Hiouchi gives a new meaning to "motel." After driving for several hours on a roadtrip we were able to a get room the same evening. The check in was easy and our room was clean with a good A/C. They set up a fire with s'mores ingredients which was a fun surprise! The nearest town is about 15 minutes away and the road is quite windy & dark at night. There is a store across the street that was open until 8. The motel is pet friendly and gave our pup a treat at check in! We had a very pleasant stay & will return as we pass through this area on future trips.

This hotel is a gem. It is nestled beside Jedidiah Redwood State Park that borders the Oregon Coast. We utilized the campfire and lawn area while we were there. The Hiouchi Hamlet across the way is stocked with basic supplies and the restaurant next door serves a decent breakfast. The staff at this motel make the stay wonderful. They were attentive and kind. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The location can't be beat and they allow dogs! My family had a marvelous time. It's close to Cave Junction the cool caves in Oregon and The Trees of Mystery. And you can't beat the price!

If you are planning on visiting the Red Woods and don't want to camp, Hiouchi Motel is the spot, the location is key. Checking in was a breeze with the help of Adriana. I was a bit skeptical because the pictures depicted an older looking motel but don't judge a book by its cover. The room was super clean and felt so inviting and the bath and vanity were upgraded! The shower pressure was great, our bed had a warm blanket, the Ac/Heater was quiet, they have two coffee machines in the room and the towel was comfortable (not scratchy like other places LOL) and the price was so reasonable. I would highly recommend this place! Come check them out Side note: They also own the Historic Hiouchi Café next door (check out my review) Dog Friendly, I want to say they charge $20 per night. (not sure if its per stay, per dog etc give them a call)

What a great time! The rooms are clean and comfortable. The manager and staff made sure we felt welcome and had everything we needed. Perfect place to start your adventures with a great restaurant right next door.

Really enjoyed my stay at this motel. The rooms were very clean and had everything we needed. We had a microwave, good sized mini fridge and plenty of coffee options. The staff here was extremely generous to our group!

We were ALL relieved to find a cozy spot after a long drive.

Wonderful service. Nice place. I needed a dog friendly place as me, my two small children and dogs were moving out of state. I showed up late because my phone couldn't pick up a signal. The location is excellent, right along the Redwood Highway. The person at the front desk was kind, pleasant and bent over backwards for us. The room was clean. There was a fire pit for late night conversation. And the diner next door gives discounts to residents. I want to go back. Maybe camp next time.

Great place to stay manger and clerks very help full it, has everything you need if not jusk ask cafe a skip and hop your there bring your fatso pants the cooks are good even pizza size pan cake photo just breakfast

I was immediately pleased by the front desk answering in person (Lacey) to my reservation request.(The online system on the website didn't work.) As I made my request, she asked me if I had AAA or AARP and enthusiastically said, "oh, that's 10% off." When I then asked whether the next door cafe was open, she offered, "oh, that's 10% off because you're staying with us." Third pleasant surprise: when I asked if credit card information was needed, Lacey said, "we'll take care of that when you come." Having just been on American Airlines automated loop for tooo long, it was absolutely refreshing to have real customer service! The photos are accurate. An older establishment, but well maintained and the bathroom is recently, tastefully updated. The one staircase was closed for repairs. Microwave & refrigerator included. Flowers & wood carvings of bears at the entrance, an outdoor fire pit and lawn all added to the setting. The location is excellent for the Redwoods and quieter I'm sure, than if we'd stayed on the strip in Crescent City. The Hiouchi Motel went beyond our expectations for a non-chain motel. BTW: We walked around in the RV park across the street. It looked pleasant.

This room also had a VERY big nice TV - much larger TV than in the other rooms! This was our first time to Crescent City and of course we wondered if the fog horn would be a problem (especially given the "warning" on the hotel website). It wasn't an issue for us - but we didn't sleep with the door to the balcony open or anything. You can definitely hear it... but it's not super loud and/or overbearing... when I think "foghorn" I usually think about the super loud blaster that they use at 49er games or something, but this wasn't that at all - not even close! The TV was a little bit of a challenge to figure out, but we figured it out eventually. I can't say that I was crazy about the bathroom layout... with the sink part being in the main room, but the upside to that is there was a LOT of counter space, much more than would have been available otherwise. After a little reflection, I realized there really wasn't a better way to lay things out. I just had to get used to it... and now, I wouldn't hesitate to get the same room again.

Ryan at the front desk indicated that while he technically could modify our reservation, we'd have to go through Expedia since we booked with them - sure, not a problem. I talk to an Expedia agent who says yep, we should be able to modify the reservation. They call the Oceanview Inn, speak with Ryan, who says nope, no can do. When I went back to the lobby (still on the night of check-in) to ask Ryan what happened, he became confrontational. The staff here are unwilling to help their guests or make even minor modifications to reservations, even for services that have not and will not be rendered. Location: Convenient location close to the beach, highway, and Redwood National Park. Other than the national park there is very little to do in Crescent City. Not many good restaurant options. Room: Antiquated. Hasn't been updated in 25 years, uncomfortable bed. The upgraded room we reserved was quite large, however, the walls are thin and we could hear our neighbors all night. Also, the fog horn blows every 8 seconds. Walking to & from the room we noticed the hallways smell like strongly of urine.

Stayed here on June 6, 2026…read more The hotel has a few positives. Our room was clean when we arrived, and the breakfast area was spacious with a great view, which made the morning experience enjoyable. However, there were several downsides. The biggest issue was a leaking faucet in the room, which suggests that maintenance could be improved. The room itself was also quite small--just enough space to move around comfortably, with very limited extra room for luggage or other belongings. Overall, the hotel was adequate for a short stay, mainly because of the cleanliness and pleasant breakfast area, but the maintenance issues and cramped room size kept the experience from being more enjoyable.

No communication was made to us prior to arriving at the hotel about our room not being ready. No concessions were made at that time because our booking was done through "www.hotels.com". During our stay our room developed a significant water leak from a ceiling light/fan fixture. This happened very late at night; I called down to the front desk and after waiting for several minutes I received a call back. By this time the water leak from the ceiling had mostly stopped, however we used all our hotel towels mitigating the water leak. The staff offered an adjacent room for us to stay in. However, it was very late at night and we had sleeping children and being that the water leak seemed to have stopped on its own we opted to stay in our room.  When we came back to our room the next day, the water leak was still active.  The hotel had not sent anyone to fix the leak and they had not sent anyone from housekeeping to clean up the huge water mess.  I went and spoke with the front desk staff personally and asked for assistance, however we never received any for the remainder of our stay. We spent the majority of our time out of the room because of this issue. We then had to leave the property several hours earlier than our scheduled check out time due to the bathroom being unusable. It was unusable because of an active water leak and a standing water all over the floor. Again, I called down to the front desk early on the morning of our check out to ask for assistance and they didn't provide any. After telling them that morning what the issues were that we were having, the response from staff was "Ok". The onsite manager was never available, and I was never able to speak to them.  This was by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had and I will not be staying a best western ever again.

Stayed here on a Tuesday night during the middle of a long road trip. Place was quiet and eerie. With your window open, you are only accompanied by the lapping of distant waves. That is genuinely it. I probably saw 3 guests the course of my 14 hour stay. Eerie right? The dated decor didn't help either. However, I attest that this lodge is worth the stop. All of the workers were nice, the mattresses were extremely comfy, and the views were beautiful. All components of a great stay. Truthfully maybe this place doesn't deserve five stars. But I am rooting for this establishment. I hope you all enjoy oceanfront lodge as much as I did.

We thought it was going to be a beautiful stay, according to the website. Boy, we're were surprised. We arrived after a long drive. We decided to drop off our luggage and head out for dinner. After dinner we did a little sightseeing by driving around. We returned back to our hotel around 8:00 pm. I always pull back the sheets and mattress pad. I usually do that as soon as i get the room, but, we were too hungry and exhausted. Too my surprise. I found something that resembles bed bugs along with hair and stains all over. I was shocked. We stay and travel a lot. I have never in my life stayed in filth. We immediately called down to the front. A young man showed up and had no clue what to do. I said. We need to change rooms. He left and came back up to tell us we couldn't because we have been here more than 30 minutes. What??? Are you serious?? Then i asked if we could have housekeeping come and change our bedding? He said there was nobody there. I then pulled up the chair cushion and.. disgusting. Food stains and god only knows what else. My husband and i packed up because there's no way we were going to stay in this room with potential bed bugs along. The kid said it looked like bird food. Another ridiculous comment. It was blood or poop. I took photos and videos because this should not be allowed. I couldn't hardly get out of the back door because it was rusty and hard to open. Then the balcony was terrifying to be on. It looked like we would go right through it. The chair was dirty so we couldn't sit on it. We asked for our money back, but still haven't received it. I will not sit with my mouth closed on this one. They board of Health. Needs to get involved. If there is blood or feces on your bed. That's a serious problem . We called a near by hotel and they instantly told us to come over. We did and it was beautiful! Clean, safe and a super friendly helpful staff. That would be great thank you.. I wouldn't even give them a one star.
