While we were waiting, something happened that left a bad impression. Another couple walked up without a reservation, and I overheard the hostess tell them, "Give me five minutes and we can squeeze you in." That was frustrating because we had already been waiting for a long time without being offered the same accommodation. Once we were finally seated, another couple who had a reservation at the same time as us was also seated. However, the couple who had arrived without a reservation received their food and service before we did. Even our waiter Amanda seemed to realize something wasn't right. After overhearing my boyfriend and me discussing the situation, she came over and apologized. While I appreciated the apology, the experience had already left us feeling overlooked. Another waitress also passed over our table before we were helped. To make matters worse, one of the main reasons we came was to enjoy the sunset over the water. Unfortunately, we couldn't even see it because large plastic coverings around the patio blocked the view. That was incredibly disappointing, especially after waiting so long to be seated. From my perspective, the way we were treated felt unfair, and it left me questioning whether we were treated differently because of the color of our skin. I can't say for certain that was the reason, but that's how the experience made us feel. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a romantic evening ended on a disappointing note.

The bartender man was the highlight of the entire experience. He was knowledgeable and friendly. He made my son a mocktail drink. It was the perfect treat for the hot summer evening.

The staff is great and most have been there for a long time, which means that they have good management. They have clean restrooms in the back of the restaurant, and have an outdoor patio for when the weather is just right. They do not have a large enough parking lot for the capacity of the restaurant, so on busy nights many have to park in the surrounding parking areas to get a parking spot. This is where you'll find the best Mexican food in the Southport-Oak Island area. There really isn't any competition!

However, this time we decided to go with trying some place new in Sorella Pizza & Pasta (I would have preferred a pasta/meal from here but house ruled pizza, I go with the flow). Choices were made with the Hawaiian Punch 16" pizza (ham, pineapple, bacon, shredded mozzarella, tomato sauce from online menu) and the Holden Beach Hammer 16" pizza (online menu described as their "everything" with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, peppers, onions, black olives, tomato sauce). I can understand that Saturday arrival can be a busy day for restaurants doing delivery and it was explained that it would take a long while. But it was at least an hour and half or more, and the house was getting restless. The delivery person apologized for the long wait time and we appreciated that. When we opened up the two pizzas, first of all noticed they were not hot. Again, there were a lot of deliveries I am guessing but it definitely was not hot and with it being just down the road a bit, a bit disappointing. The Hawaiian Punch pizza was the one that did not really meet everyone's expectations. The crust, while thin, seemed to be a bit underdone. If I get a thin crust pizza, I do expect it to be crispy as well. Also the toppings were a bit underwhelming as well but I found the taste adequate for being hungry, I had a couple of slices. The Holden Beach Hammer pizza was more of a rectangular pizza in appearance and the crust was significantly thicker and more doughy (personally, not my favorite type of pizza crust). The toppings seemed OK but not over generous for what was described, however tasted adequate again. It may be chalked up to a very busy Saturday arrival day time, but I feel this delivery pizza experience was more around an "OK" one if anything. I am hoping to try Sorella in the future where I can get one of the Italian pasta or meal menu selections to see how they do with those.
