We celebrated my sister's birthday by taking a weekend road trip to Eureka and Klamath (we visited the Sequoia Park Zoo, the Redwood Sky Walk located within the Zoo, and the Trees of Mystery). My sister chose to stay at Motel Trees because it is located directly across the street from the Trees of Mystery. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here from the minute we checked in to the day we checked out! Julie, the front desk manager was friendly and knowledgeable. Our accommodations were warm and inviting! Our room was so spacious! My daughter and I each had our own bed and the birthday girl had her own bedroom, which was attached. Both rooms were spotless! The bathroom was spacious as well! Housekeeping came every day to clean our rooms, even though we didn't request the rooms to be cleaned. The beds were very comfortable. We all slept really well! The air there is so clean and fresh! We ate dinner twice during our stay at the Blue Ox Cafe which is located on the property. The food was delicious each time and our server (she was there both nights) was friendly and sweet! We highly recommend staying at Motel Trees for a cozy, quiet, and fun getaway! read more

We were there in 2021, they had just updated all the things!!! It's clean, new granite, tile, mattresses...very comfy! Just in back is a trail through the mile long forest that takes you to hidden beach! Very cool!!! And Paul Bunyan and his Ox Babe at Tresa of Mystery with suspension bridge throughout the treasures was epic!!! read more

It's a cute motel, check in & out was easy, and the woman working the front desk was very friendly. It is an old motel though, and you're in the middle of the woods, so be aware of that. WiFi is hit or miss and there were a few spiders that crept into the room. The bathroom was upgraded though, and I loved all the different themed rooms you could choose from. You're across the street from Trees of Mystery, where Paul Bunyan & Babe the Big Blue Ox are, that was fun to wake up to. The coolest part is the hiking trail right behind the motel, and depending on which one you take, it's a pretty easy, beautiful little hike. There is a restaurant on sight and I wish we would've chosen to eat here because the food looked and smelled so good! We did get a few beers at the bar and that was chill. Beautiful room. Fabulous bathroom and gorgeous pebble stone walk-in shower. Very clean. Comfortable size and lots of room for both my large dogs. Very quiet. Stayed in February and the heat was very quick to warm the room. The manager was wonderful and very informative, especially as to where to take a walk. There is a trail through the woods right to the beach behind the hotel! No established pet area, but the closest grassy area was big enough for a good sniff and very clean. We did not explore the area for more pet relief areas, and this was next to the road but was big enough to not feel uncomfortable with the traffic. The motel was nestled right up into the trees. A little traffic noise, but certainly not enough to disturb you even when you were not resting. Excellent location. There is a nice restaurant right on the premises. Unfortunately, it does not open for breakfast, but we enjoyed a great dinner. They had lovely comfort food options too. The waitress was kind, attentive, and the service was very prompt. Some of these reviewers need to learn the difference between "rude" and "curt". Julie is curt. She tells you what you need to know and that's about it. If you're not a person who demands that employees offer fake smiles and forced conversation, you'll like her. As for the rooms (we rented two), they were an interesting blend of modern renovations and vintage 1970's kitsch. The rooms, baths and beds were clean and the spaces were comfortable. Mini fridge, coffee maker and microwave worked fine...but the beds ARE hard. Also, if temperature control is important to you, check the amenities for the room you're reserving. Some have AC, some don't. Some reviewers mentioned brown water, and this is a thing because it's an old building with old pipes. Just let it run for a minute. Highly recommend the Secret Beach trail too! Overall, I give it 5 stars because it's fine for what it is. A small, classic motel in the middle of nowhere. read more

Motel Trees - Secret Beach, a short 10 minute hike from Motel Trees - Hotels Near Me - Klamath, California

I did my research on-line before making my reservations that being said I found it very enjoyable. I read the restaurant would only be open Thursday to Sunday so I made my plans to include getting food while I did my adventures. Location was perfect since I would be going to the Northern part of the Redwoods, Trees of Mystery and Southern part of the Redwoods. Now I rented a room with pet accommodation but after making the reservations my pet passed away and on arrival when check in it came up so I was asked if I would like to switch rooms to a non-pet room which I excepted and received the lower rate. It's very nice to be offered things even though I wasn't going to ask. The room was better than I expected it was very comfortable and clean. Housekeeping did come by and put clean towels and did clean up while I was out and about. When I did ask question I got a friendly response and very good recommendations and great info on the trail to the beach. In my opinion people need to think about what they are going to be doing and if this little gem in the woods is a good choice for them. For me it was everything I needed and wanted for vacation trip and will visit again. read more

As motels go, this is better than most. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the bathrooms have been beautifully renovated. The only downside is a biggie: the complete lack of food options at reasonable times. On a Monday night, the on-site diner was closed AND would continue be closed the following morning. There were no other walking-distance options. The nearby tiny town of Klamath has only a couple of options, and they were closed by 7PM, meaning a 30-minute drive each way into Crescent City for food. Since this was part of a camping adventure for us, we were able to cobble together a dinner from our camping supplies - but most guests here were left with no options. In the morning we drove to the Log Cabin Diner for a delicious but very expensive breakfast. ($50 for 2 people). Again, the motel itself is delightful, but the location is rough for travelers. Next time I'll just stay in Crescent City. read more

I've stayed here before and honestly it's not too bad if you have a dog or pet. The rooms were okay they were missing lots of good things the windows and rooms were somewhat okay. The owner seems to be the older lady who's in the front. The only reason I've giving this place a 2 is because every time I call they always leave me to state a voicemail and then they answer and it's so annoying and frustrating because I have to repeat myself. This motel is one of the cheaper options we found in the immediate area, and I hoped it would be a cute place to stay overnight on a long road trip. The main bed itself was reasonably comfortable and the room was clean, though a bit shabby (no padding at all under the old brown shag carpet, for example, and the wallpaper mural was fading and torn in places). Unfortunately it was the rest of our experience that was the problem. Broken AC with filters that looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a year (I washed the ones in our room so the fan in the AC unit would work, at least), a broken fridge, a hot and stuffy room, an ancient lumpy cot better described as a medieval torture device, management uninterested in concerns (I asked about the AC not working and was met with a rant about how guests should just sleep with the windows open... okay), brown water (even after letting it run for a while), and a loud talking giant outside the room (Paul Bunyan across the street has a VERY LOUD loudspeaker and constant chatter) first thing in the morning all soured me on this place. Just about as sour as the milk I had put in the apparently broken fridge was in the morning. If you love a hot and stuffy room, don't mind paying for an AC room with no functional AC, don't need to use a cot or the fridge, and don't mind management that will wave away concerns, then you'll probably find this place totally fine. I hope they will fix their appliances and upgrade their cots at the very least so that future travelers will not run into the same issues we did. I'd hoped to find a little gem of a vintage motel, but alas, we won't be staying there again. read more

I stayed at this motel excited to support the local Native American community. I asked the lady at the front desk, having worked there for 20+ years if any of the original Native Americans still lived in the area. She said yes and something like, "They're okay if they mind their business." I was so offended. I said they have every right to be upset with us white people. We took everything from them. She responded, "They need to get over it. It was a long time ago." If it wasn't so late at night I would have found another place to stay. She was awful and ruined my experience. If you care about supporting the local Native Americans in this town this isn't the place to stay. read more

Perfect location, no frills, right across from Trees of Mystery. The rooms were spacious and clean and decorated nicely. Not a great cell signal and very few amenities but that's kind of what we were looking for. There's a secret beach behind the hotel and it's fun to see Paul Revere and Babe the Blue Ox right across the street from your room. BRING FOOD. There's a mini-fridge and microwave in each room. The Forest Cafe is fine but it's only open from Thurs-Sun. The only other places to eat aren't that easy to get to and have odd hours unless you want to drive into Crescent City (which is kind of sketch). read more

Our room was clean, spacious, and reasonably priced. Conveniently located right across Hwy 101 from Trees of Mystery, and the Forest Cafe is right at the end of the motel. A bit of noise from trucks on the 101, but otherwise pretty quiet. Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be any padding under the carpet and the wifi (which was our only connectivity option) was spotty and slow. This motel has been there for over 50 years, I remember going by it as a young child. We were pleasantly surprised when we walked into our room. Spacious, updated, no musty smells like some older places do. They used a pleasant air freshener so it smelled fresh and inviting. Towels fairly thick and soft, bed comfortable. I would suggest they get extra deep pocket sheets as any weight on the bed popped the corners off. Traffic could be heard from the highway which wasn't a surprise do to the proximity to the highway. For what it is it was nice. Only other negative was the host did not smile. She gave the impression she didn't want to be there, like we interrupted whatever she was doing. We checked in around 5:30pm. All in all, we'd stay here again. read more

I love the little rooms with the murals. I feel they make the place unique. The bathroom was redone with a beautiful large shower. I used a roll away because no two bed rooms were available. It was not an awful bed. It wasn't as nice as the bed in the room, of course, it was a rollaway. The coffee made a pot not just one cup. My only problem with our stay was there wasn't a fan or air conditioning. Also, but not their fault, was the cafe next door was closed Tuesday and Wednesday. All the days we were there. read more

This is a great and affordable motel smack in the middle of Redwood National Park. We booked here last minute and were not expecting much for the price. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the room, the cleanliness, and the friendliness of the entire staff. There isn't much in Klamath, except the scenery and that worked for us. Bonus was a 1/2 mile trail to a secluded beach just steps from the motel. Cons were that it is right on the highway (but so is every hotel for miles in both directions), and the bed was a little creaky. Overall though, we were very pleased and will stay again if we are in the area. read more

Clean, comfortable, affordable accommodations here! We had a pleasant stay in Room 7. It was very clean (even the carpet) and included a mini fridge and microwave. The bathroom has been completely updated. There was a small AC unit, but it wasn't warm enough for us to need it. Our Wi-Fi connection was spotty, but the woman in the office said they are in the process of improving the service. Stayed 7/21/22 Avoid staying here. I will list reasons: A) have to book on Paypal B) front office looks nice, but was never open to enter the entire 12 hours we were there. Have to ring bell and grumpy lady talks through a window. Office has post cards, travel books, but I only saw through window C) hard bed D) towels have the soft feeling of steel wool, or a Brillo pad, and about half the size for a towel E) television was blurry on half the channels F) in-room coffee offered is disgusting, they need to upgrade the brand G) the one table in room is too small H) shower head is too low, I am 5 ft 11, and it sprayed, no, dripped into face. Not appropriate height I) low water pressure J) water never got very hot K) toilet flusher was broken, needed extra attempts and jiggling to flush L) While permitting dogs, they are the only place that openly and immediately threatened to call authorities of the dog was left unattended in the room M) the only close place to eat is the Park Cafe, next to hotel. Food there is ok, over-priced, but the place closes at 4pm. So after 4 pm you have no food options within 25 minute drive. Either bring your own food, drive to Crescent City, or try intermittent fasting for the evening. Plan for 2 hours at Trees of Mystery (worth a visit) and keep going. Don't stay here. read more

Terrible. We stayed in the family suite. Upon arrival, there was a joint up against the wall. I have a young child that was crawling towards it and about to grab it. We would have had bigger issues had my child put that in his mouth. This was brought up to the front desk and the lady dismissed it, even saying "how do I know that isn't yours?". Clearly these rooms are not cleaned appropriately and there is absolutely terrible customer service. Run. read more

We were planning to visit Trees of Mystery. We called the hotel with some questions. The lady on the phone was very rude. She told us right away that she does not have time to answer any questions. She said go look at the website. My wife and I were in shock because we gave her no reason to be rude. We thanked her for her time and said we changed our mind about visiting the area and will be taking our family somewhere else. I've driven by the Motel Trees on the 101 many times, and I always wanted to stay there. It's directly across from the classic roadside attraction Trees of Mystery and next door to the Forest Cafe. A last-minute call the day before Labor Day, found me surprised that they had a room available. When I heard the price, I was hesitant--it was so low, but the idea of staying in a little motel in the forest had me saying yes to the room. The lovely woman at the front desk was friendly and efficient and happy to answer my questions. She told us the rooms were being remodeled and gave us a new one. Our room was super! They did a terrific job with their remodeling and updating the space, while still maintaining the charm of a classic forest motel. The bathroom remodel is lovely! The shower (no tub) has a floor that looks like pebbles you would find at the beach nearby. There is a nice fridge, TV, carpet, and a comfy bed. The beamed ceiling is so pretty! But the room is only part of the best reason to stay here. Behind the motel (steps from your door!) is an easy hike through take-your-breath-away trees and ferns to a gorgeous beach. No, you can't get on the Internet with your smartphone--we couldn't use our phones at all. You're enjoying nature! I promise you won't miss it. (There were instructions for how to use your computer for Internet access, but just don't do it.) We liked our stay so much that we plan to adjust our annual trip to end our day in Klamath, California, so we can stay here! read more

I mean, not a bad place to sleep. Fairly clean. I didn't sleep under the covers because I feared bed bugs to be honest. We were driving out in Redwood country and needed a place to stay. We arrived at 10 pm and the front office was closed. Ha! We ran the night bell and after waiting around rang the bell again. Finally, a woman in her pajamas stumbled out and asked: "What do you want" What do we want?? A room?! She was NOT pleased. It was super awkward and it wasn't even that late!! It was 10pm! She was rude. Very rude but in the morning bright as the sun. She is definitely not a night owl! We got room 7 (bald eagle mural!) and it was clean but oh my god...creepy. I could hear the neighbors clearly next door and the window in the bathroom opened to the woods outside. It was like a horror movie scene. I couldn't see out but could hear things moving outside in the woods. Animals is mu guess, or an axe murderer? Not sure.! We went in August and it gets cold in the night and I was freezing. Turn on the heat! I promise you it's the right thing to do. Price was alright, the Trees of Mystery tourist trap and Paul Bunyon statue are nearby and add intrigue to a very strange atmosphere. A cheap, cleanish motel with guaranteed stories with a Pacific Northwest / horror movie feel. Like stepping into a David Lynch dream...or a Twin Peaks episode! read more

Ignore the bad reviews. This was an excellent place to stay! Very, very clean. Everything has been updated. The beds are memory foam and quite comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay. The hike down to Hidden Beach was beautiful, and the beach itself was breathtaking. Borrow one of the hiking sticks leaning against the first bridge. If it's muddy, you'll need it! The path is twisty and goes up and down. It's not a neatly groomed path for a baby stroller, but anyone in reasonable physical condition will be fine. Careful on the beach, because it's easy to twist your ankle on the driftwood and rocks. It's worth the walk. So peaceful. read more

Stayed here for two nights during Covid. On the plus side- room was very clean, which is number one in my book! Both the room and bathroom were spacious. They didn't have two Queen beds available, but offered a "rollaway" bed option. I didn't realize until we checked out that they charge you an additional $20 per night. You could feel every spring in the rollaway bed. My poor daughter woke up so sore each day! The tv didn't work, it was stuck on one channel, but we weren't in the room very long it often so we just gave up trying to fix it. Tips we wish we knew- the restaurant attached is closed Tuesdays and Wednesday's, and there are very few places to eat nearby, so pack food! I'm also not sure if they clean your room daily, ours didn't get cleaned. Overall we would stay here again just be more prepared. read more

PERFECT FOR TRAVELERS OR THE ADVENTUROUS. Very nice clean rooms with updated bathroom. The room is not the point of the 5 stars. The location is EVERYTHING GIRL. If you're the kind of person that is down for a lil hike or to go in a gift shop and museum I highly highly recommend staying here or even just checking out the area. There is a trailhead right by 101 at the end of the motel. There's a hike you can take that is a about a 1/2 mile. Only a couple strenuous points but well worth it. A gorgeous secret beach with tons of tide pools with loads of starfish and sea anemones. Definitely take a few hours and just wonder around. Smoke some maryjane and just hangout. Across the the highway not even 200 yards is the Trees of Mystery. It looked really cool because 20 something dollars isn't a worth a hike?!? Or to look at trees?! Anyway overall 10 stars for this motel. Highly recommended!!! read more

This place is much, MUCH NICER than the posted pictures here and on their site for the Trees of Mystery. I think the outside has been completed renovated: roof, siding and paint. The windows were brand new. The entry cards looked new too and worked. We were disappointed because we wanted to stay in a cheesy motel with a wood/forest theme. Instead the room had been slightly renovated to take out the cheese and left us with old paneling and linoleum, but a HUGE room. We had a decent but slightly lumpy king room, with microwave, frig and tv. Don't even think the TV nor the wifi are going to work in these deep woods, they don't! Very comfy, clean and huge room. Not sure how this place is still in business. The front desk woman is a nightmare. Couldn't find her for 15 minutes after knocking on the lobby door when we had arrived, and I called twice, no answer. We had a service dog stay with us, and she laughed and shook her head when we were checking in. Next morning woke up to take my dog out and she is yelling at me from across the parking lot at 6:30 in the morning. Go back inside to our room humiliated to hear her yelling saying that my dog was growling, barking and lynching at her which was absolutely not the case. My dog does NOT even bark. She stated "they are making up disabilities". We wanted to pack up and leave but there was nothing else available in town. About an hour later we had received a phone call from her asking if we could switch rooms. We said yes if she needed us to, we would. Got to the hotel to pack everything up and switch rooms for her to tell us "no we don't need you to switch rooms. I thought it might be better for you with your kids" we had never mentioned anything about having kids or asking for a bigger room. Not sure what is up the woman's butt, but I would definitely avoid this place at all costs. Also, the water was a yellow orange tint. My boyfriend and I ended up going into crescent city for bottled water for our whole stay. If you're going to need the WiFi, and service, expect none. The WiFi worked for less than minute every two hours. read more

Front desk lady was extremely rude, I had a long drive to get there and arrived at 11pm * the email I got said if arriving after 10pm ring the night bell* so I did and after waiting 10 mins she finally woke up and was shaking her head at me the entire time and giving me dirty looks. Had personal bbq down at the beach & Clean room! Ive stayed in alot of 'fancy 4 star' places where my daughters socks turn dirty from carpet, this was clean nothing at all. Shower was immaculately top notch gorgeous. I stayed in Waterfall room and loved waking up to it above my head! The restaurant decor is OFF THE WALL AWESOME! My husband and I stayed here after going to the Trees of Mystery as part of the first leg of our road trip. It was a good price and the atmosphere of the retro kitsch motel fit well with the Trees (we requested the forest mural room). The room was huge and everything was clean, not the dirty dive it could have been. We did go to the restaurant next door which we thought would be the same kitsch feel, but it was a litte more depressing and I would not recommend the food. Overall a decent stay. And don't miss the trail! It was a beautiful and secluded morning walk. read more

I stayed at Motel Trees in December 2013. The motel was vacant, except for two other rooms. The room was nearly $90 a night. They asked us to be there by 10pm to check in. We arrived at 9:30pm and we had to hustle. The check in was very quick but the woman who checked me in was grumpy and in pajamas. I felt like I was putting her out. We went into our room and the website pictures were accurate; dated and mural-diculous. The back half of a toy squirrel was glued to a fake redwood tree in front of a huge 1970's era mural of a forest behind the bed. I half expected Sam and Dean Winchester to show up. I only noticed the decor for a second before I saw noticed the cleanliness. I am convinced the manager jacks the maids up on caffeine and amphetamines before sending them to work because no unmodified human could make a motel that clean. I have never stayed in such a clean room. It sparkled like a toothpaste commercial. I would feel comfortable putting food on any table surface. The bed was clean and comfortable. The linens were unstained, clean, and smelled nice. I pulled out the mattress and it was clean behind the mattresses. I pulled out the night stands, clean. Towels were spotless. The shower was mold free. Even the half squirrel was dust free. It was all clean. The mattress was comfortable enough that my partner fell asleep in about 12.5 seconds. In the middle of the night we went across the street to the statues outside of Trees of Mystery. It was like a private viewing party. The sky was very dark, and we could see about a zillion stars. Motel Trees accepts dogs. I took our dog out for the morning walk around the motel and decided to take the dog into the lobby to buy some trinkets and pick up brochures. The same desk agent from the night before came out and told me that dogs were not allowed in the lobby because some guests may be allergic. Right after she said that, two small yappy dogs began to bark right behind her. We wanted to have breakfast at the attached restaurant next door. It had menus and information about it in the room. It had a big sign on the building when we pulled up. I called the front desk to ask when it was open in the morning, and it was closed for the season. We were happy with the room but anything outside the room could be improved. It cost too much for what was offered and the service. The Hampton Inn is only about $10 more a night. All in all, we had a good time when we were not talking to the desk agent. I will forever recommend a visit to Motel Trees to the proprietor of any filthy hotel we visit and I would stay there again if I were passing through. read more

The room was clean... But who knows when the last time the bedding was washed. The freezing ass cold shower was lovely too. But the grouchy, unhelpful, old lady running the place was the most enjoyable part of the stay. If your personality is the equivalent of burnt shoe leather, you should probably choose something other than hospitality to make your living. We won't be back and can't in good consciousness suggest it to someone else. read more
