I had such high hopes for this place and was so disappointed. If you have celiac do not go here!!! I can go almost anywhere and find something I can eat I do not expect businesses to cater to my allergies. With that said I won't ever go here again. When we went to order I asked if I could have the sandwich without the bread all the fixings were fine. I was told the chef doesn't do exceptions so I explained I'm not modifying his food I just can't have the bread I have celiac. She said it doesn't matter the chef doesn't like to modify but she would ask and I could tell she was so worried about asking. People came in after us and got their food before us. I thought maybe they had called it in but it got to be ridiculous so I went in and asked, I was told if the buzzer we gave you isn't vibrating it isn't ready. OK then... Finally our food is ready and it was a joke. My husbands sandwich was packed with meat.. I was given a little bit of meat in a container with a tiny bit of onions and fixings in another container. It was PATHETIC! All because I asked for no bread. The kale salad was the best thing. My hobbies sandwich he said was pretty good as well. I won't ever go back. There are so many other options where they understand CELIAC isn't a choice and to punish me for having it by giving me a 3rd of the portion when I paid the same price is ridiculous. Everything about this deli is so great. Service at the counter was thoughtful and polite and our order came out quickly. There are picnic tables outside with umbrellas and there are a couple of booths and a few bar seats inside. The sandwiches are DELICIOUS! Came here with the buddies (both of them) and we even met up with one of the DOGS. We show up and there's our BOY. We were all like "Yoooooo what's up DOG". It was the dude himself. Not one to write negative reviews but very concerned with how terrible and awful smelling the bathroom hallway and bathrooms were this weekend. It was the worse smelling bathroom/urinal smell I've ever been exposed to. To be honest it completely ruined my appetite. Please get this issue fixed! 4/5 this was a really cute spot. You order the food up front and then can grab a table either inside or outside and they give you a buzzer. They have alcohol to choose from as well! They had lots of local brews on tap, and I enjoyed my IPA along with their famous Turketta hot sandwich (bacon on the side). Sadly, it's the most important thing about a sandwich, so it leaves me with a meh feeling about Moto Deli. There are not a lot of options for fresh sandwiches in north county so that's why I keep coming back and the location is convenient. It's kind of on the outskirts of the busier areas of 101 so usually no issue w parking on street. They have parking in the parking lot but not a lot of spots so I usually grab a street spot. Plenty of seating outside on benches. Service is hit or miss, I've had friendly cashiers but they don't go out of their way to make you feel welcome or appreciated. Right off the 101, is this fun lil sandwich spot. It's got some indoor seating and lots of outdoor seating to soak in the rays and the coastal breezes. Perfect place after a surf sesh, or a bike ride. They have a great variety of really amazing sandwiches. I got the Philly cheesesteak. Moto Deli is one of those unseeming places you might not realize is as good as it is from the street. We drove by two dozen times during 3 separate visits to Encinitas before realizing it was a sandwich joint and stopping in on the 25 time driving by. The building its in is wedged between a Caliber Collision and some other non-restaurant place, and we always saw tons of cyclists out front with their carbon fiber bikes and spandex kit on. Turns out it's because (a) their food is awesome road fuel for pedal-mashing type, and (b) there's a cycling shop next door that's friendly to moto deli. So anyways, yeah it's not that noticeable from the street but the vibes are strong with this one. Great food, generous portions, good value, tasty sammies, and great outdoor seating. Nothing could be better. Whether you're clip-clopping around in your cycling shoes wearing skin-tight lycra or wearing some boardshorts, this place is casual and unpretentious. Lately I love Italians, which are always a classic, and that's what I got the most recent time and is pictured in my photo. Really fresh ingredients and bread, and it stays together - I don't appreciate soggy sandwiches (besides the exception, a French dip). This place is great for carry out or dine-in with their outdoor patio seating, and there's even a cute coffee place and bike shop that share the space. While I was waiting for it to be prepared several other people walked up to the counter; every one of them ordered a Turketta. Once I got to my beach destination, Turketta in hand, it was still nice and warm, and it was delicious. I can't speak for anything else on the menu, but this sandwich was yum! While waiting in line, a regular told me that the Turketta is her favorite, but that she also really likes The Italian (the second item on the menu)......I'll have to try that next. read more

Three stars are based on service alone. If it was just the food, it would be five stars. I have been to Moto Deli twice now and my husband three times. My husband raved about it and was very eager to take me. I was excited to go based on him telling me what a delicious sandwich he had (the Cubano, he loves a good Cubano) and their homemade "chips". We raced down there a few weeks ago as we knew it closed at 5:00, we walked in about 4:45 and the man behind the counters first words to us were "you can only get something to go, our kitchen's closing at 5;00) . Not a "Hi", "Welcome", "Good afternoon", "How can I help you?", just that very curt remark ( I can't even call that a greeting). I understand wanting to close up after a long day. But I worked in the restaurant business for years and if somebody walked in 30 seconds before closing, we served them. And...we served them with a smile on our face and we NEVER rushed them (& we weren't concerned about online reviews bc the internet wasn't here yet, it was called good customer service & expected). If I wasn't so hungry and did not want to try the sandwiches so bad I would've walked out, but we ordered. I cannot remember what my husband had that time, probably another Cubano, but he liked it. I had the Turketta & it was delicious. The homemade potato chips are delicious & they were still warm OK, I do recommend the Moto Deli, the food is really good. Next time I would like to try the Cobb salad. But the gentleman behind the counter, he was tall with glasses and I do believe he's the manager if not the owner really needs to improve his customer service skills. And maybe think about staying open until 6 PM? Closing at 5 PM is very difficult for people that work, especially if you won't let people sit down to eat close to closing. We decided that we will only get orders-to-go there, even if we got there early enough to eat in the restaurant section and have a beer with our meal, which is what we like to do.
