Good coffee and warm atmosphere. Interior is very small but well designed with a blend of modern, traditional and artistic touches (refer you to the bowler hat light fixtures!). We had a flight of coffees [macchiato, espresso, cortado, and americano]. Americano was cold : ( Espresso was very strong which I really like but may not be for everyone. The owner is rude, the turnover rates speaks to that. There'a always knew baristas there. I'm assuming after a few weeks of being talked down to, they find emolument where respect resides. Over the years I've popped in and out, showing grace because it's a local business and owned by a minority woman/Asian. I've witnessed and received horrible customer service, several times. Once she overcharged me and my friend, I showed her the error on both receipts and you'd think that I was at fault, for finding HER error. She was nasty and unapologetic. Another time, I order a s'mores latte and there were large chunks of something thick floating in the cup. I called and again, met with rude, accusatory responses. Later I found out that the barista who was NEW, put a half of Graham in the latte, it became soggy and broke apart....and that's not the recipe. Today I visited and my friend and I walked in, approached the counter. We weren't greeted at all and stood at the counter waking a good 2-3 minutes. After about 3 minutes another couple walks in, stands behind us. The owner greets them and literally talks around us as if we are invisible, takes their order and starts making their coffee, while carrying on a very pleasant conversation with them. I couldn't believe it.....she's clearly got an issue with not only Black customers, but any customer who speaks to her about a bad experience or product. Not mention, she treats the unhoused people in our community as if they're trash. Find a coffee shop that shares your values and values your dollar! Never....going there....AGAIN. Very nice spot at the corner of Moore Square. Stopped here on a whim for an afternoon pick-me-up. Nice staff, quick service. The 42 Spice latte was just what I needed. I'll be back to try one of their fall specials. read more

3.5 I never pass up a chance to get a lavender latte so I got one iced. It was okay. There was a subtle hint of lavender and the rest tasted a lot more like milk than coffee. What I liked more was the ambiance. It's a relatively small space with a lot of people coming in and out but I stayed a little bit to work. There are tables and high tops and the Wi-Fi was pretty strong. They also had outlets where I was sitting so it was great to just get some work done while I was waiting for a conference to start. read more

This place was okay. It was near empty when I got there. I ordered the coffee flight with the espresso, nitro coffee brew and cortado; none were honestly that good, and both the hot and cold drinks were lukewarm/room temperature. While it boasts a sleek modern ambiance and welcoming staff, the biggest draw can be summed up in two words: coffee flights. With options including nitro cold brews, draft lattes, and more, this is a great way to sample a bit of everything and still get your caffeine fix. They are my wife's go-to order while I usually opt for one of the seasonal drinks. The orange creamsicle I tried during our most recent visit isn't something I would repeat, but I do credit them for trying out a variety of syrups and flavors. This is still my to-go spot for a nice cup of coffee or tea in downtown Raleigh. Seasonal menu always has something new, it's definitely my favorite part. Had a hard time finding 42 and Lawrence but was pleasantly surprised once inside! Interior is modern and harsh looking with minimal seating, doesn't have the warm, cozy coffee shop vibe I usually seek which is why I docked one star. Also had free WiFi. Service was great, drinks were brought to our table and they even warmed up the cinnamon roll we ordered. Most importantly, the drinks and cinnamon roll were great! Americano was bold and flavorful. Seasonal autumn breeze latte had notes of gingerbread and cinnamon. Yummy coffee shop in Raleigh!! I got their iced latte which had three shots of espresso with two pumps of caramel. It was ~4.75, which seemed like a pretty reasonable price to me. I am so glad I made the trek here! I ordered their Chai iced latte, and it was one of the best i've ever had. The staff is super friendly, and it's also a pretty nice to study if you can find a spot because seating is very limited. This is going to be a pretty short review, but I spent around 4 hours here and I was very productive. It's brightly lit, and there is a lot of table space to spread out your things. Cortado is half espresso and half warm milk. I like these way better than lattes or cappucino. It was delicious. Rich and full of good flavor. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but I enjoy visiting 42 & Lawrence because it's super pretty inside and they do offer non-coffee drinks for people like me. I stopped by to get some hot cocoa on a freakishly cold, windy day. It was a perfect pick-me-up to warm my hands and soul up. You can also add some whipped cream on your cocoa if you'd like to :) Because it's so delicious, I finished it within less than 10 minutes of getting it. I love 42 & Lawrence. It is small with limited seating but the coffee is good and it's downtown for those that like the city. You do have to pay for parking close by, which is a downside but an enjoyable spot to post up for a while. The workers were friendly and seemed to care about all that walked down the street. read more

Lovely local organic coffee house... despite it's confusing name. It is at the intersection of Blount and Martin. They stay open until 7pm generally changing to an evening wine bar. I have only been there during the day. Great coffee and tea options, and Kombucha as well. Owner Christine is new to area and has newly purchased business about ~6 months ago. First and foremost she is about customer service. She has a loyal following for quality food, drink and service. Example of customer service: Being of Indian decent, I asked of she can doctor the Chai to a more authentic flavor than all the rest of the shops with the super sweet syrup in milk. She made a concerted effort and now I order it instead. Definitely worth a visit and also for a hang with friends. Decor has an industrial Parisian Cafe chic-ness to it, with a series of floating Rene Magritte hats. So cute! Enjoy!!! read more

Larry Larson opened his first coffee shop, Paradigm in 1994, one of the first in the Triangle. He later sold it to focus on the roasting operation that would become Larry's Coffee. A founding member of Coop Coffees in 1998, Larry was on a mission to find the best beans in the world and experiment with roasting to bring out the nuances from each region. She has such a wonderful personality and knows her ice cream. I was one of the first to enjoy her Gluten free Coffee ice cream with chopped up chocolate-covered espresso beans throughout. Then George took the cup of this delicious ice cream and torched it for a brulee finish. Amazing, indescribable, and I will be back for more soon kind of flavors! I have since checked out her flavor options and kick myself for not visiting her shop soon over at Iron Works. It is so close to where we live in downtown Raleigh. No more excuses. We are heading there this weekend for a Valentine's Day treat of one of her many boutique flavors. We decided to get ice cream in waffle cone since we couldn't get the milkshakes. I got the Cookies N Cream in a waffle cone My wife got the Cotton Candy in a waffle cone. The cookies N Cream was good but, the waffle cone was not. The waffle cones are the "softer" ones, i was expecting the classic crunchy waffle cone. I just ate the ice cream with a spoon out of the cone. The cotton candy was not good. It tasted like sugar free ice cream. Same thing with the waffle cone as I previously wrote. The service was great! The ambiance was nice. Not sure if we would go back, our favorite ice cream shop is in Durham and I would prefer to drive 30Min to that place. I would rate Andia's ice cream shop 5th in the Raleigh/Durham area for ice cream. *I would say give it a try I may love it.

There was only one girl working in the front and she looked like she wanted to be anywhere but there. Really brought the excitement of trying this place down. I think this place is pretty average but there's room for improvement.

Panysaurus over all is a very cool place (either location) but they have drastically different vibes - which in my book is a good thing. The Raleigh location has a smaller footprint and doesn't have the same outdoor patio vibe. The dinning area is a bit small but turn around is quick and there is plenty of space to stand and socialize if you're just there for the beer. I really love Ponysaurus beer, their pilsner is nice but their kolsch is my favorite. The Raleigh location menu has lots to choose from, we had a margarita pizza with pepperoni, hummus and wings. I can't recall what was in the hummus but we practically licked the bowl and the wings were a big hit too - note the Durham menu is a bit scaled down but one thing that's consistent with both locations is the amount of pita that came with the hummus. There is nothing worse than getting a huge bowl of hummus and only a few pieces of hummus or chips. Both locations knocked it out of the park - plenty of WARM pita for everyone. Service was great, we did't wait long and the tables were turned over quickly. They use a mobile app for ordering food which makes ordering fast and efficient and the food is delivered to your table - which I must note came out very fast.

Parking can be a bit challenging as you'll either need to find street parking or in a open lot near by. The restaurant itself is located in a historic building that once was a funeral home and also was also a tax practice in a different chapter. The restaurant feels very upscale but there isn't a strict dress code. The kitchen is open as well if yo prefer to sit along the kitchen and watch the chefs cook. When you order you'll have to place everything at the same time but they'll pace it out to your table. For drinks, I ordered the In Gold Blood (Bourbon, amaro, Fino sherry, banana, golden raisin) and the head in the clouds (Vodka, Falernum, strawberry, pistachio). Both drinks were excellent and extremely easy to drink. You'll definitely want to start with the sourdough bread, NC Oysters (Roasted NC oysters, chili butter, preserved lemon gremolata), and fried NC shrimp (Fried NC shrimp, buried garlic aioli, pickled green tomatoes). All of the appetizers were excellent in their own way. The bread and butter just complemented each other so well, the oysters were well balanced and almost seared where they weren't chargrilled but partially still raw, and the fried nc shrimp has a nice contrast of flavor with the pickled green tomatoes and fried shrimp. For the entree we split the Prime-aged Delmonico (ribeye; and was served in a red wine jus, and topped with sea salt and peppercorn). The steak fell apart as you bit into it. For sides, we ordered the crispy potatoes (Crispy potatoes, Italian chili crisp, piquillo peppers) and Brussel sprouts (Embered Brussels sprouts, apples, lardon vinaigrette, almonds). The steak and potatoes were definitely my favorite. The Brussel sprouts were good but a bit on the salad side where they were still a little hard. For dessert, we ordered the cheesecake (Basque cheesecake, strawberry compote, olive oil shortbread) and the Sticky Toffee Pudding (Sticky toffee pudding, embered vanilla ice cream, benne seed brittle). The sticky toffee pudding was so warm and was excellent. The cheesecake also had a nice balance of flavor and the strawberry compote combination worked perfectly. This is by far one of my favorite meals I've had in Raleigh and you definitely need to go here if you are in the area.

Then when it said the wait time was 15-20 min, I decided to abandon the online order and order at the counter. There were about 3 employees busy at work and no customers. I was greeted upon arrival and helped right away. I ordered one cookie and the order came to over $9 before tip. I questioned the total and the employee returned to fix it. I like how you can easily see and pay on the screen so I could see the error. When fixed the total was about $5. Pricy for one cookie, but they do look pretty and are packaged well so they make a great gift. The rotating weekly menu is exciting, but the cookies are not very flavorful so they taste similar. Even the guava cookie had a very faint fruity flavor and mainly tasted like sugar. Many times I have noticed that the unique flavors are just in the frosting not the cookie itself. I understand having a weekly changing menu is challenging, but there is room for improvement on their flavors. The cookies are all perfectly baked and decorated beautifully. Overall, good place for the occasional treat or gift.

Came here recently for some beer and karaoke, and we had a good time!…read more I was happy to see that there was a pretty large, dedicated lot for the brewery, so it was easy to find parking. We started the night off by grabbing a couple of drinks, and they actually just recently starting serving cocktails, which was a big plus for my wife. Of course, they also had a bunch of different beers on draft, which was more my speed. After getting our drinks, we wandered into the next room and were delighted to see a ping pong table waiting for us :) They also had cornhole and a big TV showing the Hurricanes game. There wasn't a huge crowd for the karaoke, but the host was cool and the song selection was pretty large. I was also happy that the karaoke started at an earlier hour (7 PM) than most places. Starting karaoke at 10 PM is kind of brutal when you have kids :) One random aside is that the water fountain near the bathrooms was extremely powerful, so it was honestly a little hard to use. That sounds kind of ridiculous, but it was seriously firing halfway across the room. Overall, we'd definitely come back!
