Came here on a whim while in town. Conveniently located in a small shopping center, there was plenty of parking. Upon entry the store - it felt like a cozy spot to have a bite to eat and a cup of coffee with a friend or to study. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Each time was made fresh and quickly. During my visit there weren't a lot of people - so I am not sure how service speed would be on an extremely busy day. I ordered a build it your self sandwich that came out to about $10. The cost of food and the quality - I felt it was worth the pricing. Nice environment where customers are allowed to linger - saw people grading papers, having a team meeting, or just reading. So that's very nice! Food just ok. I've been going to New World since before they moved from their old location over at Pleasant Valley. The food and drinks are still good quality, albeit have gone up a bit in price. It's still a good spot to meet up and grab a coffee or a bite to eat. My biggest issue is that it feels so sterile and "modern." Modern isn't necessarily a bad thing but it's just very clean and "diner-esque." I don't know how else to put it but the old location was cozier. It was the type of cafe where you could feel comfortable getting lost in a book, or studying for extended periods of time. I'm sure some people would be fine doing the same here, but for me it's lost some of its comfort and charm. I think one thing that could help is putting up some local art or adding more varied comfortable seating options. Just my two cents! Otherwise as I mentioned, the quality has remained the same and the service is still good! I still recommend going, I guess I'm just nostalgic for the vibes it used to have. read more

Bright spot (think it used to be Steak and Shake) in the parking lot of a shopping center. You order at the counter. I was trying to order from a section of the menu which I guess could be a sandwich or a platter. The difference wasn't clearly stated, nor were prices. I asked the cashier and she basically said the platter just didn't include bread. I didn't want to hold the line up so didn't ask many questions. Since I'm gluten free I just went with scrambled eggs with cheddar and some turkey sausage. Not sure if pricing was pure item or what, but the price was reasonable. Food sucked, prices are insanely high, the manager guy running the register was a total clueless jerk. I ordered avocado toast with an egg on it for like $10 (one single slice of bread for $10 btw) it comes out to the table and I can't even see the toast underneath what looks like 2 entire avocados just slapped on top of an untoasted slice of sourdough, I try to take a bite to see if it's good, but I literally am just eating avocado and nothing else. Absolutely disgusting. I go up to the desk and ask for a refund, he says "we don't do refunds, but I can remake it for you?" I say no because at this point I don't want to eat another avocado for a week. I also say there's just too much avocado on it, and rather than apologizing or offering a real solution, he tells me to scrape off the avocado. I work hard every single day to earn the money I make, and I expect to spend it on things that are worth it. Maybe you could fix your pricing if you decided to not waste about 3 avocados per "toast" slice. This place is garbage. I had to come to Raleigh for an appointment at Duke and wanted to try out a local spot for lunch. This place is tucked in a small strip mall with plenty of parking out front. Inside there are a few tables up front near the register and in the back near the restroom are a few couches and larger tables. On this Tuesday afternoon there were a few people on their laptops and a few others who stopped in for lunch. There was one unisex restroom in the back that was well kept. I stayed for a few hours to read, sip, eat, and just kill time before my appointment. It was the perfect little space for this. The staff were very friendly and helped me pick out a sandwich and side , offering to change a few ingredients while I decided between a few options. I ordered the Turkey sandwich with bacon aioli and was very happy with the size (it was huge and flavorful) and the potato salad side (dilly, but delicious). I also ordered a cold chai latte with lavender sweetener. It was crisp and just the right amount of milk, chai, and lavender. This is our favorite coffee shop. They are coffee snobs in a good way, and their food menu has expanded to where they've got a decent number of options, and it's really good. Ouch, I really hate leaving two-star reviews but I have to be honest. I was excited to try New World Cafe since I just relocated and I saw it that it was nearby me on Yelp. Since there were so many positive reviews, I decided to check them out but frankly I was very disappointed. I ordered my lunch online and opted for curbside pick up. The ordering and picking up went smoothly and weren't the issue. My main issue was with the food. It was disappointing to pay over $11 and $12 for two sandwiches that were as small and sad as these were. I ordered the Return of the Turkey, Swiss & Avocado which has turkey, swiss cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato and pesto on sourdough with potato salad. My boyfriend ordered the Fight Club which has turkey, ham, maple bacon spread, lettuce, tomato and provolone cheese on a croissant with bagged kettle chips. To start, the Fight Club didn't even have ham on it! The sandwiches were pathetically small... only 1-2 small slices of tomato and the 3 tiniest pieces of avocado were on my sandwich. Definitely not worth the price, in my opinion. Besides our mediocre meals, I ordered and iced Heath Mocha which was just ok. It was around $6.00 for a 20 oz which is reasonable but I don't know if I would order this again. Overall, I am not impressed but may be willing to give them a second chance sometime in the future and I will update my review as soon as I do. Meh! read more

Great place for a fresh, tasty breakfast and coffee! I ordered takeout on a Sunday morning. I paid for it ahead of time so it was quick and easy to pick up. The cafe is small with adequate room to sit and do work. It is noisy so to me I would not choose to study or do work here, but I would meet a group or stop in for breakfast. This recent visit I ordered an açaí smoothie, protein bowl, mocha, turkey sausage/egg/cheese breakfast sandwich, and a PB&J bagel. They have various breakfast, lunch, and beverage options to choose from and customizable breakfast sandwiches. I especially enjoyed the protein bowl. Prices and portions are reasonable. This is a great coffee shop to get some work done! Plenty of seating and pretty quiet. They have a solid selection of coffees and loose leaf teas. While I was there, they made quite a few pour overs, seems to be a specialty of theirs. I opted in for a black tea, it's all loose leave, and they serve it to you in this great stainless steel press. It literally keeps the tea warm for an hour if not longer. I love getting a lot of tea, but usually it goes cold before I can drink it. Not here! They have thought of that, and have those great presses that solve the problem. It's almost $4 for tea, but you get a solid three cups. They had a limited but tasty looking selection of baked treats. They also have quite a few breakfast sandwich options. I went for bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant. It was okay, the egg was way too rubbery. I understand they don't have a griddle and probably make the egg in the microwave, but due to this it turned an unappetizing green color, and wasn't a great texture. First of all, this might only be the second time I've ever gotten on line to complain about a business. Employees have off days. Because this involved the owner and terrible customer service, I feel the need to write a review. I had never been here before and had coffee with a coworker here this morning. Then, after picking up from a doctor's appt, I remembered I saw a drive through so went to swing by to get her a drink and myself a sandwich rather than going to a big box coffee chain. I pulled in the drive through but it had a printed paper saying you have to order online (there is no link so I had to google New World Cafe and it came up with a website to order). I tried to click on the box multiple times and if finally worked, I input my order and paid at 12:25. It said it would be ready at 12:40. I went inside just to wait there and leave my daughter in the car at 12:30. 10 min prior to the order estimated time. They didn't have my name and I told her I was early but she checked and realized I had ordered at another location in Durham. (I didn't even know there were two locations and at the top is showed current location. Admittedly I was moving fast to order in the parking lot and didn't hyperanalyze the order confirmation). She didn't know how to solve the problem and just kind of shrugged (but she said it was her second day so I'll give her grace). So I called the Durham location and they said this has happened before and they can transfer the order but had to call a manager or someone and then would call the Raleigh location. Then it seemed like nothing was happening and the owner (of both locations) called the manger at the Raleigh location to tell her that she could only make me a sandwich and I'd have to reorder and pay for a new coffee. I was shocked. They had been on the phone for at least a min and a half but when I asked her why and how that could be, she just kind of shrugged and said "that's what he said". She didn't seem super customer facing or problem solving. I asked her to call him back. He didn't answer. At this point it was 12:40 and I felt like this was taking forever and it was ridiculous and nobody at the Raleigh location seemed to really care so I decided to just leave and get my daughter home. I called back to the Durham location and asked to have the owner call me. He called me and basically said it was not his problem that I ordered at the wrong place and he wasn't willing to absorb the cost of 1 cup of coffee since I should have noticed it was ordered at the wrong place but he wasn't willing to have them remake my coffee at the correct location because they had made my coffee already in Durham. This is so short sighted. If it was different owners or even a remotely expensive item I would have understood but seriously to be so dogmatic about it and when 1. I'm clearly not the only person who this happened to so it's easy to do and 2.the online ordering system is glitchy and it didn't pull my location and/or give me drop down options. He argued with me (as he looked at his laptop) that it's easy to see but when you are on your phone and trying to order, it's a big blue box and I just thought I had to click within the box to order). For someone new at that business who didn't even know there were two locations I would think being in the parking lot would cue the website to the correct location and 3. the cost of helping get the customer the drink is a little espresso and milk is cheap. It was so short sighted. I would NEVER support this business again because of how poorly this was handled. Part of being in a customer facing industry you'll have to absorb costs for mistakes that happen all the time but this owner is not customer service oriented. I would think a local place would have better service than a big box chain but not so much. Their system would have known the right location and they would have likely been happy to make me a drink and sandwhich even if I did order it at the wrong place. read more

Went here with my boyfriend and puppy for the first time and was greeted with the friendliest staff and atmosphere. I asked them to put blueberries on the side for my puppy and the wrote the cutest message on it, just an extra step to show kindness. Food was great, a little on the pricey side but can't complain with the portion sizes. Will be returning for sure! read more

I do not recommended this restaurant, me and my friend got there and it took 30 minutes for us to get our food. After we got it, it was soggy and melted, meaning that it was sitting in the back for days, AND the granola disgusting horrible mess. If looking for somewhere with a good vibe good food and good drinks, good service (that has food come to you in under 10 minutes, and people who are genuinely nice and remember your face when you come in second time). Go to Nora cafe on Strickland, 100 times better. The only good thing about this place was the person at the register, when I was given the wrong order, the guy acted like it was my fault. Normally I don't type things like this, but I felt a need to. I also saw a review complaining about how they don't do online orders, the owner responding saying Panera and Starbucks don't either, but they do, they literally have apps for you to order online! Anyway, drinks and food unnecessarily expensive, and it's not even good. 15 dollars for an açaí bowl that was melted is ridiculous, I can make one better than that. My experience wasn't perfect, but there's lots more good to say about them than bad. In fact, I'm just gonna get the bad out of the way - for some reason after I placed my simple "Shakerato" order of shaken iced espresso, two other people got their orders before the barista had even started mine: one a sandwich and chino; the other a sweet treat and coffee. I'm sensitive to b.s. like that. But...as an independent coffee joint, it rocks all the normal abnormalities: couch in the rear with zero back support, mismatched chairs to and fro, garage band music from speakers in high corners, etc. But New World is also doing its own things, however strange. For one thing, if the place catches fire, just keep relaxing because the 10 overhead sprinklers will sustain your unburnt cool. Plus, there's the random box or flock of plastic crates against walls all willy nilly. The clientelle is wonderfully mixed. As I sit here in the packed house, vertebrae after vertebrae cracking at this couch's lack of lumbar love, two Japanese guys enjoy sandwiches together, a group of older folks are Negan-ing a huge table for themselves and a bevy of different colors fill the seats. It warms my bleeding heart, tree-hugging, lives-mattering, pro union, Liberal coffee snob sensibilities. Diversity is king in all walks of life. But how is the product? Well, I've never been one for hyperbole, but I'm freakin' loving this drink. It's iced espresso, which I've had before, thank you. But it must be the shaking and/or the blend, because this is a fine coffee drinking experience. The foamy head combined with the body's dark richness are making for one happy Yankee. I'd get another but this is a triple and if I wanted to feel like I was blitzed on cocaine, I'd just run to the ATM and call Pretty Rickey to meet me at the park behind the tennis courts. ... ... ...
