LOVE!! This was a short walk away from my hotel and I was on a mission to try all the different beignet styles. The first few times I walked past, it had a huge line so when it was short I knew it was my time! They had a cute seating area outside in a garden and inside as well. The orders took around 5 minutes which was fine with me. I loved this style, it was super hot and doughy like a thick donut. It was my personal favorite style, I ended up going three times in one week. LOL Only critique is that I wish they were more generous with the powdered sugar but still, what a special sweet treat! The best part of Hot Benny's is how conveniently located it is amongst the chaos of Mardi Gras. Located right across from Caesars and right on Tchoupitoulas St. (where the parade makes a turn), this place offers a quick escape from everything around you. We came in looking to try some beignets and a coffee as well. The shop itself is pretty small but they do have an outdoor area on the other side with tables and seats that's fenced in so you can catch a glimpse of everything else happening. It has some plants and a fountain giving a kind of serene peace amongst the Mardi Gras chaos. Ordering was quick and easy, but a heads up that they call out your order, not by name, so you have to go in and pick it up. We ordered the beignets and a latte. The latte wasn't very good, very little foam, even for a latte. The beignets were pretty good though, not the best we've had, but in a quick pinch these are very solid options. You can see the parade as it goes down the street if you peek down the alley outside too. Again, this is more of a convenience spot than anything. Being located across from Caesar's and on the parade turn makes it a great pitstop during Mardi Gras. read more

Unconscionably greedy business owner tries to hide credit card surcharge by not disclosing it to the customer as a distinct charge on either the menu or payment screen. The only way to see it before payment is to calculate the difference between the sum of "subtotal and tax" and "credit total". Only once the receipt is printed is it specifically labeled as a "non-cash adjustment". How ironic that the business also has a sign that cash is not accepted!! So the business owner imposes a fee for not paying with cash that the owner also refuses to accept, and doesn't disclose any of this to the customer until after payment!! I am 100% confident this violates visa, Mastercard, and Amex payment processing rules and potentially federal law. With an owner going to such extreme lengths to hide this fee and make it virtually impossible to avoid it via a specific payment type, one has to wonder what other deception may be happening behind the counter... read more

Hot Bennys helped me check an item off my NOLA bucket list, BUT I do not think they offer the best beignets in the area. The cost was a bit high (~$7 after tax for 3) for the small size of the beignets and taste. They were HOT and fresh and extremely messy so be careful so you don't get powdered sugar everywhere or burn the roof of your mouth/tips of your fingers trying to have one. It was warm inside the restaurant. Fans were blowing but it almost felt like the AC was out. The restaurant is cute on the inside and they are cashless. Overall, it is worth trying for yourself, but I found that there were other options on Canal street that gave me a better bang for my buck. read more

It took a while, with no line, so I assume they were fried up fresh. These were really good! Cost $2 more than cafe du monde- only con. But these were more pillowy soft. So it depends on your preference. Do you want some crisp in the outside? These aren't it. This was my first time at this particular beignet café. It was walking distance from our hotel, and I wanted to try another style of beignet. The dough wasn't as fluffy as the ones we had in the French Quarter, and they didn't have as much powdered sugar, but they were still tasty. I still rather go to the one in the French Quarter, the traditional/main one I guess. I wrote a review on them as well. Inside this little café, it was incredibly warm, which was great because it was freezing cold outside and they were tables and we were able to bring some tables from the outside inside to sit on them. We had a large group of 10 so it was nice that the café was accommodating for us. Everything was delicious and made in a timely matter and I wouldn't mind coming back here again. Coffee was also a little dark for my stomach but if you dip the beignets into it, it wasn't that bad. Lol. read more

OhEmGee!!! I am so happy I found Hot Benny's. Lemme fill you in on the goodness I experienced. I have been in NOLA for a week and haven't had any Dunkin at all. I've been forced to drink hotel coffee the whole week and I want to cry. As I was walking up the street I saw Benny's and decided to give it a try. The shop is super cute. Small, cute, lots of natural light and the store is super clean. I walked up to the counter and placed my order. Though it wasn't my usual Dunkin order I was excited to try something new. I ordered a "Benny's Brew" which is the famed New Orleans chicory coffee. Now, don't judge me but I had to add in a few pumps of Vanilla. The way the shop is set up, you add your own cream and sugar. As such, I walked over to the counter, added my milk and sugar and took my first sip. Whew! Is what comes to mind. The brew was fresh. The flavor profile was exciting and def has a twist. According to my research the twist is the best part of the coffee itself. "Unlike coffee being made from the coffee beans; chicory coffee is made from the roots of the flowering chicory plant. This blue flowered plant is a part of the dandelion family and can be found in several parts of the world." I had no idea about the origin of the coffee. I am so excited that I had the chance to experience the coffee and partake in a part of the culture. Oh yeah, you know I had to order me some beignets. Babeeeeeeeeeeeee!! The beignets were the BOMBBBBBBBBB Hot. Fresh. Flavorful. Crispy on the Outside. Chewy on the Inside. And most of all, they hit the spot. Flavor wise, as I am from up North, they put me in the mindset of like a mini Fried Dough but with a Puff Pastry aesthetic. Yasssssssssssss. These are def a win!! The beignets are very small and oddly hollow on the inside when you bite into one, not the pillowy, doughy texture you'd expect if you're used to Cafe du Monde. View my photo for reference. As a local, I really wanted to like it--especially for the convenient downtown location when I'm running errands or have appointments nearby--and the appealing aesthetic. The staff are inept in communication, when asking if they had mini beignet's they confirmed that, yes they do indeed serve mini beignet's... upon my mother coming in asking me if they have mini beignet's, the staff suddenly decided they do not serve mini beignet's... Asked for a refund and I was continually reminded that I did not in fact ask if they serve mini beignet's... chalking it up to miscommunication, but the attitude the server provided me with was just not necessarily and there was no concept at least, from my perception, that she had perhaps misheard what I had asked... Cold and unwelcoming staff combined with an empty venue and high prices for what is no more special than a donut. High recommend that you and anybody you're with on your trip avoid this location... unless spending disproportionate amounts of money on a donut is your thing. read more

This was a Great sweet treat that hit the spot right after eating our Savory New Orleans dinner. I'm typically not a "fried dough" type of person in general but " When in Rome " or YOLO right . The customer service was pretty straight forward. They offer both indoor & outdoor seating. There is ambient music in the background and the playlist was pretty fire. Price was standard , about $6bucks for 3 Beignets. 1 additional dollar for caramel or chocolate sauce. Whelp. It was bound to happen someday. After over a half dozen visits over two decades to New Orleans and dozens upon dozens of meals it happened. When asked by folks who've never visited what it's like I always say the same thing. "If you have a bad meal, you must have sought it out". No longer true. Are they good tasting? No. As I sat there this morning I thought maybe they have a bank tube system from Cafe DuMonde down the road to this shop. So when DuMonde fries a beignet they would reject they can just tube it down to Bennys to be served "fresh and hot". Seriously. The beignets are not good, they are half the size of DuMonde's and nearly TWICE the price. That's right, half the meal, half the quality, double the dollars.
