Great selection of MTG products here. I love their online ordering system which makes it incredibly easy to pick up new singles for decks. Trade-in's take about a week which they do give you a heads up on but buy lists are a quick turn around, typically same day. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Only knocked one star because you do need to check your buy list to make sure everything is included. I've had several instances where one card is missing and I needed to make a separate trip to pick up the missing cards. Made this mistake twice before I started double checking my orders before leaving. I usually order 10-15 cards per order so I understand things can get missed - just need to double check before leaving. read more

This was my first time visiting Mothership Books & Games, and the store had a great, lively atmosphere. There were lots of people enjoying card games, which really shows how active and welcoming the community is here. I stopped by hoping to check out Pokémon PSA cards, but they weren't on display in-store and I had to look them up on the website instead. It would be nice to see some of those items showcased in person in the future. That said, the staff was very friendly and helpful, making the visit enjoyable overall. Nice selection of games and accessories. Not a big comic book shop like one might think. The space is small and they clearly host tournaments and games by the set up of tables in the back. I checked this place out with my sister on a random Monday. We spent quite a bit of time here looking over everything even though it's not very big. The table of sale stuff definitely caught my eye, but I refrained from any purchases. Sister bought a little lego creativity box thing? I'm not sure, but she told me I might have to come back through and get her more if she needed them. This place also has those adorable little wooden build a store kits. I might have added a few of those to my birthday wish list. That chocolate shop kept calling my name. That and the bakery. Honestly they are all too cute. I happened to be in the area looking for something else and drove into the plaza where mothership was and I'm very happy I stopped by. This store is 15 minutes from house and I will definitely be coming back. I was super upset I wasn't able to purchase anything today but I will be coming back on pay day! These guys have a lot of games, a bunch of 2-player board games, but even more 4-6 players as well. The wall that hosts them was very large and I felt myself getting disoriented trying to remember where some games were that I last looked at. I had asked the guy behind the counter for some suggestions and after he asked what games I like he brought me over to the wall and started rifling off a bunch of games he thinks I would like and answered a bunch of my questions to. Plushies, cards, TCG tables in the back for magic or anything else you could think of. This place has it all and everything is fairly priced. They're not overcharging for anything here which is a bit of an issue with other game stores I've gone to that sell TCG. Mothership is a must if your on Parmer! read more

The staff here consistently talks down to anyone that comes in asking about Pokémon. It comes off as if they treat other hobbies (for example Magic) as superior in comparison to Pokémon. Disappointed in the multiple experiences here that were each negative. Train your staff to speak to customers with basic courtesy even if they get the same question from 100 customers in a single day. read more

Buy local! I was interested in getting a new board game considering we are all home more and I decided to check out Mothership online to see if they had the game I wanted. I ended up sending them a message asking if they had the game, I got a super fast response that yes they did! They then emailed me an invoice that I paid online and then I messaged and called them to pick it up when I was ready to. They got our call when we arrived at the store and then they took our game outside for us and we picked it up. Easy peasy, no shipping to deal with, and I got a game that's not available everywhere. Today was my first day going to to the store, and I didn't know it was only pick ups. But I simply called, and asked how there pick up system works. They explained everything to me nicely, and Informatively. Went to there website to place my order,which was very easy , and amazingly good. Chose the free pick up option, and pulled up in front of the store to get it. So even though there in store was closed, it was a very good experience, the employee who helped me was so nice and I appreciated them, and the pick up system was very easy. This is our home away from home. The staff is amazing, friendly, and helpful. They learn their patrons names and treat everyone like family. This is a great place to hang out and try out new board games, join a game of magic, or try your hand at pokemon. Went in tonight to see the new stuff and to play some magic. They have Team Fortress 2, Counterstrike: Source and Call of Duty Black Ops, along with Minecraft up and running on all computers. They've added hats and collective items.... dice are due in sometime next week! (i'm hoping for to pick up a set myself.) In addition, they have system to where you can order a coke and a snack from the computer, and they will bring it to you! Thats just awesome, you don't even have to leave your raid to get a drink anymore. ;) The walls aren't bare now, they have posters going up all over and more stock coming in and going up. Very Welcoming And Friendly! I am very new to magic and until recently have only played at home with my nephews and online a little. I went into Mothership sometimes by myself sometimes with a nephew to buy cards for a deck idea I was tinkering with. (It is a whole awesome deck that I have actually played and won with now) I guess between the caliber of the *cough cough* "gentlemen" I have come across online, and some of the crap I have heard out of comic book fans, I developed an unfair expectation of what to expect. I guess I was expecting a good ole boys club of seasoned players who didn't want to be bothered by silly noob "wanna be" geek girls. Especially one who was not trying to shell out a butt load of money on individual cards. (I have heard of what some of the cards are worth! OMG!) Instead what I got was drastically different! Tom (manager I think...) invited me to come play Commander on Thursdays. When I did finally, he introduced me to a guy to play with because I was sitting at the table kinda by myself. (I was waiting on my brother and we ended up playing 4 man with another guy too) I thought that was kinda cool. There was no buy in, just casual "hey you like commander? oh me too, lets play" atmosphere. On the whole though everyone is great. The two Toms, Lauren, and the cute gal with the green hair whose name escapes me right now, were more than eager to help me find not only the cards that I was searching for, but even recommended others in my price range that would go great with my deck. But it wasn't in that "oh you don't need that silly $1 card, you want this $20 card - up-selling you some crap" way. It was like they were invested in my deck like I was kind of way. The staff's attitude is kind of shared with the people who play there it seems. I have only played against 5 other people there (aside from my brother) but everyone has been welcoming to me and have been forgiving of my stupid newbie mistakes and completely nonjudgmental. I can not write enough good things about this place. Ill be back there for sure. I have found "my" store. read more

Best game store I have been to in my life! I lived in Alabama most of my life. The only real game shop was a bit pricy, especially for events. This Alabama store was well know for being extremely rude to their customers and the staff, customers and judges were extremely arrogant. Mothership is completely different. First time I came to there store I was amazed how friendly everyone was. The staff were extremely kind and helpful. Also they have extremely good prices on their product, and will pay you fair compensation if you sell the cards. I was so impressed that I decided to attend a tournament that night. The tournament was really good, all the players were extremely friendly, and even helped me understand the rule changes. This place is a must for anyone into gaming in any form! read more

I come to this store 2 or more times a week to play magic the gathering. I've always had a pleasant experience except for that one time when someone backed up the toilet or something but that's not really the store's fault. Casey and Jorge spice things up by being active players as well as the clerks that keep the place happening. It's a 5 star place but I've seen like maybe 1 or 2 people doing board games it'd be nice if they had less board game stuff and more magic or snacks. Secret is there's a microwave you can use but they don't sell any microwavable food. Bring a burrito and win. Oh yeah and they have awesome computers I go in and just play Team Fortress 2 whenever I'm bored and there's no magic going on. Full disclosure: This store is my sole source for combos and my combo addiction is pretty debilitating right now. Go buy stuff from them so I don't have to go through withdrawals. read more

I love this idea! What I saw: 2 dozen or more high-end PC gaming rigs with huge monitors (27"??) this place looks like a LAN party in a store-front. and I haven't seen something like that in Austin. Not until now!!! You log in to their mainframe system with an account that gives you access to any game they carry and then it deducts from your hourly account (1 hour gameplay = $5) Today I went in and bought an hour of gameplay. I got to check out the hardware (seriously elite graphics on custom machines) and then I got a rundown of all the PC games they have. Best known: Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, World of Warcraft....etc, etc, etc, . (with even more coming soon!) It's in the same retail center as a comic book store. Keystone Comics, maybe? You guys should co-ordinate!! i'll be back for more. I like the few users that I met there today (on the soft launch) and when I come back later this week. I had never used a LAN center to game before. I was playing with the idea of building a gaming rig, but didn't think I played enough to justify the cost. My friend suggested I check out Mothership and I'm really glad I did. First and foremost, this is a small local business owned by a gaming enthusiast, staffed by gaming enthusiasts, with the sole purpose of supporting the gaming enthusiast community. That's definitely a business model that I can get behind. The staff was really helpful and friendly when I told them I had no idea how this worked. It was more like talking to extremely helpful enthusiasts then hired employees. The gaming computers are talked in the back and you are left to your own devices for hours. I quickly forgot that I wasn't playing in my own den. You can also access your own steam account from their computers and play any of your own games, which was pretty awesome. This place is a must for anyone who's into PC gaming or anything leaning towards the nerdy persuasion. I imagine this would be an amazing place to gather a couple friends and just game side-by-side foreign and afternoon. Can't wait to go back! Five stars. read more

Gamer grrls are not impressed. Only one kind of board game, hardly any merch, and zero ambiance. Bright white lights and walls totally kill any awesome this place might have. I've seen better in a 12 year old's room. I get they just opened, but it looks like they didn't try very hard to make this place what it could be. This place is the BEST place for TCG, and/or league gaming in my opinion. This place has awesome board game nights, Magic the Gathering, Pokemon Card Game, and a bunch of other table top game events, including Dungeons and Dragons. You may be wondering why the place is so great, well the community of course! The employees, especially the new owner Lauren are amazing to all their clientele. You really start feeling that you are among friends, to the point where people will just buy hours to play on the LAN computers in the back in order to play with each other. This place is fairly cheap if you just want to hang among those with similar gaming interests or get to know a new game, hours I believe are $3 on PC, you get a free drink with two hours, buying booster packs is cheap, and hosted sanctioned events such as pre-release tournaments are so worth your money. With the computer gaming they always have the newest games you can play on steam, League of legends, Overwatch, etc. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a very cool place to hang out and game, play trading card games, tabletop games, board games, or learn a new hobby to meet new friends. read more

This is one of those gaming stores that really needs a personal hygiene policy. Every time I go in here, I have to hold my breath. I've been a loyal customer for the last six months. It's been my go to spot to play my weekly Dungeons and Dragons. They also host Magic tournaments and have computers you can rent to play online. The staff are always friendly and ready to help. The store has a nice library of board games for customers to play before they purchase. With an outstanding selection of board games to buy. They also have RPG books and materials, miniatures and paints and much more. It's in a strip mall with plenty of parking and several restaurants in the same complex. I visited this place for wedding ceremony. Surprised to me that this is wonderful place for party. It is so comfortable in this place and have many choices on books, electronic games, cards, drink and food. The location is easy to access to nearby highways. There are lots of available parking spaces for friends coming to wedding ceremony. A store in my backyard. I only go to play Magic: The Gathering or use their LAN center but the staff gets to know you pretty quick. It may shock some at how close the employees are with customer as they will joke around with others to the point where new customers would not realize that they are kindly ribbing each other. This place is the bee's knees! Nice people, amazing staff, great experience all around. This should be almost a Mecca for all nerds. I play Magic: the Gathering there every Friday and always have a blast! This place is a gateway to hardcore gaming, once you're in you get introduced to all kinds of PC, TCGs, and table top games and before you know it you've got all these new friends and plans 3-4 nights out of the week. Staff is awesome, Derrick welcomes you with open arms and is genuinely happy you're there. They really make you feel at home and the service is absolutely amazing. Drinks and snacks are readily available while you're dominating LoL or WoW. They might even bring it to your seat if you ask really nicely:) All in all, I'm never disappointed when I walk in the door and have made plenty of lasting friendships with kindred spirits from all walks of life. This is my FLGS in Austin, which says a lot considering how many game stores there are in Austin (Austin area). The owner (Lauren) is the best, and really cares about the hobby and her customers. This store offers it all for geeks, with a kickass LAN center, a ton of board games (for sale and demo) and plenty of tables for everything from Magic to Pokemon to Heroclix to board games. They host meetups weekly, and usually have a great turnout. The place is almost always bustling with gaming activity of all kinds, which is why it's the best place to let your geek flag fly. read more

Giving it a 4 star for now. I've gone in twice, both visits I had little time to do anything. The store is really close to my house. I'm excited to have a gaming store near me that offers Magic the gathering. The store looked nice, given I went in during the "beta" opening. Hope they get more involved with friday night magic and run some standard events as well. I gave the idea of an after 7pm time for magic. They wrote down that advice and apparently have games at 730pm. Now, I'm not saying my request for that is what made it happen but it still impressed me that they took the request down in writing. I didn't take a look at the game rigs to be honest, so I can't give a good review on those. I may go in and try one out just to review them. read more
