Came in very tired and pooping blood. Been in the waiting area for an hour and half. No sense of urgency here. Try another hospital.

Debbie M. was very kind and helpful in directing me to the Outpatient Testing Center. As I arrived at the Patient Registration/Waiting Area I was greeted with a smile from a very kind and helpful Alex Arrioga. Alex registered me for the Electromyography Test. At this time Sue an EMG Tech took me to the room where she explained the procedure to me in a calm, compassionate, and clear manner. Sue responded to me in such a sweet and truly caring manner as to make me feel very much relaxed as she performed the 1st part of the test. Dr. Bassel Kazkaz was kind and professional and performed the 2nd part of the test. My most sincere thanks to you all. Steven S.

After blood testing and imaging showed nothing heart related , the doctor thought I should stay overnight for a stress test. They put me in an observation room on the first floor near the ER. The first thing I noticed was a toilet right out in the open. Not even a curtain around the toilet. No bathroom, no sink with mirror, no shower. Basically just the exposed toilet, a bed, a trash can and a utility sink with a used cup and straw sitting there. There also was a large window, about 4' x 4' with no blinds or covering. If anyone walked past outside that window they could see everything in the room. When I went for a CT I was left in a cold hallway with several other people for about 30 minutes before I got the test. When I got back to the room I told the nurse there was no way I could stay in a room that offered no privacy and stripped me of my dignity. He told me that I didn't have a choice. I told him that I wasn't staying and to remove the IV port from my arm and get me the paperwork to sign myself out. Horrible experience. I've been to their emergency room twice and both times have left me feeling traumatized. You couldn't pay me to go back there.

I walked around calling out hello for about 5 minutes and finally I saw a worker who had her headphones in, when I told her about the situation her jaw dropped (like seriously pick your jaw up off the floor and help) then I went back out to my car to wait for a nurse with a wheelchair and someone please tell me why he asked me to help put my significant other into the wheelchair like sir I came here for YOUR help. Once we finally get to a room and get settled they take some test at this point it's a little before 6 am and they hardly give us any information about how long any of the tests are going to take after two and a half hours of waiting and not even being checked on I step out of the assigned room and there had been an entire shift change with no communication with any of the patients. Me and my significant other were under the impression they forgot about us which I'm pretty sure they did because as soon as I asked where the test results were a nurse said she would be in in a few minutes. So if you're looking for an ER that actually cares about their patients I don't recommend Northwesternern in Sandwich

Emergency Care (and some Follow-up Care) -…read more NOTE: I have a lot of Good Things to say about CDH ("Central Dupage Hospital", they seem to call it!), and a few Bad Things to say, as well. In the final equation, the "goods" outweigh the "bad", and leave me with 5 stars. My Health Issues are my own, and not the Hospital's. I have taken this into account. I will also reference comments made by other Reviewers... and I will not judge your own opinions, but only the comments others made. Let's acknowledge - right up front - that Hospitals are ALWAYS understaffed. After all, who in their right mind would want to deal with people like me, or are writing negative reviews on Yelp, whining and bitching about their Entitlements? And do this for an entire Career of 12 - 14 hour shifts? Not me, bucko. I went to CDH ER after visiting the Warrenville Urgent Care Facility, for a *severe* nosebleed. As I near the end of my Tenure on this miserable planet (whose Joys are compounded by His Awesome Puissant Orangeness and its Clown Car Administration), I've seen a lot of things - but NEVER a nosebleed like this. Think of a fast-dripping faucet, just shy of a constant stream. It literally scared me. My Bride and I worked at home for 10 hours trying to stop it, and could not. So, we climbed in the truck. Warrenville Urgent Care took a look, and recommended we go to CDH ER. We walked into the ER. Warrenville had obviously called ahead - the nice ladies at Reception saw us, and motioned me toward a waiting gurney and Nurse. There was zero wait time. Fast-forward 4 hours of serious effort by the doctors and nurses and a couple of what they call "Rhino Rockets" stuffed up my snout, and we had it quenched. We agreed that the Probable Cause was "Eliquis", a blood thinner recently prescribed to me to combat another Health Issue as I crawl toward the grave. A blood vessel had ruptured in my schnozzle. But there was also a collateral concern - I had lost so much blood during those 14 hours (circa 2 liters, we "bevnap estimated"), that the Doctors wanted to monitor me awhile. My Hemoglobin level was 7.1. So they admitted me, with my agreement. The ER Experience? Check, check, and check. No issues, professional, courteous, and caring. Up to the Second Floor, Cardiac. In Cardiac, the Doctors, Nurses, and Assistants came in and introduced themselves. I spent the next 4 days there, and reflecting on the experience, I have very few complaints. I'll list 'em below if I have room, or in a follow-up post. But overall, they took very good care of me. The Cardiac Experience? Check, check, and check. No issues, professional, courteous, and caring. I'd like to personally thank Nurses Josh and Isabella, who looked out for me over several lonely night shifts - I was insomniac, and if I slept for the next three days, I really can't remember it. But, hey: this is a review of the ER, so let me tangentially address some of the Yelp comments I saw: * "The problem with most ERs is under staffing." - Yes, indeed. That's called economics. Nearing the end of my life, I can't say I've ever found a solution, except to stand up for yourself where needed, and don't make a fuss if the issue is triaged-out. * "They know how to spend on remodeling" - Yes, indeed. I would also venture the opinion that *this is the best-looking Hospital I've ever seen" *. And, why should they not work to make their Facility as attractive as they can? Construction workers are not Doctors, and there is a shortage of Doctors. * "No one came to check on me with any regularity." - Yes, entirely possible. That's why there's this widget attached to the bed with a "Call Button" on it. This comment suggests a 'passive approach' to one's own Health Care - waiting around for things to happen to you. Enable yourself. * "Ran test and wanted to run more." - Yes, indeed. Corrective process for sacs of meat (e.g. Humans) follows a procedure where you must wait and observe the outcome of the last action . * "They nickel and dime everything." - Yes, indeed. That is the current state of the American Medical "system". Vote to change it, sir. And, to punish the Orange. The Bad's? Well, I took a look at my own notes, and nothing was important-enough to bear mentioning. I'll call-out a few, just for drill: * Their signage (Facility-wide) is abysmal, and does not support a first time visitor. * There's a Valet available to help you park your ride after arrival. You'll never see him, due to the poor signage. Now I am approaching the end of my Character Count (as well as my Life!!), so let me stop here. But please keep in mind - these are people who have devoted their entire lives to helping people, undergoing the strictest training of which I'm aware, and working shifts that exceed what I would EVER consider putting up with myself. Can they make mistakes? Sure! But give them the grace to be human every now and then, and question them if you see an issue. Stick up for yourself. Peace.
