We went to The Bruncheonette after a long hot weekend floating on the river. Everyone there was super friendly and welcoming it felt like eating with your family. The food was wonderful. I ordered the poutine and my friends ordered the darth vatos migas and biscuits and gravy. Everything we ate was so good and very cheap considering the food they give you and what it seemed like everything being made in house. After brunch we went to our cars and one of our cars would not start and the workers there even came out to help us. They are above and beyond on service and food! I wish this place wasn't so far away from us because I would come everyday! But we will be back after our next float trip! read more

I had a horrible experience there a few years back. I'm not one to even leave restaurant reviews, so I never posted. After seeing Bruncheonette recommended while on social media recently, I read a conversation w/ mixed reviews. Most of the negative reviews involved rudeness from staff, & several w/ undercooked eggs being served many times. I decided it was time to share my experience. I had been a fan of this place. I'd enjoyed stopping by many times, w/ family, or meeting up w/ friends. I was going through a difficulty in life at the time. I'm not one to dine alone, but decided I'd go get breakfast there on my own one Sunday. I looked forward to it. My impression is breakfast places serve a weekend brunch until 2:00pm. This place doesn't. That's entirely fine! They get to choose their hours. I'm cool with that. I walked into their restaurant in the rain, feeling the pain of what I had been facing in life. I didn't really focus on the fact it was 12:45 and they close at 1:00. The woman behind the counter gave a strong first impression. She seemed annoyed. I had no clue why. I stood looking at the menu and was interrupted by her asking if I was going to order. When I looked at her, I noticed several workers, males, standing behind her staring at me. Wanting to try something new I felt rushed/embarrassed, so I just went with a favorite of mine. There was a trash bin next to the guys. In it I could see a pile of poached eggs on top of the rubbish. Maybe a bad batch of eggs? Who knows? I ordered. There was a very cold & annoyed spirit in the woman & the guys behind her from the moment I had walked in. Not one person mentioned the time, or that they were bothered over the timing of my visit. Thinking they close at 2:00 I was left completely in the dark wondering if something had happened among them just before I entered, because again I had no clue I was nearing their closing hour. My bad? Maybe? I thought the staff had just had a fight or quarrel or something & they were maybe trying to stifle that in front of a customer. With everything I was facing on that day, personally, I have to say, you never know what people are dealing with in life. Why not be kind? Why not just offer a smile & say, "Okay, just so you know, we're closing in 15 minutes so our menu may be limited. How can I help you?" Instead, it was mind games & unspoken annoyance on display. I ordered the Benny Harper, my favorite. Having no idea what was going on w/ them, I got my coffee at their coffee station. The dining room was filled w/ customers eating. Every table full. So I sat at the wall at a bar with a stool there. After a time, a waitress brought my order out. It was a plate w/ a dry english muffin topped with scrambled eggs. Plain. No hollandaise for the "benedict" order I placed, no poached egg, none of the listed ingredients/toppings. I thought she brought me someone else's order by mistake. She stood staring at me. I said, "Oh, I don't think this is mine. I'm sorry. I ordered the Benny Harper eggs benedict." She rudely said, "Right, and you ordered that 10 minutes before we close. So, this is your order." I remembered it was actually 12:45 when I entered. Maybe by the time I ordered it could have been 12:50? Not sure on the exact minute. But, I'm entirely sure on the rude, cold, inconsiderate service ALL the way around. I had already paid for my order. I apologized and said, "I'm so sorry, what time do you close?" She said, "We close at 1pm. It's posted on the door you entered through. You should have seen that." I did not want a fight. I just felt punched in the gut. She walked away. I silently left the food on the bar & walked out to my car. There, embarrassingly, I had a good cry. Not over food! I was just in true disbelief that people can be this cold, this unkind, this rude without caring for others. Again, that was years back. I guess I saw what I needed to see. As I looked through the similar rude experiences shared in other 1 & 2 star reviews it really saddens me. I've never gone back. Never will. All my family stopped going. Several of my friends were shocked & said they'd never go back. A few of them remembered being handled rudely there. Maybe the saddest reality in it all, is these people do not care. In all the other reviews not once did I see the owner offer a response that included an apology & an invitation to come back & let them make it right. Which happens all over the place on Yelp. Pretty strange behavior. It boils down to their being satisfied w/ themselves & the number of fans/customers they have. They have an incredibly small restaurant, so it's always full. As long as they fill their seats it's clear they do not care about the rudeness problem in their staff & workers. They simply don't care how customers are treated. The woman who delivered my food & smarted off to me seemed proud of her behavior. The guys in back just stared me down as I walked out. Like it was a game to them. So entirely sad. read more

Joplin happens to be a good midway point for my wife and I to meet up with our daughter and her family. Looking for a new and fun place to meet up for this latest trip, we stumbled across The Bruncheonette in Yelp. Sooooo thankful we did. It's located at the northern edge of downtown Joplin on main street. It's a small quaint place with both on and off-street parking. We could tell immediately that we'd made a popular choice based upon the large number of cars and folks waiting to get a seat. The hostess welcomed us just outside the front door and us we'd be seated shortly. She was great and very nice to chat with. We had to wait outside a short bit before we were escorted inside. The space and seating is limited for sure. There are tables as well as some bar-style seating along the edges of the restaurant. The environment was busy, fun and lively. Our granddaughter loved all the action. The person who escorted us in then actually took the extra time to explain their menu and options, which are posted on boards above the checkout counter. The menu is limited and made up of a combo of traditional lunch/brunch items. But they are all done with a unique and delicious flair. Sort of a twist on the traditional bunch options. All of us enjoyed our meals. We had breakfast street tacos, a salmon cake eggs Benedict special, French toast, the fruit plate and a pancake. All of the portions were good sized, ingredients fresh and tasted great. They even went the extra step to bring our granddaughter some fried cheese to munch on. Very kind. I also got a laugh out of the fun pictures in the bathroom as well. Hilarious. The restaurants location allowed us to enjoy a stroll around the downtown area afterward brunch. My husband and I love discovering local spots when we travel, and The Bruncheonette was an absolute gem. As soon as we walked in, we were warmly welcomed and asked if we had visited before. When we said no, the chef walked us through the menu, highlighting their locally sourced ingredients. I ordered the pancakes because I was eager to try the house-made syrup--and it absolutely lived up to the hype. My husband went with the pulled pork pancakes and loved them. We also tried the carrot fries, which were delicious. Overall, it was a fantastic experience with great food and a welcoming atmosphere. This place was amazing! The biscuits are homemade and soo good under that gravy- don't be afraid of the chorizo bits- it's not too spicy. My kids loved the pancakes and fruit, and the Migas were soo flavorful. Fast service! My FIL wanted something more simple and they immediately remade his meal which I thought was so sweet. While this was only our second time here as I do not live locally, I can say this restaurant has been so perfect that they will be a specifically made pit stop on all future trips! Such a cozy place to have breakfast & brunch. The Lobster Benny was very tasty! The staff are so helpful and nice to explain the menu and check on us. This restaurant also allows to do the half order which is awesome! Since the place is small, you will have to wait outside until the host allows you in, and the seating is limited, but we have a side table facing the outside view. Wow, what a find! This is our breakfast stop on our first day of our Rte. 66 trip and what a way to begin! RRR and I split three items, the GardenBenny, the Hey, Brah (Hawaiian bread French toast), and the side of fruit. The Garden Benny was awesome with asparagus, tomato, avocado, sprouts and a beautifully poached egg, all topped with a beet hollandaise (don't judge in advance, SO good! ) They were so kind to split this for us. The Hey Brah was also amazing, topped with sliced bananas and served with syrup (did I overhear this is house-made?) My only issue was the centers were underdone but we still enjoyed it. The highlight for me was the high quality service at this trendy brunch spot. From the personal, detailed explanation of the menu as we waited in line to order, to the fast paced delivery of our food and condiments, the attentive but not overbearing server really impressed me. Prices seemed fair as well at around $10-14 per person for a filling meal. Although the parking lot was full when we arrived on a Sunday morning, we only waited maybe 5 minutes to get seated. Everything was smooth and pleasant logistically. The food itself was decent and delivers on what the menu promises. Both the pancakes and french toast were somewhat bland in our opinion, but syrup certainly helped to mask this. The fruit plate was a little sad - just a cut up avocado half, a sliced banana, and some pineapple slices on a small side plate. Overall, not the best but not bad by any means. We ordered the Hey Brah!, the Benny Harper and shared a beautiful fresh garden tomato salad topped with parm and balsamic drizzle. They were very attentive throughout our meal and made sure coffee was full and tables were cleaned promptly. The wife has been pushing to get me to come here but getting her out of bed early enough to beat the crowd is the challenge. Finally made plans this last weekend to go and we got there and was 3 in line. We got the B.A. Baracus Migas and the Hey Brah! Both were great. The house made salsa was fresh and flavorful. The eggs were scrambled just right then we go to the Hawaiian sweet bread french today with carnelian bananas and a beer syrup. Yes you are correct it's a little bite of heaven.
