My, Yelp Elite, sister Devon E made the correct observation this year during our annual family beach trip, that I had not updated my review for Pepperoni Grill in a long long time. In fact, my review was nearly 10 years old! Being that we come here at least once every year, it's high time to state what the restaurant is now, versus what is used to be. My rating hasn't changed, but the place has significantly. As Oak Island has grown, the economy has changed, and a pandemic has come and gone, there have been necessary changes here. There is no longer a frequent shopper program rewarding those who come often, much to my Dad's dismay who spends half his time on OKI. There is no longer any indoor seating. The shift overall has gone almost exclusively to take-out. It makes sense. This is every family's favorite place to order pizza on the island, and it's not close. During peak season and dinner hours, expect to wait 1-2 hours for your order to be completed, so plan ahead. They churn out pizzas as fast as they can and it still isn't fast enough. If you want fast, order from one of the chains... but know, this is the best available pizza shop. They're doing the best they can. The prices are in line with just about any other pizza place I have been to lately that isn't a major chain. The quality of the pizza is the best in the area, but probably not close to the best you have ever had. It's solid pizza, made locally, serving the needs of beach goers everywhere. At lunch, there's a two slice and drink special. There are certain italian meals on special on certain days. The garlic knots are pretty darn good. All and all, manage your expectations, and you won't be let down. Be patient enough to wait, and be rewarded with a better pizza. I will continue to be a regular customer when I'm around OKI. read more

Visiting family on the island, we found ourselves in search for something warm and delicious to satisfy our dietary needs for the night. With little consideration we found our way to the pepperoni grill and thank goodness we did. This little pizza house on the beach is the only place to get food on the island and with good reason.... Nobody else can compete. I've had the luxury of stopping in a few times over the years and it's always a favorite for my family and I. The ambiance? Quaint. Their chicken parm? Phenomenal. Their individual slices of pizza are some of the best I've had since moving out of my hometown in New Jersey. read more

There are two entrances... one for dining in and another for carry out. Tons of people were carrying out food. Perfect for the beach. Wide variety on menu - pizza, subs, Stromboli, calzones, wings, pasta, salads, etc! Tons of options. If you dine in you will get complimentary garlic knots that are insanely delicious! Like you will want to lick the little boat they come in. We ordered BBQ chicken pizza and a cheesesteak with fried onions and no bread. The cheesesteak was just meh. Wouldn't recommend. The pizza was fantastic- highly recommend. Get as many flavor combos as you can. Super thin crust and chewy. The employees are super nice and friendly. We got there right when they opened and were greeted in a very friendly way. The service was top notch. The lunch special which is two slices of pizza and a soda for eight dollars is one heck of a deal! The pizza was great and piping hot! Every order comes with a side of garlic knots, which were hot and fresh! I ordered the eggplant Parmesan and the serving size was huge. It was tasty and there were plenty for leftovers. It wasn't quite warm enough to sit outside in the ocean breeze, and there's no indoor seating, but taking it to go worked out just fine. We were only on Oak Island for a week and this is the third (4th, if you include the pizza and sodas the boys got while out one day). We have gotten their pizza which is awesome and their GF crust is 10 out of 10 and now we had wings and Stromboli. The wings were decent (mild, bbq and honey mustard) but nothing special. The mild are super mild to the point of not having much taste. The Stromboli was good. Got the original and the kickin chicken for Stromboli and while it was good and tasty it seemed like it could have been cooked a bit longer. Still doughy and hard to eat. All in all we are glad we found this place because we ate here 3 times over the course of the 7 days we were in town so...that says something. We enjoyed the large hand tossed pepperoni pizza with extra pepperonis, it was delicious. It was hot and stayed hot throughout our 10min golf cart ride. If you're looking for pizza, this is a good stop. They have a outside window for to go orders and pickup, with tables for them those who are waiting. We also ordered green bell peppers and bacon pizza, spaghetti meatballs with soupy tomato sauce and the same with eggplant parmesan very watery tomato sauce. Crust was stiff and burnt tasting, cumulatively there was not much meat on the pizza at all, and the veggies were lackluster. I've probably had frozen pizzas that were on par or even better. Every time I come to OKI, I know I am going to get pizza and other delicious Italian treats from Pepperoni Grill, sometimes I go more than once! My friends and I coined our common group phrase of "snack pizza" to justify ordering pizza from Pepperoni Grill knowing dinner was only a couple hours away as it's yummy. Who doesn't always want good pizza? My extended family from NY comes down every summer for a week to OKI and they always want to order take out from here on the first night they arrive. The best part is they are notorious for over ordering so we have lots of left overs (their pizza holds up great hot or cold the next day) and they get some of everything. We got pizzas, salads, subs, wings, and their famous garlic knots. Dude the garlic knots are a MUST order whatever you are getting. They are soft, buttery, and so garlicky. There's always a good amount of garlic sauce at the bottom of the pan for extra pizza crust dipping . Their pizzas are consistently delicious and well prepared. Nice and cheesy and they never skimp on toppings. I've enjoyed some of their speciality pizzas as well as classic combos. So happy to have a good pizza option on the island. As the take out boxes says "delicious pizza." Additionally, I am impressed by their salads. Unlike some places where it's like just lettuce, theirs are full of fresh veggies and an appreciated roughage to offset all the carbs a bit. The wings are solid, not the best but they are a pizza joint after all. We got both the chicken and eggplant Parmesan subs. These were good looking subs. The bread was nicely toasted and you could see the nice baked marks on the cheese. Yum. A great local joint, run by a very friendly staff. Prices are good and the food is even better. read more

Pepperoni Grill sits right across from the beach. It offers a variety of pizzas, salads, sandwiches, stromboli, and calzones. While it's not on the menu, they do offer a pizza crust that is gluten-free. It's a medium-sized crust that is thin and crispy. I quite enjoyed it! My hubby ordered the "Double, Double Stromboli". The dish was the perfect size for sharing, and was stuffed full of melted cheese and pepperoni. He was very impressed with it! We ordered at the counter, and our food was brought to our table outside. We enjoyed the company of a friendly cat and a gorgeous view while we waited on our food to be prepared.
