Besides my weekly supermarket runs for the usual fridge and pantry basics elsewhere, Mother Earth, at the Kings Mall in Kingston, NY goes beyond the usual organic veg. I know I could easily run to Vitamin Shoppe for my fish oil, rosehip oil, sea moss or natural hair and beauty products- but honestly, I'd rather keep supporting Mother Earth . Every so often when I'm catching up with other shops in Kings Mall, I come here to stock up on a few things. While prices are on the high side, the selections make it worth it. When I stopped by recently, I got one of their smoothies, which was super delicious. They also have nice fresh-pressed juice, pastries and hot meal menus. Bigger applause for catering to Vegans and Vegetarians as well. Mother Earth feels like a one-stop shop. The shelves are filled with everything from supplements and herbs to skincare and unique natural products I won't find in any store- not even Vitamin Shoppe. The environment is warm, earthy and inviting- and can tell they care about what they offer. read more

The variety and quality of their stock is good, and the store is spacious and appealing. Some of the pricing however, is unconscionable, especially with Adam's and several large supermarkets in close proximity. For example, a quart of Fage Best Self Lactose Free yogurt can be purchased at Price Chopper for $7.99. At Mother Earth, it is sold for $14.49. A pint of organic blueberries sold today for almost $10 as opposed to under $6 at Adams, and the ones at Adams are larger and plumper. I expect higher prices at a market specializing in organic foods, but the disparity makes this store out of reach except for a few of the hardest to find products. read more

Got food at the hot bar today. yum. Jerk chicken - not hot spicy at all. I was expecting hotter spicier and drier. It was delicious. Yum. (Maybe I read the name wrong?) Puréed sweet potatoes- yum. Veggie mix - yum. Zucchini - very mild tasting but good . My lunch made me very happy and was healthy. I got the whole meal plus organic bottled iced tea plus a gluten free vegan blonde for dessert later for $18 and change. I feel this is noteworthy as my other idea for lunch was a different place and a vegan burger, fries and iced tea for the same price. I am trying to do better with my quick lunch options. Love this place, I can find all my organic spices, cheeses, fruits and vegetables as well as medicine and cleaning products. The staff are very attractive and I just love going in there cause I always find new things. Their bake good and coffee are great too. I wish I had one closer to me but any time I'm in Kingston I make sure to stop by. read more

Provides a very positive customer experience across many levels. Employees are friendly, the stock is well laced out and organized. The selection was practically overwhelming. I cannot comment on price because I really didn't pay attention once I was immersed in the seductively positive atmosphere of this impeccably clean store. Payed $18/lb for dark chocolate coated giant cashews. These were incredible and represented the contents of just one of dozens and dozens of goody-filled indulgences. Mother Earth's has it all, it seems. A generous selection of fresh produce, a large selection of prepared foods, two baked goods areas (one vegan and one non vegan, I'm sure GF is in there, too), health & beauty, an insane array of vitamins, pro biotics, protein powders etc. And groceries galore. Kingston is lucky to have such a great alternative to Whole Foods, and I'm slightly envious, although I like the three smaller health food store that are closer to my house. But what those three stores do not have make Mother Earth's now a destination market for me: Cheezehound vegan cheeses! Made in the upper Hudson Valley in Fleischmann's, these vegan cheeses are extraordinary. I had first tried it mail order from Riverdel in NYC, but that 30 dollar shipping fee had given me much pause, despite this being amongst the best vegan cheese that I've ever had. Mother Earth had 3 or 4 varieties on the day I was there and I grabbed both the truffle and herbs d'Provence varieties. Unbelievable that this rich cheese is non dairy. It's not cheap at almost 15 bucks a pop, but given that it is a generous amount and so rich that you likely not gorging on it all at once, it's worth it. I'm also very into vegan ice cream and they have a nice selection here, with some local artisanal brands unfamiliar to me until now. I didn't have time to peruse the entire store, but I am sure I'll be back soon. This would be a five star experience but the check out area is chaotic (is it a Kingston thing to cut lines? Infuriating) and slow-moving. Luckily they finally put on an extra cashier because the two lines were endless. read more

I frequently shop at this store practically every day and have become well known by most of it's employees. The store has a very friendly retail staff with excellent knowledge of the products in every area of the store. Sometimes you will hear their prices are too high, but the food will help you remain healthy and keep you from possible high medical bills associated with eating the wrong types of food. Shopping at Mother Earth is another way of avoiding the food traps of the food industry disguising its bad food selections through the method of cheap prices leading people to believe they're getting a better shopping experience. I am so thankful that someone open up my eyes to healthy food selections and put me on the path closer to what nature had intended. If you balance out the different between healthy and non-healthy eating, one lifestyle over the other will always be victorious! read more

This was my first time coming back to Mother Earth in Kingston in a long time. The food was really GOOD! I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and my uncle ordered a portabella wrap. My sandwich also had a lot of spinach leaves. If you're looking for a nutritious and delicious meal with meat or no meat, this place is perfect. read more

A very rude gentleman named John at the register refused to say "good morning" back to me after numerous attempts, so I switched registers! Additionally, there were approximately 10 people waiting outside the store this morning, 10/14/23 until 9:07 when the store finally opened! Bad, rude behavior all around. read more

My friend and I went in for lunch. We each got a tempeh reuben. They were good but I'll get right to the point. I made the mistake of getting a moreo and now my life will never be the same. It was incredible. I ate it last night and I'm still thinking about it. I have to go back soon just for another one of those. The girl at the register was incredibly friendly too. I drove 40 minutes to shop at this store. I was looking fir a specialty item I'm 65 , obviously handicapped & overly cautious in these pandemic times. I pick my shopping times & stores carefully. couldn't find the item I asked an employee. She pointed to the aisle I had just come from, a huge aisle with thousands of supplements. I looked again. I asked another employee. She said " if we have it it's over there" & pointed. I spent another 10 minutes totally lost in a sea of bottles I then asked another employee " can you please help me find this". She walked away I put my basket of items down right there & walked out I will never step foot in this store again I made a huge mistake coming here & will continue to support my local organic store/grocery where they know the meaning of customer service & actually help their customers read more

This was my first visit to the Kingston store in many years, as the store in Poughkeepsie is much more convenient for me. I'm pretty sure it's larger now, and even though I only buy specific things at Mother Earth's in general, I was impressed with the selection. I usually love this place but my friend and I showed up about half an hour to closing... I don't recommend going to the deli then all the workers are tired and rude at that time. I work in customer service too but my vegan meatball Parmesan was given to me literally with one meatball and bread - no cheese and literally no sauce! Popped in here to pick up an herbal supplement and was blown away by the variety. The selection for supplements is amazing and the bulk raw items plentiful. For an in and out errand, I spent almost an hour here. This is definitely the place to go if you are in the area for a vegan lunch as well. This explains why lines are long!! Second day in a row, every table in cafe is filthy. Second day in a row I had to ask for one to be cleaned. I informed a manager that there were no clean tables. I figured she would take care of it. She didn't. Had to ask her a second time and she was like, "oh you need a clean table now?" Um... yeah! I just don't get it. Cleaning tables and sweeping under tables should be something that happens all day long. There should be a dedicated employee for that task alone. The seating area is consistently disgusting, consistently! To top of off, the woman who cleaned my table for the second day in a row, was huffing about it like it was an imposition. It doesn't matter how good the food is, if you miss the mark with cleanliness, then the entire experience is crap. Wish I had taken a video of all the tables and chairs. So gross. I haven't eaten at the lunch counter/coffee bar, this review is honestly mostly about the bulk section. Which is glorious. Besides the usually coffee, nuts, seeds, beans, grains, rice - some candy, dried fruits, pastas, teas, spices, even a couple kinds of clay! On tap kombucha (a couple flavors), grind your own peanut butter and almond butter, olive oils (a couple "flavors") and balsamic vinegars, again, a couple flavors. Some people noted that things are more expensive than Amazon or other stores - I feel like this is a "specialty store," and as a matter of convenience, there's an upcharge. In a pinch, it's there. I love this store for my bulk and sometimes hard to find ingredients. I didn't notice a scale for weighing my jars in the bulk section, I've always had a cashier do it, but sometimes the line deters people. read more

I shop here for the items I can't get anywhere else locally but the employee culture needs to be improved... a handful are kind but most of them have a terrible attitude which makes shopping for my food feel like a downer. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is the incredible herbal and supplements section they have. It's probably by far one of the largest ones in the area. The guy who is there is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The tea and spice sections are well stocked with a variety of selections. That's the only reason I go. They recently renovated the cafe, which has quickly become my area lunch fix, for THE SALAD BAR. It's epic. Eden-like. Hyper-fresh with like twenty-five ingredients, some prepared, all lovingly maintained and fussed over by that Salad Goddess lady. So many delights! The pickled hot red peppers. The poached potatoes in vinaigrette. The creamy garlicky house hummus. That amazing curried TVP stuff. And all your leafy green and rootsy and nightshady standards, chiffonaded and julienned with nary a wilt or speckle of brown. This is not a parody post. I am in love. With this salad bar. read more

I love this store. Great selection of product fresh, bulk and packaged. While some prices are higher than elsewhere, it is great to be able to get almost everything in one place. Absolutely great supplement section. People in the store are so helpful and will find others to help if they can't answer your question. We are on our honeymoon and needed some food to stock our cabin for the week. We are transitioning to a vegan diet and needed items that we couldn't find at the basic grocery store. We found Mother Earth's Storehouse and we were excited. Our excitement went away fast. The store was dirty and had the most obnoxious customers. Once we started looking at the prices we were shocked! We get our groceries at Whole Foods and expected the prices to be similar. They were not even in the same ballpark. Toothpaste was $9 and vegan mayo was over $10. We wanted to just leave our cart of food and try to find somewhere else. Places like this make me upset because it's discouraging to people who are trying to make changes in their health. The managers at Mother Earth don't believe the coronavirus pandemic is real. They have never provided wipes for shopping cart handles, unlike their closest competitor, Adams, a couple of miles away, nor like Tops, the supermarket in Rhinebeck, and it looks like they're not going to start offering them now, when you need them nore than ever I was there yesterday, 3/13/2020, for bulk almonds, butter, milk, and eggs. (I brought my own wipes for my shopping cart.) Long lines of people, up close and personal, the possibly infected right next to the uninfected, at the too-few checkout cash registers they have. I returned my items to the shelf (except the almonds, which I abandoned in the bulk-items area) and quickly left. Mother Earth is nowhere close in overall quality to Whole Foods in Albany, 50 miles away from Rhinebeck, where I live, nor Amherst, Mass., about 125 miles away. And then there's the hygiene problem. Mother Earth is run by amateurs, and right now inthe food business we need real pros. read more

I primarily come here for the cafe. I would love to shop here for produce ,supplements etc but honestly it's way too expensive . The food in the cafe is really good . I just wish there was more of a variety . It seems over the last few years they haven't changed their menu at all. The cafe staff is hit or miss . There are a few consistently friendly staff members. I would say 4 out of ten are really great. There are some however that you are almost afraid to ask anything of . They seem chronically annoyed and you better know what you want before you get to the counter because you will get the eye roll or a sideways glance if you don't . To be perfectly honest I have actually left when I have seen that certain staff members were working . Like I said the food is great but not worth the attitude that you may have to deal with. All and all is a good place to grab a quick bite when your looking for healthy , quality food. Just be prepared it's sometimes served with a side of attitude :) read more

This place was bigger then I thought it would be. There is a little cafe inside which is cool. The prices here are pretty high. Tazo Tea: $5.15 (i think it was). Arctic Zero ice cream: $5.45. Those were the things I was most interested in. They also have self serve spices which I thought was neat, and nuts and stuff. They also have the Green Works cleaning supplies, and a small section of fresh fruits and veggies. Friendly staff, and they also have a rewards card. Spend $250, get $10 coupon which is easy to do with the prices here. Other then the price, this place is pretty good. read more

Have a hundred dollar bill bring it. with you Its expensive but the produce is so sweet it tastes like you picked it off the tree. In fact the produce section is fabulous. They even had dandelions, and not those huge dandelion leaves most grocery stores sell and you can't make a salad. The apricots were so sweet...exceptional. I bought some spices and crystallized ginger which was good. Then my friend and I went to the deli for a tuna sandwich on toasted bread. I have NEVER had a tuna sandwich so GOOD. Buyer beware! This store has a whole lot of nothing and a total waste of space. Gluten free cracked pepper crackers at other natural stores are $4.40 but here they are $5.39. Organic turkey bacon at other stores $7.39 but at this store $8.49. Not only is everything overpriced, the cash registers are slow and the girl (Micallah) on duty that day refused to pack our groceries. She complained that she had a long day and was very tired. It's the closest we've got to a Whole Foods in the Kingston area, and it's not half bad.The mall it's in makes you wonder, but the store is big (it's grown again!), stocked and there's a good prepared food counter if you'd like to grab lunch and stay awhile. Pricey, as these things tend to be. For personality, I'd go to the Saugerties location. But for selection, this is the one you want. read more

I witnessed an employee cut his finger and continue making food. I had a piece of a glove in my food. Dirty rags were used to clean silverware, floors and counters all without being changed. I saw somebody put ham into a vegan cooking container and contaminate my vegan food. Ordered a sandwich with vegan cheese only to then find out later (in the bathroom) that it was NOT vegan cheese and 100% contained much dairy. I love this place. It's so big; it stands up to Wild Oats and Whole Foods. There is so much variety. The deli in the back is great. There are so many options every day. They even have things I can eat, and I am vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, and white flour free. My only gripe is their desserts. They bake them fresh there, but almost all of them are riddled with white flour! I thought this is a health food store! Regardless, that gripe isn't big enough to give them any less than five stars. read more

Actually this is an awesome store. To compare it this place is Whole Foods and Wild By Nature combined into a neat little package. The reason for loosing a star is the prices, they are higher than a Manhattan Whole Foods. Now let's face it, their rent is much lower than Manhattan by far (also considering it is quite a bit smaller. However if you are in the area and looking for Vegan or Vegetarian options this is your place.
