    Hiking trail

It's a cute motel, check in & out was easy, and the woman working the front desk was very friendly. It is an old motel though, and you're in the middle of the woods, so be aware of that. WiFi is hit or miss and there were a few spiders that crept into the room. The bathroom was upgraded though, and I loved all the different themed rooms you could choose from. You're across the street from Trees of Mystery, where Paul Bunyan & Babe the Big Blue Ox are, that was fun to wake up to. The coolest part is the hiking trail right behind the motel, and depending on which one you take, it's a pretty easy, beautiful little hike. There is a restaurant on sight and I wish we would've chosen to eat here because the food looked and smelled so good! We did get a few beers at the bar and that was chill. Will probably stay here again if I'm in the area.

Some of these reviewers need to learn the difference between "rude" and "curt". Julie is curt. She tells you what you need to know and that's about it. If you're not a person who demands that employees offer fake smiles and forced conversation, you'll like her. As for the rooms (we rented two), they were an interesting blend of modern renovations and vintage 1970's kitsch. The rooms, baths and beds were clean and the spaces were comfortable. Mini fridge, coffee maker and microwave worked fine...but the beds ARE hard. Also, if temperature control is important to you, check the amenities for the room you're reserving. Some have AC, some don't. Some reviewers mentioned brown water, and this is a thing because it's an old building with old pipes. Just let it run for a minute. Highly recommend the Secret Beach trail too! Overall, I give it 5 stars because it's fine for what it is. A small, classic motel in the middle of nowhere.

I did my research on-line before making my reservations that being said I found it very enjoyable. I read the restaurant would only be open Thursday to Sunday so I made my plans to include getting food while I did my adventures. Location was perfect since I would be going to the Northern part of the Redwoods, Trees of Mystery and Southern part of the Redwoods. Now I rented a room with pet accommodation but after making the reservations my pet passed away and on arrival when check in it came up so I was asked if I would like to switch rooms to a non-pet room which I excepted and received the lower rate. It's very nice to be offered things even though I wasn't going to ask. The room was better than I expected it was very comfortable and clean. Housekeeping did come by and put clean towels and did clean up while I was out and about. When I did ask question I got a friendly response and very good recommendations and great info on the trail to the beach. In my opinion people need to think about what they are going to be doing and if this little gem in the woods is a good choice for them. For me it was everything I needed and wanted for vacation trip and will visit again.

This is what the AC filters looked like before I washed them. Yikes! No wonder the AC units aren't working, this will ruin a compressor.

This motel is one of the cheaper options we found in the immediate area, and I hoped it would be a cute place to stay overnight on a long road trip. The main bed itself was reasonably comfortable and the room was clean, though a bit shabby (no padding at all under the old brown shag carpet, for example, and the wallpaper mural was fading and torn in places). Unfortunately it was the rest of our experience that was the problem. Broken AC with filters that looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a year (I washed the ones in our room so the fan in the AC unit would work, at least), a broken fridge, a hot and stuffy room, an ancient lumpy cot better described as a medieval torture device, management uninterested in concerns (I asked about the AC not working and was met with a rant about how guests should just sleep with the windows open... okay), brown water (even after letting it run for a while), and a loud talking giant outside the room (Paul Bunyan across the street has a VERY LOUD loudspeaker and constant chatter) first thing in the morning all soured me on this place. Just about as sour as the milk I had put in the apparently broken fridge was in the morning. If you love a hot and stuffy room, don't mind paying for an AC room with no functional AC, don't need to use a cot or the fridge, and don't mind management that will wave away concerns, then you'll probably find this place totally fine. I hope they will fix their appliances and upgrade their cots at the very least so that future travelers will not run into the same issues we did. I'd hoped to find a little gem of a vintage motel, but alas, we won't be staying there again.

The room and bathroom were clean and spacious! The bed was not comfortable at all though.

I loved this motel, the location, the cleanliness, the secret beach behind it, the gondolas and suspension bridge across the street, ... But the bed was really uncomfortable.

Smells like bug spray. No curtain in bathroom. Dated, rude front desk, noise in morning from employees starting golf carts

Nice clean if basic cabin across from Trees of mystery. Biggest issue is finding food when the restaurant was closed.

Solid 3 star hotel right across from the Trees of Mystery. Rooms are big and clean. Great place to stay on a roadtrip up/down the coast.

I truly cannot say anything negative about this place as it really made our Redwoods trip much more memorable with how cozy the Requa Inn is. I was sad to leave. We were looking for a place to stay during our trip to the Redwood National Park and had planned to drive all along the coast, so needed a base for a few days. We found The Historic Requa Inn in Klamath, which seemed to be a good location as it was central to everywhere we wanted to go, which was key. But I didn't expect it to be as outstanding as it was. We arrived to the hotel before the concierge left, just in time, too, as the hotel doors lock at 8pm. We had no idea until we arrived and were told this helpful information, along with everything else. Since we got into town late, we didn't realize that everything in town was closed for dinner. The kind staff saw us trying to find a place to grab dinner, so he offered us his sandwich. Way too kind of him! Of course we politely declined and ended up eating snacks on our first night, but that just shows you how kind the staff are here. We had breakfast here the following morning, which was delicious. Even locals come here to this hotel restaurant for breakfast, so it's not just guests. The food is very tasty, hearty and is freshly made. I never ate anything here that I wouldn't get again. It was a great way to start our long day of hiking and adventures. Because the hotel was built in 1914, it's historic and charming. All of the hotel rooms are uniquely decorated, so no room is the same. It had antique furniture and decore. The lobby area and bedrooms do not have a TV, encouraging guests to enjoy the simple and classic, as they have puzzles, board games, and books in the lobby area for guests to use. I loved that. I especially loved reading out on the deck, looking out to the river and road. They also offer free coffee, tea and hot cocoa for guests and put out in the middle of the day port that you can pour yourself a glass of and freshly baked cookies. PLUS, since we visited during the Independence Day holiday weekend, the hotel offered guests a complimentary BBQ meal on July 4th! And it was not just standard burgers and hot dogs, they made grilled chicken with different salads, sides and fresh fruit. It was a great way to connect with other hotel guests over this shared, celebratory meal. Our bedroom was very comfortable. It had everything we needed, with wifi, a fan, night light in the bathroom, handmade soaps, a complimentary bottle of wine, tons of blankets, etc. Even though the room didn't have AC, we had no trouble cooling down with the fan and open windows that had fresh air coming through. I also loved that the hotel was in the town of Klamath, with no traffic noise or city lights, so the nights were quiet and peaceful. We really did not want to leave this wonderful hotel. So glad I was able to stay here and learn about the area. I would happily stay here again.

Just an email telling us what room to go to, and key was in door. When we got into our room, our box spring was broken, mattress so worn couldn't use the bed at all. Floors were extremely loud and loose boards. Contacted manager, they verified box spring was broken, and told us there were 5 vacant rooms to choose from for our 4 night stay. Picked a room, and thought that was that. Our basic Room was tiny. No TV, No microwave, no frig. Squeaky floors, can hear everything, no sound proofing between units. Next day we left for work. Around noon, we recieved a call from manager informing us they were going to move our belongings back into the original room, because they had new guests coming in. I informed them they didn't have our consent to touch our belongings, and we were not going back to the original room because of previous issues. They said, either I take the broken room or they'd have my belongings at the office for pick up, and I was being unreasonable. We had to leave work, Lose money and time, and drive over 30 minutes back to hotel to get our belongings. I informed them we just wanted our money back at this point, I'd rather sleep in my car. The manager said they changed out the broken bed in original room, we went to go inspect it, she tells us the box spring wasn't broken (3 witnesses to confirm it was) yet, they changed it. She said the entire bed was replaced. She was accommodating us on her lunch break, and going out of her way even when the "box spring wasnt even broken". She then says the room change was only for last night, and now the hotel had no vacancies and we had to take our original room, or she would contact her boss. I told her I needed a moment to think because i was very overwhelned by all this. Once she left the room, we saw she kept the sunken mattress which was unusable, and replaced the box spring. . They had no other rooms available all of a suden, and were unwilling to put new bookings into the room we switched out of, becasudden, she said "that would be unfair to the other guests" I informed them that I was unsatisfied by how they were treating us, especially paying the type of money this place charges to be inconvenienced by broken beds, room switches, and the attitude we recieved because of their mismanagement. Manager became rude, hostile and kept changing her story to suit her best interest. She lied to the owner about what occurred and we informed them we were checking out and due to the experience, expect a refund for the remaining 3 nights. Manager said they would consider it a "cancelation" and I would be responsible for 50% of the entire 4 nights. After staying less than 12 hours and having to deal with what we did, that was a shock. This place doesn't care about their customers or have any customer service. I say, keep driving to bigger a town, or you're better off sleeping in your car. For your sanity, don't go here, they don't deserve to be in the hospitality business. So sad.
