I've been coming to Music Bar since they first opened, and somehow never got around to writing a review. This one is long overdue--not that they need my review, because by now everyone already knows how amazing this place is. What keeps me coming back is the combination of great music, an energetic vibe, outstanding service, and some of the most creative cocktails you'll find anywhere. Tonight was girls' night out, so we decided to order the prettier, and sweeter cocktails. But don't let the sweet flavors fool you--they are definitely generous with the alcohol. These drinks may taste dangerously easy to sip, but they pack a punch! I don't even remember the names of the cocktails we ordered, but honestly, that doesn't matter because the menu changes so often. And that's one of the things I love most about Music Bar. Every visit brings something new, fresh, and exciting to try. Both of my drinks were absolutely delicious, with the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. I honestly don't know how the bartenders come up with these combinations, but kudos to the team for constantly pushing their creativity while still making every cocktail incredibly well balanced. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a regular, Music Bar never disappoints. I'll definitely keep coming back to see what new creations they come up with next. Convoy Music Bar was my first HiFi experience and it did not disappoint! CMB is an intimate listening bar situated in an alleyway with a dark and moody ambiance. Speakers and vinyls line the walls. Vibes are more elevated here than at your usual bar. I ordered the Nickel Fortune, which came out with a fun tarot card. It was a savory drink with a nice lingering of sesame oil after each sip. Pros: the entrance is through a dirty alley way so it gives a real speak easy entrance. Cons: being told multiple times when sitting down that your table is limited to 1/1.5hrs. The 20% automatic tip. 1 toilet. the couple sitting next to me recommending a "secret" drink multiple times when i opened the menu (unrelated to the establishment itself but they bragged about going often so look out) Ive been multiple times and this time was the first time ive dealt with bad service and the 20%. Drinks are decent but at $22 a drink with the added gratuity and empty space for more tipping it was just a wack experience and i wont return. Taking advantage of people drinking with the auto tip is wild and adding an empty tip space with it lol. Almost tipped them 40% on accident until i realized the scam. read more

Heard about this from an article regarding the top HiFi bars in SD. This stood out with it's unique location (more about it later). Here was my experience. AMBIANCE Parking: Welcome to Convoy! Parking is limited but if you're lucky you can find parking in the business area. Seating: Great for small groups from 2-4. Total for about 30 people. Vibes: Convoy can cause a lot of decision paralysis as there are a lot of yummy spots to eat. The location is not conventional (it's in the back of an alley near RakiRaki Ramen. The spot itself is a very intimate listening bar. Clean spot with sleek interiors and shelves decorated with records and alcohol selections. The sound system was clean and the music was smooth. It's a nice date night/conversation spot than your usual places to turn up. DRINKS: Elysium (Recommend) Deelish - for some of that brown sugar love, this is it. Lots of warm sweetness that made it smooth, layered, and enjoyable. Cubano + Side of Chips (Recommend) Deeelish. Your standard pressed bread with good cuts of meats. What's unique is their wasabi aoli which brings flavor without the wasabi kick. Chips was extra but it brought a nice kick to it. CUSTOMER SERVICE I worked with Cole and Rob. Rob was dope! He was knowledgable about the menu and friendly. Due even went out of the way to get some hot sauce. TL;DR OVERALL 4.5 Stars. Good selections, reasonable prices, and good vibes. Great spot if you're looking for something more curated and intimate. Strong cocktails, intentional music, and a vibe that feels a little elevated from your typical bar. I came here twice and I always have a great time here. Make sure to book a reservation since it's pretty hard to get seated as walk-in as the place is small. Parking can be a bit tough on busy days so also be aware about that. This place is in a small alleyway that might look a bit sus but that's what a speakeasy is like, right? The inside is a bit dark and intimate but has a really nice vibe with some jazz vibes. It can get pretty packed but the servers are really friendly and will assist when they can. Great drinks, friendly bartenders and freaking cool decor. We got here when they opened for the day. It was pretty interesting; the entrance is by the back alley where the trash are. Genius! If your location has a shitty, literally, entrance, make that a speakeasy and people would love how dirty and unusual your entrance is. When we got to the door, we were promptly greeted by the host and taken to our seats. I love this space already. It's small and intimate and it seemed like every corner was well-thought out. Everywhere you look, you'd find little things that went with the theme. We sat by the bar and our bartender told us about the drinks that they have. There were so many to choose from! Check out their menu and the illustrations. If you can't decide based on the alcohol, just go with the picture! Lol. This was my first time visiting this small speakeasy, and a friend brought me here. The space is cozy, with bar seating as well as small tables and booths. Reservations are available, which is nice since it's more intimate. The bartenders were very friendly. I told one of them I was in the mood for something fruity and sweet, and he made me an amazing Lychee Martini. I also had a small dish of pineapple gummy bears. They were cold and so yummy. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the Cubano Grilled Sandwich was. It's made with pit ham, Swiss, Dijon, pickle, and wasabi aioli. The wasabi aioli really stood out and gave it a nice kick. My husband and I couldn't believe we hadn't visited Convoy Music Bar until recently! Our first visit was amazing, and we will absolutely be coming back in the future! - PARKING - Street parking, can be very tricky during peak meal times. - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - You walk through an alleyway on Opportunity Road (behind O'Brien's), and yes, you will be passing dumpsters and yes, it will smell like trash. You get to a door where "On Air" is located above and when lit, that means CMB is open! A staff member will guide in each party separately so avoid overcrowding and also light leakage into the bar. Super intimate space, not much room for large groups. Highly recommend making a reservation even if its only 2 of you, just to be safe! They say 2 can usually walk-in but I wouldn't take the chance with the size of the bar. - EXPERIENCE - We got seated at the bar and had a wonderful time making conversation with the bartenders. The drinks we ordered (Tijuana Bible and Nickle Fortune) were both very good! We loved how Nickle Fortune was a savory cocktail, and all the flavors worked so well! Wanted to love this place, but our bartender ruined it The host greeted us warmly, the space has a magical, moody vibe, and the old school 80s playlist with a Kenny Loggins record on the wall was perfection. The other staff we encountered seemed great too. My second drink was a magical passion fruit and bourbon concoction which was lovely. Unfortunately, our bartender single-handedly tanked the experience. He was inattentive when we needed him, then when I asked questions about drinks, he responded in pretentious bar-speak instead of meeting me where I was as a customer. He made assumptions - starting to mix a drink I was only asking about, not ordering - and when I asked about the next drink, he seemed annoyed I was bothering him. You can be the world's best mixologist, but hospitality is about making people feel welcome, not making them feel stupid for not speaking your language. This guy needs a serious attitude adjustment. Convoy is always a GREAT time! I've visited the bar a handful of times, I'm not from San Diego but my boyfriend and I always make it a point to try to make a stop in when in town. Our recent experience was in December for my birthday weekend. It was even more fun with other guests celebrating their birthdays too. No joke, they were maybe 6 December babies at the bar top! The Bartenders are awesome. Rob's been our guy since our first visit and he's always hospitable and kind to us. I hate that I can't remember the other gentleman but he was a vibe! They play great music, from all genres and it sets the tone. Drinks are delicious and consistent. The menu design is creative and contains many options. That's the best way to get in since it really is a small space, not many people can fit inside. We celebrated our anniversary with a stop at Convoy Music Bar for drinks and had an awesome time. We made a reservation for 5:30PM and were the first at the door as they opened. They had a cute card with baby's breath at our table congratulating us on our anniversary. We started off with an apertivo, some mixed nuts, and had a few different cocktails. My husband drinks whiskey so he got recommendations from our server, Rob and was not disappointed at all. I drink gin and was very happy with my selections, especially the giddy. The entire staff is very friendly and know their cocktails. The vibe is very chill and the music on the JBL speakers was perfect. The bathroom even has a fancy Japanese toilet. Street parking only. We checked out this new speakeasy after attending an event back in May of 2024. You'll need reservations and have to stand by the smelly trash cans before entering LOL. They also have snacks, so we shared the castelvetrano olives, pineapple gummy bears, bar nuts, and the beef salami sandwich, which comes with kettle chips and wasabi tartar sauce. Complimentary teddy grahams were also given to us. For drinks, my friend and I both got the Tropical Holiday, which were spirit free. It was really refreshing! My other friend chose something with Mezcal. My friend chose something appley for her next mocktail and they made a really delicious one for me! He even added around 10 luxardo cherries for me! We were lost trying to find the bar and asked the guy who works at Raki Raki for directions. Glad we did. Raki guy said "go through this long creepy dark alley here and past through all the garbage cans and find the door on the right" and we did. Not gonna lie it was kinda fun and felt like cool speakeasy I'm so glad I wasn't alone and was with another friend it made the adventure more fun. We found the secret door entrance that was closed it said to wait outside. We waited outside only for few minutes and the staff came out and he let us in for finding the place. It's literally right behind the Taco Stand we must have went the longest way. Parking is nearly impossible inside on Friday evening so we parked around the block on the street and got lucky. We were also very fortunate that we got inside because we were walk in without reservation. I highly recommend making reservations it was packed inside and it was very nice inside it was dimmed out with LED lighting with bartender serving drinks and DJing on an actual record. The music was rad it was bunch of Japanese mellow jams songs like Sexy Robot by Hitomi Tohyama. If you do not drink they have couple of mocktail options and there's some snacks available but don't expect gourmet foods. This is place to drink booze and enjoy all the vibe and music. Delicious drinks, relaxed vibe and good service made this visit a memorable one. As others have mentioned, the back alley entrance is pretty gross but once you enter the speakeasy itself you are transported to a completely different world of mellow flavors and sounds. BF and I got 4 drinks total. My favorite was the Vicky's Secret, as it featured sophisticsted layers of rhubarb, earthy notes and spirits. Bf's diamond cut was unique with its boba layer paired with celery and other fresh flavors. I also enjoyed the sweet and spicy components of the Tijuana Bible, while the Gold Show was just so so. (Spoiler): We thought we were in the wrong spot at first, walking passed the back entrance to busy kitchens but right when we thought we had gone to far we saw the light. Its refreshing to see speakeasies that are actually hidden and not so popular that the line shows the entrance. In contrast to the dark narrow ally you just left, the inside is a warmly lit, upscale bar with comfy seating. It has a high-fi aesthetic with the vinyl records that line the wall and speaker system built into it. The seating is comfortable and mainly focused on 2-4 people options with plenty of bar spots as well. The bartenders were great as well. They were friendly, great with recommendations, and quick with anything we needed. You will definitely need a reservation (though maybe not for bar spots) but on weekdays it is slow enough that they let you stay longer than the hour block. A 20% service charge is added to the bill regardless of group size. Thats not necessarily a bad thing, just something to know. The drinks themselves were complex and varied. We ended up getting a Giddy and and Cuffing Season. The cuffing season was my favorite. It had a mix of spiced fruitiness that almost had a szechuan peppercorn bite. The giddy was good to and had the bitter fruitiness similar to a Cusco Sour. The drinks were a pretty decent price for a good speakeasy too. Overall a great speakeasy that I recommend to anyone visiting. read more

This is definitely the vibe. I can see myself spending the entire night at this bar every night. First of all, I love the exclusivity and how difficult it is to find. Exactly what I would expect from a speakeasy. I would definitely recommend making a reservation and arriving early to find the place. Secondly, the drinks are top notch. I always aim to find the places with the best cocktails and this is it! Third, I loved the music and ambiance. They played a lot of music from the 1980s and 1990s that I love. I was in awe with the amount of vinyls inside and the record players throughout the venue as well. The sound system was great too. Fourth, the service was amazing. However Sorry the staff is either not trained or do not know what hospitality means. They definitely have no idea how to handle vinyls. I get that the 2-3 records you were playing one can get for under $5 but still. Show some respect. As a vinyl head I shrieked twice when they were throwing the covers around and bumping the styluses or forgetting to change. Poor lady next to me was raving about a song by WAR (the cover was not changed and it was Neil Diamond). I have that exact same record. The staff was extremely loud and the banter all around within themselves was disturbing. You dnt laugh while sipping on stuff while making drinks for your patrons. Spits flying around as they were goofing. Sorry, had high expectations I feel the owners need to do a better job esp. when you say it's a Hifi bar. Then comes the presumptuous behavior of the bartenders. Dude we have traveled the world and have seen stuff so don't assume. Plus know your stuff. The very very dry drinks as per you were on the sweeter side and you assumed the guys are fine with dry drinks and the females are not. Most importantly : all the reviews I am seeing everywhere are all about how cool it is or how awesome are the stuff but almost none speak to the quality of the listening experience. Not recommending. I've been seeing this pop up on Instagram for a while now and so excited to finally try! Yo upstate by walking behind the main plaza and going through a back alley thats full of trash. This concept is cool but a little dirty as you approach the place. We came on a Friday night without a reservation and had a 45 minute wait. The inside is relatively small but there are some bigger areas for groups. The menu has detailed descriptions including the level of string to weak for each drink. The workers were all helpful and had recommendations. The presentation is drinks was so picturesque worthy. The Tomato Gimlet and the Jackie Daytona were some favorites! read more

Cute little bar tucked in a sorta grimy/sketch back alley. Haha definitely not how I want to describe but that's the reality of it. I've tried to come here a numerous amount of times with a reservation and was not successful until last weekend(and it took 2 tries) which is my fault since I like to do things on a whim. So glad we got to go in to check it out. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. The vibe is cool. Good music, good drinks and good atmosphere. Our bartender Jonny was very cool. So so good! Starting off with the Roe of the Day it was the perfect little side for my boyfriend and I to snack on while we enjoyed our drinks. The host was kind enough to show me what roe it was from the kitchen because I loved it so much. Although nothing really intrigued me right off the bat I surprisingly (because I'm kind of picky with my drinks) loved all of them including the starter cocktail! My boyfriend got the Golden Show and it was a bit strong for my taste but he liked it and I enjoyed sipping it with a bite of the chocolate! I got to keep the little cowboy hat and bandana that came with my drink (Jackie Daytona) which I was super excited about! Our bartender recommended us the Double Bird and it was the perfect cocktail to end the night. I would say it's a bit small in there so I recommend smaller groups or just for a date night! It was fun to just chat with my bf and enjoy the music from their refurbished speakers! I've been wanting to visit Convoy Music Bar for a while, and they absolutely delivered for my first visit! We came here to celebrate my birthday, and the entire experience--from the secret entrance in the alleyway to the final sip--was magic. ​The "hidden" entrance sets the tone perfectly. Once inside, the decor is stunning: rich velvet seating, dim moody lighting, and that gorgeous ornate gold ceiling. It's intimate enough that you can actually hear your date talk, which is rare for a bar. Even the bathroom stayed on theme (the Japanese toilet is a high-tech plus!). ​The staff went above and beyond. A huge shoutout to our host, Ray, who was so welcoming, the bartenders who made great drinks, and especially to Cole, our server. Cole is easily the most knowledgeable server I've ever encountered. I told him my preferred flavor profiles, and he recommended a twist on a Classic Manhattan that was hands-down the best I've ever had. My husband had the Halekulani, which was perfectly balanced and refreshing. The ice cubes and garnishes are works of art--one of my drinks even had a wild popcorn aftertaste, while another tasted like a nutty apple pie. ​The Birthday Touch: They made me feel so special! I was greeted with "Happy Birthday," a hilarious card signed by the whole staff, and a birthday drink. It's those extra miles that make a place memorable. ​Tips for Visitors: ​Parking: There is a free 2-hour lot, but it's very tight and people park illegally, making it hard to maneuver. In true speakeasy fashion, this place was difficult to find! I got lost on the way to the door, not sure whether I should continue walking down the alleyway behind the building. Rest assured, I arrived at the bar just fine, and the extra difficulty only added to the experience :) Once inside, I was able to appreciate the moody decor and music. They've curated their vibes throughly, and it pays off! I ordered an Elysium. It was fruity and smokey, delicious all the way! We also had the fish roe, it was great and I would highly recommend! One of the best speakeasy bars that I have been to in San Diego!! If you walk past the sketchy back alleyway of some restaurants in Convoy, you'll find the bar entrance at the very end. Luckily with reservations ($25 per person), you do get in pretty quickly, but they also do walk-in's as well. The bar itself is pretty small, but they do have amazing speakers playing music. Their menu is also well crafted and organized by popular drinks, to snacks, then to the type of alcohol is in the base of the drink. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgable with recommendations. One of my favorite drinks from here is the gold show, which is a whiskey based drink with white chocolate and mangosteen. Highly, highly recommend trying this bar. read more

Highly recommend to make a reservation through Resy. They do require $25 per person to hold your spot in case you cancel. If you can't find free parking on the street or in the shopping lot then across the street has a paid lot. The entrance is behind O'Brien's in the alley way where the dumpsters are located. Follow that path halfway down until you spot a door that has the "on air" sign. The drinks were incredible. My first drink was Cuffing Season (tequila blanco, prickly pear, honey, citrus, description was first kiss) well, sure was because it had the sour tartness that gave me the sour pucker face. My second was the Giddy with gin. This was refreshing with cucumber, cantaloupe, honey, citrus and melon. Fiance got the Catalyst old fashioned then Pandan old fashioned (not on menu). Said both were tasty and the Pandan was settled. You get a little keepsake too. The Cuffing season came with a friendship bracelet and the Giddy came with a crane origami. We really love the ambiance, the mixologist, the door man and theme here. Everyone was nice and knowledgeable. High quality drinks. Loved it so much that fiancé has been back numerous times! Very cool speakeasy! The venue completely makes you forget what is outside it's walls. I loved the decor, lighting, and music. I definitely think you need to dress nice and follow the recommended dress code. Tshirt and sweats with sneakers is not the vibe. What a great speakeasy with such good music. The decor here is beautiful and sets such a cool vibe. The staff was incredibly friendly from the moment we walked up. My fiancé and I are from out of town and didn't realize you needed a reservation, but the front staff was so welcoming and still let us in and seated us quickly. Last night we were at the convoy music bar. It's a cute dark little speakeasy that's hidden away just for us. The service here is magnificent. The people really care about making a special drink for you. They are very nice and talented too. Ambulance is dark and cozy and well done. The music is always my favorite somehow. read more

This speakeasy has been on my list for quite sometime and FINALLY was able to go. The entrance is an unusual, but funny concept. You have to walk through a bunch of dumpsters to get to there. The space is a bit tight, but I love how it wasn't overpacked and easy to order drinks. You're only allowed to be there for 90 minutes. Everyone inside was super knowledgable and attentive. Loved the music, the vibes, the drinks and snacks. If you're looking for a fun speakeasy experience and enjoy being in the Convoy area, I recommend this spot.
