First time here! The pastries are great--I tried the Bearclaw and the croissant, and both were absolutely delicious. The bakery has a cool open-concept layout where you can see the staff cooking and baking. However, the open kitchen also revealed some pretty noticeable hygiene issues. I noticed the staff preparing food without gloves, and I even watched an employee eat a tortilla while actively assembling burritos. Additionally, no one was wearing hairnets or hair restraints. Beyond that, seating is very limited (similar to other Bearcat locations), so I highly recommend ordering to-go! read more

We thought 45 mins would be enough for a fast-casual spot but the food took so long to come out we had to call an uber to our next location and eat in the car. One of the employees (didn't catch his name) recommended the Coconut Donut and Pain Au Chocolat as that's what Bearcat is known for. I grabbed a Maple & Sage Latte for myself along with five different pastries - Everything Bagel Bun, Pepper Jelly Cream Cheese Bun, Pain Au Chocolat, Bear Claw w/ Almond Filling, and Sweet Bun. Absolutely loved my time here! Went on a little brunch date this afternoon and we had a great time! Although it was downtown NOLA, we found a sound place to park right down the street from here. As we walked in, we were immediately hit with a wave of hot pastries being made and coffee being brewed -- Absolutely love that smell! Originally, I planned to get some pastries and try a selection of drinks but then we realized they serve the full menu of Bearcat brunch so we got the Hot Chicken sandwich and Classic Bearcat breakfast. For food, I'd give it a 8/10 but I would still go back for more! The Hot chicken came out to be a large sandwich with a side of their potatoes. The chicken was crispy and not too spicy, but a little bit more on the charred side for cooking. The classic breakfast is always a hit in my books but the bacon was more well done than i'd like. Why wait in line at the restaurant when you can sneak right in here for the same quality food, a large selection of baked goods, and your morning coffee. I'll admit, there were 6-7 people in front of us at 8am when they opened the doors, but the line moved quick and most people took their pastries and coffee to go. That leaves you with plenty of tables and a quick turn on the breakfast menu. Pancakes were nice and the fresh blueberries are a great addition. However, the breakfast sando was the true standout - the eggs were light, the sausage tasted freshly made and perfectly spiced, and the biscuit was deliciously buttery. I grabbed an eggnog and white chocolate cookie that came across like a lightly dressed up sugar cookie, but I'd gladly go back and try all of the other pasties. I promise you, Bearcat can do no wrong. I wasn't aware that the bakery also offers the same menu served at their full service restaurant around the corner, so if you're in a pinch and cannot wait for a table (though, hooray, they now use No Wait which makes life so much easier), you can still get your insanely amazing breakfast potato fix in a jiffy. We stopped by because we had just put our names in at the restaurant and we were dying for some post Halloween caffeine on Saturday morning. We had a moment of reverent silence for the gorgeous vegan apple cinnamon muffin that was on display, before coming to terms with reality: we had a large brunch and I ordered my favorite rose latte. Cold drinks (including bottles of bubbly and very expensive orange juice) are available in the fridges. Seating is casual, first come, first served and despite it being a busy weekend in town, there was plenty of it. I prefer the experience of the restaurant (especially that glorious back patio) but it's cool to know this is an option for a meal rather than just baked goods (though I still can't get that muffin out of my head. I arrived to Bearcat Baked before 9am on a Saturday and waited in line for about 10-15 minutes to order. Not bad considering its overwhelming popularity! There were an array of tables/chairs for dining in/brunch, though many of the visitors took their food and drink to go. That was the plan for me until the unexpected happened. I ordered a savory bun and a Purple Mountain (ube cream on a london fog - incredible and unique). I also ordered a build-your-own breakfast sandwich. The lovely staff member asked if I wanted my egg in the sandwich to be scrambled or sunny side up - casually. I figured that if she gave me this choice, then the egg should at least hold up well in the sandwich if it were sunny side up. I was wrong. When I received the sandwich in the to-go box, it had already been cut in half and the egg yolk was not even remotely solidified. It was extremely messy and liquid and saturated the entire bottom slice of bread. Mind you, someone had cut the sandwich, saw the egg yolk carnage, and thought "this is fine." Maybe it was my own naivete, but that's how I ended up with egg on my face (literally) and eating a deconstructed breakfast sandwich. BUT - it was still extremely delicious. Takeaway: get the breakfast sandwich! Do not get sunny side up egg! read more

There is absolutely no sense of urgency. None. Additionally we were intentionally lied to - Ordered 2 coffees and confirmed they had 1/2 & 1/2 and were told "yes". When we received the coffee we saw milk was poured into the cups (there's an obvious difference between milk and 1/2 & 1/2) when asked we were told "ya, I said yes to 1/2 and 1/2, but we don't have any" as if (1) lying to customers and (2) paying for something that was prepared differently than what was ordered were customary and almost expected. There was no apology and instead we were made to feel like the inconvenience. The croissants were delicious and the $8 oj also very good. But it's hard to remember those things when the experience was so awful. We won't be back. read more

Bearcat Cafe was jam packed with a long line and wait list for lunch, so we walked a block to their sister branch Bearcat Baked. So glad we did! Ample empty tables and a chiller vibe. They serve a similar menu, along with fresh baked goodies. Service was quick. Staff were friendlier and less harried. I loved BC's shrimp & grits and it was available here. Shrimp were plump, juicy and cooked just right, although the sauce tasted a bit different than the cafe's. Grits were oddly cold in one spot in the bowl. Also had an Americano and a slice of coffee cake -- a lovely finish to the meal. Bearcat Baked only had blueberry muffins and coffee cake in the pastry display case by early afternoon. My party tried an iced vanilla latte and maple latte with sage. Their espresso is excellent and the drinks were tasty and well crafted--it takes a few minutes to get your drink order, but it's worth the wait! We also tried the coffee cake and bearclaw. While both items were a tad dry, they were full of flavor and served in large, shareable portions. They had many other pastries that looked good and their sandwiches smelled amazing too. I very rarely ever post reviews for restaurants because I am very rarely impressed by the cost to taste ratio or just the taste in general. But this was a 10 out of 10 on cost and taste. I got the spicy chicken sandwich with potatoes and I started with the potatoes that out Uber driver raved about and he was 100% correct. Everything was flavorful with a good crisp and overall balance. The worker that took our order was very helpful and friendly as well. He even helped point out some other restaurants for us to visit on our trip here, and even the cook was friendly and responsive when addressed about the food. Easily a 5 star bakery. Visiting from San Diego and even though we have many cafes and bakeries there, everything I had at Bearcat was PHENOMENAL! They have interesting latte flavors where the flavors work very well with each other. I tried the smoked maple sage and the black sesame chai. Each latte comes with a double espresso shot. I'm such a huge fan of Bearcat for brunch, so just had to try their bakery spot in CBD. The bakery is tucked away in a quieter area of the CBD, but not far from the trolley / bus stops and walking distance from the French Quarter. Other than Cafe du Monde, there's really limited spots in the Quarter / CBD for quality baked goods at reasonable prices. Love that they don't try to gouge you here with tourist mark-ups. It's a great option to add to the FQ / CBD rotation. Everything is super reasonably priced - especially the pastries. I tried the S'mores croissant, sausage roll, and sourdough bread. The prices were on par with the local bakeries in New Orleans. Super reasonable too considering the location and the size of the pastries. The S'mores croissant was huge - reminded me of the massive croissants in Houston from Common Bond. If you know Common Bond, you know what I'm talking about. The croissant was double the size of a traditional croissant. Amazingly it was not too sweet and was a light bite surprisingly - I decided to cut mine in half so I could enjoy the rest of the baked goods that I bought that day. The sweetness of the marshmallow top / ganache filling were balanced by the plain croissant. My favorite of the bunch though was the sausage roll - it was perfect balance and size. The super buttery flaky pastry against the dense rich sausage. It was surprisingly super moist. There were so many options to choose from that next time will take more pictures of. Next visit - I definitely want to try the bear claw and seasonal danishes. read more
