I enjoy poking around this store! The prices are high but on par with other similar whole food stores. The selection is high quality, the staff is kind and helpful, and the store is always clean. I found some really great gluten free bread and cookies, as well as some fruits. There is a lot of great stuff here besides food, such as handmade soaps and aroma therapies. This place came in very handy when looking for healthy items to stock the mini fridge with while on vacation. Bananas and organic almonds were fresh and they had a nice assortment of yogurts in stock. Brown Cow and Liberte, which I love. Was looking for Chobani, but these fit the bill just fine. This place is Fantastic and definitely my go to for groceries in the area. It's much more navigable than the larger mega groceries in the area. For pandemic times, that's a major plus. Less people, less crowds, and less stress. Plus they have all kinds of fresh vegan and organic foods you wouldn't find in the larger chains. In addition to day to day food, they have a nice selection of snacks, and a wide variety of supplements and vitamins. Keep it local & go here first for your groceries and food stuffs. read more

Today bought a frozen $2 ice cream cottage cheese bar, which I have had before and liked. And some other stuff. Eating outside. Off-taste. Ugh. I go in, show the uneaten bar, give it back, and the clerks and manager Ashley refuse to give credit. And I offered to buy a peanut butter bar, different brand, and $3. So they would not have to return $. Nope. And I told them to try a bar themselves, they refused. All they said was "you are out the $, because you opened it." The owner, Paku and others, should fire the incompetent manager. And I know times are hard, stores are concerned about hokey returns, but this was absurd. Caution: they will not care if they sell you bad food. "Tuff." ====== Btw, the new juice section is franchised out, very good, but now the whole place is tainted. My friends and fellow Yelpers! You're probably thinking, "What is Bob doing in Rhinebeck, NY of all places?" Well, I'll make the story short! Work brings me into Manhattan every once in a while and my lovely daughter who graduated college in June and married a wonderful young man in July is now living there. What? Wow! That was fast. My wonderful son-in-law who whisked my lovely baby girl off to the far reaches of the East Coast (all though that sounds bad) is teaching and getting his Master's Degree at Bard College. So, here I sit in this wonderful little country store called Sunflower Natural Foods. They carry all that you would expect from a natural foods market with fresh squeezed vegetable and fruit juices and smoothies. I also recommend the soups and salads. Many many good products BUT for the items I always shop for, it just keeps getting worse..... among the most recent this week.... Quart of organic milk - almost bought it ON the "sale by" date, with nothing fresher available. Avocados - beyond ripe and $3.00 each with nothing better to pick from. Packaged spices - Basil - was brown - and easy to see immediately. Either there's nobody working as a competent floor manager or they just don't care about freshness. The produce and food products suffer much worse than the other dry-goods, of course. read more

Every since the store changed hands a couple of years, their inventory management has gone into the hopper. If you have products you want to buy on a regular basis, find another store. Even though I live in Rhinebeck, I've begun driving to Kingston's Mother Earth to get all of the items I buy regularly such as supplements. They used to ship items over from their Woodstock store, but apparently their employees get in trouble for trying to serve their customers in this way. Once I had been trying to buy a particular well-known brand of B12 which had been out of stock for a couple of weeks. I was told they would have it shortly. The last time I checked their shelf, they had placed the item on sale--yippee, right? But guess what? They had placed an still out of stock item on sale. That's how out of touch they are. Even very common foods are not consistently stocked such as mozzarella cheese. Because its my local health food store, I really wanted the owners to get it right and wrote to them. Surprise surprise, no response. I've since given up...its just been too frustrating. At this I see no real reason to support the store. Its been a solid year of frustration. I honestly hope they sell this store to someone who cares about it and is willing to manage it properly. read more

This is the closest health food store too me. They have a decent grocery section, a cafe, and a juice bar. The area is cramped, but there is a lot in a little space. Some of their stuff is pricy, but that's a health food store in a richer upstate area. I've never been interested in the food, but often my sister gets some of their food and she usually gets what she ordered, and likes it. I tend to go for the juices, which I like, but there is a 50/50 chance one of the elements are missing. For instance, today I got a green glory and it was definitely missing the apple and was way more lemony than normal. Which, when I'm dropping $8 for a 16oz drink, I tend to get annoyed by. If this place was more consistent I would be more inclined to give them 4 stars, but they are way too pricey to be missing elements of their food. read more

Unfortunately not the store it used to be, homeopathic section is gone, lots of basic health food items like quality miso, bouillon not in stock for quite some time, well before Covid. Too many items on shelves like fresh organic meats are well past freshness dates. How many chips do we actually need? Bulk section is gone, but how about bags of former old bulk items pre-bagged and ready to sell? No body even knows what millet is? If you happen to catch produce on a delivery date great, otherwise just awful. Maybe ask the patrons what they would like to see stocked, & please no more gluten free junk food. read more

Awesome sandwiches! We stopped in this shop once for a few healthy snacks and again for a couple of sandwiches for our trip out of town. Very nice shop. They had Kombucha "on tap", you could buy by the ounce, it was great! They had some local baked items to include gluten free. They have a small kitchen where they make smoothies and sandwiches. I have to brag on the sandwiches we purchased. I was unavailable to go to the store, so I told my husband to get me "something" with a gluten free wrap. This can be kind of risky! The sandwich was honestly one of the best I have ever had. It was on gluten free bread, with avocado, dark green lettuce, sunflower seeds and a cheese that was smoked or grilled. I want to like this place much more than I do. It's really the only local place to get organic goods but there are three things that deter me: 1. It's way too expensive and even the sale prices are above what regular stores cost. 2. The last three times, the cheese and fruit that I've purchased has been moldy by the time I get it home (five minutes later). Second, I was at an event in the area recently and was talking with two people who happened to be former employees and both of them were saying that it's a terrible place to work. They were asked to come in after closing hours and not offered overtime, and just in general said it was a crappy place to work. In my book, you can't be an establishment that claims to be interested in environmental justice and not have good labor politics. I'll keep going here off and on but more for lack of a better option than any sense of loyalty. I look forward to a day when Rhinebeck can offer anything else competitive and break the store's monopoly on the genre. read more

I go to Sunflower a few times a week. I shop for produce as well as take out food. The staff is always happy to help. The food is fresh and the take out tasty. The store is clean and well organized. I think they have a great variety of products and have good sales. I feel lucky to have this store in the village of Rhinebeck. read more

Amazing smoothies! Fairly priced groceries with amazing organic selection in such a relatively small space! Produce is excellent quality (I haven't had a grapefruit like that in so long!).
