I stayed one night here during a road trip and do recommend! Obviously it is not a 5-star hotel, but I do give it 5 stars for what it is. And what exactly is that? -clean! While planning my road trip, tbh it was hard to find hotels that were affordable and clean. No need to worry about that here. -standard no frills motel, and I was glad the room did not have carpet. But on that note, I'm glad I got a top-level room because I'm not sure if I'd be able to hear anyone above me -they granted me complimentary late check out :D -bed and bedding was okay. About what I expected for a motel. Ok but what else? -great water pressure! -pet friendly!! -great, historic diner next door -they have a camp fire with smores, which is really cool. I arrived rather late, maybe around midnight, and the man at the front desk was happy to restart the fire for me so that I could experience it. -they have a lot of lawn games, great for the kids -it's totally tucked away in the forest off the main road that winds through there. Very quiet, secluded, and lots of nature. Also the keys are still the old school motel keychains and physical keys, which i haven't seen since I was a kid. I asked them if they had an old keychain that I could have as a little momento for my trip and they did! Btw tip: if you're looking for paper maps for your road trip, because you def lose reception for long stretches of the coast, the gas station across the street has them! Hiouchi gives a new meaning to "motel." After driving for several hours on a roadtrip we were able to a get room the same evening. The check in was easy and our room was clean with a good A/C. They set up a fire with s'mores ingredients which was a fun surprise! The nearest town is about 15 minutes away and the road is quite windy & dark at night. There is a store across the street that was open until 8. The motel is pet friendly and gave our pup a treat at check in! We had a very pleasant stay & will return as we pass through this area on future trips. read more

This hotel is a gem. It is nestled beside Jedidiah Redwood State Park that borders the Oregon Coast. We utilized the campfire and lawn area while we were there. The Hiouchi Hamlet across the way is stocked with basic supplies and the restaurant next door serves a decent breakfast. The staff at this motel make the stay wonderful. They were attentive and kind. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The location can't be beat and they allow dogs! My family had a marvelous time. It's close to Cave Junction the cool caves in Oregon and The Trees of Mystery. And you can't beat the price! read more

If you are planning on visiting the Red Woods and don't want to camp, Hiouchi Motel is the spot, the location is key. Checking in was a breeze with the help of Adriana. I was a bit skeptical because the pictures depicted an older looking motel but don't judge a book by its cover. The room was super clean and felt so inviting and the bath and vanity were upgraded! The shower pressure was great, our bed had a warm blanket, the Ac/Heater was quiet, they have two coffee machines in the room and the towel was comfortable (not scratchy like other places LOL) and the price was so reasonable. My family and I stayed at the Hiouchi Motel from July 21 to 22 after driving down from the Bend, Oregon area with a stop to visit the Redwoods on our way home back to Southern California. My wife booked a room here after searching Yelp and we were pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed our stay. From the outside, the Hiouchi Motel looks like any normal motel that's been around for a long time when driving on a road trip to somewhere else. Admittedly, when we pulled up, we were a bit nervous since the place looked a bit older than we were used to and my son and I have had terrible experiences at a "hotel" last summer (please see my previous review of the Red Roof Inn in the Allentown area of PA). However, those misgivings immediately evaporated when we walked into the lobby to check in. First and foremost, the customer service is exceptional. From the moment we walked in, the front desk staff greeted us with warm smiles and a genuine eagerness to help. They went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It was immediately evident that they truly cared about their guests, which made us feel welcomed and appreciated. The staff even told us about the fire pit on the property and advised about the "Smore" ingredients they had available for our kids. When we received our room keys, we were pleasantly surprised to find that they were "old school", physical keys with a keychain with the room # attached to a real key. This nostalgic touch added a unique charm to our stay, a refreshing change from the typical card keys you find in most hotels/motels. As we made our way to our room, we were immediately struck by how clean the property and facilities were. From the parking lot, to the amenities around the property, everything was well managed and kept. When we finally got to the room, we turned the key and immediately noticed how spotless the room was. I know it's not a lot to ask but again, we've stayed in places where it looked like the room's previous occupants hadn't vacated the room yet. But not this place. It was clear that great attention had been paid to detail. The bed was neatly made, the bathroom was immaculate with no stains, mold or anything. Even the corners of the room were free of dust. It felt like we were the first guests to ever stay there. Another impressive aspect was the in-room book. It outlined all the services available at the motel, and included recommendations for things to do and see in the area. This guide provided us with the WiFi password, dining options, and sightseeing suggestions, making it easy for us to plan our activities. It was clear the book was NOT prepared by some corporate copywriter that you typically see in the big chain hotels/motels, but by someone who took the time to include information to make a person's stay in the area more pleasant. The thoughtful inclusion of this book added a personal touch and enhanced our overall experience. The location of the Hiouchi Motel is also a major plus. Nestled in the beautiful Redwood area, it was just a few minutes from Crescent City (the largest town in the area) and offered convenient access to stunning natural attractions. We were able to explore the majestic Redwood National and State Parks with ease, making our trip even more memorable. Overall, our stay at the Hiouchi Motel was outstanding. The combination of exceptional customer service, immaculate cleanliness, and a great location made it a perfect choice for our visit. Wonderful service. Nice place. I needed a dog friendly place as me, my two small children and dogs were moving out of state. I showed up late because my phone couldn't pick up a signal. The location is excellent, right along the Redwood Highway. The person at the front desk was kind, pleasant and bent over backwards for us. The room was clean. I was immediately pleased by the front desk answering in person (Lacey) to my reservation request.(The online system on the website didn't work.) As I made my request, she asked me if I had AAA or AARP and enthusiastically said, "oh, that's 10% off." When I then asked whether the next door cafe was open, she offered, "oh, that's 10% off because you're staying with us." Third pleasant surprise: when I asked if credit card information was needed, Lacey said, "we'll take care of that when you come." Having just been on American Airlines automated loop for tooo long, it was absolutely refreshing to have real customer service! The photos are accurate. An older establishment, but well maintained and the bathroom is recently, tastefully updated. The one staircase was closed for repairs. Microwave & refrigerator included. Flowers & wood carvings of bears at the entrance, an outdoor fire pit and lawn all added to the setting. The location is excellent for the Redwoods and quieter I'm sure, than if we'd stayed on the strip in Crescent City. The Hiouchi Motel went beyond our expectations for a non-chain motel. Both season had their magic moments and the staff at the motel and cafe made the trip even that much more special. This is the perfect hotel if you want to hike around the redwoods. At first we weren't sure of the location because it seemed out of town. That ended up being one of the best features of this place. Honestly, I don't think I would have felt as safe had we stayed in some of the other hotels we looked at. The room was spotless, nothing fancy. However, let's be honest - we didn't spend too much time in the room as it was. The best part was having a little shop across the street and walking to the cafe for breakfast. Oh, and they have a little grassy area which is like having your own lovely back yard. Every night people would grill out or build a fire to sit around with the family. Our last minute booking: We had reservations from hotel.com but they cancElle's our reservation and couldn't gave us explanation. we were all panicking very difficult to find a place for 8 people and a dog in last minute luckily we called Hiouchi Motel they were able to find 2 rooms and pet friendly for us we couldn't thank them enough. The receptionist were so sweet she turned the heat on before we arrived and she was super friendly and very sweet , all staff are very friendly too . Next door the restaurant we went to have breakfast everyone were so sweet and kind . The food were very delicious. our family will definitely go back again. We were a party of 4 military veterans who stayed at the Motel for 3 days and found the rooms to be clean, comfortable, and attractive, with coffee makers, wifi, TV and refrigerator. The front desk was very helpful and cheerful. We ate several breakfast meals at the Cafe and found them to be excellent. Tasty with large portions and well presented -- food to die for. Waitresses were efficient and meal prep time was quick. I look forward to returning on a future fishing trip to the Smith River. read more

The town of Hiouchi consists of a gas station, a cafe and a Motel right at the entry to Redwoods National Park (the visitor center is just down the road). The motel is right off main street but is oriented so that none of the rooms face the road, so road noise is at a minimum. The grounds and buildings are in good condition and the area has plantings and grass so it has a friendly feel. The lobby is tiny but functional. There are no luggage carts available to move luggage. The rooms are distributed among two floors with stairs and no elevators to access the second floor. The room size is typical, is nicely appointed and clean. The sink area is outside of the bathroom. There is a coffee maker, fridge and microwave in the room. The beds are comfortable. The room is short on electrical outlets so you may have to unplug some appliances and use the bathroom outlets. No breakfast is served (you are encouraged to have breakfast at the cafe next door). In the evening they start a fire pit and provide s'more fixings. They also have lawn games. This seemed to be enjoyed by many of the guests. I would definitely stay here again if visiting Redwoods National Park. read more

As much as I love the Redwoods, and frequently drive from the PNW to SoCal, I usually skip the attractions in the area because the hotels and towns are so undesirable. Enter the Hiouchi Motel, located right off the highway and amongst the trees. The grounds are thoughtfully maintained and have a nice fire pit and sitting area, as well as some outdoor games. There's plenty of lawn for dogs to sniff and stretch, and yes its a dog friendly hotel, surprisingly rare in that vicinity. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the bed was a full king size and the room was quiet throughout the night. Across the street is a great little market with a good selection of items and fun touristy things too. Note that it closes early, but we had called ahead to the hotel to make sure they were prepared for our late arrival and their friendly staff warned us of that ahead of time so we could stop before being in the secluded area. Finding this place was a giant relief, and a really pleasant surprise. Highly recommend if you need a jumping off point to enjoy the Coastal Redwood region or the nearby Trees of Mystery. There's a yummy, old school restaurant next door that provides discounts to hotel guests. And there is a lot of on site, outdoor parking too. read more

I face my review on where I stay there again? The answer is no. The bathroom was clean, however, the rest of the room was disappointing. The beds moved from the wall every time you try to sit up and read or watch TV. The television worked sometimes. There was only one restaurant in that location and my sons food was greasy. I stayed there two days ago as a last minute option while visiting the Redwood Forest and the thing that sticks out in my mind is praying I'd fall asleep soon so I could stop itching and feeling creeped out by the bed sheets. The place was $66 and I know why, you are paying for a roof and bottom of the line amenities. Hair was found in the "clean towels", a layer of dust on the fan that I couldn't turn on in the heat I felt because I was afraid the dust would fly everywhere. After checking in I had a need to take a shower because I felt so dirty in the room. A brown ring covered the tub and that's when I just had enough. Not sure why so many gave this place a good rating, I'm quite surprised. Why I gave this place two stars and not one: they accepted pets, it was in a great location and the price was cheaper than a bottle of restaurant wine. read more

Not Recommended based on their own statement as a quiet retreat. Motel is loud, dirty, few amenities, though the soap smelled good. Stayed based on it being dog friendly, dog feces all over the only spot of mowed grass. When we asked the night desk if they could speak to the loud people upstairs she balked and was not helpful until we stated, if we can't sleep we wanted our money back, she then moved the couple with four dogs. Placed the do not disturb sign to get some rest, they still knocked on the door to see if I needed anything. The lady that checked us in was very pleasant, but the young girl with her boyfriend seemed like she did not know how to handle loud guests. They need phones in rooms to request service, especially when your handicapped. read more

This motel was a decent place to stay while visiting the Redwoods. I agree with other Yelpers that it is dated but fairly clean. Except for the carpet. It didn't seem very clean and I never heard vacuuming as they were cleaning other rooms. New bedspreads, lamp shades and regular vacuuming would really up my opinion! Pros - mostly clean - microwave and tiny fridge provided - mini coffee machine and coffee packets provided - great location - free wifi (slow but about as good as could be expected in an area that had no cell service) - 10% AAA discount Cons - no breakfast provided (They give you a 10% off token for the Hiochi Cafe which is conveniently owned by the same company) - lampshades and carpet needed some serious cleaning - Even though check-out is at noon, by 10AM house cleaning was knocking on our door. All in all, I expect better for $100/night but also realize the location allows them to charge more than a motel like that would normally cost. read more

So we just stayed 3 nights. First off, the lady working the front desk was super nice and very sweet. Gave us a good run down of the hours of the store across the street and the cafe next door. Room was basic but pretty clean, there was dried coffee in the coffee pot and the spots that are a little hard to reach were definately dusty but bathroom, floors, and bed were clean. Mini fridge froze all our food because it was set too high i guess...not that big of a deal. One of the days we put the do not disturb sign up and the 2nd day switched it to ask for maid service which never happened, we really just needed fresh towels anyways so that evening we just went and asked the front desk for more. The biggest negative i have though is our last night a guy knocked on our door at like 1040 pm, possibly the owner? And was rudely telling us we were being too loud and the guy downstairs said we were walking too much ...we had been in bed for a few hours relaxing, only getting up to go to the bathroom or make some tea in the (dirty) coffee pot. We were walking in bare feet or socks, certainly not tap dancing around the room. Im sorry, am I not allowed to walk around in my hotel room or go to the bathroom after a certain hour? The bedframes are cheap and the bed made noise when we moved around or rolled over...couldnt help that either. My husband and I are in our mid 30s and were not up partying at all and the guy spoke to us like we were trash or unreasonable. I was upset and was up for a long time that night because i was afraid to even roll over in bed. Basically, location was good but very basic, which is fine but you get what you pay for. read more

It's quaint but reasonable for the price. The bedrooms are a little dated but CLEAN! Even saw that they bought new comforters and sheets! The staff is very friendly and even met the new owners! They seem to be taking better care of it than the last owners. One reviewer mentioned that whomever they spoke to didnt know what to recommend in the area, but there really isn't much to do. We stayed here for a few days. I chose this motel because it was so close to the redwoods and very reasonably priced. My room had a fridge, microwave and coffee maker, cable tv and wi-fi. All of the appliances were spotlessly clean and worked well. Having the fridge and microwave helped to save money on meals. We picked up some groceries in town and the gas station across the street had a decent selection of convenience foods and fresh doughnuts in the morning (they disappear early) The outdoor patio and grill looked inviting but it rained the whole time we were there, so maybe next time. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is a basic motel, definitely showing its age, but clean with very friendly staff. Any time I had a question or request, Natalie and Shae were able to help right away. My only wish for improvement would be heavier curtains on the windows to block the porch lights outside the door. I have been in the travel industry for over 30 years and our six night stay at the Hiouchi Motel August 2018 was awesome! Great customer service from David, Sarah and the entire staff. Clean and comfortable quiet rooms. Great price especially for high season. 5G wifi is better than any high end hotel I've stayed at. Nice small refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot and air conditioning. We had a family reunion here with part of us staying at the Hiouchi Motel and some at the State Park. Literally five minutes from the park. Hiouchi Cafe has delicious home cook comfort food and the store across the street, Hiouchi Hamlet amazingly has just about anything you want for a decent price too. For those of you who gave poor reviews, get over it! If you expect the Hyatt experience, this is NOT the place for you. This is a small comfortable motel for folks who want to experience the Redwoods but do not want to camp. We look forward to seeing all of you again Sara! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
