I've been lucky enough to call Mosaic home for two years now! I've lived LA for almost four years and it took me awhile to find a church that felt like Home. The people here are genuine, caring and they love Jesus. The messages and worship are what got in me the door but the community is what really made feel like i was a part of a family. From Pastor Erwin down to the greeters at the front door you can tell everyone is focused on making you feel like you belong. I have met some of the most impressive, selfless people while serving in this community. There is always something going on, some way to get involved, and some one to meet that genuinely cares. It really has been wonderful seeing how many people are willing to give up their time to join a team and be a part of the community. I have found life here. First time visitor, I attend Oasis Church. My Roomate is a member of Mosaic so I wanted to come to service since I've heard nothing but great things. I pulled into the parking lot this morning for the 11am service and a girl was busy on her phone texting while she was speaking with me (rude). I stated that this was my first time visiting, I can tell that she wasn't listening because she says well the lot is full but you can go park in our parking structure it's only 3 mins away. Well, if she was paying attention, I stated that this is my FIRST TIME VISITING, so I wouldn't know where the parking structure is located. So I say, well where is the lot at I never been here before she says oh just pull out make a right you'll see it, it's easy. Hmmmmmmmm well for someone who is just visiting I would have expected you say hi welcome thanks for coming we have no parking but here is the directions to get to our parking structure. I said politely, thanks I don't have on the right shoes to walk maybe I'll come back another Sunday. She says ok. As I begin to pull out of the parking lot I see an empty space. I ask another parking volunteer can I park here, he says it's only for first time visitors. I say, I stated that when I first pulled in that I was a first time visitor to the young lady. He calls on the walkie to another parking volunteer he mentions me and my car, she responds back saying she didn't know (maybe is she wasn't texting on her phone she would have been aware of what I was saying). Then a guy in a Porsche yells out the window saying he's been waiting forever for a parking spot and demanded the spot( I'm pretty sure he wasn't a first time visitor, he seemed as if he was entitled to the spot). Remember the guy told me that spot was for first time visitors. At this point, I'm in shocked that all of this is going on just to park. I'm trying to go and enjoy service! So, I left. I even drove around and tried to find this parking structure but didn't have any luck nor could I find any street parking. I go off of vibes and energy and the energy this morning for the 11am service in the parking lot with the volunteers was off. Maybe I will plan another visit and come 30-40 mins early so I can make sure I won't have a parking issue. So much for feeling welcomed! read more

Been here a few times. Loved the energy in the beginning, and I LOVE the preacher. What I don't like is the slight taste of fake that I have in my mouth when I leave. Again, this is not from the minister. He's incredible, and worthy of a review of his own. I also don't like finding out that a church is affiliated with a denomination without them ever talking about it or advertising it. Feels fake again.....Mosaic is part of the Southern Baptist Convention. Feels like they're trying to hide true beliefs by ignoring that fact.....or perhaps they're leading a revolution from within and should be commended. Not really sure. read more

When you find a place like Mosaic you know you are home. You know you are home because you can feel the love of Jesus EVERYWHERE!!! From the parking team greeting you to the people who meet you on the front patio, to the fact that they provide coffee and tea for free just to make you feel comfortable and also provide a barrier between you an others should you feel a bit nervous because you have been hurt by "church people" in the past. I am 37 years old, and it bring so much joy to my heart to see so many young people serving God and others. There are no words. I love the feeling of a community gathering to learn how to be better human beings, how to love well those around them and I feel like Mosaic really strives for this. I actually LOOK FORWARD to Sundays and seeing everyone, communing with everyone. I feel like I'm being taught small lessons of love that will eventually tear down the walls of such a selfish city so that the city, the ppl w/in the city will come to understand that we're IN this life together so we should DO this life together. I love Mosaic. This is my community and I have been a part for over 8 years now. I have changed completely and have become a more loving person here. I hope that others have that experience. I love bringing friends and colleagues. They always tell me that it's so positive and doesn't feel like "church" even though it is! I have met the most incredible people I have ever known at the church and there is no one that communicates the message of Jesus like Erwin McManus - I IMPLORE you to come and see for yourself!! God knows I'm not a church person, but as a resident of this neighborhood, this place is beyond annoying on Sundays. Loud, unavoidable music, and crowds that block the sidewalks. Tonight, as I walked to the gym, I witnessed these crowds not part for an elderly woman who must've been over 70. These "people of God" stood around with Solo cups in their hands, watching a game of corn hole, and could not be bothered to not block the sidewalk, forcing the elderly woman to pass in the street! A lane in which cars drive! Because they had to watch cornhole! It truly made me sick, and when I told a herd of them to move it, they were quite put out! You stand in the street then, if it's not such a big deal. I pay taxes for the sidewalks. Something tells me this place does not. I wonder if there's some law they're breaking by blocking the sidewalk. For people of God, this group seems completely self-centered, not counting of course the cups of lemonade they try to hand out to lure people in. So self-involved, self-interested and rude. And the noise! It's brutal and unnecessary. If they moved it to the side facing La Brea it might be more palatable, Might be. Judging the crowd as I try to weave through them as they impede my life, every other post has it right. 20 something hipsters all trying to look cool on the scene. Cornhole. Cool. Take that for what you will. There's a disconnect there. To church: You do not own the sidewalk, and you need to clear a path for pedestrians to pass safely. Stepping into Hollywood blvd is not safe passage. End of discussion. The music is too loud. Why can't they play inside? So you can attract passersby is not a reasonable answer when three blocks can hear only that music in their homes. I hate this place. Take it inside! It's a church, I get. I don't need to hear it. This place seems non-concerned with anyone but themselves. Is that what people go to church for? Oh, that's right. This place is a money grab where people attempt to look hip. i really really do not like the idea of leaving a comment on yelp for a church, but i just wanted to comment and have to give a fair rating as well as my thoughts after I researched and read all comments below. I'm a PK so I have been going to church all my life where it was like a fam environment where every1 knew each other. I was invited to this church by my friends who found jesus not too long ago. I thought it was diff and kind of cool, but didn't get spiritually fed at all. Found it odd most of congregation do not engage in any type of fellowship before and after. Felt too click-ish. I was just basically hanging out w my friends at "church". I went back about 3-4x more and basically got the same experience so I stopped going. But I did like the idea of being able to go in and out and not having to talk to anyone and go unnoticed. As I was looking for churches to check out on yelp, something compelled me to research all the popular pastors in LA. What I found on Erwin's quotes, teachings & theories was almost shocking. I even texted one of my friend the quote where Erwin says he wants to destroy Christianity and my friend responded with "Think about it tho, he's right Christians give Jesus a bad name.... Not all, but a lot of Christians are the reason why people turn away from faith". - This was interesting because there's no facts to prove this statement at all. True Christians (who have accepted and received Jesus as their Lord & savior) will not turn away from faith / Jesus simply because of bad experience with other (fake?) christians. This church also reminds me of someone like Joel Osteen. He preaches what his demographic wants to hear, which isn't the worst thing if you're a noob. ;) I hope to God that I am wrong about Erwin and the church, but his quotes & followers are hard to deny. Don't get me wrong, they do a lot of positive things, but the main reason why we go to church is to get spiritually fed the truth - word of God, right? I like the fact that this church is noob / non christian friendly, but whats the point of church if you're not saving people with salvation. Checked this church out a few times. This church is right at Hollywood and La Brea in Hollywood. When I first attended, I remember it was so dark and foggy from the fog machines that I could barely find a seat. The music is loud (very loud!). I'm sure the neighboring apartments can hear every word which is good to get the word of God out but they still need to be good neighbors. The preaching is pretty solid and they do a good job at explaining how to get involved (the next step). I filled out a card and someone personally called me which was nice. I attended several weeks (probably 10) as I think you can't really get a feel for a church by only going once or twice. I eventually decided this wasn't the church for me. I feel as if the media presentations, fog lights, music, and spotlights take away from the message and make it a distracting time. But more than that was the people who attend. I felt as if I was at a club where people from "the industry" go to meet one another. During the meet and greet, when I told people I was a teacher at a high school in Watts, they suddenly became disinterested. I felt on the outside of the cool kids club. Overall, I know this church does a lot of good for a lot of people. It just wasn't for me but that doesn't mean it's a bad church. I love what they're doing and they're bringing the gospel to Hollywood and I admire them for that. I wish them the best. read more

Everyone at this church is completely insincere. One minute, you meet new people and connect a special bond with them, and the following next two weeks they become nonchalant and act like they've never met you in your entire--that's, of course, if they have an agenda. And what I mean by that is that they become really friendly to try to sell you something, for example like their stupid, expensive camp retrievals or do a pilgrimage only to be asked at the end to donate to the church. If you say no, they become completely annoying by being relentless and not taking no for an answer or ridicule you for not wanting to participate. I would recommend you stay away from this church. read more

I visited Mosaic a few weeks ago and my first few of impressions right off the bat: 1. It's a large concert hall'ish looking facility 2. It's loud, the music literally greets you with a fist to your ears 3. The speaker is very charismatic and rather funny After I acclimated to the size/layout and music, I found a spot and sang along with the rest of the folks and then settled in my chair when the speaker (Erwin M.) got on the stage. When everything is said and done, I wasn't feeling Mosaic as a whole. I don't know if it's cause the preacher kept repeating MOSAIC is not a church and he's not a pastor but some sort of cultural visionary of some sorts (I'm not a big fan of word play and smoke screens - I worked with sales a long time and I got tired of all that), or maybe cause he kept asking people to cough up cash to cover all of next year's expenses but yet we're in a awful economy and on top of that he's wearing very fashionable clothes (I felt maybe he's a bit disconnected - or maybe his church is full of ballars, either case it didn't vibe with me), or perhaps, it's the fact that when everything was said and done and I stopped laughing, I realized a bit later on that I didn't learn much from the sermon. A few of Mosaic's strengths are that it has a great band, people are generally friendly, there's plenty of room for parking, seating is not a problem and the speaker is very entertaining. The bottom line is Mosaic is a great church if you're looking for something non threatening and looking to meet cool hipster people, this church will work well for some and not for others. I've been going to Mosaic, inconsistently, for ten or so years. I'm really surprised to hear some yelp reviewers say that the teachings aren't bible-based. Erwin and Hank are definitely teaching from the Word and none of it is watered down. Delivery is done in a contemporary style and their messages use contemporary analogies, but the teachings are sound. Erwin is a teacher. He is always well prepared, uses a lot of humor, and is impressively insightful. HOWEVER, after joining 3-4 small groups over the years, I have not been able to connect w/people at this church. I've tried a single's group, women's group, groups for bible study...but there's a quality of standoffish-ness in the people I've met. I hate saying that, but that has been my experience. BUT, I go to hear the messages, which are ALWAYS amazing. read more

I've been going to Mosaic for about a month now. I attend both midweek and sunday service. I can't really describe what Mosaic does for me but I know when something feels heavy and not right to me verse light and joyous. I always leave Mosaic like I got my second wind. I feel lighter, happier, and I always leave thinking things about my life, relationships, career, etc that I haven't thought about before or have been avoiding. Regardless of how flashy, bright lighted, concert like, or humorous the sermons are I always get the underlying message. Mosaic is definitely not your grandmas church, but times have changed and if this approach brings in youth and adults from all around to worship on a Sunday morning, let alone a Wednesday night (always a packed house) then they must be doing something right. A lot of the not so great reviews on here tend to be so concerned about the people "hipsters" and what not. I don't really go to church to watch what other people are wearing or how they carry themselves. I go to worship, receive the message, then I go home. read more

Almost walked in today, Sunday. Mosaic staff-security was welcoming as also was the parking lot people. But, I had another commitment this morning and left (semi-lie-excuse). If I do attend a church it would be this church. Maybe I haven't given much of a church (lol) review but believe me when I say I read most of the review here before I "came close" to darkening Masaic's doorstep. I am a believer - I contacted two of the commenters here. They both replied ..a good sign of a healthy (church) community. I know Jesus IS everywhere.. but Hollywood? Loved everything about their Midweek service this Wednesday. Immediately met friendly people who made me feel right at home. The music was amazing! The band apparently just came out with an album on iTunes and these kids are anointed. So much talent... Every speaker/pastor spoke from the heart and gave a great message. Good vibes for sure! I've been going to Mosaic for over a year now and I haven't found a better group of people in Los Angeles. This place truly has a heart for the people that walk through its doors, whether they are first timers or elders. Erwin and Hank are great pastors who love their community and are extremely welcoming. Check out the gathering at 7pm for great worship, people and hey, even coffee on the Hollywood patio. its been quite some time since my last review. I try to be fair, I follow mosaic and their affiliates on social media and even though I do not attend their services I still hope that they share the Way the Truth and the Life (John 14:6) to their attendees. Im not perfect and just because I dont rock out to their music I cant say that people arent transforming or changing their lives and thoughts (Romans 12:2) to complete God's will. One saturday morning as I lay on my couch i opened their youtube and took a listen to 3 of their videos on stream; if the Word is food then I had that hunger for a buffet and waiting to get their grub on but instead I was left still looking for more. The speakers just scratched the surface about what the scriptures really say! Yes God is Love! and easter/resurrection sunday has more than God's love in it! Jesus is Yahweh in the flesh and his death is the sacrifice that ultimately bridges the gap that was created from the first sin and fall of man. We have to accept that gift which ultimately leads to a new US meaning we leave our old life behind and the flesh dies and we crucify it daily (Gal 5:24) read more

Been here a few times. I'm a fan. Not because of the free parking (as opposed to SF churches), not because of the super awesome ambiance and detail in the small things like the pens near the seats to the chat feature on live stream page, and even the beautiful set up in the ladies washroom to freshen up post-gathering. But a fan, because of the energy, the super relevant lessons, and the people. This is a great community that is a place to plug in, serve, and meet good people in LA. There are lots of groups to engage in from families (mini & regular (?) kids) to a hospitality team, production team, traffic... more that I forgot, but there will be a place for you. Be aware that you do have to put yourself out there and be prepared for a different kind of worship gathering. There will be lots of singing, standing, clapping, lights, ... total production. You will find everyone willing to meet you and help you. Some other reviews are right. This isn't a quiet place, but it is respectful, just joyful. Guess there are a lot of us 20-somethings. But that's cool. There are also obviously a lot of young families and older couples and singles. There's so many people so it does feel diverse--just today, I met another lady from Hawaii! And a guy from Pakistan also hung with me as I wandered around! Super friendly people. Give it a try. Fairly certain I'll be back! read more

Attending MOSAIC was the highlight of my weekend while visiting my daughter at UCLA! I loved the entire service... Music, message, vibe .. friendly greeters, stage design, decor - Ya, pretty much everything! I'm still thinking about the Pastors message feeling both encouraged and introspective/challenged...... Years ago my husband & I, along with the loving help and support of many, started and pastored a biblically-based, non-denominational church that didn't match the "conventional churchy mold." ((We had several years of ministry under our belts and my husband graduated with his Masters from a well-respected seminary.)) Despite having tight (normative) theology & abiding by widely held tenets, our delivery was deliberately "different." We strived to purposefully create an atmosphere of authenticity and community that was culturally relevant (exciting, fun, funny, edgy) to draw in all types of attendees especially those who didn't attend church -and, we did - (Often not without Nay-Sayers , who questioned our unique delivery style). Long story short, I see many of our God-planted dreams & visions of what we hoped church could be displayed at Mosaic - people aren't just doing church, they are the church. Sometimes such real-ness can be intimidating to those who come from a paradigm of "doing" church. From my experience, many Christian churches create atmospheres rife with convention, where deep reflection and growth aren't fostered, where people attend on Sunday check their lists and move on to the next activity (often ones that are disparate from what the just heard). Personally, I'd rather have no faith, than plastic faith ... What I heard at MOSAIC this past Sunday through worship, and the Pastor led me to believe this church feels likewise--- Don't listen to the controversy brought up by some disgruntled reviewers - go check this church out for yourself- my guess is it might be a great fit! (And let's not forget , Jesus was the most controversial figure in history!!) #InGoodCompany read more

A friend introduced me to this church when I was going through a hard time. As much as the singing and sincerity was over the top, the sermons did have a profound effect at that time. I took what I needed , however some parts of the sermons either wasn't the truth or seemed to be about themselves. Erwin and the team have not found a way to leave their egos' at the door. Often it was about an image or money. I contacted a pastor 4 times to see about using their service for my marriage. They did not reply to a single email. They just clicked the "read" receipts. If a church pronounces it's all about kindness , it isn't very kind behavior to not reply. I contacted another similar church and got a response within 24 hours. It's a shame really that they haven't grasped the fact that it is only when we truly surrender our egos , is the only true path to finding God. read more
