I came to take my driver's test and I had a young kid for my instructor. He was very unprofessional and I don't even understand how we got this job. He had no idea what he was talking about and he kept asking me for an id card for my insurance when I showed him all of my insurance information. And they took the same paper I showed them last time but now they made it a problem. I keep asking him what he needed and he just said id card and kept laughing nervously and I asked him to get a manger and he just stood thier until my husband came and made it a problem. I haven't been to the MVD in over 10+ years! Was nervous at first because everyone knows the MVD is always a pain to visit. However, this time was WAY BETTER! Scheduled an appointment online for a Travel ID. Had a smooth experience all the way through. Highly recommend setting up an appointment for an early morning mid week slot if possible. Walk-ins are available but the line was very long and I would not recommend this options if avoidable. The service representative seemed new as she had to ask for assistance multiple times but she was very nice and professional. I was in and out within 20 minutes with a 9:40am appointment on a Wednesday. Good luck to everyone who needs to visit this place. read more

This is the MVD where I got my driving license a very long back. This time I went there for renewal of the same. There are few significant changes in the office and it was so easy to navigate. I did an online reservation and so got the associate window almost immediately. Work was done smoothly and very quickly. Overall big MVD with lot many windows for servicing customers. Lines like Disney, be prepared and start your queue before 8 am. I am impressed that the MVD on trying to improve efficiency. Things have changed since a year ago. The Glendale MVD has structurally and procedurally changed. Get ready to line up. Hopefully today was an anomaly. The clerks informed us that it was unusually busy. When you walk in, many rows of metal grated benches have been removed in the middle of the waiting room to accommodate many lines of people standing. If you are getting your Driving Learner Permit, be prepared for at least 4 lines. Gone are the days of only one long that extended from the information desk upfront and extended into the parking lot and wrapped around the building. Once you go through their "triage", had your picture taken and received your number, you could sit down and wait for your number called. The wait between counters calling your number up on the board was long but you got to sit. In this new system, after the information counter, and you've received your forms to complete and your number, you line up to wait for the Service Director. This is the longest line. At the end of this line, the Service Director puts your name, reason and number on a clipboard. She then directs you to the appropriate counter. The clerks at these counters have been friendly and helpful. They process your form and identification and take your mine. They take credit cards. After this line, you queue for the clerk who readies you for the computerized test. Non-English verbal tests are given in 8 languages. Because a computer was available, my daughter tested immediately. The computerized test compromised of 30 questions. You can miss 6 and pass. It is untimed. If you miss 7, you get kicked off and may retake the next day. Tip: They no longer make you wait 2 weeks.. You can skip questions and the computer puts them at the end of the test. If you have completed the minimum, it congratulates you and bypasses the skipped questions. After you pass or fail, you line up in that same line to meet with the same clerks to get your permit. It was nice to see when the main clerk was swamped with customers, a couple of other clerks flowed in to help ease the strain on that line. Pros: This new system has increased the number of clients served and is a good way of using our tax dollars and time. It has also managed to squeeze more customers in the building and that means more people get to wait in air conditioning and not in the desert elements. Fewer people are turned away. Even though it was uncomfortably crowded, the clerks stayed positive and were actively engaged in helping someone at all times on the floor. The last lady who helped us said that it wasn't usually this bad but they were hit with a double whammy: Short week after Columbus Day, and it was Fall Break for many schools. Cons: Lines are really long and you have to walk and stand. Tip: Avoid high peak days: Monday's, Friday's and the day after a holiday. Tip: If you have a disability, they have a Priority Access line. Make sure you indicate you have a disability at the first Information Counter. I understand and appreciate these waits cannot be avoided because we live in a big city. I appreciate the courtesy and sense of humor the employees have in this location. Tip: Like A theme park, come early, line up and prepare to take at least half a day. read more

This year was so much better than last year. I dreaded going to renew my car registration which I have to go in person bc I have an exemption and last year I got an employee who seemed to think I was a burden that she even had to help me. This year I got an employee with the name of Lorena. She was very nice, and didn't act like I was bothering her. I hope Lorena sees this post and knows it means a lot to people when they are treated so politely. Thankyou Lorena! This is a real post and not just some friend of hers. If her bosses want to contact me I will give them the date and time I was there to prove it. No other way to compliment employees except by scanning a QR code and I can't do that. read more

We all know that we don't go to the MVD for customer service. Initially, we went to one of the third party locations, however our ATV was older and so we were advised to go to the "real" MVD. We arrived, no line, immediately greeted by a kind woman eager to help. We had two titles to provide. First one, no issues, provided totals and receipts, gave us the overview of what will happen. During the next transaction, she felt ill and we were moved to a coworker. This is when our experience went to a one star. We were moved to Shannan, cube 13. Shannan gave the performance of every bad stereotype that is out there for MVD. She had many distractions, from coworkers asking about Christmas money, the recognition board being created behind her, and new hire training-when she herself appears to need to go back through that, and if you have basic customer service pamphlets, make sure she gets one, we know she has been there for seven years (yes, she shared that), doesn't show. She even had an exchange in conversation with a manager about needing to complete two transactions for our request and he said, I told you that already, she was argumentative while we waited. My husband stood the entire time we dealt with this. We are in a day of technology, however when dealing with a motor vehicle, this isn't fast food or a gas station, we want to know the cost before tapping my card, and I want a receipt. What happened to advising of the charge and asking if someone wants a receipt, not assume they don't? Additionally, we were dealing with a title, we want a paper copy. We were told we don't NEED it, I realize this, however after paying for a vehicle I'd like the personal satisfaction of the paper copy. We were given a sarcastic smile, haughty derision and silence while our receipts and paper title summary were printed. We only went there because the third party recommended it, and although we accomplished what we set out to do, we will continue to go to the third party. It took three times longer after we met with Shannan, because she was too focused on being "that person" instead of doing her job. One we all, pay her to do. Stereotypical MVD experience. read more

You need to bring an 'original' birth certificate to get a Driver Travel ID. Except the online site doesn't indicate you need an original. We have to come back another day with the original. We were able to get a vehicle title change, with no problem. Had an appointment at 12 noon, and got called at 1 pm. Then 20 minutes at the counter. MVD office had lots of lines for standing waiting. You get called by the agent shouting out your number. The process doesn't seem as efficient as before. Definitely slower. read more

Their online system to schedule an appointment was not working. So I tried calling and the automated voice System hung up on me saying their call volume was too high. So then I drive 25 minutes to get to this location and arrive at 4:39 PM. Even though they close at 5 PM and were nearly empty with staff sitting around everywhere, they said they cannot take walk-ins after 4:30 PM. I had to call a third-party site, who told me they get this all the time, despite me only needing MVD for a task that only takes 5 minutes. read more

Terribly ran establishment. If the mvd would take but 1% of the money they make from people and invested it into a more efficient waiting system. Not only would people be happy. But also the employees. Who seem to not care about their Jobs one bit. They lack any incentive to get people what they need and get out. If they could make a simple online waiting system and maybe a way to allow us to rate their employees, and based on their reviews give them maybe a small bonus or something as such, would give them a incentive to actually do their jobs. Maybe that would make everyone a little happier and make the mvd more efficient. read more

Came to update my insurance information. Arrived around 845 and was assigned J586. I sat here for over an hour and have not had any J series called. When I asked the supervisor she expressed that she's doing the best she can and only has a few people in staff. There are only 6 windows open out of 22. Either the DMV needs to hire people or get their staff and structure in alignment to ensure better efficency. (Update after an hour and a half a J series number was finally called J581, now only 4 more to go. Hopefully it doesn't take another hour and half in between each J series) read more
