I filled up my boat this weekend, and ethanol free unleaded was .80/gallon cheaper than Shilshole! How they can sell for so much less than the competition is a wonder to me (but I'm not complaining!). The staff is great as well; very helpful! THE THORNS: Since they primarily cater to the commercial/workboat/fishing trade, their dock is a bit on the tall side for recreational boaters, making tieups a bit more tricky that places like Morrison's on Lake Union. They also take up very little waterfront width, so they can be tricky to find if you've never been there before. THE VERDICT: When you're taking on 100 - 300 gallons of fuel (or more?) a small difference in price can add up to big savings. Covich Williams sells for significantly less than competing fuel docks in Seattle, making it well worth the effort to find them.

Elliott Bay Marina…read more We stopped by Elliott Bay Marina to get information about docking when we cruise north from Los Angeles to Washington with our motor yacht, @pacificpearlyacht. Ray went into the marina office and had the opportunity to speak with Brice, the harbormaster. He was incredibly nice, welcoming, and very knowledgeable. He took the time to explain the marina layout, guest accommodations, and what to expect seasonally, which immediately made us feel comfortable and confident about arriving by water. The marina itself is beautiful and well positioned, with approximately 1,200 slips and guest accommodations for traveling boats. Brice explained that during the summer months there is a lot of movement with boats coming in and out, and that winter docking is typically manageable as well, even though many owners keep their boats in place due to the colder weather. Overall, it was a very positive and reassuring experience. We're looking forward to our next visit--next time arriving from the water side, which is the plan. Highly recommend Elliott Bay Marina for anyone cruising into Seattle.

Harbormaster and staff helpers are efficient and courteous. Restroom/showers are always wonderfully clean, and the facility boasts a nice laundry facility with two large washers and four dryers. Facility has very good security, and they do a good job of keeping any riff-raff away. There are a couple excellent restaurants (Doc's, Harbor House) literally steps away if you don't feel like eating onboard. THE THORNS: No big slips, so if your yacht is over 45', you may be out of luck. THE VERDICT: Honestly, this facility is about as good as it gets. Transient moorage rates are a titch steep, but for what you're getting, it's a good value. Recommend!

I received notice from the marina office that "all of our fenders were failing and in need of replacement." Actually, one fender was under-inflated. When our boat became dirty, as happens over the winter, the marina asked us to use their preferred yacht detailing company - that company was impossible to get a hold of via phone; basically a sign-up now and cancel later company which, according to their website would have cost more than $1000. A simple hose and scrub brush took care of it. It's a noisy marina and water is rough due to ferry and other traffic.

A first timer to this bay. Met up with a friend whose friend had a 15-foot Alaskan Smoker Craft,…read moreso we all decided to meet up at the boat launch at 6:00 AM on Friday morning. The line going into the boat docking area was super packed! Probably had to wait in line for 20+ boaters to get to the boat launch area before it was our turn. I think it took about 30 minutes or so... Once we were able to get the boat into the water and get going, it was a very scenic and peaceful atmosphere. The views were great, temperature was just right and water was pleasant. When we arrived at our preferred fishing spot, we prepared our bait, tossed in our lines and trolled. After a minute, the fishing pole got the first fish on! My friend reeled in a Chinook Jack. Released it. Then after baiting the first fishing pole and casting, not even a minute later, hooked on another fish. This time it was a Coho, but as the line got closer to the boat, the fish came off. Afterwards, we were able to get both fishing poles set up and ready to go. I was next to get a fish on and reeled in a nice Adult Coho for my first catch of the day! Not long after that, I got hooked on another fish and reeled the second Coho. We trolled around the water for a bit before I got another fish, but lost it 10 feet away from the boat as it came off. I believe we were in the water for 5 hours. During that time, I was able to land 5 out of 7 fish. My friend landed one big Coho out of 4 of his bites. Limited out with 6 fish, so we were happy about that. All in all, it was a decent experience as my first time boat fishing. Learned a lot while enjoying the bites in the water. There were a whole lot of boaters on this day.

Our objective was to see how often and how we would use a boat. After a season, we decided to buy a Cobalt boat. We had stayed in touch with Shane over the last year. Once we decided it was time to move forward, he worked with us to build the boat we wanted. The team at SBC has made it an easy transaction. We just received our new R6 Surf. From Shane in Sales to Tony at SkyLaunch and Tommy the Delivery Captain it has been a great experience. Tommy sent me a library of videos to review prior to delivery and then did the on water boat orientation and walk through. He took me through all the systems and how they worked. In general, SBC sells and services high-end boats. They provide a concierge type experience. There are always staff around to answer questions and help you with any issues. They are definitely a higher-end dealer and it is not the low cost place. However, they provide the service and facilities that goes along with the price. Highly recommended.

Don't sign up for this club. Boats are tired, sparse, and largely unavailable. Break downs on the water. Unavailable boats due to maintenance issues. Surf boat was a joke. (Not a real surf boat) I saw the program deteriorate over 3 years and advise everyone to consider any other alternative.

I have been boating for decades but was without a boat when I learned about Carefree. I thought it…read morewould be fantastic having access to both a sailboat, which is my passion, and the power boats to explore the islands. Things didn't turn out as planned. The sailboat was an old broken down and somewhat unsafe boat. When I brought up the safety issues to the club owner I received no response. The club had a rigger come out to get a bid of fixing the headsail track (which created an unsafe situation on its own) only to find that the rigger wouldn't do the job unless other safety issues were addressed. They weren't. The power cruisers constantly had maintenance issues that went unfixed for most of the summer boating season. They also had safety issues like the VHF radio not working (that's how you contact the Coast Guard in the event of an emergency) and the depth meter not working. I took friends out on a power boat only to find that the metal rail holding the seat back in place was snapped in two and had a very sharp edge that could have easily cut someone. Even the clubs own dock staff was frustrated as they took the brunt of the members complaints when they could do nothing about the problems. I have friends who are still members (I am not) who regularly tell me that the problems continue and that they are thinking of quitting. For me, it turned out to be a complete waste of money. I am now looking for a sailboat to buy. I will then really be carefree!
