It's hilarious and comforting to read the numerous reviews by others who experience rudeness here. I worked in customer service throughout college and no matter how I felt I always treated customers like royalty or at the very least with decency, not because I had to do so, but because it felt like the right thing to do. Treat people kindly. Be courteous. Golden rule. You never know whose day you can be making (or ruining). You know. I won't say much else. The other reviews say plenty. Open 24 hours, it's nice to know you can pick up any grocery item at any time. They have a nice selection of prepared food and bakery. Prices are a bit higher compared to Trader Joe's. read more

Do not buy anything from this store. Not only have they sold me products past their expiration date, but they sold me a cookie that was so stale that my friends and I used it as a frisbee and it didn't even break. The staff are also dismissive and rude. Please don't risk the food poisoning and go to any other supermarket. They overcharge too so check you receipts. Some of the worst customer service I've had at a supermarket. The cashier treated my groceries like trash, just dumping them aside, not caring if sushi was upside down, etc. kept asking if I needed a bag after I told him I didn't and seeing that I had my own bags, because he was just going through repetitive motions. Then got followed outside because I took the cart to my car, which was parked right outside. Look I know it's NYC, but I just spent 200 and I have 3 bags and a giant goddamn Orchid I bought for my mother's birthday. Where the heck am I running off too with this cart. Then I explained to the gentleman that I was parked right there and he still looked at me like I had a dick growing out of my forehead. Jfc, teach your staff some customer service. Notice the chicken packaging is always inflated, this means the meat changed temperatures enough for the gasses to rise. The prices you charge reflect quality yet your meat is always bad. Fix your refrigerators!!! read more

The staff are rude. The fresh food is stale. The bakery products are stale and have been sitting out for too long.

I stopped going here a regular basis and only go when there are no other options (late at night). The prices are outrageously high on everything! Produce is not fresh. Just go across the street to the health food/organic grocery and you'll get better quality produce and other items at a reasonable price. Unfortunately today i didn't have milk for my coffee so I went in and to my delight found the almond milk on sale - for $3.99. Yep on sale for a $3.00 savings! When I got home and looked at my receipt, they charged 19 cents for a reusable bag with a hole in it! That's it! Never again stepping into this store! read more

I cannot get over how unprofessional some of the cashiers are. They don't even greet you when you walk up. Then they scan the items and just stare at you. How about telling me what my total is so I don't have to lean over your counter? Most of them will not help you pack your bags in an effort to speed up the line. Terrible customer service on the part of the manager! Went in to exchange a damaged item (didn't realize it was damaged until I took it out of the bag at home, couldn't return same day for exchange). Was told by the clerk I couldn't exchange it, she contacted the manager who accused me of damaging it, said it wouldn't have been on the shelf as damaged, and said I had to pay for another one!! Outrageous! Meanwhile, I witnessed someone walk into the store and walk out with a bag of fresh fruit and veggies without paying---and I'm accused of damaging an item! Btw, the item was part of a six-pack of tonic water cans---she accused me of dropping of smashing it on the ground...seriously!!!?? Horrible customer service (most of the other clerks and employees are very nice, but the manager is horrible!!). This is why I now go to Trader Joe's, cheaper and sooo much nicer!! read more

Hey, for a NYC supermarket it's not all that bad. Sure, the aisles are tight and with limited space as with most supermarkets in Manhattan product is squeezed into every crevice. Yet, it seems this market is laid out nicely, very clean and bright, and stocked with the basics, organic, and some upscale items mixed in. The produce section was also very fresh. This supermarket has a very modern feel to it and well lit. Overall reasonable prices too. Not too shabby. read more

I have visited half a dozen local markets and have used Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods delivery. I have decided to make Morton's my grocery staple. Presentation is everything here. The produce and meats are always in stellar condition. The whole store is neat and clean. The place is tidy and the shelves are always stocked. You can find a few exotic products from other countries here, like Sirracha. I come here because it is a dependable maeket where I can find all my kitchen needs in one location...meat, fish, produce, kitchen supplies, dairy..all the top ingredients you need to cook up a New York quality meal. I love that they have 4 types of salmon! What I love most about this location is they curated my favorite olive oil, which I have been searching all over New York for, a day after I asked about it. They really mean it when they say they will get what you need...my oil is made only in California. Delivery is $3.99. $0 if your bill is over $100. I stopped using other delivery services because I can picky own groceries, and delivery is less expensive. read more

Part of me wants to give them 1 star just to keep this place from getting crowded. But here we go I'm from California where there's normal, large, hygienic supermarkets so I was shocked at the grocery stores in Manhattan. They are disgusting. Going to Fairways, citerellas, Zabars, etc. feels like a battle mission. Know exactly what you want and get in and out as fast as possible while navigating crowds of people in cramped aisles spilling with product in a bullshit boho ADHD presentation and stored in an unhygienic mess. I can't find produce that isn't disgusting, or even ice cream that tastes like it hasn't been melted and re-frozen. And on top of that it's insanely expensive. It's a nightmare. Enter Morton Williams... I happened to walk by over the weekend and thought "hey, that looks like a normal grocery store." I went inside and to my utter shock, Yes, it WAS a normal grocery store. The produce section was large, tons of walking space, and best of all NO PEOPLE. The prices were also less than the above mentioned markets. I couldn't believe it. Then I went downstairs... and yes, aisles and aisles of immaculately organized and stocked food. No crowded artisanal ADHD display bullshit. Today I had a little problem with a delivery order so I called the store and spoke with Delilah! She was so wonderful and helped me pick out a cake from the bakery for my father's 91st birthday and get it delivered to him with ice cream and candles! Thank you Delilah! He ate songs loved it all! I bought pudding from here. the day after i noticed the expiration date was a week before. I took it back and looked on the shelves and all the puddings had same old expiration date. Instead of apologizing and giving me the right one they said they cant refund me because i did not have the receipt. i gave them the pudding back and told them i would never shop here again. I should have known better .these are the same people who were taken to court for putting in an illegal heater that could have caused a fire or gas explosion and harmed all who live in the building above. they were taken to court and lost their case. i see they are still trying to poison people. i will never shop here even again. read more

Eh, this store is okay. They have the essentials of any grocery store and it's convenient in a pinch, but nothing to write home about. The store is okay sized and their produce department is solid. However the meat department is really lacking. There's nowhere near enough selection in the butcher case compared to a place like Fairway. I find Morton William's prices to be a little on the high side compared to a place like Fairway, for just about the same quality. My one huge gripe is that I have run into a number of items that aren't price marked. It seems silly to buy produce and most regular groceries here when right outside is a fruit cart selling the same Driscoll strawberries for $2 instead of $6. Also, with Target just opening up on 70th and 3rd, it makes more sense to go there for regular grocery items since it's 40 percent of the prices at Morton Williams. read more

I like this supermarket. It seems kind of small inside (I grew up in the burbs) But actually it has everything you generally can imagine in a grocery store. The market is pleasantly clean and organized. For a small space, I have never felt too tightened by the store, or felt as if I was bumping into so many people, which is good. I feel like whenever I go to H-marts in the burbs I bump into everyone. I am not a picky grocery shopper and I only get the staple goods. They got all that stuff here so I am happy. I don't have to go to costco or fairway to be satisfied. This place has reasonable prices for most of their stuff. The only competition they realistically have for me are the fruit stands around the block. A lot cheaper than their fruits. Great thing about it is it's 24 hours. You were out all day and need to get some groceries at 10pm? You got em right here. I go here every time I need to buy groceries. And I will go here the next time I need to buy groceries. read more

When I moved into my apartment I was so happy there was a super market just two blocks away. I have been a few times but I haven't done my full shopping here (I do most of it on Long Island and bring it back to the city). I usually stop in for one or two things. They do not have much of a selection of vegetables and the isles are super tiny but I dealt with it because it was close and convenient. Well not anymore!!!! Last time I went there I went in for a red onion and there was MOUSE!!! It ran right from the seafood section to the bakery!!!!!!!!! I almost died. When I saw that I took the red onion and ran to the check out because I had to get out of there. When I got home and cut into my red onion it was completely rotten and unsalvageable. I will not be going back to this super market. Mice running across the floor by food especially the bakery items is so unsanitary! I know we are in NYC but seriously this is too much. read more

This store is beautiful, clean and well-stocked. I'm writing this review because an employee went out of his way to help me, which I've never experienced before in a NYC supermarket. I guess I looked a little confused since it was my first time there. He came up to me, asked me if I needed help finding something, and when he wasn't sure exactly where it was he found another employee who could help and lead me to it. Thank you!! I really appreciated that. They have a lot more variety of items in stock than I expected. I was able to buy most of the items on my shopping list. The only items I didn't buy were due to the prices, not lack of availability. read more

Repeated novice mistakes. Don't even bother getting seafood here. They must have sprayed inside the display cases with whatever cleaning fluid they use, as everything we got, even from opposite ends of the display, smelled and tasted like ammonia. We had to return everything, and they gave us a hard time about it. Yesterday, we went to get some food from their deli area. The two guys behind the counter were exceedingly rude. The one helping the elderly lady in front of me wouldn't even listen to her order, and needed to repeatedly ask what she wanted. The other guy would start talking to his friend while another customer was mid-sentence telling him an order! Mid sentence! Right after I paid, I realized they charged me too much for my deli item. Too late. Not worth waiting for a manager to fix it. The setup looks great, the produce is fresh, but this place goes out of its way to deliver a terrible customer experience. The worst customer service of any supermarket in the city. Certainly for one that claims it is "high end". A rude manager who told me to "move" when I was looking for something, cashiers who told me to move my basket around the corner to the exit while I was in the middle of checking out (WTF?!!) combined with a general disdain for their customers. We had a wonderful experience ordering online a few days ago & getting groceries delivered. The delivery person was especially helpful!! But today at 2:30 my Mom visited the 1331 1st Ave store and was less than impressed by the poor customer service when she asked 2 staff people for assistance and they told her to just keep looking! Then the cashier was rude and threw food down the belt, not taking care for bruising or crushing items. I guess we'll get groceries elsewhere while we have to be in NY for health reasons. read more

There are a few times that I hear this person speak to other employee in a very degrading, Belittling, condescending ways. This store has sold me expired soup,(Progresso) stale cereal ( Kellogg's corn flakes, Raisin brand) dirty milk containers (cartons or plastic). Their prepared food has no flavor, it sucks for the price. There is a service young woman from the daily that tries to talk in slang, when see gives you your order she never says thank you, she stares at you instead, oh she also never says next. She just looks up or away, you have to ask her. What a joke The cashiers are great. Everyone else in the store act like their not working in public. I walked out of there last night because one guy was slowly stacking prepared foods and the other guy was waiting in the other customer. Tonight I was foolish enough to go back. There was a line at the deli counter and when asked why he didn't and for more help, the deli worker replied, "The last two people who asked for help got fired." So we waited and finally another worker showed up and waited on the man behind me. Then another employee came to the counter and told the man helping me that he had to go outside to get the cakes. He asked, "Who said so?" She told him the owner of the store said so. So he put down the cheese he was going to slice for me and went to get the cakes. I left the store. They get one star for their cashiers who get the job done, and some have been very helpful to me. Otherwise, everything is way overpriced for the area, and half the perishables I picked off the shelf today were expired. Store isn't clean. Baskets are downright filthy. They have signs at the entrance saying all unvaccinated people must wear masks, meanwhile 99% of the non-cashier employees aren't wearing them while simultaneously saying to each other that they "don't trust" the vaccine and "ain't gonna get it." read more

I've seen more food stocked in a 3rd world country. Good luck finding what you need ever. My favorite is trying to navigate the aisles when their filled to the brim with boxes while I watch the employees just chillin on their phones. Don't bother asking anybody a question unless you want to be made to feel like an idiot. The piss poor attitudes of the cashiers, minus a few, is the real gem of this location. God forbid they stop yelling jokes at each other to actually focus on you. Wait for it wait for it.....even better. I get to go back again! Because it's New York and you don't have a choice! In my opinion this is one of the worst grocery stores in the upper east side. Being in manhattan for years I'm kind of used with the big crowds, big lines, trash everywhere and bad cleaningness and tiny spaces to move around in between aisles but this Morton Williams makes shopping a nightmare. EVERYTHING is mislabeled and the price is always a surprise. They have entire shelves with simply no label, like there bacon section with like 20 different types of it but no label to help us choose. It's just really annoying and frustrating to have to pick up items not knowing the price or worse thinking it's something else. Morton Williams is not a budget store either so I really don't understand why it's so hard for them to make the shopping experience at least honest and transparent read more
