I have been here a few times for shows now this year and it's a wonderful performing arts center. The staff are always super friendly, and picking up tickets at will call is a breeze. The bathrooms are always very clean and well maintained, and the acoustics inside are phenomenal. Such a great spot to see shows at, I love seeing Broadway musicals here. read more

Such a gem in my hometown! I am impressed with the shows that come through to play in South Bend. Some recents or upcoming: Come from Away, Straight No Chaser, Fiddler on the Roof, Legally Blonde, Dear Evan Hanson. Y'all. Even Yo-Yo Ma is playing there in May. Quite impressive for not being a metropolitan city. The theatre itself is just opulent and gorgeous. They updated the venue and the seats are more comfortable than most theatres! The Morris Performing Arts Center gets 5 stars for the beautiful aesthetics. However, the narrow, uncomfortable seating takes it down quite a bit. I have seen lots of performances at the Morris in my lifetime (being that it's my hometown's theater). The last two were the South Bend Symphony and John Mellencamp. I was in 3rd balcony for Mellencamp and I could not have been more uncomfortable. I typically get the cheap seats because I go to so many concerts but I will be hesitant to get the cheapest seats at the Morris again. This will likely mean missing concerts that I'm otherwise interested in. I think it's worth the drive to other venues (like the Blue Gate in Shipshewana) for more comfortable seats. read more

I have always, always loved the Morris. I have seen countless concerts, plays, and musicals there over the years, even having a membership for several years. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. They ruined it when they last remodeled and put larger chairs in spaces where they just don't fit, compromising the comfort of the ticket holders. We recently attended the John Mellencamp concert and had seats in the balcony. The sight line was excellent, the seats were horrible! When sitting in the seat, there was less than 6 inches of leg room between the edge of the seat and the back of the chair in front of me. This is not an exaggeration.. I measured with my phone! I emailed the Morris outlining my problem and specifically asked for a reply, but I did not receive one. There is no excuse for charging patrons full-price ticket prices for seats that nobody can sit in for two hours. I am 5' 7". Can you imagine some 6' or taller trying to manage it? I'm sure there are engineers somewhere in the vicinity of South Bend who could have made this whole seating issue work. Shame on the Morris for ruining such a beautiful venue. We will never go back. read more

Celebrating their 100th year . Amazing performing arts theater. Absolutely brings you back to the theaters of old. I have been in many of them in the 50's and 60's. This was renovated at some time, but kept that grandiose feel of the old craftsmanship of the past. Dress is casual, I did see a few suits and ties but no tuxedo's. I guess this event did not call for black and white . My daughter in law received 2 tickets and wanted me to go with her to a performance at The Morris. I was coming in town that day, so I obliged. She had tickets for the 2nd floor balcony. As I always prefer the balcony or the Mezzanine . Her seating and placement in the theater was very good. Two seats from the isle. Isle seats would be perfect, but these were good. Bathrooms were on each level, mens room being on the opposite side as the ladies. Both monitored by ushers outside the room. The refreshments were set up on each floor also. I got a water at $3.50, it was a higher end water company. Everything was great about this theater but.......... And this is a tragic failure of the renovation aspect. They wanted to keep this as a original feeling as they could when renovating it. Although in most cases when a theater of this age does an overall renovation, they update the seats. Unfortunately this was not the case here. The seats were so uncomfortable that it effected my enjoyment of the performance. I was not the only one that felt discomfort, the gentleman two seats from me was constantly complaining to his date about the seats. Not only that but at intermission, I heard almost everyone on the 2nd floor balcony lobby complaining about how extremely uncomfortable the seats were. We were so uncomfortable that we left before the performance was over. Too bad, we had to make that choice. I was not the only one either. As we were leaving others were also because of discomfort in the seats. I love this place , the ambiance, the old time vibe but hate the seats. As the seats were a little over $100.00 each, I received an enormous amount of pain that superseded the cost of the ticket. It will be a coin flip if I were to come back. Probably , only a Gala that you don't have to sit, as they are usually held in the lobbies. Take this into consideration. BTY: I am 175 pounds and 6 foot. Hope you get the idea of what I am trying to convey. read more

Worst seat ever! I've had to deal with this all season, tried to get the Morris to move my seats but I'm stuck. Paid over a thousand for the privilege of having the same seat every show. I think they must stick season ticket holders in the bad seats on purpose since they pay in advance. Not for me any longer!! read more

Recently I had the opportunity to go to a concert at the Morris...Amy Grant was in town and since the tickets were reasonable, my buddy and i decided to make the drive from Chicago and go see her sing. I was very impressed with the venue...it had a feel of an older theater and the acoustics were great. There does not seem to be a bad seat in the house either. We sat on the right side towards the center. There was a good view of the stage and we were not obstructed in any way. I would definitely come back to this venue if another artist I enjoyed came to town! Also....about a block away we parked at a city garage...for free. It was a bit of a pain getting out but I think it was worth it. read more

This was a wonderful theatre to visit. This theatre evokes a grandeur that is not necessarily seen in other parts of this small city - therefore, it's quite a welcome surprise. The space is ornate without being gaudy. I saw the non-equity tour of Kinky Boots here, and it was fantastic. I sat at the side of the balcony, toward the front of it, and the sight lines were clear. Overall, it seems like the views are pretty decent, even if you're not in the orchestra section, more than you can say for some theatres. The people working at the concession stand were a bit unfriendly, but not enough to move this rating below 5 stars :) read more

Having never been here before, I was very impressed at how big it felt despite being confined to a relatively small lot. The lobby was very crowded but we were able to get through quickly. There is not a lot of signage to help get you to where your seats are, but I very carefully chose my seats when I purchased them and studied the seating chart well enough to know where I was going. Getting to the correct balcony was challenging, but in no way bothersome. In fact, I just got to see more of this beautiful facility, so I am not complaining. The show was good and there doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. It was uncomfortably warm inside when we arrived, but it cooled off by the second act. Concessions are expectedly pricey. At intermission I got a whiskey sour (10 oz) and two boxes of candy that ran me a total of $17. Again, when you go to a place like this, you should expect to pay a bit more than you would other places. Just part of the experience. Finally, there were bathrooms on seemingly every floor/balcony and the bathroom I visited on the second floor had several urinals and three sit down stalls plus a handicapped stall. The most gorgeous venue in South Bend! If you want to get a little more fancy and adventurous for a night out on the town, the Morris is worth the effort. They frequently have popular shows and concerts here. The venue is just beautiful and a must-see. Arrive a little early so that you can go upstairs to see the cathedral ceiling and have some opportunities to take photos. We were here to see The Phantom of the Opera, and it did not disappoint. We sat in the main lower level, row R, aisle 2, seats 5 & 6, and had an excellent view. The lines were way too long to be able to get a drink during intermission or beforehand, so that is the only negative thing I have to say. We wanted to do this but we would have missed the show even getting in the line immediately. It was a little crazy and crowded for the number of people exiting or going out during intermission at the venus. read more

Phantom of the Opera is in town until 4/8/18 y'all!!!!! Go get a ticket if you haven't!!! The show is a brand new production and it is AMAZING! Beautiful chandelier, pyrotechnics, gun shots, and tears. The music moves you and the casts are wonderful!!! We had an amazing night! We donated to acquire some of the props!! They give back stage tours too for donation!!! We also bought t-shirts!!! I saw lot of kids dressed up as Phantom and Christine, it was exciting!!! Don't miss it! read more

We went here last night to see Jay Leno and really enjoyed it. The venue is absolutely gorgeous and it had good acoustics of course it was stand up comedy so probably not the best test bed. The huge plus is the ample parking within walking distance which makes it super easy to get in and out. read more

This place is great! Good entertainment, Great shows, fantastic ushers, not to be able to seat in the entire place. The seats are a bit uncomfortable and too close together. But that is to be expected from a theater that is 100 years old. The prices On tickets seem to be a little excessive but that is not their fault, seems like the Acts that come in there Are trying to price out the average person. The Morrison is a great historic venue to see a show; however, we were disappointed in the Granada upgrade. Don't bother. For $20 extra per person, you get a parking voucher, coat check, and entrance to the VIP lounge with one free drink. The space was elegant. The wine average. The constant flow of non-VIP people to the bathroom obnoxious and distracting. There is nothing special or private about the space. Drink prices were $8 for wine and house liquor. They offered a Chex mix snack for free and you could buy popcorn or other movie theater candy. Definitely need to offer a better menu. We were hungry and hoping to buy some appetizers. read more

An amazing venue, seriously not a bad seat in the house. Except for the fact that the seats are designed for a human with an ass the size of a nine year old child with no legs, this is an amazing place to see any show. My wife and I recently attended the Broadway musical Las Miserables. Before the intermission, my legs were cramping, and my knees seriously bruised by the seat in front of me. The portly girl in the next seat was halfway on my lap, with neither of us able to move. The sound was crystal clear, the venue classy and the drinks very reasonable. Just be prepared for close contact, combat seating. read more

We came here for the first time to see Fluffy (Gabriel Iglesias) and had a blast. Ticket buying process was easy, finding our seat was easy, and the place was nice and clean, even if it was packed. The only thing is that because it's all centered around the one main area, make sure you give yourself time to push through for snacks or a bathroom break if they have a break in the show. We've been checking here for other shows though - love that this place has a good enough reputation to pull in big name people and performers so close to home! read more

When you live in a city like South Bend, Indiana, you never know what to expect when you hear the expression "downtown revitalization." The cynic in me always wants to assume every instance of "revitalization" includes a heavy dose of gentrification, whether that means pushing out poor people or inviting non-poor people in. Even sadder than massive, well funded gentrification projects are those pet-project festivals and building-specific restorations that fail miserably because they're not well thought out. Thankfully, the Morris Performing Arts Center in Downtown South Bend falls into neither of the traps that I've described. Simply put, it's a beautifully restored old theater that recalls a past, if tragic, hopefulness. South Bend used to be a pretty big deal regionally, and although most of its factories are long shuttered, the Morris Performing Arts Center (originally the Palace Theater) gives a hint as to the grandeur that the city's residents once imagined was in their future. Success didn't last long, but it's not completely depressing to take in a show or concert at this theater. I had the opportunity to see Marcel Marceau here, and the performance was spectacular--and I don't even like mimes. At one point, the power went out. When it was restored after two minutes or so, Marceau continued his act as if nothing had happened. Maybe it's fitting that I saw Marceau perform at the Morris Center toward the end of his life. Like the theater itself, Marceau's physical appearance surprised me. At first, he just didn't look as old as he was. As the act progressed, however, I became acutely aware of his age, and his grace and agility were all the more surprising. read more

The place was really nice, but the ushers were being jerks. The lady in charge of the bathrooms yelled at us and told us we had to leave because the show was starting soon and we would be locked out. I left and sat down, and the show didn't start for another 20 minutes. I had more than enough time, she was rushing me. Almost peed myself during the show because of her. We went to see Nate Bargatze on Friday, February 28, 2020. We could not hear a thing he said. The warm up comedian was also muffled and hard to understand, but we attributed it to his slow speech (trying to be funny?) and not holding the microphone close to his mouth. But when Nate B. took the stage, it was no different. People around us were constantly talking to each other saying, "What did he say?" "What was that?" We could not hear clearly! It was like the sound system was going through a tunnel. After the show, we talked to friends of ours who sat on the other side of the balcony, and they said the same thing. They could not hear him. A few weeks ago we went to see Jerry Seinfeld. We sat in basically the same spot and could hear every word. It was a wasted evening for us. We went home and looked up Nate on Netflix and could finally hear the jokes that he was telling. He's really funny! But someone needs to figure out the sound system and why it was so awful! read more

I saw Elf with some colleagues this last winter and we had an amazing time! The show was interesting and the experience even better. The musical included a lot of controversial differences from the movie, but this only added to the experience. The actors/actresses were great and came together to create a talented cast. One of us received a playbill for the wrong show (SantaLand Diaries instead of Elf). The ten of us had a phenomenal time at the show and still talk about our experience at the Morris PAC today! read more

I've seen several shows at the Morris over the years. Stomp, the Acrobats of China, Jeff Dunham, The Nutcracker... as well as others. It's a little stodgy, but that's to be expected. read more

We had tickets for Ringo Starr and due to a structural integrity issue the building was unusable. We received an email through Vivid saying the venue had changed. Later, we were told we had had the opportunity to receive a refund but it wasn't in the email. We arrived at the venue and it was just a large conference center with metal chairs set out in lines, like a convocation center in a large school. The stage was low and it was impossible to see it at all. It was ridiculous. We paid $230 each for our tickets and we were seated next to a man that paid $100. We just herded in and sat in general vicinities. We left after a few songs and I immediately emailed my displeasure to the Morris Center. The response was that I received an email offering a refund. I did not. I was also told that people who left within the first half hour received a refund. I assume what he meant was those that screamed received a refund. We quietly left and I emailed the appropriate chain, or so I thought. My second email was completely brushed off because I complained that it's unethical to offer anything other than the same or better. The concert should have been canceled. That was the right choice but it wasn't made, I assume, because they didn't want to lose money. Instead, I lost money. A concert entails sight and acoustics. We had neither. I would be ashamed and embarrassed if I had anything to do with this event and I'm saddened my husband's bucket list item was sullied and not achieved. I'll never go to anything at this center. I don't find them upstanding when things go wrong. read more

I've came here on two occassions - Tyga concert & Kevin Hart. It's a nice set up and they really do try to get big acts to come into little ol' South Bend. For a comedy show, it's a nice set up with the balconies and all. But for a concert it's hard to just stay in your seat and not really run into people. All in all, it's a nice place. read more

Morris is an unexpected find in a small city in the midwest. The hall is gorgeous, and could find itself a treasured landmark in any city. I play here quite frequently and am always surprised by how much I enjoy the space. It is ornate and old wordly; it reminds me a bit of a small scale Civic Opera House in Chicago. It's right on the river and has a beautiful front lawn and access to the river walk which is lovely on a warm summer night. I was surprised to like Morris as much as I do! But I do. read more
