And cheep! My first thought upon walking in to the house was that this would be the perfect place to bring a large family for a week's holiday together. The only thing that wasn't prefect was weak Wi-Fi in the fabulous North (turret) bedroom, a problem which the host said she will fix. I look forward to staying here again.

Vince, the owner of the inn, kindly offered to supply turn-by-turn instructions for rides he had taken himself. We built our six-day trip around those routes and incorporated two overnight stays at Edgemont. Karen, the manager, shuttled our bags between Edgemont and other inns so we could ride unencumbered. She also organized a marvelous lasagne dinner for us. Karen cooked eggs, sausages, and bacon for breakfast. Every morsel was delicious. We enjoyed the dining and sitting rooms, and best of all was our big beautiful bedroom with a bay window overlooking cow pastures. A great destination for cyclists!

A couple of warnings: you are staying in a house that was built over a hundred years ago. All things considered, it's in great shape, but as of now, the exterior drastically needs a paint job. The Victorian nature of the house makes it look a little like the Psycho house. Don't give up, just go inside! However, once you are inside, you are in heaven. Karen is the nicest person you could imagine hosting a B&B. She was very excited to be sold out for a special event at the Star Trek tour. The place looks great inside (see my photos). We stayed in the Rose Room. The room was huge, with a very good bed. The bathroom is large as well. We loved everything about it, except for two small things. The jacuzzi tub does not have a shower. I did not notice this when reserving the room. Of course, a bath is fine. The only other complaint I have is that the wifi did not work in our room. It's a very big house, so I was not completely surprised. Our cell phones worked fine (Verizon). Wifi worked fine in the living room, which is also a very comfortable area. There is a flat-screen TV with Hulu in the living area (which happens to have the Star Trek episodes...). There are very large lawn areas outside the house, which would be perfect for events like wedding. I saved the best for last. The breakfasts are amazing. All home-made. In four days I put on three pounds! With my wife being vegan, we are used to getting no choice for breakfast, but she gave multiple vegan options every day we were there. KAren is really sweet and tries very hard to make everyone happy!

The winter nights in their house were cozy and comfortable - we had everything we needed. I think my favorite part of staying there was visiting with Gary and Zelia for an hour (or two?) the night we arrived. It was so interesting to learn about how their lives led them to Middlebury. The eggs florentine for breakfast the next morning stands out as my favorite meal. Kind of makes me wish our son hadn't graduated yet.

They are gracious hosts--providing hospitality in a thoughtful and charming way. They are knowledgeable about the local area (and many other topics), AND they cook a gorgeous, locally-sourced breakfast. They even made special egg-free dishes and cookies for me. What a treat! The Cornwall Orchards grounds are well-worth exploring especially if you like gardening, ecology, and permaculture practices. The house itself brims over with history and books--it's delightful. I could really feel the care that went into making this place a special retreat. Thank you both so much for going above and beyond for us. Our trip to explore the Middlebury area wouldn't have been nearly as well-rounded and insightful if it weren't for you. Hubs also bought the local gift box that's offered on their website, it came with crackers, apple butter, the best smelling incense, honey, and spices. I loved it.
