We booked a room here to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday in Philadelphia. We typically don't book B&Bs but were intrigued by the historic appeal and location. We were very pleased to find a parking garage adjacent to the estate and proximity to Old City and its amenities. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the owner, Nature, who was very hospitable. We stayed on the third floor and were quickly reminded that we were not in a hotel (i.e., no elevators) and began lugging our bags up the steep staircase. Our room - and the entire house - was as authentic as possible following some minor restoration. The decor was not our cup of tea, but it fit the theme and we were not surprised it was missing some modern touches (i.e., USB outlets, an updated shower, etc.). We stayed here only one night but got to experience breakfast on Sunday morning; fresh pancakes with powdered sugar and blueberries and perfectly cooked sausage links. The hot food was complemented by a continental breakfast spread of fresh fruit, bagel, bread, and pastries. Our only gripe of the entire stay was that our room was extremely warm. The owner informed us upon arrival that "only heat was on" and to use the fan in the room if necessary. Unfortunately, the fan did not suffice and we were forced to prop open a window to cool of the room before we slept. Sadly, we could not keep the windows open while sleeping, because there were no screens and the city is noisy at all hours - especially early in the morning. Overall, it was an interesting experience. But, we will most likely book a hotel during our next overnight visit to the City of Brotherly Love. read more

I came to Philly for 4 days specifically to have a quest place to write grants for my non-profit. For the entire 4 days, there was NO WIFI in the room. Nor did other guests have WIFI in their rooms. Each day I communicated with staff re this hardship and my reason for being there. I paid over $600 for the room and was only comped $100 for the inconvenience. On my last day, a staff member said I could have a late check out of 4 pm as my flight did not leave until 8, as a way to compensate for the issues. The manager then called at 2:45 saying I had to be out immediately. The one outlet in my bedroom did not work.There is no heat - and it got down to 45 at night. There is only a space heater, which is not safe to run all night. Stairs are steep and there are a lot of them. There is no one to help carry luggage. Rooms are small. Mine was freezing - had to ask for blankets as there were not extra in the room - as they had indicated. read more

Do NOT stay at this place! Terrible experience! We felt traumatized, unsafe, and threatened at this establishment. We had a horrible experience with new Innkeeper Liz! After she checked us in we went out for the evening. While we were out she realized that she put us in the wrong room, then violated our privacy by gathering most of our belongings and moving us to a different room! When we returned we repeatedly asked (text & voice calls) for help to get the rest of our belongings but she didn't respond. In the hall in the morning we ran into the couple in our previous room and they got our belongings for us. Shortly after that Liz directed us to pack our belongings and vacate or she would call the police! When we asked why, once again she did not answer. Wow. Just...wow. We're trying to get a refund but there appears to be no accountability as it's owned by the park service but the Innkeeper is the only recourse we've found. The whole incident was exceptionally traumatic and unnerving. We've stayed here several times before while Craig was the innkeeper, always with pleasant results. Liz was extremely unprofessional and handled this situation horribly - we'll never stay here again. We're 64 years old and have travelled extensively and can honestly say that we've never experienced anything like this. read more

We stayed for several days and wanted to bring the New Year in and I am so glad we chose to stay here at this bed and breakfast. We have been to Philadelphia several times and have stayed at several places but without a shadow of a doubt this has been the best place we have stayed at so far. As soon as you walk in there is a dining area which is set up for breakfast in the morning and a parlor area with plenty of seating areas. It was decorated with most beautiful Christmas tree, with a beautiful fire place. We would normally grab a seat there as we grabbed a complimentary coffee or tea along with a cookie or glass of wine. As other guests come in they would often join to talk. The innkeeper often joined us to chat and was a great host. We stayed in room 402-the Robert Fulton room, it was plenty large enough with a comfortable full bed. The bathroom was quite spacious. The room was really nice and quaint. My girlfriend loved the room. It was perfect! The only thing I did not necessarily like was the fact that we had to climb the 4 flights of stairs whenever we left or came back to the room. Regardless, the stair climbing did not take away from the charm. Every days we were there we had breakfast-coffee, toast, baked goods, yogurt and fruits. We loved our stay there and will absolutely come back on our next visit. read more

Staying overnight in Old City is such a great experience and where better than a historic B&B! The building and rooms were excellent. The parlor was great and allowed us to add a couple of games of chess to our trip. The complementaries were a super touch! And of course Craig and Don were great to chat with. There is a friendly cat in the house that helps to ensure that no guests without reservations enter (and to help referee any chess games). The location is perfect and allows for walking access to all the historic stops in Old City, Chinatown, Reading Terminal Market and Penns Landing - not to mention all the great restaurants nearby. read more

Staying at Thomas Bond House was my first experience at a B&B and it was outstanding! We stayed for one night in the Benjamin Franklin room and it thoroughly exceeded my expectations. We decided to stay at a B&B over a regular hotel because the pricing was comparable to any of the chain hotels in the downtown area and the photos of the rooms online looked so charming. The innkeeper, Craig, is funny, warm, and welcoming. We asked to drop off/pick up our bags outside of normal check in/out times and they were more than accommodating! Staying here feels like staying at an old friend's house, not to mention the absolutely gorgeous decor in every detail of the house! My favorite part of the stay was definitely the hot breakfast which they serve on weekends. As we came down into the dining room, the staff cooked our breakfast fresh and it was such a lovely experience. I highly recommend the French Toast if you are luck enough to stay on a morning it is served! If you are looking for a unique, personalized, lodging experience I cannot recommend Thomas Bond House highly enough!! Period correct house that is beautifully done! My wife and I stayed for a week and absolutely LOVED the history of Philly and of Thomas Bond House. Craig (Inn Keeper & Manager) was FANTASTIC! He is warm and welcoming (not to mention he bakes fresh cookies each night) and is eager to help with anything you may need. From restaurant recommendations to places to see, he can point you in the right direction. The Thomas Bond House B&B is a GREAT alternative to a hotel in Old City Philly centrally located to everything. My wife and I walked everywhere averaging roughly 7 miles a day looking at the different historical markers, museums, and vibrant history of Philadelphia including foodie locations. Just stayed here for two nights and this cozy, homey B&B is the antidote to a freezing winter. The whole place is so Philadephia colonial, so charming. Even the floorboards are the original from hundreds of shares ago, and the house has an intriguing past. It's also located right across from legendary City Tavern and the incredibly captivating American Revolution Museum. You could not stay in a better location. Our room was charming and well laid-out, always clean and quaint. The living room is my favorite spot at the B&B, so inviting - I spent hours there reading local magazines and eating the homemade cookies Craig and Nadia put out around 8pm. The breakfasts are solid, too. I recommend this spot to everyone who wants the Philadelphia experience! 5 stars!!!!!!! read more

There is an innkeeper and an innkeeper's cat that is the sweetest cat ever. No, sadly, you can't rent the car to stay in the room with you. However, she does hang out in the common areas during the evening wine or cookies and she will play with you. Or pose and be adored. The rooms were nicely decorated and accommodating. It was easy to imagine traveling in the early times of America. It's also wonderful to have an in room bath to clean off your "battle" of the day. The breakfast on the weekend is fresh cooked and tasty. The weekday breakfast has a wide selection and is well balanced. Coffee and tea is always available. The innkeepers are knowledgeable about the area and can help suggest places not commonly on the list of historical places to go. We had a great time during our stay at the Thomas Bond House, which was a 3-day weekend. We particularly appreciated the staff. Craig told us about different places to go and gave us a very handy map that we used to get around. We really liked knowing that our home base was between the "tree streets" Walnut and Chestnut - great tip when trying to walk back - and we absolutely loved his tip about walking over the Ben Franklin Bridge, which we never would have found on our own during a short 3-day trip. It's a 1.5 mile walk each way an was a great way to start our Sunday morning before flying home. Also, Diane was so nice to watch out bags for us and she made wonderful breakfasts with fabulous touches that made us feel like we were at home. It was also neat to be in the heart of Old City, which is a great place with so much history. The rooms are comfortable and the atmosphere is incredibly historic. We are very overdue in writing a review for the Thomas Bond House, as we have now stayed there 6 times within the past 2 years. We are incredibly grateful to Craig and his staff at this perfect inn in Old City. Our daughter began treatment at Shriner's Philly in 2020. I believe our first visit to TBH was in August of that year, and we have returned every 4-6 months or so since, including a week-long stay when she had surgery in July of 2021. Only one parent was allowed to stay overnight in the hospital with her, so one of us stayed at TBH and traveled back and forth. The inn is comfortable and historic with period furnishings and decor. We have stayed in several of the rooms, including the larger suites and have found them cozy and comfortable. We have really enjoyed the early evening wine hour before heading out to dinner. It's an opportunity to meet and talk with other guests, as well as Craig and his staff. Craig is full of information about the city and neighborhood and is great about making recommendations. So much is within walking distance, but Ubers are available at the front door in about 5 minutes. Fresh baked cookies are waiting for guests at the end of the evening, which was a big hit for our daughter. Craig would often ask for her favorite kind in advance of our stay. And let's talk about George. George needs her own paragraph. George is Craig's cat and the inn's sort-of mascot. She's friendly and welcoming, playful and funny. She knows to stay away during breakfast, but she comes when called and will enjoy jumping into your shopping bag. George has added an extra bit of comfort for our daugter, who looks forward to seeing her every time we visit. Craig and the team have navigated all of the changing mandates due to the pandemic to maintain a safe and comfortbale environment for all. They take into account dietary needs for breakfast and always put out a nice spread. We cannot say enough about TBH! Craig and his team have given us a home away from home during a stressful time for us as a family. TBH is largely the reason our daughter has handled her treatment and surgery with such ease and resilience. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts! read more

This cozy b&b was so much more fun than the standard hotels in the area we almost stayed at for our Philly trip. The room was rustic but clean and had all the amenities we needed. We came to the Philly area to look at local universities. A friend of mine, who is an area native, recommended Thomas Bond House. She was 100% correct in doing so. Thomas Bond House is wonderful. It is well placed near historical sites, restaurants, shops, and the subway line. The place is cozy and clean. After a long day it felt like coming home. We were there during the weekdays and the Continental Breakfasts were delicious, including homemade items such as banana nut loaf. Service was timely, excellent, and friendly. We were able to have the enhanced breakfast on the Saturday before we left. Delicious! Chocolate Chip Pancakes, egg bake, and ham. And now a word about the innkeeper, Craig. He is a gem! An absolute gem. Helpful, courteous, funny, kind, and informative. He even dragged my 62.5 pound suitcase all the way up to the top floor when we arrived! I highly recommend staying here. I always search an area for location before booking. If you are going to Philadelphia for the historical sites this is the place to stay! Central to Independence Hall, American Revolution Museum, and Betsy Ross Museum. History will be on every street corner in this neighborhood. Numerous excellent restaurants are just steps away and Penn's Landing just down the street. Craig, the host of the B&B, is outstanding and was helpful with all our questions. I agree with previous posts that raved about this place. I am only going to add more points that haven't been mentioned before: * Comfortable bed in a room with AC, and complimentary Wi-Fi!!!! Old creature comfort with modern technology. "Huzzah" As Ben Franklin himself would say. * Friendly and helpful inn keepers, give you directions, tips and suggestions about the nooks and crannies of the local points of interest. * Located in the Old City within walking distance to all historical sites. Public transportation are also easily accessible. * Surrounded by restaurants, taverns, hip bars. There are crowds at night but not rowdy (we stayed during weekdays), no noise to bother us sleeping. * Several guests were repeat customers (a good sign). A note of warning: The rooms are in the 2nd, 3rd & 4th floors and there is no elevator. Consider this carefully when choosing your rooms and/or when packing your luggage. I spent 8 nights at Thomas Bond House and it was absolute perfection! It's located in the heart of Old City, next to the site of William Penn's house and caddy corner from City Tavern - I believe it's actually considered part of Independence National Historic Park (although the house is only open to guests) so it's a short walk to ALL the big historic sites and beautiful Society Hill. Though it's important to always be vigilant when staying in a city, this area of town felt very safe even after dark - with many popular bars and restaurants just a block away. Then there is Craig who runs the house - an absolute rockstar! So incredible friendly and helpful, he was always there to give me a recommendation if I was suffering analysis paralysis on what to see/do next, needed directions, help with public transit, where to rent a car locally, which ghost tour to pick...basically anything I needed, he was there to help! It's a place to experience antique charm on the inside while being conveniently located to many things the city has to offer. Our host, Craig, was friendly and informative. Breakfast was good. We were served egg bake with cheese and broccoli, ham, and pancakes, as well as continental options, juice and coffee. They also offer a few treats throughout the day like wine in the evening and cookies at night. The room was cute and clean. Though it's got an old fashioned look, the bathrooms etc. seem to have been renovated recently, and everything works just as you'd expect. I'd definitely stay there again. read more

We love old, historic buildings, especially when they're a B&B. Location was great, easy to walk to the river and historic spots. All the communications we had with the staff before arriving were good and helpful. Directions were clear and times we could drop off bags before check-in was most helpful. The downstairs dining room and living room are well-appointed and have many interesting historic items on the wall to peruse. The warm cookies at night are a nice touch. We ended up booking the Benjamin Franklin room as it was the only one free for the night we needed. We didn't mind that it was all the way at the top. We didn't mind it was a bit small. It's an old house so we expect that. Unfortunately the air vents hasn't been cleaned in ages and had loads of dust in it. My husband as asthma and this ended up being a bad situation for him as the vent is over the bed so he had air and dust blowing right at him all night long. We did turn off the air at one point as it was freezing, but then it got extremely hot. There is no temperature control so choices are freeze or boil. The other thing was the shower. They have some sort of squishy mat in the bath/shower that is kind of bizarre and weird. My husband did wonder if the mattress was from the 1800's as well. Not comfortable at all. We can't speak about the other rooms. We were quite excited about breakfast in the morning. Sadly the excitement was not warranted. I asked for the French toast and my husband ordered the eggs and sausages. They also had a buffet of bread, cereal, fruit and muffins. Unfortunately none of the baked goods were homemade, and they looked like they had just come out of plastic wrap from the food shop. The sliced bread was more like a brown version of wonder bread. The fruit was spoiled (cut-up brown banana slices). We were surprised how fast our "hot" choices came out. Not so much after I saw that the French toast was not cooked properly - it had moist batter still on it - and was mushy bread. The eggs were ice cold and the sausages slightly rubbery. Husband said the coffee was "watery, brown muck". Rather than risk food poisoning we cut our losses and found a cute little shop a couple of blocks away where husband had good coffee and we shared a delicious scone. This place could be fab if they can sort out some of these issues. Fresh baked goods, properly cooked food, and fresh fruit are trademarks of a good B&B. read more

My husband and I stayed at the Thomas Bond House during a weekend visit to Old City. We selected the inn based on its price and proximity to the sites we planned to visit. Good call on our part! The Thomas Bond House is a gem. Tastefully decorated, it exudes the charm of an historic property, while, at the same time, offering modern amenities, such as air conditioning, private baths, WiFi, and in-room televisions. (Warning: No historic elevator.) Though the inn and the rooms are small, they are not lacking in privacy. Innkeepers Chrissy and Craig are extraordinary. They are attentive without being intrusive and are genuinely interested in making their guests' time, in both the inn and the city, enjoyable. The breakfasts were hearty and delicious, served in a comfortable dining room, and the end of every day is met with fresh-baked cookies and wine. I have some dietary restrictions, and Craig and Chrissy graciously worked within those limitations in preparing their delicious menus. Across the street from City Tavern, next door to a reasonably-priced parking garage, around the corner from the Museum of the American Revolution, and a few blocks from Independence Mall, the Thomas Bond House is a great place to begin and end your day in Old City Philadelphia. read more

I'm here at the Thomas Bond House as I write this. It is 2AM Saturday morning. There is no sleeping here as the drunks parade by just outside the window. Every hoot and holler, every whoop and shout, every drunken bellow can be heard as if I were on the streets with the revelers. And then there are the non-stop honking taxis, roaring, unmuffled cars gunning their motors and thumping bass blaring from car stereos... You get the picture; pretty much every noise you can hear in a bar infested party zone. There is no sleeping here, which means there is no rest, which means this is not much of a vacation AT ALL. Other than that, if you're a zombie and don't need any sleep, this place is in a great location and is very quaint. read more

We had a fantastic stay at the Thomas Bond House. The place was impeccably cleaned and our room was spotless in particular. Hand sanitizer was available everywhere and guest wore masks. All of the food was handled in a sanitary way taking care to avoid potential cross contamination across guests. Our hosts, Craig, was friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure that we enjoyed our stay. What a fantastic place! After talking to several locals, I have discovered that this is a hidden secret--nobody seems to know what or where it is. A historical monument in the old downtown, this is the 1797 home of Dr. Thomas Bond, who co-founded the nation's first hospital with Benjamin Franklin. Now it is privately owned and operated as a bed and breakfast by some of the nicest people ever. The stay was very pleasurable and all needs were met. The old-style home guarantees that you will climb the narrow staircase with all your luggage (I walked up to the 4th floor) so if you are weak in body you might reconsider. There is no AC but it was cool enough when I went and they have circulating air. The decor was quaint and the living room/kitchen is a great place to browse and read. Nice breakfast spread in the morning and fun to hobnob with other guests, many of whom were at my same conference. Great place if you want to be in the middle of history and enjoy a personable experience! read more

My wife and I spent a Saturday and Sunday night at the Thomas Bond House, and we were immensely pleased with our decision to stay there. It was a neat experience to stay in a historic building that balanced its historic qualities with modern amenities (such as attached bathroom and air conditioning). We've been burned before by "historic" or "authentic" lodgings that were a little too literal in their interpretation. The Thomas Bond House is a perfect balance. I'm a light sleeper and had forgotten to pack earplugs for the trip, but we didn't even have to request any because they were already on the night stand in our room. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Their thoughtfulness exceeds any other B&B I've stayed at. Treats were left out each night for guests who might be returning late in the evening, and in my case, with a dairy allergy, they were thoughtful enough to provide a special plate with our name on it with some dairy free treats. Really though, I've been to many B&B's and this is has got to be one of the worst. Stayed here in September 2010. The rooms are horrible-- I get it, it's old and quaint and that's the point. But it could be done sooo much better! The place smells like it needs a good cleaning. And the woman who runs the place, she really should have gone into another field. Running a B&B requires social skills and a good temperament. Every time we tried to ask her something or even as we would come and go, she would act as though she was being bothered. Living outside of Philadelphia I find myself in the city quite a bit, whether it for visiting a museum, having dinner with friends or just visiting the local nightlife for a change from the suburbs. All the times I've been to Olde City I never noticed the Thomas Bond House before this trip. My father found the location when looking for a unique venue close to the historic attractions to stay in with out of state friends for the 4th of July weekend. Within walking distance from Independence Hall (and other historic sites) and close to so clubs/bars for evening night caps this quaint historic building was ideal. There were 10 people in our party for the weekend taking up 5 of the house's rooms. My husband, sister and I stayed on the 4th floor in a charming room for three (double bed and twin bed). As long as you don't mind walking several flights of stairs this room is great as you are high enough from the street not to hear the noise from the local establishments at night. The three of us felt right at home between the coziness of the room, the cleanliness of the bathroom and the sitting rooms on the first floor. Added bonuses for us were being greeted each morning by pleasant staff that made phenomenal breakfasts (I was expecting something simple like bacon and scrambled eggs but instead we got gourmet meals to start our day off right), wine and cheese nightly around 5:30pm, and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies before bed. I've always wanted to stay in a bed and breakfast but usually find myself checking into hotels, motels or a friend's couch. From my experience at the Thomas Bond House I can happily say that I will definitely look into staying at more bed and breakfasts in the future. read more

So very nice and helpful in every way,,,,great tips on things to do. Even made reservations for us at the historic City Tavern (right across the street) the night we were arriving late for a 3-nioght Labor Day weekend stay. Complimentary glass of wine in evening. Warm cookies every night. Very excellent location to walk to many attractions, museums, restaurants, bars, etc. Breakfasts were good, very fresh fruit every day as well as other staple 'continental' choices. Sunday included French Toast, some very good sausage and scrambled eggs which were good but no 'signature' knock your socks off dishes that many B & B's feature. Free wifi worked very well. We stayed in the Benjamin Eldridge/204 room and it was VERY quiet. Bed was very comfortable. Very convenient parking garage adjacent to the property. You can park it once (approx 22.00 per day) and walk everywhere during your stay. Definitely recommend. read more

The staff was amazingly friendly and anticipated many of our questions and needs. The location was exceptional and within walking distance of everything we wanted to do. Parking was extremely easy as well with a garage right next door. The first room we stayed in was the Phineas Bond room and it was crazy small with an elevated queen bed. We're tall people and felt very claustrophobic. The second night we had the Catherine Cox room and it was also very small with a double bed but at least had a desk. We picked less expensive rooms and it is a very old house so perhaps we should have expected that but they were the smallest rooms we have stayed at. Then hot breakfasts were solid (really enjoyed the French Toast) and the pastries and breads were delicious. The nightly glasses of wine and fresh baked cookies were a great touch. We would say here again for the great location and exceptionally friendly staff but upgrade to a bigger room. read more

We ( 2 old ladies) were there on a Friday night. No noise. But the owner's reception was cold, no help carrying luggage upstairs . When I asked about a bus to the Rodin museum the response was "ask our staff". Room, common rooms all fine, spotless. TV very small but many inns opt out of the modern "conveniences" including phones in room to avoid disturbing the other guests. Truly we prefer that. What was obviously lacking was the friendliness that I've experienced in many other B&B's. We missed the wine and cheese but noticed that none of the other guests spoke or even greeted one another the next morning. As cold as the innkeeper was, the lady innkeeper was loud but not specifically engaging. The young lady who served breakfast was a redeeming friendly person. Gave us good info about buses ( no 38 from Market st. stops right in front of the Rodin - free if you have a medicare card!) You'd think an innkeeper would share all kinds of suggestions/info. This was the second time we stayed here. It is a beautiful, comfortable inn. Innkeeper Craig Woskolub and his staff are warm and friendly people and instantly make you feel at home. The included breakfast is excellent- don't miss the baked French toast if available. The location is convenient, across the street from the Museum of American Revolution and within walking distance of most historic sites. It is a bit pricey but a much nicer and more memorable experience than a standard hotel. We stayed in the Dr. Thomas Bond Jr. Room and appreciated the fireplace on a snowy night. read more
