Attached to the Denali Bluffs Hotel, I hesitated to eat there because of a bad Yelp score. This is one time the Yelp score was wrong. While not really a 5 star, it definitely proved itself as a 4.5 on a couple of recent visits (I can't help that Yelp doesn't trust reviewers with half-stars). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Keeping with the Denali fueled theme, it is essentially a log cabin restaurant. High ceilings and a nice-sized bar welcome visitors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Also welcoming were each of the employees we encountered. Smiles and kind words were a consistent part of our dining experiences. It doesn't have a huge menu; however, there is no reason for someone to not find something to their liking. While somewhat pricey, it wasn't out-of-line with other places in this tourist driven community. Personally, I had some of the best barbecued ribs I ever had. A great smoke ring was evident on the fall-off-the-bone ribs. A house made cup of sauce, everything potato salad and coleslaw accompanied this huge rack ($38). One of my dining partners had a chicken sandwich with waffle fries. They enjoyed it. On our second visit, I had a bowl of the seafood chowder ($15) and an order of chicken wings ($22). Both were served at appropriate temperature and were satisfying. The chowder was filled with fish, vegetables and clams. My dining partner enjoyed their wagyu burger and waffle fries. A cast iron prepared chocolate chip cookie topped with ice cream was a great finish. One of our other dining partners was not happy with the quality of their fish dinner but wasn't so unsatisfied to address it with our waiter. We also had drinks from the bar. While expensive ($14-16), they were well made drinks. Our waiter came back several times to check on whether people wanted more drinks. The only issue I had with anything related to the restaurant was the lame reviews that resulted in their low overall score. read more

We were reluctant to eat here because we are staying at the hotel and the rooms and cleanliness aren't so great. Ultimately, since restaurant choices weren't great in the area and it was raining we wanted to stay on grounds. What a pleasant surprise. We sat at the bar. The bartender is a delight, entertaining and welcoming. [[HIGHLIGHT]]An excellent singer, guitarist was playing great music.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was terrific. we started with a salmon chowder and a berry salad. both were so good, filling and large that we canceled the entree, which would have been just too much food. We did split a dessert which was also quite good. There as an excellent selection of Alaskan beers on tap. We stopped in after a long day looking for a bite to eat. This restaurant is within the Denali Bluffs Hotel. Service was fast and friendly. I had a cheeseburger with waffle fries. The cheeseburger came with pepper cheese, brioche bun, pickles, tomato and onion. The burger was cooked perfectly but the tomato was not ripe and the pickles were of poor quality. (This was a $16 burger, at that price it should be awesome.) the fries were just ok. My SO has a Cesar salad with smoked salmon. It was small and the smoked salmon was very salty. So salty that she couldn't finish it - It was $19. Sorry but for the price we were underwhelmed. read more

Food : Fish and chips - felt like they were straight out of the freezer aisle, did not come with the coleslaw or side sauce as stated in menu. Out of fries so it came with tots without informing of the substitution. Asked for a lemon wedge, never came. Chili - Very good! Did not have the avocado lime crema, felt that the bowl was small. NOOOOOO! This is possibly the worst place in town. If you somehow manage to end up here DO NOT get any type of fish. I know you're in Alaska and you want fish but this is not the place to get it. Get a ride on the shuttle at the half hour mark and ride it into town. The waitress was rude from the jump and would disappear for long periods of time. When the food was brought out we ordered another drink that ended up needing to be ordered from the bar after 10-15 minutes of waiting. The fish in the fish and chips and fish tacos were frozen gas station quality. The only redeeming quality was the salmon. Somehow it seemed to be relatively fresh. Still overall terrible. read more

The Mountaineer is an on-site restaurant for the Denali Bluffs Lodge so naturally we ate there several times over our short stay there. They offered a full breakfast buffet in the morning that had the usual variety of food that was tasty and satisfied our hunger; it does get busy at certain times as when everyone is trying to eat quickly and catch their bus tour so plan your meal times to avoid the rush if possible. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of our orders because we were usually too hungry and I forgot. But they did have a variety of choices for just about anyone's taste. Later in the day they have a menu with various sandwiches, salads, and entrees available. Everything we ordered was good and filling. The staff was friendly and helpful with seating, especially when it was busy, and answered any of our questions about the menu and the area. Pricing may be a little high if you were surrounded by dozens of restaurants and fast food joints-but we weren't so I thought prices were reasonable. Plus I've never eaten at a McDonald's or Burger King with this kind of view. And their bus would take you to some of the nearby places to eat if you asked. read more

Ouch...save your $$. This place needs some drastic help. Like one of those TV shows that come give a makeover and reignite the chefs. We came for the breakfast buffet, it is your only option, they won't cook you from a menu. $28 per person gets you breakfast items boiled in a bag, precooked from Sysco and set out in warming tins, like at a hotel with no kitchen, but this place is a full on restaurant building. Service was not with a smile or anything but a disregard for being at work they obviously hate. Sausage Patties look like they were stolen off sausage McMuffin from McDonald's. Bacon was the precooked stuff you see in a box out in the aisle near the meat section at grocery store. Scrambled eggs were same, poured from a bag. Brought family to Denali park for a once in a lifetime visit, and this was the same, that was the only time in my life I'll go this place! Do your self a favor and walk to gas station, grab a pre wrapped breakfast sandwich from the warmer and you'll be happier with the price and quality of the food. read more

Amazing few and incredible service! We had cocktails and some appetizers and they were good enough to make us come back.

If I could give 0 stars I would have. The poor experience started with arrival. We stood waiting to be greeted at the hostess stand for almost 10 minutes. There was a 15 minute wait so we decided to wait at the bar and have a drink. I am 38, my wife is 32. She got carded and I did not. There were other people at the bar in disbelief too. I was humiliated. It is very hard reaching 40 and this act made me feel even worse. So I canceled my drink order and just waited to be seated. Our server got seated a 19 top no more than 5 minutes before we got seated. The Tables that were sat after us had gotten drinks and ordered their meals before we even got greeted. In fact, we never got greeted. After 10 more minutes of waiting, we decided to leave. We are with a tour group, so we don't have a vehicle and our options are limited and didn't get to have supper. This was a humiliating and frustrating experience and I highly recommend not putting yourself through it. read more

Breakfast was excellent! They offer a buffet but because I am a food-a-holic I try to avoid buffets like the plague. We ordered an egg white omelet with fruit. We wanted some protein but they only had pork options (subtract a star). The servers were attentive and personable and came from around the globe. The servers offered a nice plate of pastries which included scones, muffins, and other pastries. All were fresh, moist and tasty (according to my husband, I am trying to cut back on carbs!). The restaurant is attached to a resort but I will review that separately. Our food arrived quickly and just as we ordered. The omelet were light and fluffy with just the right amount of veggies to egg to cheese ratio (spinach, peppers, onions with provolone cheese). I highly recommend this place if you are visiting the park. read more

Breakfast was buffet and pretty decent as hotel breakfast buffets go. It was complimentary as a hotel guest but would not have been worth the $28 listed price. Service was very good. Dinner was terrible. There was a bartender but no servers. No one tells you that you need to read the menu & order at the bar. After we sat for 10 minutes, another guest finally told us that no one comes to the table. Very limited menu options & it wasn't very good. Maybe it's because we were there at the end of the season but that didn't get us a room discount. At the very least, it should be explained at check-in. read more

The 5 of us have been at the Denali Bluffs hotel and have eaten two dinners and a buffet breakfast at The Mountaineer Grill. The breakfast was typical fare but our dinners were excellent! We shared the brisket platter, a dinner salad, crab cakes & their version of a BLT. Delicious. None of us were expecting anything great and all enjoyed our choices. The crab cakes were terrific and actually filled with lots of crab....shock! I personally don't care for sweet potato fries, so was very surprised how crisp, tender & flavorful they were. read more

We're staying at the Denali Bluffs Hotel--which is completely serviceable as a base for experiencing Denali. The food in the restaurant was fuel, nothing more, nothing less. I ordered the salmon which came with my choice of a couple of sides. I chose corn and cole slaw. Everything was edible, but since I'm in A.L.A.S.K.A., I would have expected the salmon to be better than what I could get in STL. My family members ordered the fish n chips. I think the cooking oil was not so fresh, as the chips and the fish were really browned and heavy tasting. That was a bummer----again, in Alaska, the fish should be a no brainer. We chose this on site restaurant because my 80 year old mother in law needed something close after a long day of travel. I'm glad she picked up the tab--I woulda been irritated to pay the cost of the meal. read more

We don't usually do hotel restaurant. There is a $6.00 burrito breakfast down the street, but this is quite the restaurant. We opted to give it a try. Buffet is $20, but breakfast with eggs, bacon, fruit or potato, and toast is $16 and it come with binoculars and a view. Disappointing dinner- we started off well- the special was French onion soup- I ordered that, expecting a traditional type of soup- Gruyere cheese on top full of onion goodness- what I got was a thin broth with a few onions in it and an aftertaste that reminded me of instant soup. The Mac n' cheese was awful, american cheese maybe? Then after we finished dinner we were left waiting an hour for the check- even after requesting it- we were tired after a long day with small kids and it was just the topper to a not great meal. The beef brisket was good as was the broccolini. The Caesar salad was good too. The "summer corn" tasted like heated canned corn, would not recommend it. The server was very pleasant and tried hard to be helpful but the timing of our meal was pretty odd- we got the appetizers right away, the main entree took awhile then it took a literal hour for our check after clearing plates. I suspect that our server got overwhelmed by other tables and there didn't seem to be anyone else pitching in to help her out with us. I think this shows poor management and not a reflection of the server. We came at 5:30 and didn't leave until nearly 8- not by choice- honestly, it seemed a simple choice after the all day train ride and our rooms being there but I would recommend for others to walk down the hill and try one of the other restaurants within walking distance- the pioneer pizza place or overlook are close by. read more

Was on a family trip with the six of us from our extended family. 2 in our 20s, the rest middle aged. Crab melt: absolutely delicious. Great crust on the bread, tasty melty cheese, perfectly tangy spicy heapin helping of crab. Free cornbread muffins with honey butter, yum! Also got brocolini, nice and green and not overlooked or buttery. Family was very pleased with the pork shank, shrimp, and brisket. In-house sauces taste great and not your typical ketchup. Portions are generous, most of us shared. Atmosphere is warm, clean and inviting. Rustic theme. Fun oldies music playing. Servers extremely friendly and polite, going out of their way to give us separate checks and deal with our sharing requests even though the sharers were not sitting near each other. All in all, this was a great find in Denali! read more

We ordered the BBQ sample platter and my daughter had the Mac and Cheese. The Mac and Cheese was delicious according to my daughter. As far as the BBQ platter - save your money!
