On July 21st Moreno tree service, hired by the son of my former next door neighbor who passed and left the house to him, came to do some pruning and cleanup of a 4x25' patch of dirt between our houses. I was asked by the son beforehand what, if anything, I would like removed from this patch of ground. I pointed out a grubby little camelia, but that was it. Then I pointed to my ancient rhodedendron, 30' tall and 18" at the base which bloomed masses of lavendar flowers every spring, which was 3' from my house, which I had cared for and loved for 21 years, the queen of my front yard, and said "Don't touch this! Not one leaf, OK?" The concensus was, well duh, who would cut or remove that. Oh, of course! he said. Moreno came real early and kind of stormed the place like Russia sprinting for Kyiv. They were making so much noise in the back yard that I had to go have a look. Wow, these guys are really going at it, I thought. Then I heard a huge din from the front yard and went to see what they were up to out there. I looked out my front window to see a 1" stump where my precious, invaluable, irreplacable rhodedendron had stood for probably 15 years before we moved in in 2001. Picture me running up and down the sidewalk at 8:30 a.m. screaming "F*** ME! F*** me!" over and over. Supposedly the neighbor's son had told them only to cut stuff on their side of the strip, but Moreno's goons, these meatballs, just razed everything. They had also already cut down another little tree that had grown close by. But the rhodedendron was clearly our roof tree. The neighbor hadn't shown up to supervise these lunkheads, so they just gave it all the blade. Moreno, they're Philistines. Nobody on the crew had any English, and later in the morning a young member of their crew gave me a sadistic little smile in passing. I you want to give your yard the look of a Brazilian wax these are your guys. But if discretion and a brain are important in a gardener or landscaper, don't call Moreno. I have sobbed and raged all weekend over this and only today have I come back to myself enough to review these stupid, idiot goobers and hopefully save someone else heartache. F*** me. read more

Against my better judgement we went with the low bid. All in all the work was a success, but if you expect a five-star job, you should be prepared to pay for a five-star job. Here are some things to consider: - Overall tree removal cleanup was good, but they left some lunch trash on our property - They cut back our shrubbery to access the backyard, but should have asked first. - Communication is impossible. None of the crew could speak or understand English. If you have questions or concerns, you will have to rely on mime and charades.
