Motto am Fluss is not the cheapest place to go, but its definitely worth the money. The food is excellent and very good quality (all organic) - also they have creative and surprisingly good combinations of herbs and usual other drinks. Service is caring and very nice. It is not very easy to get a spot on the outer deck on top of the ship, where you have sun all day long. I would recommand you to reserve a table if you head there for brunch on saturday or sunday morning. read more

I always order the same when I visit Motto am Fluss: the avocado and papaya quinoa salad. I am a big fan and the fusion is so good. The "Basilikum - Limettenlimonade" (basil and lime soda) is also very refreshing. The restaurant is slightly on the expensive side but the quality of the food makes it worth it. The decor is modern and there is a really nice outdoor area with tables for eating and chairs for just lounging and drinking. The staff speak English and are friendly. The location is good: "am Fluss" means "on the river" and is in the first district. read more

We had the new years menu. It was really good but it was just way too pricey. But let's start with the courses. There were 5 in total. We ate amongst other things fried oyster, caviar and beef filet. So far so good. The service was good. Not great but good. They forgot to bring me my glass of wine twice which is a shame. Considering the 130 Euro per menu we paid its not a definite recommendation. Situated by the riverside, Motto Am Fluss has both a cafe and a restaurant. We dined downstairs at the restaurant where service was pleasant and food was just ok. While they do serve a couple Viennese dishes, the menu is decidedly fusion/eclectic and does not lean toward a particular type of cuisine. Appetizer choices such as foie gras terrine, mackerel tartare, and raw oysters were decent but not outstanding, as were main courses such as venison with chestnuts and brussel sprouts, lamb sous vide, and veal stew. We were stranded without a place for Brunch this morning when my friend recommended Motto am Fluss. I was hesitant as being on the Canal and right on Schwedenplatz I assumed it was touristy. I was pretty wrong. A nice breakfast menu, good view, and nice ambiance. I had the "Light House" vegetarian breakfast (there is a picture of it on here, but its not mine.) Nice fresh avocado with egg, curd cheese and vegetables. Nice fresh orange juice and coffee. The pasty was nice, and the service was exceptional - which was not the case for where we were going to go, so I was happy. I'm a fan, and I also heard the have nice drinks in the later hours. read more

Cafe Motto am Fluss is a great place to meet up with a friend or a small group of friends. It offers a cozy environment to chat, catch up, drink coffee/tea/wine and choose between a few savory and a few healthy plates for food. They have a collection of desserts that are worth trying out, as well. It seems to be crowded all the time, so a reservation is needed, even for the cafe. The cafe is decently priced for the locale, food, and service it offers. read more

Nice view, climatic interior, good drinks, nothing to write home about food. This would be my shortest description of this place. It is rather big and lively even on Monday evening ! Service was fast and professional. But the food was far from excellent, even though pricey. Carpaccio was tasteless with scrabbled eggs in the middle (what a devil's idea !!!). Fish was far from fresh, rather frozen and dry, even though it was halibut, so one supposed to be tender and fat! Cannelloni also looked more like lasagne to me. The atmosphere and location of this restaurant is fantastic. The food on the other hand is only fair. Four of us had full dinners and three of us were very disappointed. My friend and I had the sturgeon. It was so horribly fishy tasting, that I really don't think I can ever have it again. Also, our sides of potatoes/mushrooms were served cold. I make these potatoes so much better. This restaurant is on the pricey side and really was the least appetizing meal we had in Europe. I would recommend maybe having a drink here, but save your money and appetite for another place. read more

Of the meals the 4 of us had, only one was good, the Wienerschnitzel (really good!!!). 2 tuna steaks were so-so, nothing to write home about; grilled well (nicely raw inside), but poorly - unimaginatively - seasoned. The beef tartar was the real catastrophe! The cook's unfortunate imagination got the best of him, and he altered this classic dish beyond recognition - and destroyed it. Grated Manchego cheese on top???!!! Whatever the seasoning was, called "marinade", it had only a vague similarity to anything which should have gone onto ground beef, clearly missing some of the key ingredients for this dish, and it's only saving grace was that the taste it had wasn't very strong. We sent it back for another without cheese, and asked for a few ingredients on the side (mustard, paprika, anchovies). What we got back was indeed without cheese, but the extras were wrong. Fugedaboudat!!! The service was a mixed bag. Drinks were partly wrong. When two of us asked to have our coffee in the separate smoking area, a snotty waitress, who apparently didn't even know where the smoking area was (it's not upstairs!!!), refused to serve it there. Altogether, despite the fine location, this would be a place to avoid, at least, for supper, even if it were cheaper. However, it demands high prices, yet doesn't even come close to the quality that ought to buy. read more

I cannot review the food because we were kicked out before ordering. My guest and I had coffee in to-go cups when we arrived at Motto am Floss. One server brought us menus which we studied in preparation to order. A second server then approached the table and scolded us for bringing in outside beverages, which apparently were absolutely forbidden because they also sell coffee. (Would the reaction had been the same if we had a water bottle with us?) The server's rudeness and the absurdity of the situation made it an easy choice to leave rather than discard our coffee and receive service from someone who had been so rude in greeting us. Grab a meal or drink next to the canal on a warm sunny day. Most of the time it's crowded so groups should reserve but for couples you can be lucky to grab a couple reclining chairs and enjoy the shade during a hot summers day. read more

The three-course lunch was reasonably priced (23 euros). The lunch menu was not fixed (a huge bonus), so we had a chance to choose from two starters, three main courses and two desserts. I have heard so much about this place and I can't believe i waited so long to try it! I went with a friend on a busy Thursday night and sat in the Cafe (upstairs) portion of Motto am Fluss. The waitstaff is incredibly nice and the atmosphere is lively and young and perfect for downtown. I like that they offer many non-alcoholic drinks and lots of non-traditional things, like their homemade basil lemonade. I chose instead the holunder syrup with soda and went for the 8 hour cooked lamb. The meat was very tender and the sweetpotato gnocchi were a great addition. The sauce gave me a bit of indigestion, but the flourless chocolate cake for dessert made it all better:) My entire meal wasn't huge in portion, but left me full my bill was under 20euros. For downtown that's a bargain. For a more romatic night out when the pockets are deeper, perhaps I will try the main restaurant downstairs, but the cafe is also located on the terrace which will be nice in the summer. read more

Really nice food in a unique modern setting on the water.The service was very good but the food even better - the bread was great then we both had the beef broth soup followed by the sweet potato gnoochi and the veal shoulder. The veal shoulder was something else, and served with a horseradish mash, so so good. read more

I've been going to Europe annually for over 20 years and have been in most of the cities. It's been difficult to find a classy restaurant that has vegan food. Motto am Fluss has had by far the best vegan meal I've ever had in Europe. As an added bonus great service and a wonderful view of the Danube. Came here twice, but more for the atmosphere. Great view of the Danube but the food is just average. Coffee wasn't great nor was the pain au chocolate (which I heard so much about). The service is average too, they forgot my main dish and I waited a long time but it never came. I never got charged and they offered to make it quickly but I passed. Nice place to sit if your a tourist but don't expect amazing food. read more

I was recently in Vienna and was tired after a wonderful day of site-seeing, and needed a nice place to sit and wait for our bus back to our river cruise ship. We sat down and immediately Eva came over and she burst out laughing when I asked "Do you serve beer?" She was delightful and we got our beer, which was great, enjoyed the view until we had to leave for our bus.
