I have been going to Werner Animal Hospital for over thirty years now. Started with Dr. Werner Sr. and since his retirement, have been seeing Dr. Werner Jr. and his wife. We travel over 1/2 an hour to bring my two dogs and my kids 3 dogs. The doctors are efficient and knowledgeable and always explain options. They refer to specialists if necessary. The staff is kind and very compassionate in all circumstances. Prices are competitive. On my third set of dogs over the years and have always felt they care about the animal first. I cannot recommend them enough! read more

The original Dr. Werner retired. He was absolutely amazing and saved one of my cats lives once. The son is ok for routine visits or small ailments. They are conservative with pricing and let you pick from tests that are suggested. However, when you see severe weight loss or something wrong, I do think as an owner you should pay for every test. At the end of the day, it's your animal and those things are needed to diagnose and possibly extend or save a life. They should push more because something missed early will cost you. My other opinion about this place is that they should be sending pets to specialists when it is something they can't figure out. In my case, I think adding tests and sending to a specialist would have saved my cat's life. Unfortunately I'm going to another vet in Warren. I'm actually driving 30 minutes more because the knowledge and experience was better. read more

We have been very happy with Werner Animal Hospital. Dr T Werner has followed our dog since his adoption. While our husky has a recurring respiratory issue, Dr. w. Always takes the time to discuss the treatment plan, the rationale behind it and options. It is a busy office but I've always found the support staff to be patient, courteous and attentive. I hesitate to highly recommend only because I don't want to share such a gem!! read more

My wife and I have enjoyed taking care of our 4 Golden Retrievers over a 30 year plus timespan. One of the most important things we feel as a pet owner was to give them the best chance to live a long, healthy and happy life. Our first Golden came to us in 1994 and that is when we began with the Werner Animal Hospital experience. The staff has changed in the people but the tradition of the Werner family care lives on and moves forward. We started with Dr. Ken Werner the father of the practice in 1994 and continue with the new members from his family, Dr. Tim Werner, Dr. Shannon Werner and Dr. Nate Clark. In our minds, these people are the top of the line medical professionals. Their knowledge, skill and experience show up in every single event whether it is wellness care or illness care. Further, they are caring for both the patients and us, the owners/parents. When a patient comes in, they are always making them feel comfortable and ease their stress. They are never too busy no matter how hectic their days are taking care of everyone in their practice. Also, their staff assistants, the admin people and the medical technicians are all part of the successful Werner Animal Hospital Service. They make every visit an excellent experience. Let me come for a visit and leave without essential vaccine boosters and related necessities for my dog-- no mention or reminder at the visit whatsoever. Also do not recall receiving any other reminder, such as an e-mail or postcard. Then could not give me an appointment for those necessities for a month. Front desk said that the visit was not a wellness visit, so... apparently that's how it goes. I assume this is because they want to charge for 2 visitis, but who knows. Does not seem right, in view of the lack of visit availability. When I indicated that I intended to use another vet going forward because I was getting treated like "a bum", the lady at the front desk got offended and snidely responded that she can send the records anywhere I like. So much for being a ten+ year valued patron. Have to agree with others that the place was better before Dr. Brown left and Dr. Werner Sr. passed it on. read more

Unfortunately we had an emergency with one of our cats and requested to be seen as soon as possible. When Dr. Clark heard that my cat had been attacked by another cat, he had us bring him in on his lunch hour. He took the time to listen to his symptoms, and brought him into the office, he then came out to explain what he saw and what had to be done. Following the visit he returned to our car to give post-op instructions and follow-up information. It's very hard to just hand over your wounded pet at the door, but they eased our stress by being so caring and explaining at every step. Our pets have been patients here for many years and I couldn't be more grateful that they are in such capable hands. Thank you to Dr. Werner, Dr. Clark and your entire incredible staff. If I could give them more that 5 stars I would. When we rescued our first dog in 2001 we found Werner Animal Hospital and they were SO great from day one. Our first dog, Kandi (a Black Lab/Rottie mix) had numerous issues including a knee surgery when she was 4 and in December when we had to put her to sleep Dr. Clark was so great and really helped us through the whole thing. It was the first time I ever had to deal with this and as hard as it was Dr. Clark gave us his time and he helped us get through it like it was his dog. We're on rescue dogs 3 and 4 (a funky Australian Cattle Dog/Corgi mix and a Bluetick/Treeing Walker Coonhound mix) and I wouldn't bring them anywhere other than Werner Animal Hospital. Doctors Werner, Brown, and Clark are great with ALL of the animals they see and sometimes, almost as importantly, with the owners that bring their pets in for care. read more

I've waited a month to write this review. Hoping time would quell my anger, it has not. We have been taking our dogs to Werner for 20+ years. We always saw Dr. Brown, we were very confident in him. Dr. Werner Sr was also a very competent vet. About 5 years ago, Dr. Brown moved away and recently, Dr. Werner Sr. Retired. On Dec 4, we took Bella in because she was not eating normally. They said she had pancreatitis and some anomaly with her stomach. The truth was, she had lymphoma in her stomach and no pancreatitis. They treated her for the pancreatitis that she did not have for 2 weeks while the cancer spread. After 2 weeks with no improvement and now not eating at all, we called Werner, but they could not see her because they were closing early for a holiday party. Note: if that's the case and someone's dog is dying, maybe you should not tell them you're having a party. They sent us to Newton VH where she was, again mis-diagnosed with a mass on her spleen for $1700. A chest xray was clear but they recommended a full abdominal ultrasound, but they could not do it for weeks. Werner also could not do it for weeks. Enter Red Bank VH, they did the ultrasound on Dec 23, it showed a mass in liver and thickening of the stomach wall. On Dec 31, she had an ultrasound with needle biopsy at Red Bank VH that showed lymphoma in her stomach, lungs, liver, bladder and most likely her brain. RIP Bella. If Werner had properly diagnosed the lymphoma in her stomach on Dec 4, she would be alive today. The first ultrasound was done on an outpatient basis, the results went to Werner, they never called with the results. They sent a condolences card 3 weeks after she passed. When we went to RBVH for the ultrasound, we call Werner to get her medical records. They said they would send them, but we called RBVH on the day she had the ultrasound and they had not sent them. They called Werner again and asked for the records. On our way to RBVH, we called and Werner had still not sent them, we called Werner a 3rd time and they finally sent the records. We had an appt today for Gunner with our new vet and again, it took a week and 3 calls to get his records. I'm not sure what happened at Werner when Sr retired, but the attitude of the staff has changed writ large, for the worse. read more

I've been a client here for over 30 years. I came by Ken by way of trying to find a vet over the weekend with an emergency for my mothers dog. She was not a current client and Dr Werner called back to help us. I was taken a back at the kindness and compassion. In today's world where it is more difficult to find committed and professional people Dr. Werner and his staff still practices this daily with the utmost concern and welfare for a family's pet. We've had 9 pets vetted here over the years and we have moved to another area in NJ that makes my commute to the office over 40 minutes each way but this relationship for my pets is as important as my Dr is for me. read more

Lack of interest/ Lack of knowledge MISDIAGNOSED My dog went in to be evaluated. He was tested for lyme and treated. Never did the Dr. make me feel his life was in danger they gave extra fluids do to a fever of 106. I asked if he should stay overnight and I was told No they wouldn't have night watch . ran tests and I had to call at 1:00 for the results of lyme. Went back to pick up meds and not once did I get a call to see how he was on Fri morning my dog still not moving and not eating make me concerned. Yet again and she gave me no suggestions just that it takes time for the meds to work. My dog died on Sunday am. Not necessary for an animal to suffer like this I still have not heard from them. Excellent vet service! We first found them because the facility could handle greyhounds (special anesthesia - most vets refer out for this breed) and Dr. Clark had experience with them. We then brought ALL our dogs and cats there. Kind, compassionate, reasonably priced and they treat you and your pet like family - especially in difficult times. They never rush you , answer any questions (I even got a call back at 9PM from a vet when my cat was sick), have weekend or evening hours, will take you same day in an emergency - they love animals and it shows. The best part is they are honest with your treatment options and often have told me what they would do if it was their pet that was sick. I really appreciate that kind of honesty, especially presented with 3 different options and having NO IDEA which one is best. After rescuing a tiny, abandoned kitten, I wanted to find the right vet. I was looking for the perfect combination of reasonable prices and attentive care - I found that in Werner Animal Hospital! The veterinarians are amazing! Kind, informative and caring. The receptionists are friendly and helpful. My kitten Starbuck is a bit of a special needs case - her eyes were infected shut when we rescued her and eventually Dr. Werner was able to help us find out that she has micropthalmia. He was sure that she would have no problems and a normal kitty life even with the condition, and thus far, he's been right! For over 13 years I have taken my dogs to Werner Animal Hospital in Morris Plains. For years they provided good services for typical everyday vetting, shots, worms. However, when it comes to proactive, preventative care for senior dogs I am not comfortable, nor do I agree with their approach. I don't believe they are proactive in recommendations and options for advanced testing. In fact, I had to suggest we schedule the detailed exams and tests for our 13 year old dog Asia. It was from those tests we uncovered she had some serious medical issues. Following the loss of Asia, who in my opinion and following research on her conditions, if we had identified and treated her issues sooner we would have had a much better chance of extending her life. Directly following that experience, our other senior dog was mis-diagnosed of a lump on his leg, and when we took him to another vet, it was confirmed he had a cancerous tumor. I understand its not a perfect world when it comes to health care for animals and humans, especially seniors. But my decision was based on the above experience and my husband and I have found another vet that shares our views on our dog's care. In the past year, my other senior dog has been under the care of another vet, and the frequency of the monitoring and testing is night and day compared to what was provided to our Asia under the care of Werner Animal Hospital. The new vet said that his treatment is standard care for all senior dogs. My husband and I have always been pro-active with our dog's health and were always willing to invest in their preventative care. I am sure you are like me, my pets are my family, so I would not recommend Werner Animal Hospital. read more

My experience with Werner Animal Hospital today was AMAZING! After spending last night in a different emergency veterinary center I left without any answers and my highest vet bill to date. I refused to go back there when my dog did not improve and decided to see if Werner Animal Hospital could give me a second option since my bulldog was still refusing to eat, drink, and was incredibly lethargic. I am new to the Morris Plains area and did not have a vet established so I was struggling to find someone willing to see my pup. Despite being booked solid the lovely staff at Werner Animal Hospital squeezed us in and were able to see my dog quickly. Dr. Lynch was personable, caring, and let me know what my options were. She took the time to explain things to me and was patient with me as I asked several questions. Never once did she try to guilt me or sway me to do anything, which has been my experience with many other vets in the past. She gave me her recommendations and proposed a plan that did not require expensive or unnecessary tests. In fact, she urged me to try her plan of action first to see if my dog would improve BEFORE ordering expensive tests that might not give me any of the answers we needed to ensure my pup would get better. Vet visits will always be pricey, however I can say with certainty that Werner Animal Hospital has FAIR pricing and they work to provide you with options within your budget in a no pressure kind of environment.
