel was so flavorful and was probably the best schnitzel we've had! We shared a crepe for dessert and it was the perfect end of our meal. We'd highly recommend anyone to check out Moose-aka's if you're in the Denali area!! read more

This restaurant was SO delicious and wonderfully unique!! It is a traditional Eastern European restaurant so you are encouraged to take your time and enjoy your meal instead of being rushed through the dinner! The staff was excellent and so attentive!! It was 8pm and the waitress told my party of 5 that there weren't any seats open and turned us away. We noticed that no one was sitting on the patio and asked if we could dine there. She hesitated, but allowed us to. I thought it was a little strange that she would rather lose paying customers than offer the patio, but thankfully our experience improved after our initial encounter. Food was unique, but portions were too small. We also order a pitcher of sangria. I'm (kind of) petite and was still a little hungry after dinner. My poor boyfriend had to eat a cup of noodle... Total came out to ~$165 after tax and tip read more

Who knew the best thing I'd eat would come from a Serbian restaurant found in Denali?!? Waiter - Scott and hostess - Maja were wonderful. The chef even came out and greeted us! We had red sangria (received a sample when we sat down of both red and white sangria. As they had just opened - Maja explained how she came to be in Alaska from Serbia (ask her she's incredible). Ordered the mousaka, 2 Crepes ground beef and calzone- everything wonderful. My hubby tried to keep the banana Nutella Crepe all to himself. The Turkish Coffee was great - but you have to like super strong espresso like coffee with grounds in it..traditional Turkish Coffee not for the weak. All in all we loved all the food, service was beyond - would eat here again, and again....maybe I could pack them in my suitcase read more

Open during summer months, currently just open for dinner 5 days a week from 4-9 pm. Knowing from other Yelp reviews that they would be busy, I called ahead today (Thurs 9/7/23). They do not currently take reservations, but if you call 20 minutes ahead, the friendly manager Maja will let you know what the wait is and will put you on their wait list and let you know when they expect a table to be ready for you. The wait staff are all wonderful and take pride in taking great care of their customers. The food and drink was excellent, no complaints there! This place is phenomenal. The food, the service, the ambiance. It's perfect. I have many food allergies and the time and concern taken to assure my needs were met left me mesmerized at how much they actually cared. The chef is a master of culinary talent. I've never had more delicious food in my life. He should be famous. Exquisite. Friendly, kind, delicious. If you pass this place up you have made a big mistake. We will be back to Denali just for this place alone. read more

Moose-AKa's is open for DINNER ONLY for the 2021 summer season because of all the staffing shortages in Denali (thanks to covid travel restrictions affecting US work visas internationally) and you REALLY should reserve a table a couple days in advance- the place is TINY and worth your every effort!!! This restaurant is the best kind of surprise that everyone hopes to experience on their vacation- a unique, hidden gem in an unlikely part of the world that becomes a fabulous memory you cannot wait to tell friends back home about. A true dining experience! Moose-AKa's is a cozy, candle-lit, Serbian tavern that transports you to Eastern Europe when you walk through the door. If the beautifully decorated atmosphere and awesome scratch-made dinner doesn't convince you that you've teleported out of the US for a night, then Moose-AKa's 5-star service will seal the European illusion. The hostess, server and head chef / owner are a seamless, 3-man operation when running the intimate place, and their attention to detail is beautiful to behold. Every person working there comes up to every single table and chats like they are hosting their family- explaining the drinks and desserts and how entrees are made fresh every day- it's a special place that EVERYONE can afford to enjoy. REAL European food (and veg / DF / GF / vegan options!) with REAL Turkish coffee and REAL intention put into every aspect of this restaurant has only translated that Moose-AKa's has some REAL love to give every single one of their guests. We had the most beautiful night on the mountain-view deck, with a bottle of incredible Serbian cabernet and some heart-warming conversation with our professional server, Zac. We literally felt and ate like family when we were there- all for less than $100!!!! THANK-YOU MOOSE-AKA's FOR THE SERVICE YOU PROVIDE TO DENALI - YOUR HARD WORK WAS INCREDIBLE AND EXQUISITE IN EVERY WAY!!! Reserve a table online asap!! They are closed Wednesdays but open 4-10 for dinner the rest of the week-you do not want to miss this place. read more

Dear traveler - if you find yourself in Denali with 2-4+ kids in tow, all screaming at various volumes and octaves for chicken fingers or the other crap-food that can be found at several places here, I fear what I'm about to say will give you no quarter. Chicken-finger-deprived children must be sated with chicken fingers. Godspeed on your journey. But if you are looking for a truly amazing, charming and endlessly pleasing dining experience, I beseech you to limit your dining destinations in the Denali area to include Moose-AKa's and only Moose-AKa's. Do NOT let the potentially-initially-confusing-but-tres-muy-apropos name of this place send you to the closest purveyor of food with a more traditional restaurant-y name - this place is the REAL DEAL. Truly amazing food served by kind, interesting humans, in a beautifully curated space. I don't know from Serbian food - all I know is everything I ate was truly fabulous and genuinely memorable. Once I discovered the magic found at Moose-AKa's, I ate all my remaining meals there - it's that good. I dare you to stop by for just a quick snack (holy moly the special dessert!!) and not fall in love with the place, it's people and every damn thing on the menu. This place is what restaurants should be - truly amazing food, served by people you want in your group dinner photo, in a beautiful, enchanting environment. For those of you smart enough to give this place a shot, I don't expect you to thank me, but just in case, you're welcome read more

I hope Michael and Maja open a third place in Kennett Square, PA! Firstly, don't let the lack of reviews here (in numbers as of 2017) turn you away. Head over to trip advisor and you'll see the same five star quality in 100+ reviews... I typically don't bother leaving yelp reviews for restaurants, but moose Aka's really deserves more attention. In my week long trip here in Alaska, undoubtedly the best meal I've had. We settled in for brunch @ their opening 10 am. I got a blueberry cheesecake crepe which was surprisingly light, the ambience was great, and the serving staff was very friendly. I truly recommend the brunch timeframe, since most people will be out in the mountains (serving is speedy)! Overall, high praise for this one! read more

I do not understand the appeal of this place. I didn't see anything on the menu that looked good, but I went on the strength of the reviews and personal recommendations. I must not like Serbian food. Wow. Completely blown away! First when you walk in... Take a minute to let your eyes adjust from the midnight sun.... You then choose your seat, at the beautifully crafted bar, where you can view the kitchen through the pass window, one of the unique penny top tables, a large comfortable booth where you are below a lovely hand crafted spoon chandelier, or even outside on the porch. Then. The menu. Which rotates through out the day. I've been coming to Denali National Park for 25 years. There's now another reason to visit the park; Moose AKa's! It's hands-down the best food I've ever had near the park--maybe the best food anywhere-EVER! Beautiful atmosphere. Very cozy and clean. Everything is fresh, organic and made-to-order. There should be a line out the door and down the block! Seriously good. Excellent service. They have had over 35 5 Yelp reviews but they were deleted because Yelp wants $$$$s! All this--culinary artistry, superb service and a beautiful eclectic atmosphere for very little $s. Please support great eateries! 5s aren't enough read more

********A MUST SEE******** After a nice game of Golf on the tundra we decided to go further and explore the Denali Board Mall... After we reserved our seats for a white water rafting in the Nenana River we found this AMAZING Serbian restaurant. The FOOD was amazing, Staff and the Chef were very accommodating while we enjoyed our three1/2 hour stay listening to music, enjoying conversation with new friends and OH let's NOT forget the SANGRIA that kept on coming~~~ Mama, Ali and Chef Mike, WE WILL SEE YOU SOON AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE! read more

I've been eating at Moose-Aka's since it's beginning as a food truck in Healy. Since then the location and venue have changed but the food is as phenomenal as ever. They have a sophisticated dining room that they built themselves, the staff are all locals with plentiful information about the area and it's history, and they serve lunch and dinner with traditional Turkish coffee poured all day long! They serve fried meat crepes, sweet crepes, soup & salads, as well as traditional Serbian delicacies. A must stop on your stay in Denali! read more

First when we went to the restaurant there wasn't enough space inside and it was shivering cold outside (1°C), so the waitress told us we can go to a patio with a small fire pit and have us a menu to look at the food while we were waiting for a table. When we finally got a table we all knew what to get. I forgot what I got, but my meal was a crêpe filled with Mozzarella cheese, Pepperoni, Tomato sauce, with some sauce on the side. My brother got a Fried Meat Crêpe. The dessert was absolutely amazing! read more

My hiking buddy and I came here for dinner after a long hike, and HOLY MOLY. Quite possibly the best food in Alaska, and it's right outside the park. Bring your appetite. The whole place has a very familial feel, the service is great, the portions are generous, and each dish was a 10/10. We went back the next morning for breakfast to fuel up for a long bike ride, the then went back again that night. It's that good. I intend to return to Denali, and honestly Moose-aka's is a big reason why. read more

Moose-AKa's is a true hidden gem in Denali! Run by a wonderful wife-and-husband team, this Serbian restaurant blends artistic flair with incredible food. The wife's artistic vision is reflected in every detail of the decor, creating a warm, rustic, and inviting atmosphere. The husband, as chef, serves up delicious Serbian and Eastern European dishes for both vegan and non-vegan guests. And the cocktails? Just as impressive as the meals. A must-visit dining experience! read more

Absolutely awesome! Got here with my friends during the 3rd day of their soft opening and its great! We had almost everything on the menu between the 6 of us but we are all super satisfied. The service was some of the best I've had in my life. Very friendly and very informative. Got to learn about the food and roots of where the food comes from. Would whole heartedly recommend to everyone going through Denali to stop by. Can't put into words how great this place is. read more

This was our favorite restaurant that we ate at during our trip to Alaska. My boyfriend who is well traveled said it was one of his top 3 favorite meals of all time. We were in the area for 3 nights and ate their two. The third they were closed so we got a crepe to go and reheated it that day. We loved everything: the food of course, the staff, and the atmosphere. You really can't go wrong here unless you decide not to go. read more

There a few times in life when a meal is perfectly crafted. This is by far the best meal I've had while vacationing in Alaska. We had the Fried Calzone Crepe and Strawberry Cheesecake Crepe. I wanted to order everything. The owner's are friendly and full of life! I would eat here everyday if I could! read more

Everything was so amazing! The staff was wonderful, and the decorations were handmade or brought over from Serbia. The food was probably some of the best I've had, especially the fried bread with the red pepper. We even got a history lesson with our meal! read more
