    Seafood chowder

Attached to the Denali Bluffs Hotel, I hesitated to eat there because of a bad Yelp score. This is one time the Yelp score was wrong. While not really a 5 star, it definitely proved itself as a 4.5 on a couple of recent visits (I can't help that Yelp doesn't trust reviewers with half-stars). Keeping with the Denali fueled theme, it is essentially a log cabin restaurant. High ceilings and a nice-sized bar welcome visitors. Also welcoming were each of the employees we encountered. Smiles and kind words were a consistent part of our dining experiences. It doesn't have a huge menu; however, there is no reason for someone to not find something to their liking. While somewhat pricey, it wasn't out-of-line with other places in this tourist driven community. Personally, I had some of the best barbecued ribs I ever had. A great smoke ring was evident on the fall-off-the-bone ribs. A house made cup of sauce, everything potato salad and coleslaw accompanied this huge rack ($38). One of my dining partners had a chicken sandwich with waffle fries. They enjoyed it. On our second visit, I had a bowl of the seafood chowder ($15) and an order of chicken wings ($22). Both were served at appropriate temperature and were satisfying. The chowder was filled with fish, vegetables and clams. My dining partner enjoyed their wagyu burger and waffle fries. A cast iron prepared chocolate chip cookie topped with ice cream was a great finish. One of our other dining partners was not happy with the quality of their fish dinner but wasn't so unsatisfied to address it with our waiter. We also had drinks from the bar. While expensive ($14-16), they were well made drinks. Our waiter came back several times to check on whether people wanted more drinks. The only issue I had with anything related to the restaurant was the lame reviews that resulted in their low overall score.

Came here with some hesitation after reading other reviews, but loved the friendly vibe, great service and delicious-fresh wedge salad, cornbread, chili and grilled cheese (which will carry well tomorrow for our 5:30 a.m. Denali expedition)!

We stopped in after a long day looking for a bite to eat. This restaurant is within the Denali Bluffs Hotel. Service was fast and friendly. I had a cheeseburger with waffle fries. The cheeseburger came with pepper cheese, brioche bun, pickles, tomato and onion. The burger was cooked perfectly but the tomato was not ripe and the pickles were of poor quality. (This was a $16 burger, at that price it should be awesome.) the fries were just ok. My SO has a Cesar salad with smoked salmon. It was small and the smoked salmon was very salty. So salty that she couldn't finish it - It was $19. Sorry but for the price we were underwhelmed.

This restaurant was located at the Denali bluffs hotel. It had a wonderful selection of beer. Alaskan IPAs are awesome! The staff were very friendly and I had a good time chatting with the manager who is also a former Marine. This place was run by a wonderful group of people!

The Mountaineer is an on-site restaurant for the Denali Bluffs Lodge so naturally we ate there several times over our short stay there. They offered a full breakfast buffet in the morning that had the usual variety of food that was tasty and satisfied our hunger; it does get busy at certain times as when everyone is trying to eat quickly and catch their bus tour so plan your meal times to avoid the rush if possible. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of our orders because we were usually too hungry and I forgot. But they did have a variety of choices for just about anyone's taste. Later in the day they have a menu with various sandwiches, salads, and entrees available. Everything we ordered was good and filling. The staff was friendly and helpful with seating, especially when it was busy, and answered any of our questions about the menu and the area. Pricing may be a little high if you were surrounded by dozens of restaurants and fast food joints-but we weren't so I thought prices were reasonable. Plus I've never eaten at a McDonald's or Burger King with this kind of view. And their bus would take you to some of the nearby places to eat if you asked.

A very underrated restaurant in Denali. The service, view and food were excellent. The fish and chips were just right with cod.

On the first visit we sat at the bar to avoid the wait. Bartenders were friendly even though many were working their first day of the season. Ordered the cub size (12") Boreal Forest which is perfect for 2 people. Also had a few beers from their very long menu. Inside was cabin cozy. They also have outdoor seating. Overall, excellent experience! Boreal 5/5 stars. For our second visit, we needed a quick lunch between two excursions so we ordered pickup and tried the Homestead this time. Took 20 minutes from calling in to the pizza being ready which worked well. Homestead 4/5 stars, crust was still amazing but pizza felt like it needed something more. Very happy we found this place on our first day in Denali.

If I was just rating the pizza, it'd be a 4 stars cause we thoroughly enjoyed it. Average size for…read morethe price, good amount of cheese (almost too heavy personally) and pepperoni but fantastic crust. Super light, nice air bubbles and charred just enough but not burnt. Crust had nice structure/crumb and chew as well. Really solid overall and would definitely get it again. My few issues: -Saturday late afternoon/early evening I get it'll be busy but the front of house was just way unorganized and none of the staff seemed super helpful till I had actually ask someone where to place a to go order. I was literally standing in front of them and no one acknowledged me lol. It was also so cramped with people standing around everywhere for no reason it seemed. -We ordered to go as mentioned and they text you when your order is ready. Cool, not a problem. What they forgot to mention was you get a text as items on your order become ready. So you'll get your appetizers or whatever else that are quicker to make well before your actual pizza. Do you eat them hot in your car while waiting for the rest of your order? Or let them get cold and eat them when you get home later? Who does it that way?!? Absolutely ridiculous and so dumb. Have proper kitchen planning and make food so it all comes out hot and at once. -Just FYI, the ravioli appetizer for $16 came with 5 raviolis. Yeah you hear that right, only FIVE raviolis in an order for 16 bucks. That should be a crime and such a rip off. I expected at least 10 of them for that price. But hey, you get both marinara and pesto, so that's nice. -Last issue was when they brought my pizza, it didn't have my ranch's that I ordered and paid for. It took probably 5 minutes and the staff going back n forth 3 times saying someone must've taken them. It took a manager to get ranch's from the kitchen and bring them up front...Then tells the to go staff that the kitchen sent them with my ravioli that was sent half an hour earlier, which they didn't. Why was it so hard to get some ranch?! And I paid $50 for a pizza, appetizer and can of side, why would I lie about getting my extra sauce? Shouldn't have even been an issue for a dollar worth of ranch IMO.. I gave it a 3 star overall because the pizza was really good and would've given it a 4* on its own but everything else was a 2* as outlined above. Definitely things that could be improved upon at the end of the day, but they do make some really solid pizza.

My first impression upon checking in at the hostess station and looking into the seating area, was that it might not be as good an experience as I'd hoped. I was wrong. They were jammed. We got seated at one of three 2-tops next to the open kitchen. Normally I enjoy being able to watch food being prepared but I thought it was going to be too loud and busy. Well, it was loud but tolerable and it was a very busy space but I really enjoyed watching the grill-man, the other prep folks as well as the 2 People doing the finishing touches, garnishes and delivering the food. Our server was Regan. What a pleasure she was. Really delightful, helpful and attentive. We ordered cocktails and an appetizer and slowly enjoyed both. Later, we ordered a single meal to share. We loved it! Here's what we had: Drinks: Cosmo cocktail Lavender Gin cocktail Blackberry Smash cocktail All the drinks were well crafted and very tasty. Appetizer: Halibut Bites Really nice appetizer. Salad: Wedge with Blue Cheese dressing The salad was large enough to share and we asked for some extra dressing. Really good. Side: Marscapone Potato Gratin These were really special. Love it. Main: Prime Beef Filet with Lobster Herb Butter Oh my word, super tender and flavorful. If we find ourselves back in the area, we'd eat here again!

And lots of vegetarian options, which is very necessary for our 1 week trip. ;) The show is spectacular! They are so professional and funny! One of the characters described was partially responsible for creating Denali national park. The problem I had with the show itself was that there was NO INDIGENOUS REPRESENTATION at all. Since coming to Alaska we have been learning constantly about the horrible atrocities committed to the native population in the name of white greed and Christian nationalism. We have also learned that these issues are pretty prevalent in Alaska today also, so I found it very offensive that they presented a white washed show like that. The food was what you would expect flavor-wise for a dinner theater but what made me really put off was that we had a global pandemic less than a decade ago and it's like this company learned nothing from it. You are expected to pass your plate to the 11 other people sitting at your table so they can put the food on your plate for you. We spent a week in a petri dish (cruise ship) before this land tour and I would say 10-25 percent of the people are obviously ill, I don't want anyone but a trained chef with experience in food safety to touch my food thank you. Overall I would recommend avoiding this dinner theater and donating the cost of it to native Alaskan charities or cultural groups. To the cast and crew, "please please please show some scruples and don't avoid the real story of Alaska's gold rush. And THATS the truth!"
