During the appointment all was going smoothly until she asked about my medical history, and my husband made a comment that I've struggled with anxiety since we met and Rodin then commented back "have you guys been together for like a thousand years or something?". Her comment not really even making sense, but I found that her comment was very unprofessional, dismissive, unnecessary, and to an extent disrespectful to us both. Like I said, this was my first experience and I purposely scheduled with someone else the next time. Don't schedule with Rodin, her expertise was good but her customer care was horrible and if anyone should know better not to kick someone while they are down it is her with her knowledge in postpartum care. First impression is everything!

She spent hours with us teaching us about labor, birth, postpartum recovery, evidence-based birth practices, and all of the options we might encounter along the way. Her prenatal meetings were incredibly organized. She came prepared with checklists, charts, educational materials, and a wonderful birth plan packet that made it so easy to think through our preferences. We especially appreciated all the time she spent teaching my husband practical ways to support me physically, mentally, and emotionally throughout labor. Those conversations gave both of us so much confidence going into the birth. Kelsey's communication was outstanding from start to finish. She was always incredibly responsive, checked in with us regularly (at least weekly), and sent detailed summary emails after every visit so we always knew what we had discussed and what our next steps were. During labor and delivery, she took detailed notes of everything that happened. Looking back, there are so many parts of labor that I don't remember, and having her notes has been such a meaningful gift because I can relive the experience and remember all the details. She provided wonderful physical comfort techniques and emotional support while helping us understand what was happening throughout the process. Before meeting Kelsey, I didn't know a lot about doulas; I just knew I wanted all the expert support I could get going through my first pregnancy and labor. My understanding of Doula meant home birth with a midwife, but I planned to give birth at TMC with my OB.  I first contacted Kelsey through her website (after thoroughly stalking her Instagram hygge.birth.services) when I was about three months pregnant; we scheduled a video call meeting to get to know her. After our initial call, Kelsey left her email and phone open for any follow-up questions we might have while deciding whether to become her client. Kelsey's service offerings are comprehensive, and we opted for her Complete Birth and Postpartum Support Package. While I was Kelsey's primary client, my husband also benefitted greatly from her support. We had a group text throughout the pregnancy to address any questions or concerns, ensuring we were both well-informed and prepared. Kelsey's support was instrumental in keeping us on the same page, especially when I went into labor and was unable to communicate as effectively.  Even if you're not interested in a doula for your entire pregnancy journey, I highly recommend taking Kelsey's Childbirth Education Course (CBE). She offers private sessions in your home. She is offering a reduced rate as she is in training, which is a fantastic deal. I wish we had started her CBE course when we were family planning; there is so much information that would've been really helpful in the early days of our pregnancy. Even starting when we did, around 6 months, there was still an abundance of information we took away from it. Taking her course would also be a great way to get to know Kelsey if you're not sure you need a Doula yet. On our second night home with our baby girl, she wouldn't stop crying, and my husband and I were at our wit's end. The "5 S's" weren't working. I sent Kelsey a frantic text at 11 p.m., and to my surprise, she quickly responded with encouragement and guidance. I'm sure that isn't always possible, but that's just one example of how Kelsey goes above and beyond to support her clients. Kelsey is also an amazing Mama. With a toddler and infant, she's in the thick of parenthood, which is just an added bonus. She is also very organized, which was helpful for my very disorganized personality. Although our formal package with Kelsey has ended, we will stay in touch. I plan to hire her for additional postpartum support visits. She's kind, caring, compassionate, and a great advocate. After a long, hard early labor our birth plan changed while at the hospital. Our doulas were there to help us discuss our options and give us space and guidance to make the best choices for us and our baby. It wasn't the birth we initially planned for, but it was the most empowered and in control birth I've had. Mona did our placenta encapsulation and they have been a wonderful supplement to my postpartum nutrition! If we ever have another baby this will be the first call we make!

However, my birthing experience was pretty good with a few hiccups. Birthing experience: my nurses were phenomenal. They were caring and accommodating. When complications arose, the physician on call was flexible and did pivot. I don't want to imagine what my delivery would have been like without Stephanie. She's literally an angel. But honestly all of my team was amazing and went above and beyond. After birth: mom and baby unit I had extremely caring nurses and patient care technicians. They made me experience 10x better. I was proved otherwise after a rough first few days home, followed by a pediatrician's visit. My baby girl had lost a little over 10% of her weight in the first few days of life. The pediatrician recommended that I start feeding with a combo of formula. However, I was hesitant to move on to formula right away, given everything I'd heard in the breastfeeding community. There are so many mixed messages out there. I was so lucky that my Doula referred us to Katie, a registered nurse and certified lactation consultant. She did home visits, and since I was so stressed and tired, a home visit was a lifesaver. Katie was able to come that same evening; I couldn't believe it. After a weighted feeding, we discovered I was seriously underproducing, and my baby girl was hungry. It was such an emotional time for us; Katie was compassionate and kind as I sobbed in my living room. She stayed longer to ensure we had everything needed to get our baby girl through the night. She taught us about formula and bottles and even showed me how to work my pump so I could start pumping immediately. Katie came again the next day to ensure baby gained some weight through the night and continued to follow up weekly as we monitored my supply and baby's weight. Katie helped me learn that some of my health history likely was the reason I was underproducing and wouldn't ever be able to pump enough to bring my supply up to breastfeed exclusively. She knows so much about breastfeeding. I had no idea about the complexity of breastfeeding. It's incredible what Katie understands from observing baby feed, assessing her movement, etcetera. We have continued to meet with Katie, and now our little one is almost two months old and thriving. I'd been having latching issues on one side; Katie kept following up on it and discovered that the baby was having some neck issues, potentially torticollis. As her neck tension wasn't improving, Katie referred us to physical therapy but gave us some alternative feeding methods until we could get her into physical therapy. One day using Katie's advice, we are already seeing improvements in baby's mood. I should have met with Katie during pregnancy so I had support set up in advance regardless of what happened; thank goodness I could see her when I did. Call her if you need help; you'll be so happy you did!

The breastfeeding journey that a person goes through postpartum is definitely not something one can…read morefully prepare for. I had a C-section and things didn't go as planned, which made it very difficult to feed my baby in the beginning. At the hospital I was scared and we ultimately had to give the baby donor milk in order to feed her. I tried getting her to latch and ended up causing damage. The hospital was so short-staffed, that they weren't able to provide a lactation consultant until the day before discharge and by then we were already 3 days into her getting donor milk via a bottle. Once I was at home, I felt hopeless. I felt like there's no way I was going to be able to breastfeed my daughter or even pump enough to provide breast milk for her. They sent me home on the agreement that I would give her formula until my milk came in. For the first two weeks of her life I was barely pumping enough to feed her. That is when I found Katie through The Lactation Network. Her lactation consultation services have helped me on this journey and it has been a night and day difference. I noticed improvement after just the first consultation appointment. It turns out, it was a combination of factors that were affecting my supply and output. Flange size, frequency of pumping, and even my mental health was affecting it. Weighted feeds also really helped to show me how much my daughter was actually consuming when latched. Throughout the entire process, Katie helped us to feel so comfortable and reassured. She never made me feel rushed or pressured to do anything at a certain pace. Now I feel more confident that I can provide for my daughter. She is also very attentive to partners being there as well. My husband is my rock and goes with me to every appointment. He felt that he was listened to and that Katie truly cared about his input as well. We have attended both in-office and at-home visits with Katie. It was very calm and serene in the office and at home Katie made us feel very comfortable with the process. If I hadn't have sought out Katie's help, I probably would have given up before I even had a chance to see what I could provide for my daughter. I am so thankful for the services that Katie have provided thus far. Even though she tells me it is me doing the work, I still couldn't have mentally and physically come this far without her help. If you are struggling with any part of your breastfeeding journey, I highly suggest reaching out to Katie for help.

Then she moved her office to the TMC area and I chose that opportunity to find someone else closer to home. Maybe she's great if you're having babies, I wouldn't know. But I wasn't worth spending time on, apparently.
