This is our favorite hotel to stay at when we visit Philly. Excellent location and awesome staff. They are so helpful and friendly, and will accommodate you in every way. The rooms are impeccably clean, beautifully decorated and comfortable. This landmark building dates back to 1787, and brings you back in time. In the evening, you can sit in front the parlor fireplace with freshly baked cookies and a hot beverage of your choice. This is truly a hidden gem that should not be missed.

When we arrived in the morning and dropped our bags off we were told they would call us and let us know when our room would be available. They basically suggested it would be ready at 3pm, which is checking-in time anyways. We never received a call and ended up checking in at 4:30pm. When we came back to check-in a women greeted us at the desk but joked that she wouldn't be able to check us in because she's the event planner not the person that checks us in. She asked us to sit in a room. Then the women that can check us in came back 5 minutes later and told us to get up and follow her. The point I'm trying to make here is that the rooms here are pricey and the staff are very young with a vernacular that's a little immature. I got this impression the entire time. It's 'cool' to have millennial slang with your friends but not really with your patrons. We were told there would be a 'European breakfast' available in the morning. I have been to Europe several times and their breakfasts consists of several varieties of cheeses, meats, & fresh fruit... this breakfast had stale bagels, one packaged cheese variety, and boxed yogurt. Their is a sign on the bathroom describing water usage and to be considerate of their old pipes. Basically the water pressure was non-existent and the water did not get very hot. At check-in we were given drink vouchers for the restaurant next door. When we went in at 7pm on a Friday night, we were the only ones there . Again, I'm unsure why this place has such high reviews with even higher prices. Unfortunately, I can not recommend this establishment.

Oh my goodness! Do yourself a favor and stay here if you're visiting Philadelphia! You're welcome... because you'll thank me later! What a B.E.A.utiful Hotel! Historic. Modern rooms. Classic entry and dining area. Such kind and thoughtful staff! You will be VERY pleased! I'm sure to visit again!

I had a pleasant stay here! Definitely different from those big hotels around. This is one of those places that's vintage and quaint all at once. Though I loved the location and how it was near major stuff and walking distance I docked this place a star because there was no fridge for room 301and outlets were far from the bed for charging my phone. Room was clean and housekeeping did a great job to keep it clean. Just remember if you plan to stay here there is no elevator and doors have actual keys which makes this place even cool due to it being historic. Would definitely come back!

We stayed at The Morris House which is a B&B place. We got there early in the morning just to drop off our bags so we could walk around. They are really close to the Historical District - Washington Square, Jewelry Row, Liberty Bell, Visitor Center, Independence Hall, etc. YELP Check-In get 10% off your Room. We used Travelocity I think so couldn't use both. FREE Afternoon cookies w/ coffee, tea, or water From 4-5pm if you show your Key you can get a glass of Wine - boo missed it cuz we didn't read the menu close enough! Godiva chocolates on the bed & 2 FREE water bottles FREE Breakfast in the morning is from 7am-10am. Mini quiches, banana bread, raspberry crumble, oj, tea, coffee, cereal, oranges, apples. Bed was comfortable. There were robes in the bathroom. Nice soaps, etc. Charge it!

Years ago, I mentioned that I always wanted to stay here. Well, my husband remembered this and booked a night here for us as an anniversary surprise. Score one for the hubs!! Our room oozed revolutionary charm. The hotel must have either painted or re-varnished...that type of odor was present when we entered the lobby and again in our room. We opened the window and it had dissipated by the time we got back from dinner. The hot water was a bit slow to heat up, as well. Neither of these things diminished my enjoyment, however. The hotel sent celebratory champagne to our room, they had afternoon coffee and cookies, complimentary wine with evening happy hour, continental breakfast with a nice array of options, comfy bed and pillows and the bartender at the M Restaurant was friendly and even let us sample a few interesting spirits. It was all capped off by the proximity to Independence Mall (which is amazing in the moonlight). Happy anniversary to me :o)

Please know that when I say that The Morris House in Philadelphia was one of the most enjoyable hotel experiences I've ever had, I say that with no hyperbole. The fam and I took a quick weekend jaunt up to Philadelphia this weekend and while looking for accommodations, I happened across information about The Morris House. It was a little bit more than my target price was for a place, but the photos on their website looked so inviting that we said what the heck and booked a room there anyway. Worth every penny! The second we arrived the concierge checked us in and took us on a little tour of the house. The Morris House is actually an old converted colonial style house (two actually), previously owned by Robert Morris and his ancestors. We were shown the sitting room, the dining room, the library, and the hot chocolate which was quite welcome as it was in the mid-40s outside. Next, we were taken across the courtyard and to our room. Up a couple of floors it was gorgeous. Of course the footprint was that of an old colonial living area, but everything within the room had been updated. Flat screen TVs, modern fixtures, and of course free wi-fi (which I promptly used to check in on Yelp). Location-wise The Morris Hotel is literally only a couple of blocks from all of the historical stuff in Philadelphia that you came to visit. We were out the door and at Independence Hall without about 30 minutes of our arrival. In addition to the historical attractions nearby, the area is full of an eclectic mix of restaurants. We tried three of them in short order. The hotel has its own, but with so much else to see we never got around to dining there. In addition, the hotel had a fantastic continental breakfast. I'm not talking about the cold boiled eggs, cheerios, and bagels that you might be used to at some chain hotel. They had something for everybody in my family. We were all quite satisfied and fortified this morning as we fueled up for a day of Philadelphia exploration. If there is any down side to the hotel it's that parking is a pain, but I will put that on being in a city that is over 300 years old, rather than on the hotel. There was zero on-street parking to be had so we ended up just leaving the car in the structure that's literally right across the street from the hotel. It wasn't exactly like we needed our car as everything is so close. Finally, The Morris House is not part of some chain. I would always rather patronize local independent businesses.

Cozy, friendly and within decent range of my destinations. Parking was easy as they have a small lot at the back of the building. Breakfast was delicious and the coffee was great. My room was on the 3rd floor, so beware if you are bring a lot of luggage as there are no elevators (not that I was expecting any). I reserved this room as I wanted the fireplace. My only caveat: If you plan on using the fireplace, it is gas, and I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get it on the first night. I asked the next morning and didn't realize I had to ask for the pilot light to be lit. It was early October and it had just gotten cool out. The hosts were so accommodating! There is a small pantry area where there is a fridge for common use if needed with bottled water and coffee/tea available. (Keurig and Kcups). This was my first time booking a B&B and it was the perfect experience. My only SLIGHT disappointment was that the Wi-Fi left a little to be desired. It was sometimes spotty, but still got me through. I would most definitely recommend it and if I am in the Philly area, would book it again in a heartbeat!

We had originally booked another place on Airbnb but when we arrived it was dirty and we decided to leave. I found the Gables at the last minute and they had a room and allowed us to check in within an hour. The room was amazing. We were so worn down after a day of travel and the bad Airbnb experience that we would have taken anything clean, but were pleasantly surprised by the pristine, peaceful, beautiful suite that we got. The owners were very understanding of our situation and helped us get settled right away. They were great about helping us get trolley tokens and find our way downtown so we could enjoy what was left of the day. In addition, since it was my birthday they even surprised us with cake and champagne. The morning breakfast was also great and checkout was easy. I am a Penn alum but somehow didn't know about the Gables. It is now my go to place for trips to Philadelphia, I can't recommend it enough. Thanks to the owners for a great stay!

Without us even asking, they placed a bottle of wine with a beautiful handwritten card for our anniversary. Everyone from the manager to the front desk was always attentive and friendly. I found this hotel to be my favorite in Philadelphia partially because of its excellent location. It is located right in Rittenhouse Literally 10 steps to Rittenhouse square and has a feeling of natural peacefulness not present in the hotels deeper in the center city. It was a great feeling to spend the day in the hustle and bustle of the center city, then come back to our peaceful hotel. Additionally, the hotel is a short walk away from excellent restaurants such as Parc and Steak 48, as well as a huge variety of shops surrounding the area. I haven't written a review in ages, but feel compelled to alert other travelers. We stayed in the Lafayette which was spacious but run down and dirty. I could see past that if it hadn't been for the worst service I've ever experienced in a stay. We arrived for breakfast an hour and a half before it was over. The table linens were stained (on literally every table) and the coffee pot was nearly empty (with luke warm coffee). When an employee finally came out from the back and I politely said the coffee was out, we got an earful about her "not making another pot," "it will go to waste or they'll just have to save it for tomorrow." She said we could use the keurig because she wasn't making more. She continued to go on about them trying to save money, complaining about people taking cups from where they weren't supposed to, people with gluten allergies, and on and on. I've traveled all over the world and stayed at several B&Bs. I'm used to B&Bs being charming and welcoming, but here I felt like I was being lectured -- like I hadn't read all the paperwork or something. It was so unexpected , unpleasant, and uncomfortable. Most places go out of their way to show you the space and share details. I received a welcome email before arriving saying staff would happily assist in making recommendations, dinner reservations, etc. I actually replied and got no response. There was never any staff who expressed anything close to this kind of hospitality. The next morning when we went to store our luggage before leaving, the desk was unattended. Someone went to seek help and we were met with the same annoyed employee from breakfast the previous day. I said I wanted to make sure we didn't need tags or to inform anyone that we're leaving luggage (as the sign at the front desk indicates), and she --again, annoyed-- said "I don't even know why it says that, we don't have time for that" and removed it from the counter. We attempted to contact the manager Maria twice about concerns and have yet to receive a return call. Location is lovely. Rooms are below average. Service is laughable.

We were going to crash at his house, but he and his wife are looking to buy a house in Manayunk, and wanted our opinion of the town, so they said " we got you a B&B, go explore" and I am so glad we did, as we love going to places we have never been to. My wife went to check in, and I stayed in the car, as I wanted to go look at the town and get some food as we had been on the road for 4 hours. As I sat in the car, I got a surprise of a knock on my window, and it was Mark, one of the owners, who wanted to come introduce himself. I thought that was awesome. He is extremely friendly, and we had a nice chat about the history of the B&B, and the town in general. Mark recommended a couple of great places to eat. We stayed in the English Garden Suite. First and foremost the room was CLEAN! The room was decorated exactly how I expected it to be, fun wallpaper, big king size bed, with big pillows & high ceilings. Mark was kind enough to have the A/C on, as I had called to say we would be there about 2:30, and it was about 95 degrees that day. There was a vintage couch and chair in the room (pics) There was no TV in the room ( Thank God ). The room is perfect for 2 people who haven't over-packed. What the room lacks in size is made up with a huge parlor (pics) downstairs, and a nice sized outdoor porch. In the parlor there is complimentary water, seltzer, coffee, tea, beer and wine! They also had fresh fruit , and candy dishes filled with fun candy, so my wife and I stayed down there for a while listening to the perfectly picked out music playing. The B&B is walking distance to the town, and it's a really fun town to walk around and be a tourist in. There are coffee shops, bars, restaurants, clothing stores, antique stores, (you must check out Jinxed Variety), and an Insomnia cookie shop, and furniture stores. The town even has a vegan bakery, Crust ( we took home some delicious poptarts! ). This B&B is also walking distance to Pretzel Park (look it up). Manayunk is a unique town, lots of hills, pockets of fun areas. I will say the parking can be challenging, but Mark went out of his way to help us...there is street parking, during the day ( pay ), and there is a parking lot that you can stay as long as you want, but you pay by the hour. I believe after 8:00 street parking on Main Street is free. Don't let the parking scare you from coming to this awesome B&B, or this cool town. My biggest regret was that we had to miss breakfast, as we were going antiquing in CT, and well you know how I-95 is. But i am sure you can see from other pictures, and reviews, the breakfast is a real treat here. I look forward to coming back to Manayunk Chambers Guest House, and this fun little town!

We were very pleased to find a parking garage adjacent to the estate and proximity to Old City and its amenities. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the owner, Nature, who was very hospitable. We stayed on the third floor and were quickly reminded that we were not in a hotel (i.e., no elevators) and began lugging our bags up the steep staircase. Our room - and the entire house - was as authentic as possible following some minor restoration. The decor was not our cup of tea, but it fit the theme and we were not surprised it was missing some modern touches (i.e., USB outlets, an updated shower, etc.). We stayed here only one night but got to experience breakfast on Sunday morning; fresh pancakes with powdered sugar and blueberries and perfectly cooked sausage links. The hot food was complemented by a continental breakfast spread of fresh fruit, bagel, bread, and pastries. Our only gripe of the entire stay was that our room was extremely warm. The owner informed us upon arrival that "only heat was on" and to use the fan in the room if necessary. Unfortunately, the fan did not suffice and we were forced to prop open a window to cool of the room before we slept. Sadly, we could not keep the windows open while sleeping, because there were no screens and the city is noisy at all hours - especially early in the morning.
