This location is amazing! Within walking distance of so many attractions, stores, restaurants, the river and the subway. Our room was clean and we loved being able to open the doors on our balcony. The bed and pillows were some of the best we've had at a hotel in a long time. We never heard another guest while we were there and enjoyed the muffins and coffee available in the lobby each more. This is unfortunate because I wanted to like this place. The staff was kind, it's a cute hotel, the complimentary breakfast muffins were good, and the bed was comfortable. But that's where it ends. This is my fault, but the location: I noticed way too late the hotel is right on top of I-95, which translates into nonstop highway noise. And technically, the hotel not far from Center City, but it's too far to conveniently cover on foot. I'd much rather step outside the hotel and be right in the middle of rather than having to walk 30 minutes in the elements. They give you one big metal key with the warning it's $50 if you lose it...why not just install the card system? The shower had low water pressure and ran lukewarm after 4-5 minutes. The sink didn't drain properly, the hot water lever was tight and also had low pressure. I reported all this and was told there are no engineers on weekends. Then I received a note saying there's also no housekeeping on the weekends...aren't weekends the busiest times for hotels? Why are there no engineers or housekeeping? Early one morning, even with the "do not disturb" sign up, staff completely disregarded it and attempted to enter the room. All these occurrences are why many are leery of boutique hotels and would just rather stay at the big box brands. Unfortunately, I will not stay here again. read more

This was a unique experience. The biggest inconvenience is the parking situation. If I already dropped hundreds of dollars on my hotel room, the last thing I want to do is spend more money on parking. I understand this is the norm for the area. We couldn't fit our truck in the next door parking lot, so we had to walk our suitcases about 3 mins over to the next lot which was roughly $50 for an overnight spot. Lemon water was provided in the lobby and muffins were available for breakfast. Check in was simple. The room itself was quaint and the thermostat was very responsive. Just a few things to note... there was no fridge, microwave, or coffee maker in the room. The tub is beautiful, but the jets didn't work. The tv is in an armoire which is pleasing to the eye, but unfortunately not that functional since the doors don't stay fully open and you can't see the tv from across the room. There's also only one nightstand so for two people, it's a little inconvenient. The fireplace was a nice touch, and it was functional, and the balcony is cool to have but it was so small you could hardly stand and definitely no room to put a chair out there. Once we figured out how to get the shower on, the water was hot, so that was a plus, however the bathroom door didn't lock. I'd recommend this hotel if you just need a comfortable place to spend a night, and you're not concerned about your budget. read more

Solid experience. Location is excellent. Check in was smooth, I arrived early before my room was ready so they stashed my bags and I came back when they said a room would be ready, and it was. It was SO HOT when I was there, and the AC unit in the room was doing its best to keep it cool. I had a corner room, which was on the small side, but for one night was perfect. Clean, comfortable. I thought the front desk staff and management were fantastic, the room was cozy, the old wood flooring throughout the rooms was well maintained and homey. The shower temperature and pressure were perfect. We didn't have the opportunity to check out happy hour at the wine bar, but it looked like a fantastic deal. The decor throughout the hotel was elegant and welcoming. We didn't bring a car, but I know they offer valet to a lot right beside the building. I can't wait to return. read more

Beautiful boutique hotel that we always stay at while in Philly. The GM, Antonio, was very pleasant and quick to resolve any issues that needed attention. He and the staff were constantly asking if we needed assistance; we could not have received more than this 5 star treatment. We booked one of the larger rooms that had a balcony that was setup with a cute iron table and chairs, a room with a love settee and a beautiful fireplace. The king bed had a comfortable mattress and perfect weighted linens. I prefer the ambiance of this hotel over the overly modern aesthetics of most hotels. Hotel centered around all the historic sites within walking distance as well as numerous varieties of restaurants. Be sure to checkout the bar and Italian restaurant Panorama inside hotel lobby. Stayed recently for two nights while in Philly for a funeral. The staff were wonderful. They accommodated us swiftly amidst the Columbus Day holiday rush with a stress free check in and an easy transition into 2 new rooms when we needed to book additional nights. They even moved our food from one refrigerator to the next while we were out! That was so appreciated! Due to the nature of our visit, we didn't get to explore the area but it's conveniently located to all the major tourist attractions - be sure to check out Elfreth's Alley - which we saw on a previous visit. I loved this little hotel. As others have mentioned, its proximity to a highway is a drawback, and I did find the noise a bit annoying. But this one flaw (which the hotel obviously as no control over) is more than compensated for by clean rooms, good housekeeping, and a friendly, efficient and helpful staff. Robert considerately gave me a late checkout; Pepito, the resident expert on Philadelphia, was extremely helpful in planning my itinerary, and Rasha was always available with a warm smile and a willingness to do anything to make my stay more comfortable. I enjoyed my stay at Penn's hotel. Ayana went that extra step to get what I requested when I made the reservations on the phone, thank you plus she's sweet, polite and friendly, in fact all the stuff were friendly nice. The hotel is in a nice location, it's clean, bright, with some nice furniture. I had a nice queen size room, with a sweet sort of balcony, that was partly over looking the waterfront and part of the city. I know they have larger rooms and with fireplaces also here. Definitely try their upscale, delicious restaurant next door, with a great selections of wines. Otherwise you can walk to the many local ones. Plus if you like to walk, like I do, walk up Market Street from the hotel, just 30 minutes or so, for all historical landmarks, museums and much more. Next time I visit Philly, I'll be definitely staying here again but in one of your king-size rooms with a fireplace read more

Disgusting rooms + noisy highway + horrible service Had to checkout early. If you are traveling on business for a large convention conference, be careful as the hotels will all book up closer to the date and you will be stuck with a room at Penn's View Hotel should you need to cancel your reservation after checking if the rooms are clean in person. Not a fun night. Management offered me 4 different rooms which all had hair and/or red stains on the sheets (not sure what the red was...) and or pillows. I finally asked for some clean sheets, and they gave me sheets with dark stains on the pillow case and hair in the sheets... things took a turn for the worst when I tried pulling out towels to lay over the bed only to find a rotten smelling towel with stains on it.... Throughout the night, it was so incredibly loud from the traffic outside I had to stuff my ears with earplugs. then in the second night they claimed they "deep cleaned" my room and I came back to more hair on my bed and small stains on the towels... slightly cleaner towels than from the first night... To top it all off, I read reviews on here from 10 years ago that said the breakfast was good... nowadays the breakfast is only muffins and coffee. It's a shame read more

Stayed here for a quick visit to Philadelphia and it was close to a friends place. Pro: Good prices. Decent sized bar. Parking is located right next to hotel, in a separate lot. (paid lot) Room was average. Walking distance to Penn's Landing Not so Pro: Lobby area is small, one attendant. Elevator is small and slow. Staff uses it also, tight when you have to share with a cart. Bartender is slow and not prepared. Bathroom in room was small. All about the location. read more

a year later and all was great, Stayed in the room we like, unfortunately couldn't check in early as the room wasn't ready till normal check in time, got a note under the door on Saturday morning that there would be no housekeeping that day which really didn't matter to us as we know how to make a bed and any supplies, linens, toiletries were made available. the parking garage next door has upped their prices to $35 a day so don't be surprised as the hotel website still states $30.00. As others have remarked, this hotel is truly perfect as your Philly base camp. It's walking distance to SO much good stuff. It's also right off 95 so it's easy as heck to get to. There's on-site parking right next to the hotel. Be aware that it's like $30 a night; that's pretty much normal Philly prices but whew! However, it's also steps away from a large metro stop so maybe you wanna leave your car in the suburbs, just saying. The hotel itself is quirky and cute. The beds are soft and cushy and I slept really well; the pillows were perfect. The bathrooms were nice and the water pressure was excellent. Weirdly, our bathroom had no towel bars or hooks whatsoever. But I'm not Martha Stewart so I just hung my towel on a chair. The in-house restaurant was lively and the menu was quite intriguing, although, full disclosure, we only had drinks there. There's three steep steps to get in and out of the hotel entrance so I had to knock a point off for lack of accessibility. read more

We just had our second stay at Penns View, the last was 5 years ago. The hotel is my favorite that I've stayed in in the city. Parking is easy to get in and out of and is reasonable for a hotel in old city. The staff is welcoming and the rooms are cozy and clean. My favorite part is the deep soaking tub after a long day walking around Philadelphia. It's definitely worth booking this hotel if you want to stay convenient to old city and the market Frankford line. read more

I wrote a separate review on the rude, sketchy situation going down there. -Wrote in a $40 discount for my first night into my bill due to being military but failed to honor the discount and charged me the regular price -Loud due to thin walls and windows with difficult to control temperatures Penn's View needs to do something about the Patriot's Parking lot next door. Easy booking through the hotel website. *Very reasonable prices *It was 7 minutes walking from the Museum of the American Revolution where I was helping out at an event during my visit. *It's across the street from a number of shops and restaurants *Parking lot next door wasn't cheap, but the customer service was very nice. *Upon getting there they told me that they went and complimentarily upgraded my room to a King Size Bed from a Queen Size. *The front desk was super nice when I got there. She was so friendly and joyful. *Restaurant downstairs "Panorama" was quite good. I ordered lunch from there one day and was really surprised at how delicious it was. *The room was a nice size *The bathroom was a nice size as well! *Jetted tub... though, I'm not sure where the switch for this was... but maybe next time. *The bed was super comfortable *Large desk *Nice exposed brick on one of the walls *Loved the large oriental rug in the room. *Check out was swift and easy *Internet was fast *Did I mention it was a great location *Man, I just really enjoyed my stay here. What's great about Penn's View Hotel is that not only is the location beyond stellar (walking distance to many amazing restaurants and bars [to include the one in its own lobby, Panorama]), but the old school charm one feels while staying here is amazing. Yes, the hotel is historic but one wouldn't really get that from first glance. The upgrades in the hotel are fabulous and very modern yet you still feel that "vintage" and cozy feeling when you stay here. Example, most historic and older hotels keep their original sinks, wall paper, paint etc. Not here. The look is to keep the old fashioned feeling but yet the paint isn't chipping like older hotels and the fixtures are modern (we had an awesome gas fireplace in our room). Staff was very friendly and accommodating (called cabs for us, assisted with luggage, etc). Overall an excellent stay! read more

I loved! LOVED this place, from the atmosphere, location ,and friendly staff, the building is also covered in artwork. Transit system right outside the building, and the L is one block down. They also have a weekly breakfast in their lounge, that consists of a waffle maker, egg boiler, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, breads, muffins, cereal etc.... there is something for everyone. Free Wifi, and its not the annoying wifi that asks you to log in every time, you do it once and you are good for the duration, as well it was a nice and fast. My room was clean every day when i returned, as well i was greeted by the friendly staff, the rooms were a decent size, and decorated well. Beds are firm but not rock hard. It was also super quiet. Another fantastic feature is that the parking lot next to the hotel is staffed 24hrs and is moderately priced but similar to other close parking lots. My experience was i turned in to the lot and was greeted with a guy who told how long i was staying he charged my credit card appropriately and gave me a tag for the the rear view. This will be my place of choice for any future visits to Philadelphia. read more

We found Penn's View Hotel online and it looked like the perfect place to stay for a few days in early May in Philly. I called and Chloe answered. She was delightful and so helpful, making our booking experience seamless. Her customer service and knowledge was stellar in subsequent phone calls and emails, too. Everything was exactly as she'd described about our queenbed riverview room with private terrace. We'd never stayed in Old City before and promptly fell in love with how walkable and fun it was. So many nearby bars and restaurants, and such a lovely part of town! We couldn't have been happier with the room, the hotel and the staff. Chloe was unfortunately out of town during our stay, but she made sure that Antonio took care of us. And he was wonderful, too. This hotel is a classic. It is beautiful on the inside despite its age. My huge complaint was the air conditioner. Every time it went to turn on it made a extremely loud banging sound that sounded like a gun shot. It would wake both of us up in the middle of the night multiple times. The smoke detector was dangling from the ceiling and did not appear to be working either. The hotel however was clean and in decent location compared to stores and restaurants. Penns View Hotel is a hidden gem at the foot of Market Street, within walking distance of many, many great venues in Old City to include Penns Landing, itself. A short note to the City of Philadelphia - Penns Landing is in need of some touching up since we saw a lot of superficial damage while attending the Commissioning of the USS Somerset. Back to Penns View ... Our room was very comfortable and very quiet considering that the hotel was totally full for the 2 nights we stayed. The complimentary breakfast was very, very good. We had a coupon for Panorama Ristorante due to a special deal and ended up eating lunch twice and dinner once. More on that when I update my review for the restaurant and bar. Ask for Room 307 or 407 for a very charming experience. The hotel is well appointed and had everything we needed. Even though I didn't use it, the exercise room was nice. Comfortable bedding and a staff that is second to none. Antonio, one of the managers, was helpful and responsive to our every request. A hotel with solid wood doors and real keys - how nice is that? We will definitely return. One thing - parking in the area is at a premium and you don't want to consider trying to get around it. The meter attendants don't take any prisoners and are quick to ticket and tow. There is a lot adjacent to the hotel that provides 24 hour parking ( with unlimited in/out privileges ). read more

I wanted to surprise my bf with a room in the city. We already did the posh botique in NYC a few months ago, so I was looking for a bed & breakfast kind of feel, and Penn's View Hotel was exactly what I was looking for, and reasonable priced for being right in the city. We got the king-sized bedroom with fireplace and jacuzzi tub. I loved the interior - brick wall, old fashioned furniture and bedding as I expected, but still nice all the same. The room faced the river and 95, so it was a little noisy, but really you can't beat the location. The free continental breakfast was pretty good, toast, baked goods, waffles and fruit. And yes, you do have to hardboil your own eggs. And a helpful staff! I would definitely come back for another stay. read more

I was worried about staying at this hotel at first because they literally don't have any pics of the bathrooms on their website. I only stayed here due to a bachlorette party so there wasn't really a choice when it came to making bride happy. We arrived to an updated bathroom in our room, so thankfully it wasn't old and gross (which was our initial thought on why there weren't any pics). I think they left out bathroom pics since they were updated and didn't fit the historic nature of the hotel. The literal door key to open our room did however, it's also on a HUGE chain, so ladies this might be inconvenient while going out. It's a bit dated in interior design but what do you expect, this entire community is historical so the building structures are beautiful yet dates. I am giving them 3 stars not because I did not enjoy my stay, I did. But, the carpet in the hallway and room had a weird smell and that did not work well with my allergies yikes! But the bed was super comfy, the jacuzzi in my room was relaxing and their continental breakfast was really delicious!!!!!! Love, love, love, love this cute little hotel! It was my friend and I's first time traveling to Philly and luckily we found a great deal on a hotel at Penn's View. Once we arrived, the woman at the front desk was extremely inviting and was quick to check us in. To our surprise, we received a free upgrade! Penn's View uses real keys instead of key cards which is a cute little touch to this historical and home-y feeling hotel. They also offer complementary breakfast! Once we arrived in our room we were in awe at how adorable the wallpaper, wood furnitures, and old time-y decor looked! There was a gas fireplace in our room along with a queen sized bed, small table with two chairs, 2 dressers, a small television, and a bathroom with a MASSIVE tub! It was the perfect size for my friend and I and we both agreed that we would definitely be staying at this hotel next time we were in Philly again! On top of all the wonderful decor, the view was breathtaking. We were on the 4th floor so we had a great view of the bridges and Penn's landing. It's located in an area that has a ton of restaurants, stores, and bars so no uber or cab is necessary to explore the Old City area! The only thing that customers should know is that Penn's View hotel does not have its own parking lot, although there is one directly adjacent to the hotel where you can pay $26 per night to leave your car. When that parking lot fills up though (like it did for my friend and I) there are other lots available around the block that are still within walking distance to Penn's View. We actually found one for $20 per night right around the corner! read more

This place is cute and quaint and had an intense vintage feel. Our room key was an actual key unlike the card keys you would see at more modern hotels. CUTE. Staff was super polite and nice. But nothing super impressive. The majority of people we saw staying the hotel looked like upper middle class business people. At the complimentary breakfast the next morning me and my party felt a little out of place. I was totally digging the jazzy music and almost felt like I was at an upscale gathering where everyone talked in whispers and the only thing you could hear was the soft clinking of our ceramic plates.... Ahh the elegance. Anyways over all the place was clean and our room cozy/quaint! Our view wasn't anything extraordinary but it was definitely better than the back of another building.
