The hallways were quiet, no noise carried in. The beds were soft and cozy. There was plenty of parking in front. The bonus was Hannafords, just a walk behind the hotel for treats and drinks. We enjoyed the walk listening to nothing but the sound of a million crickets. So, go have a weekend getaway to Bennington! The Hampton Inn will treat you like family while you visit.

I checked in two hours past the check-in time and had to wait for half an hour in the lobby before the one staff member working said it would be another hour or so before the room would even be cleaned unless I chose to downgrade. I came back about two hours later and most of the rooms were still being cleaned. I inquired about the pool and they said it was available, but a bit "foggy." I went outside to find a full blown pond. It made the reflecting pool look like a resort. The nice thing about the hotel was that it's within walking distance to everything in town and the room was clean by the time I was actually able to enter.

Peace Be Still served our purposes, providing two nights' comfortable and restful sleep. Easy to find and locate. Nothing fancy, it's an older roadside motel. Blue tarp covering a sizable portion of the roof doesn't inspire confidence upon pulling up to the place, but that didn't cause any problems. As for our room, the plumbing worked, the electricity worked, the AC worked (warm summer season stay), the mini refrigerator worked, and the staff was friendly, personable, and professional. No bugs, no insects, no creepy-crawlies, no smells, no odors, no mold, no mildew. No problems or issues! Rates were reasonable. It's not a five-star facility, or even a four-star, but it is what it is and makes no pretenses about it. If we wanted to be picky and overly critical, there was no microwave in the room, my wife thought the beds were a little too soft (they were okay with me), and she also found the water not to her liking either in taste or smell (it's well water; geeez, remember, you're out in the country! she's a city girl). We checked into a perfectly pointed, simple and clean room that provided a great night's sleep for our weary bodies from traveling over 350 miles that day by car. In peeking out the window later in the day, Betsy was watering all the plants and organizing all the chairs around the pool, making it all look so nice. As it turns out, her family has owned this cute little spot of 20 rooms for almost 50 years, and she does everything from A-Z to keep this little engine running. With severe shortages in the work force around the world, this place has been hit hard just like the rest of us who are in business for ourselves, but there was nothing that told us that she had lacked help. That is because Betsy was filling in all the blanks, making everyone's stay seamless. To go to a place where the owner cares so much so that she in fact, probably is cleaning rooms as well, is rare, so it is a win-win to stay here. You will be treated with kindness and respect, and she will make you feel at home. Betsy also make a great suggestion to dine in town at a new restaurant that just opened called 421 Main. It was a fabulous restaurant, and being from a serious food city like Philadelphia and owning several restaurants of our own in Philly, we had medium expectations - but were blown away by the hospitality of the team that worked there, and by the exceptional food we tried. So if you come to Bennington, remember to not only stay at The Knotty Pine Motel, but eat at 421 Main, one of the best tapas restaurants we have ever eaten in! We have never had a bad experience here before, but this will officially be our last stay. The pool was absolutely disgusting and clearly hadn't been properly maintained in a long time. To make matters worse, our room had a strong, unmistakable smell of urine. It is incredibly disappointing to see a place we used to love go downhill so fast. We will not be back.

They have a pretty large area for walking around with a beautiful view of the mountain and changing leaves. The picnic area and gazebo are very peaceful places to read. Harwood Hill seems to be involved with a lot of local artists, so there are neat treasures scattered across the grounds, the main office has a kiosk of local crafts and pieces of art, and they offer an arts package that gets you a discount at a lot of local attractions and stores.
