Our usual go to places for food for my family and I whenever we're in Mississauga. If you're in love with dim sum and want to steam some at home youself I would definitely recommend this place. It's a small little restaurant. I went on a weekday, they were really busy with take out orders and walk ins with people getting their frozen dim sums. The only downside is they no longer have dine in available which is fine, I usually just take it to go and either eat in the car or find a park nearby. The prices have gone up a little bit over the years but that's normal with previous pandemic and inflation. It's still decent. I would say it's still the cheapest and most affordable dim sum place you can find in the area. They have the usual shrimp dumplings, siu mais, sticky rice with pork, bbq buns and plenty of other variety. We got quite a bit for lunch and also picked up some frozen ones so I can get my dim sum fixed at home. There is an assortment of dim sum here: suimai, dumplings, BBQ pork buns... It seems they are essentially frozen but can be warmed up for you. The fact that it wasn't fresh was quite evident, more so than expected. I felt like we could have warmed them up at home and it might have tasted fresher. We also had to wait quite awhile for the food to be prepared. This might a good option if you need something quick, really don't want to do it yourself, and order ahead. I found this place for dim sum for Chinese New year via Yelp. It's a great find. There was a lineup out the door. It was a bit confusing because only one person was allowed in the store at a time and the order forms were inside. I ordered shrimp dumplings, shrimp and pork shu mai (interesting they had variety of diff shu mai!), Fried shrimp dumplings, shrimp rolls, chicken feet, taro buns, shrimp spring rolls, seasame balls... Came here during COVID for take-out and they have a table outside with order sheets and mark up to submit when you're ready. With another variant going around, I wasn't about to wait until the end of the pandemic to get my dim sum fixed. And that's why I decided to come here so I can make my own dim sum. They have a decent selection of frozen dim sum here. All the usuals, such as shrimp dumplings, sumai, potstickers, lotus wrapped rice, and barbecue pork buns are all available frozen. The first time I came here, I grabbed a bunch of those and I was rather satisfied. On my second visit, I decided to try the stuff hot. However, I wasn't too impressed with some of the items that are only available prepared instead of frozen. The rice noodle roll was thick and sticky and kind of dry. The stuff that was available Frozen were about the same quality as if I had just steamed it up myself. The other prepared only options that actually impressed me was the rice cakes which was absolutely delicious, and the pork and ancient egg congee which actually used big pieces of pork. You had to be at the front to get a number and a menu to order ahead of time. I think we only waited for about 30 mins and had to squish with a random group. We didn't mind this we just wanted food lol. Everything came out in a timely manner. I enjoyed all the dishes we had. Only thing that was different to me was the shrimp and pork siu Mai. I can't explain it. Tastes different from what I'm used to. Oh. Another thing that was different was the fried taro rolls. I was expecting it to be puffy?? On our last day in Toronto we decided to grab dim sum for the last time before heading to the airport. We found this place near by and decided to try it out. The name of the store says bakery, but they have a handful selection that are self serve that you can purchase like dan ta etc. The nice thing about this place is that you can order your items and they come out fresh vs. carts going around. I noticed lot of people would come in and purchase big bags of frozen ha cao or shu mai etc to take home. Those are sold in larger quantities like 20 or 50 pcs which would be nice to have in the freezer... Too bad I don't live near there. The interior of the place... Well, it's more of a whole in the wall. It can definitely use a face lift and a good scrub down. They do offer seating and when we got there on a Saturday morning around 11:30am, we had couple parties in front of us waiting. Since the place is a bit tight, you may be sitting next to someone else. They do a pretty good job packing everyone in and seemed to accommodate larger parties as well. Kinda reminded me of being in Asia. The food for me I would say was definitely a 2 or 3 stars. My son wanted regular plain soy sauce, but they said the only sauce they had was the one on the table which to me tasted like the usually shrimp noodle sauce+sesame oil? We ate it fine, but my son ended up not eating anything. Overall the servers are very efficient at getting people seated and fed. Another cheap find! This place is my go-to dimsum in Mississauga. They have a good selection and you order from a piece of paper, just like any other dimsum places. There are pictures on the wall behind their cash register so you can get the idea of what is what, very useful! The price is pretty affordable, around $2 - $3/ dish depends on what you order. It can be very busy during lunch time, holidays and weekends. Sitting space is limited.The wait time can be ridiculous sometimes. If you're looking for a place to eat during the weekend morning or holiday and you're very hungry, this place should not be your top choice. The service is great enough for such a hole-in-a-wall. Both 2 ladies are nice and friendly. Keep in mind that English is not their first language, so please be understanding and be patient with them. Don't let its low-scale look deceive you. I can confirm this place is small, has a causal atmosphere with about seating for 42 people and total at 6 tables. It can get very cosy sitting with other customers at your table; 8 chairs but maybe should be only 6. Our wait was 10 minutes as the place was packed. Quick and friendly service. There's a variety of dim sum options from an order sheet you're given to speed up your wait time. Dumplings are freshly made onsite. This is hands down my favourite dim sum place. My family has been getting take out from here for years and just recently started to dine in. The in house experience makes me love this place even more. If you like dim sum, you have to come eat here. Questionable area of the city in a dumpy strip plaza? Check. Outdated, '80s donut joint feel? Check. Dim sum from the freezer? NO! It's true that there's no "dim sum" experience, re: no carts, no cart pushers who call out their offerings in Cantonese, no hustle or bustle. However, the price reflects this - there is no tax/tips. The max. price that I saw for a dish was $2.50, so it's really reasonable. I don't like dim sum carts 'cause I KNOW that things on there aren't necessarily fresh and re-steamed, re-fried, and re-heated in some other way. So I actually prefer the ordering sheet method, especially for places with less turnover. They also sell freshly baked Chinese buns that are ~$0.65. I knew they were fresh 'cause there was condensation inside of the clear baggie. Based on the atmosphere, I expected re-heated pre-frozen dishes, but instead they were all made in-house. The Chinese meatballs had a softer texture, the ha gow wrapping was more supple, and the shrimp stuffing wasn't as tough/tight. So I was pretty impressed with the quality of food at this place. The building itself and interior do look old and run down but it still has a Green Pass from the Health Inspectors so that means it is good enough for me. I don't know, I'm still a bit on the fence about this restaurant. It used to be Jade Dim Sum Bakery up until about nine or so months ago. At first when Happy Dim Sum opened, the lady that used to take our orders was very friendly but now there's some new woman who (like most Mississauga joints) is quite rude; hence, no matter how reasonable the prices are, it's hard to deal with that level of customer service. Prior to the rude woman, we went maybe once or so every two weeks for take-out. We would order rice noodles with barbeque pork - I think it was less than $2 for three pieces and it was so delicious. The steamed shrimp dumplings were a little on the pasty side but well-flavored. Very tasty spring rolls and steamed pork dumplings. Everything was always fresh but, in all our visits, we were never given chopsticks or any additional sauces but, for the money, you can't really complain. It's also cash only.
