The morning times was a weekly if not daily staple in my life for 10+ years, after moving away from the city 3 years ago, every time I would come into Raleigh it would be my first stop and it would always feel like home seeing the same familiar faces every time. This morning, I walked in and saw not one familiar face there, and I've come to learn all the staff walked out simultaneously weeks ago. After getting to know many of the staff over the years of frequenting there, anything to make every staff member walk out at the same time has to be big enough to leave a sour taste in your mouth. Am truly sad to see such a Raleigh staple not see the value in the community their staff created. This downtown Raleigh stop really came through when I was craving a breakfast sandwich!!! LOL. The staff was very friendly. Service was prompt. It's a small space but there's plenty of outdoor seating (and I believe there is additional indoor seating next door). Loved my bacon, egg, and cheese croissant! Added a nice fruit salad too. Morning Times is one of my favorite stops near the bus station--perfect whether you're heading out of town or just starting your day. Their grab-and-go breakfast burritos are consistently fresh, filling, and flavorful, and the coffee is exactly what you want in the morning: smooth, rich, and dependable. And the scones? Truly some of the best I've had this side of the pond--tender, just the right amount of sweetness, and always a treat with a hot cup of coffee. I also love the seating options. Breakfast, lunch sandwiches and a limited kid menu was available. Too cramped and not much room inside so sat on the tables outdoors. Morning Times is a very hip, cool coffee shop right in the middle of Downtown Raleigh. This is what I would term a "New York style" coffee shop. They have outdoor seating, some small counters seating on the first floor inside, but what really makes them special is a huge upstairs area with loads of tables, cool art, "unfinished walls"...a real loft style communal room. It's a great place to chill with friends or have a meetup. Coffee is always good and very well prepared. They have breakfast sandos and small lunch bites. And the staff is always awesome!! TLDR: Maybe the coffee and pastries are the stars of this show but this is not the place for well-seasoned breakfast food, especially if you're hungry. However, the staff members are nice and efficient when you only need something small and quick. The rest of the story: The place is very small and there are only 4 high chairs inside at the window. There is outdoor seating along the sidewalk so bring your jacket during cooler months and eat quickly or your food will get cold. Despite the line we encountered, the service was fast and friendly. The girl at the counter patiently waited for me to make my decisions and took my order but informed me they didn't do many substitutions. We ordered the grits bowl, an omelette and the spicy chicken biscuit and went to take our seats outside. The table marker with, Uno cards, they gave us was so light I had to hold it in my hands to keep the light breeze from blowing it off the table. After a short wait, our food arrived in stages. The bowl of grits was small with a sprinkles of cheese and raw green onions on top. It was otherwise unseasoned. The omelette was also unseasoned, and the spinach and onions inside were undercooked and difficult to cut with the plastic cutlery we were provided. The Nashville chicken biscuit was not spicy at all. It relied completely on the sauce that was put on top for any amount of heat. read more

Pros: The bec bagel was served hot and fresh. It was hot to the touch--which was unexpected. It had three full strips of bacon (not cut in half strips). The eggs were fresh, and the cheese was good. The bagel was of good quality--I didn't realize they also offer some other seasoned bagels (like an everything bagel). The coffee is Counter Culture--a local roaster out of Durham NC. You can get free refills on coffee, and I did get refilled. The coffee was good and piping hot. They have half and half and sugar to use--don't know about their non-dairy as I didn't need it or ask about it. The sidewalk seating is nice and spacious and wasn't over-populated on an early Sunday morning. Only me and two-three other patrons were using their outdoor seating. Overall--I'll come back and try more--and will patronize more as long as the panhandling and smoking isn't ongoing--see my "cons" below. Price was about $12.50 for a bec and coffee--not too bad imo. Cons: two male patrons were sitting together at Morning Times outdoor tables while one was smoking a cigarette, and there is a painted, permanent writing saying "no smoking" on the table where I sat outside. I'm assuming it's written on all the tables outdoors that are part of Morning Times seating--including the one where they were sitting. Another woman (one table down from the two guys) was also holding a cigarette in her mouth but oddly not smoking it. I had to move as far down from them to avoid the cigarette smoke. One other patron brought a barking dog to sit outside (no big deal to me--for others maybe so). It did bark at people passing by his table. One other issue I had was aggressive panhandlers. I was approached by two different people asking for money. A third guy just wanted to ask me for the time. The first panhandler just wanted a dollar. The second woman who was panhandling proceeded to ask me while I was talking on my phone--fortunately, she got the hint and walked off when I didn't acknowledge her rude interruption although she obnoxiously lingered for a while. The bus station is right around the corner, so there is an ongoing influx of bus riders who walk to this sidewalk where I was sitting. In order to avert being asked for money by (some of) them I pretended to talk on my phone which did deter most of them. That would be my biggest of my two gripes with this location--smoking in a designated and marked no smoking area, and being panhandled multiple times by bus riders (and, yes, I know they're off the bus because they come in waves of time as the busses arrive and drop them off). Their book bags and travel bags kinda make them stand out as bus riders. I sat there for more than an hour to take it all in and get a vibe for what to expect from this place and location. read more

Funky and fun coffee shop in Raleigh! Very unique atmosphere. The service is friendly with a genuine smile. I got the traditional machiato. They did not burn the milk and the Espresso was pulled with perfection! Breakfast item I got was a croissant and little bit of jelly. When you enter this coffee shop, it is a tight squeeze. I've ordered twice now from The Morning Times via DoorDash, and loved it! I've only tried two menu items but loved it enough to order it twice in one week. The breakfast burrito is one of the best I've had around here! Huge, stuffed with eggs, beans, cheese, jalapeños. I skip the jalapeños and beans (never sure how hot the peppers may be), but always add avocado and chicken. It's so yummy! I love the tater tots too, but wish they were a LITTLE less crispy. This place is a chill coffee shop right off of the street. Small on the inside but the seating outside was very cozy. Had a delicious breakfast after arriving in Raleigh. When you first walk in, the location is a little deceiving because it looks small with only a window counter seating, but the real seating is upstairs. It's a large room with lots of tables and plenty of seating. The staff on the first floor was welcoming and friendly. The breakfast was YUM, my favorite were all the scones I had all the flavors available that day. I also got to try the soup of the day which was available at breakfast time. I've ordered the breakfast hoagie, a croissant, and the breakfast burrito within two separate orders. The breakfast sandwiches are probably the most bland food I've ever eaten anywhere. I thought it had to be a mistake. The first time I ordered, so I went ahead and ordered from there one more time, this time obviously a different sandwich and it was worse. Morning Times is located in the heart of Downtown Raleigh on Hargett Street, right near Marbles. There is street parking as well as many decks and pay-lots within a short walking distance. Please keep in mind that since this is downtown, there will probably be parking restrictions as well as a cost to park depending on the day and space you choose. A couple friend's and I met here one morning to grab breakfast, catch-up, and read/journal. We planned to be downtown so I parked in a lot that had full day parking and walked a bit which was fine. When you enter the building, you can order your drink or food. This place is small, but I love that about it because it's quaint and has a lot of character. The menu has a variety of breakfast and lunch options, as well as some desserts and drink options. They even have some adult beverages if that's something you are interested in. This was my first visit so I wasn't sure what to get, but the staff was great, helpful, and extremely patient. I ended up ordering Morning Sandwich on Bagel Everything Bagel with Turkey Sausage. It was DELICIOUS! The bagels are made fresh on site daily. It was filling and was a great price, especially for the quality and size of the bagel. Then I headed up the stairs to meet my friends who I was hanging out for the day. Up the stairs there's a sitting area with quite a few tables and arm chairs. It's great to catch up with friends, work with headphones on for the day, read, or just have a relaxing/chill place to go. After we ate, read for a bit, and got caught up, my friends and I walked around downtown and visited some of the museums. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to return. read more

I have to say this was one of the best cold brews I've had, it was smooth and not burnt tasting at all. The barista suggested the maple cinnamon flavoring, that was a top notch recommendation! I love vanilla lattes and wasn't sure what to expect, but the sesame tasted nice and subtle in my opinion. There was nothing really binding the filling in the omelet so everything was just loose. I also got an iced latte which was okay. It was pretty milk heavy so you couldn't really taste the coffee. I asked for a cold brew with lavender syrup and unfortunately they were out of the lavender syrup so I just has a cold brew but it was still good. Banana muffin was great.
