One of the most adorable coffee shops, this place has a huge interior, and a great vibe. They have live music, which is love to hear, and very inclusive feeling. Blondie and I were looking for a break midway through our cross country road trip, and Carthage was a great place to stop. It's always a treat to find an independent coffee shop while traveling through small town America. Just a mile off I-49 and a couple of blocks from "the mother road" or the old route 66; Mother Road Coffee is a perfect alternative to c-store offerings. A quaint old store front building on the town square that offers a perfect view of what I consider the most beautiful courthouse in Missouri and one of the best in America - worthy of a side trip in-itself. My cortado was smooth and my wife's cup of drip was robust. plenty of seating options and things to look at while you enjoy a traveling break. Dropped by here to study while I was in town. There is ample seating and even a quiet conference room with books. Their internet was a little spotty and would disconnect from time to time while I was on my laptop, but it worked when it needed to. I ordered an Iced Chai Latte and my sister had their Raspberry Italian Cream Soda. I would recommend the soda if you're not into coffee. read more

I'd have given this place 5 stars if not for the attitude of the employee, there was something in her tone that was unfriendly. It's just not hard to be friendly and she is the ambassador for the shop. With the location on the square she really is also an ambassador for the town. We had wanted a bite to eat, it was late afternoon, and learned they had stopped serving lunch earlier. My latte was as good as I've had and my husband's espresso was also good. The space is excellent and the boutique attached is nice. read more

Super cute and spacious coffee shop for this tiny town! I just srove by when passing thru four darn states and needed coffee haha. It was clean, they have home made goodies, the staff was very sweet and they had some yummy flavors!! I got the vanilla honey lacender latte made with almond milk cause lavender honey is so good but I wanted to see what itd be like with vanilla! They have some sugar free options and they can mix whatever flavors you'd like from their menu! I bought their peanut clusters and brownies and they were suuuupppeerr yummy!!! Kind stuff and peaceful atmosphere, what most would like from a cafe. The decor is fitting and seating is comfortable, as well as kept quite clean. As for drink selection, they have the usual coffee drinks that most would order, along with an extensive selection of unique flavors. One of my favorite aspects of the place is their unique pastries they have now and then, such as tiramisu cake and cinnamon twists. Mother Road is always my go to coffee shop here in Carthage, and I hope it stays that way! read more

Lovely little coffee shop on the Carthage Square. The ladies working here are really sweet! Since we were visiting from KC, they recommend things for us to do around the square. This place offers coffee, flavored Italian soda and various bakery treats. They also do a soup of the day. I got a coconut vanilla Italian soda; yum! read more

Grew up in Carthage and Mother Road was amazing under the previous owners. I don't think it'll last under the current owners, especially with all the other coffee shops Carthage has to offer now. When getting an iced coffee they don't even use fresh shots of espresso, seems like they are trying to save money or something because the taste doesn't compare. The employees are not cheerful at all, rather an unfriendly attitude towards customers. Went on a slow Saturday morning and only one customer in front of me, but I wanted more than 10 minutes for a coffee. It doesn't even feel as clean inside anymore. If you are looking for a good cup of coffee, this isn't the place anymore. I hope they figure it out because I'd hate to see it go under. read more

We stopped here on a day trip and loved our experience. The barista was pleasant and personable. My husband doesn't drink coffee so he ordered a tea. When she brought it out she made sure to tell him exactly how long he should leave the tea bag to steep. He always wonders this when ordering tea from places and we both appreciated her attention to detail to mention this unprompted. read more

Very pleasant hole in the wall coffee shop. I stopped in to kill a few hours between depositions, and they let me use the room in the back so that I can have some privacy. They even checked on me to make sure everything was OK. All for the cost of one cup of coffee. Excellent, personalized service! The only true barista service in Carthage serving a variety of lattes, smoothies and house blends. I recommend the Mother Road Mocha. Pretty cafe where we waited out a rainstorm. Has great old pictures, a map where visitors from all over the world mark where they're from, a few outdoor seats with a nice view of the courthouse, and COFFEE. If you're traveling Route 66, be sure to stop at Red Oak II a short drive from here to stretch your legs and be transported back in time! Carthage is enchanting. read more
