Only trying to go smack down on these sandwiches. Always helps when you are smacking down on some grub with the DAWGS like what's up. Great spot off the beaten path. I was craving a deli sandwich and the reviews looked positive and it wasn't too far from the San Diego Botanical Gardens. This was a mid weekend lunch stop. Fresh ingredients, but I have noticed the last few times I've ordered a sandwich from Moto, I've been disappointed with the bread. Sadly, it's the most important thing about a sandwich, so it leaves me with a meh feeling about Moto Deli. There are not a lot of options for fresh sandwiches in north county so that's why I keep coming back and the location is convenient. It's kind of on the outskirts of the busier areas of 101 so usually no issue w parking on street. They have parking in the parking lot but not a lot of spots so I usually grab a street spot. Plenty of seating outside on benches. Service is hit or miss, I've had friendly cashiers but they don't go out of their way to make you feel welcome or appreciated. 4/5 this was a really cute spot. You order the food up front and then can grab a table either inside or outside and they give you a buzzer. They have alcohol to choose from as well! For the sandwiches we got an Italian and the turkey pesto. Both really good. They didn't blow me away, but they were classic and good, so this is why it's a 4/5. Came by on a gorgeous weekday lunchtime, and Moto Deli was super easy to find off of PCH highway. They had lots of local brews on tap, and I enjoyed my IPA along with their famous Turketta hot sandwich (bacon on the side). My friend got their cold Italian sandwich, as recommended by the cool biker chick at the cashier. I loved her shirt. It said something about "NICE GIRL GANG" I was like YES, this is the era for nice girls. I'm not sure about you but I'll always go for the hot sando vs a cold one. Personal preferences. Their turketta was delicious, and I love that they wrap their sandwiches up with simple no-frills butcher paper. Their ingredients are so fresh and the bread was so delicious, crisp but pillowy. Mm! I was really sad when the sandwich was over. I also wished that there was something else that came with the sandwich on the side. The total was ~$20 with my sandwich and beer. I think it's super cool that Moto Deli is in the same space as a bunch of other shops like a coffee station, bike shop, and bakery what!? Commune vibes or what! Would def be back if in the area, but I gotta say that if you're looking for a "craft" sandwich this is your spot. Right off the 101, is this fun lil sandwich spot. It's got some indoor seating and lots of outdoor seating to soak in the rays and the coastal breezes. Upon entry got the gen z stare from the girl working behind the counter. Not quite sure where I was supposed to order cause well there is no order here sign or greeting so you best believe I asked her if we ordered with her. Ordered the mortadella sandwich which is north of $15. Focaccia bread was good but the pesto slathered in it was way too much and way too oily it out powered the rest of the ingredients in the sandwich. Also got the turkey sando which was ok. Nothing amazing. They have rickety majorly wilted benches outside that I do have to say could get tossed. Not quite sure I enjoyed eating on them nor enjoying my sandwich next to empty beer glasses that haven't gotten cleared. Noticed the worker behind the counter was also clearing the empty beer glasses left on the tables which explains for the not so swift cleaning of the tables. Potato salad--while different--grew on me and I ended up really enjoying the different flavors from the traditional fare. Moto Deli is one of those unseeming places you might not realize is as good as it is from the street. We drove by two dozen times during 3 separate visits to Encinitas before realizing it was a sandwich joint and stopping in on the 25 time driving by. The building its in is wedged between a Caliber Collision and some other non-restaurant place, and we always saw tons of cyclists out front with their carbon fiber bikes and spandex kit on. Turns out it's because (a) their food is awesome road fuel for pedal-mashing type, and (b) there's a cycling shop next door that's friendly to moto deli. So anyways, yeah it's not that noticeable from the street but the vibes are strong with this one. Great food, generous portions, good value, tasty sammies, and great outdoor seating. Nothing could be better. Whether you're clip-clopping around in your cycling shoes wearing skin-tight lycra or wearing some boardshorts, this place is casual and unpretentious. This is our first time in the "new" location (I know they've been here for a bit...) and I think if it's possible, Moto Deli has gotten better? Lately I love Italians, which are always a classic, and that's what I got the most recent time and is pictured in my photo. Really fresh ingredients and bread, and it stays together - I don't appreciate soggy sandwiches (besides the exception, a French dip). This place is great for carry out or dine-in with their outdoor patio seating, and there's even a cute coffee place and bike shop that share the space. The hubby and I used to eat here weekly when we lived down the road, but since moving further south, we only come once a month or so. You know I had to get my standard order, which was a BLT with extra Moto sauce. It never disappoints and tasted even better this time since it feels like years that I last had it (it's been 5-weeks). The hubby ordered his Turketta sando, we split a bag of the dirty flavored chips and their potato salad. That's been our go-to order for the last year and a half and always so satisfying. Not exactly sure what it was but the Ruben was not what we expected and the taste was a bit off. The sandwiches here are pretty pricy and the service wasn't very fast. We also ordered the Mac salad - it was heavy on the onions and had a spice in it that was a bit overpowering. The space was cute and there was a decent amount of seating. While I was waiting for it to be prepared several other people walked up to the counter; every one of them ordered a Turketta. Once I got to my beach destination, Turketta in hand, it was still nice and warm, and it was delicious. I can't speak for anything else on the menu, but this sandwich was yum! While waiting in line, a regular told me that the Turketta is her favorite, but that she also really likes The Italian (the second item on the menu)......I'll have to try that next. read more

Three stars are based on service alone. If it was just the food, it would be five stars. I have been to Moto Deli twice now and my husband three times. My husband raved about it and was very eager to take me. I was excited to go based on him telling me what a delicious sandwich he had (the Cubano, he loves a good Cubano) and their homemade "chips". We raced down there a few weeks ago as we knew it closed at 5:00, we walked in about 4:45 and the man behind the counters first words to us were "you can only get something to go, our kitchen's closing at 5;00) . Not a "Hi", "Welcome", "Good afternoon", "How can I help you?", just that very curt remark ( I can't even call that a greeting). I understand wanting to close up after a long day. But I worked in the restaurant business for years and if somebody walked in 30 seconds before closing, we served them. And...we served them with a smile on our face and we NEVER rushed them (& we weren't concerned about online reviews bc the internet wasn't here yet, it was called good customer service & expected). If I wasn't so hungry and did not want to try the sandwiches so bad I would've walked out, but we ordered. I cannot remember what my husband had that time, probably another Cubano, but he liked it. I had the Turketta & it was delicious. The homemade potato chips are delicious & they were still warm OK, I do recommend the Moto Deli, the food is really good. Next time I would like to try the Cobb salad. But the gentleman behind the counter, he was tall with glasses and I do believe he's the manager if not the owner really needs to improve his customer service skills. And maybe think about staying open until 6 PM? Closing at 5 PM is very difficult for people that work, especially if you won't let people sit down to eat close to closing. I've been meaning to revisit Moto Deli since their opening several years ago in a food truck, and then a brick and mortar location. This is their newer location along the coast and it sure is a beautiful spot. My friend and I called in our order, which seamed to be easier to do. The app had some inconsistencies in what items were available for the day. One of the salads that we wanted was listed as not available/ sold out. When we called to place the order, the salad was available. The phone conversation to place our order was great, we had a couple modifications that were noted. It was a busy Sunday and a little difficult to find parking, which is to be expected. A few min after waiting around the shop, a spot opened up. I didn't realize that Moto Deli shares a open wall with a cycle shop. (Super cool). We got our order to go. I opted for the Italian sandwich- soooo delicious. The bread/sub roll was thinner and a great consistency. The meats, cheese, olive oil, red wine vinegar made such a yummy experience. My friend had the cob salad with a couple modifications. In need of a quick lunch when driving around Carlsbad beach and we decided to stop by for some sandwiches. I really enjoyed the turketta sandwich - it was healthy, fresh, and so, so tasty! It had avo and bacon and the flavors were a hit! It wasn't a particularly large sandwich but it was still filling. The Ruben sandwich, I found out, is not for me. I think if you like Ruben sandwiches, with their sweet sauce, sauerkraut, and rye bread, I would imagine you would like this one too. It had a good amount of corned beef! The mac salad and the quinoa and kale salad were great small sides and the chocolate chip cookie was good too. I'd say it's a great place to grab a quick bite! read more

Definitely not worth the hype or the 4.4 stars on here. Sandwiches are low to mid at best, lack of flavor and relatively dry, good thing my chips were soggy and had a hair in them. When I mentioned it to the staff they had an attitude like it was my fault for them making a half ass sandwich with a side of hair in my chips.
