Found this bakery through Instagram as it popped up on my feed! Stopped in on a Sunday morning around 9:45 and did not have to wait, food was served hot, super friendly staff and such a warm and cozy atmosphere. All of our food was delicious and baked goods were fantastic. Came back on a Saturday morning with limited wait and got our food to go. Everything is full of flavor and so delicious. I have gotten the Claudia twice now and love the flavor combo. The servings are large and well with the cost! I lived in Atlanta and have been to some higher end cafes and bakeries that serve similar quality and those cafes cost more. I was excited to try Morningstar because I love coffee shops and cafes but I was disappointed. It was a bit crowded inside although I don't blame them, but the worst bit was the pastries. It was a nice vibe inside. Th chocolate croissants (I got 3) were all underbaked and under filled. Same as the blueberry muffin, and the apricot pastry (forgot what it was) was just bread with a teaspoon of apricot on top. The best of the pastries was the orange cinnamon roll. read more

To start the pistachio croissant was very good, a little heavy but taste and texture right on. The ginger peach scone was ok. Now let's get to the service, I found it slow, there are plenty of employees, but just a single line for service, so you have 5 people in line looking at 10 different choices being described by 1 employee. Coffee service is a joke, after you wait for the pastries you next have to order your coffee, it's a pour over and a whole process that's just not necessary and timely. After you order there is no service station for you to add items, sweetener? Nope, half and half? Nope. Why? "We don't have half and half, or sweetener, we can do honey or sugar" The cost 2 pastries, 2 coffees and I think a 25% tip, about 35 dollars. Oh and they don't accept cash. read more

Came here off recommendation. The owners husband gave us the low down. Order the pastries at the counter and then you go to the register. If you want a breakfast or lunch item you go to the register and order. You pay then they give you a number. Find a seat and they bring you the food. The pastries look amazing! And the line of people prove the taste. This place was hopping! We ordered a sandwich that had 2 kinds of ham, French butter on a French baguette. The other sandwich was the chicken salad on a croissant. The chicken salad comes with a couscous salad. OK the food was delicious! So good! We split everything and were full at the end. Too full to indulge in a pastry. I'd eat here again in a minute the food was really fresh and good. The place is cute. Lots of seating outside and inside. Comfy chairs and traditional tables. Patio too. Prices aren't cheap. Our lunch was about $25. Pastry's are $3 and up. A Dubai pastry was $9.50. So they aren't cheap. Really good. But not cheap. This might be a 1x a month place. Almost forgot. Drinks are limited. Coffee and a few teas. Some matcha drinks and spritzers but nothing like a plain ice tea or a coke or anything like that. I ended up with water. Not a big coffee drinker and the tea and other options weren't appealing to me. Nice recommendation! Really good food. Fresh good ingredients and healthy crowd enjoying. Let me just start by saying, the aesthetic is immaculate! The decor, the vibes, the branding - all on point. The space has a variety of seating options inside, as well as seating outside. It is seat yourself, so when it's busy you may have to scout for a table. We went Saturday morning and of course there was a line. We waited for 30-40 minutes probably? You order everything at the bakery counter. Much to my surprise, they also had breakfast & lunch menu options aside from the pastries. Once you order, they will bring your cooked food out to you. We decided to dine in, but got our pastries to go. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the food came out - based off how long we waited in line I thought it was going to be longer. The sandwich I got was great and had great flavor between the verde and jam. I was also pleasantly surprised by the side of fruit! A nice touch. Be aware, they may be sold out of certain items by the time you get there! A good problem to have as a business! For the pastries I got the chocolate croissant and the pecan cinnamon roll. I didn't eat them until the next day - so perhaps that changed the experience a little for me. My only note is that the glaze on the cinnamon roll was too sticky - even after I warmed it up. Morning Star just opened last friday and the line is already out the door- and for a good reason. These pastries are to die for!!!! I got an egg chorizo puff pastry, a pecan roll, and a vanilla latte. I loved my puff pastry the best, since I'm always searching for savory breakfast pastries, I was so excited to try this! The coffee menu is simple but really thoughtful, from pourovers to a gorgeous green espresso machine. And the syrups are made in-house, which is always my #1 non-negotiable when it comes to what makes a coffee shop great. My iced latte was a bit more watered down than I usually prefer, but they're brand new and still finding their groove, so I'm not mad about it at all. I can't wait to go back and try the honey lavender syrup next time. Every single detail of this space is so beautiful, so thoughtful- I feel like I'm inside of an architectural digest magazine. This place was incredible. Fresh baked goods, wholesome ingredients, creative flavor profiles. We got a cinnamon roll, blueberry coffee cake, and bacon egg focaccia to try items from the bakery. The pour over coffee was delicious and had the cutest presentation. And we also got avocado toast and their signature sandwich. Everything was mind blowing. Morning Star features my favorite Onyx Lab coffee, scratch made baked goods, and delicious small plates! We made sure to come after the breakfast rush and before the lunch rush as they are so busy with just opening! Upon entering you first put in your pastry order while perusing the wide range of options. The staff is really good about making sure the case is constantly being refilled. Then at the register you can order your coffee and breakfast/lunch options. They give you a table number and bring your order out when ready. There are lots of cute seating options inside, we chose to sit on the patio since it was such a nice day. We waited about 20 min for our lunch entrees but everything is made fresh to order so it was worth it! Every bite and sip was absolute perfection! We will definitely be back! A little on the pricy side but when it is this good I am willing to spend more! Plenty of parking available in the lot! So excited to check this place out finally! The owners' backstory is great and I had heard good things, plus I live in the area so even better :) My husband and I arrived on a Friday morning just before 11am (perfect timing, because they stop serving breakfast at 11!) and got in line to order. The line was a little long but it moved very quickly...they've got a nice system down. Not a huge variety of coffee drinks/syrups - we went with a pour over and a cardamom latte. The pastries all looked amazing...it was hard to choose but I went with the cherry almond spandauer and I have zero regrets. For the breakfast menu, my husband ordered the egg biscuit and I got the Morning Star toast (sans feta). The toast was delicious and had a good amount of avocado. I was hesitant about the "perfect egg" but it was great as well! The biscuit was pretty crumbly and didn't stay together well as a sandwich, but the flavor was good. The cherry spandauer was delicious and unique...I would absolutely get that again. My cardamom latte was good but expensive ($8 with my choice of oat milk) and the pour over was a little weak for our taste. Service was incredibly friendly though and we enjoyed our experience. I was pretty excited about going here but it didn't live up to the hype. Everything was just good for the price it should be amazing. I also think you should be able to have sugar or some sweetener for your coffee. For 40 dollars I got a breakfast sandwich and pastry cappuccino and cold brew coffee. My friend told me about this place so we met for coffee on a Wednesday morning. Word on the street was this place got so much hype for its grand opening they had to close for a few days because they had run out of supplies, underestimating the volume! Not bad, huh?! Essentially I felt greeted as I waited in line, 830a not too bad of a wait and heard the greeter is the owner. He has a cool story and an appreciation of that bakers and the workflow of it all. The Pastries are made from scratch and in front of those waiting in line as well. A visual experience. I got a salted chocolate chip cookie, which was dense and reminds me of my favorite cookie from Brassica around the Van Aiken area. Also got a canelé, a French pastry that I cannot pronounce and tried for the first time from here. Two pastries was not enough! I got an iced latte, half sweet with honey lavender syrup. This was good, but I think the place will be known for its pastries more than its coffee. Once the hype stabilizes, this could be a good place for remote work or lounging and reading. read more

Where to begin... Morning Star Cafe is a place you walk away from feeling happy. I visited here for the first time with my significant other this morning and decided to write a review. Let's talk about the food... We had a really simple breakfast--two pastries and a coffee. I enjoyed a scrumptious vanilla bean custard pastry while my wife was treated to a well-spiced cardamom baked good. We sampled each other's items and I can say both were fantastic. My custard pastry was soft, but not too soft. There was enough custard, but not too much. It was sweet, but not overly so. Delicate, but confident like a good pastry should be. My wife's had a slight bit of spice to it, but it was balanced in flavor and fluffy. Honestly, I would order the exact same thing again and be happy, but I won't. There are too many other delicious-looking things to try! For example, while we were waiting in line (and there was a line!), the workers in the back were preparing sweet (carrot cake) and savory (caprese pastries with homemade pesto, tomatoes, and a balsamic drizzle) things for me to sample on future visits. Today there were macarons, caneles, flourless cakes, croissants, coffee cakes, etc. The owner--who was very personable and incredibly nice when I spoke to him--told me that each day there are new items and new flavors. The food options felt open, but not erratic. I saw breakfast sandwiches on tables, as well as other pastries and, of course, coffees and teas. As far as drinks go, the options were somewhat limited, but correct. I'm not coming here and expecting a Mocha Snickers® Hazelnut Blended Frappuccino. All the coffees as far as I could see were pour-overs. Africa and Central America are represented well! I chose an Ethiopian pour-over and it was perfectly brewed. There are loose leaf tea options, as well as matcha options. Personally, I can see how some people might feel a bit impatient waiting for a pour-over versus having something brewed and ready to dispense into a paper cup via an airpot carafe. But, trust me: it's worth it. Take the extra minute. And really, this idea of taking the extra time to enjoy something leads me to the final thing I wanted to cover in this review: the experience. It's honestly hard to describe what I felt. I've traveled to other countries and in those places--especially in Europe--the expectation isn't that you'll grab your coffee and go. Rather, it's that you'll sit for a moment and enjoy your croissant and latte in full view of the Eiffel Tower, or amidst a crowded square in Italy. Somehow, in little Bath, Ohio, Morning Star offers that same feeling. There is a thoughtfulness in all the details. The booths were tall and their texture soft and comfortable. The plates were triangular and oblong--definitely Nordic and whimsical to these American eyes. The artwork and walls were colorful and inviting. The space was open and felt lively, but the noise wasn't overpowering. I was able to sit down on a Thursday morning before work and have a conversation with my wife about everything and nothing. It's weird to write a review of a restaurant and call out the texture of a cushion, but honestly all these little bits and pieces of the experience combine together and seem to say, "Take a second and savor a moment in your life. Enjoy this day." It's not Paris. It's not Rome. It's not Copenhagen. It's also not perfect. I can forgive the imperfections because it's so new--I'll happily be back. It seems like a place you want to bring a friend to and chat over a croissant. Or, stop by during lunch to read the news and enjoy a jambon beurre (which I will be trying next time!). If you're trying to decide if you should go, just go. You'll enjoy it. And, I'm sure you'll be back. read more

What an amazing place, we came on their 3rd day open. We came around 0845 and their was a line 15 people deep which is awesome to see. It didn't disappoint, as the pastries were delicious. We tried a variety, chorizo & cheese puff, ham & Swiss croissant, caprese puff, and a croissant. I tried three items from here. It was a Saturday morning and i took a toad trip. I was looking for something new. It was fairly busy so I purchased my items and sat down to enjoy them. I got a pistachio and raspberry scone, and piece of coffee cakes and what i think was a strawberry cream croissant. Also a vanilla latte to wash it down. (Note I'm not in any way bad mouthing the owner and his wife. It's an idea he has long visioned to bring to life) however. The pistachio and raspberry scone was large and dry. I know they said that they are traveled overseas tasting patisseries and I'm wondering if they're going for a more European biscuit type scone than a cream scone, which is more tender and less dry. There were no pistachios on it. I did not care for it. Next, I got the coffee cake when you make a coffee cake that big it takes forever to bake so again it turns out dry due to the extended baking tomes, lastly I got the strawberry cream croissant, which looked very pretty. I believe they were fraise de bois on top; the dough itself, unproofed, and heavy. I would like to have seen some custard on the inside with the chantilly cream on top, but it just fell short but had potential. It was an odd set up with the pastry station right being the front counter and I noticed that most of the girls working were slow due to watching the customers come in. Very distracting. This was my first time here and I will give it another shot but after they are open a bit longer. I wish them well. This again, this is one persons constructive criticism. The food is very good and the actual restaurant is beautiful! The one negative is that they tend to run out of food/pastries by the afternoon. Especially on weekends. Don't bother going after 1pm because they have already run out of some of their lunch meals and they don't even start selling that til 11am. This is my second time at the morning star. Went the 2nd day of opening and asked for an iced honey latte. First off, they don't have decaf espresso. I've never heard of a coffee shop that doesn't have decaf espresso beans. A disappointment as I and many other coffee drinkers don't want caffeine. The iced honey latte was very watered down and did not taste good. It was their second day, so they maybe were still learning the process. The second time I came here, three weeks after opening i got a cookie which was over cooked but was good, cream puff that had no flavor and a lemon Macron that was really good and tasty, but was the iced honey latte better after three weeks? No, it tasted like watered down coffee milk and I didn't even finish it. If you're finding somewhere that has good coffee this is not the place. First off, the decor and layout of your place is stunning! Very European Countryside vibe! Reminds me of a few places I've been in England. The problem in my opinion is with such a small menu offering, and the fact that you are basically a bakery, and "we"are always in the community looking for unique places to come and have breakfast/brunch, serving your very few breakfast items until 11 AM In my opinion should be extended throughout the day. It gives people a little bit more variety to choose from and I think down the road you will find if you don't offer this you will not make as much money as you could, if you don't offer breakfast until at least 1 if not 2 pm. Coming from someone who had a family member in a very successful restaurant business for over 40 years please just think about this and consider if you want to increase your profits- You really need to extend your breakfast time. read more
