This is my absolute favorite place to grab lunch from in Boise. When I moved to Boise just about two years ago, this was one of the first places I tried for take out and it has become one of the only restaurants I've returned to more than once. I love their paneer - the paneer mahkani is my personal go-to order. The tibetan fried noodles are also really good. I enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant when I pick up (having a sit-in lunch next time I have friends over to visit is on the to-do list). I have never had to wait past the expected pick up time (and more often than not, it was already prepared for me if I came a bit early too). read more

Came in hoping for a quick takeout and didn't want the usual chain junk food. Walked in with no real knowledge or experience with this type of food. I believe the owner was there and he was very kind and helpful, he told me what was popular because I had never been in. I decided on the Chili Chicken Curry with Samosas on the side. Everything is cooked to order but my food came out quick! It was perfectly seasoned and spicy (as per the owners recommended spice level), and the samosas were super tasty and crisp on the outside. This place used to be amazing. I got takeout today. It was clearly an order by someone who likes Indian food. It had no flavor. No coriander, no mustard seed no cumin no ginger no chili no nothing. I've been to other Indian places and they ask how spicy and I want it fragrant and then they just throw Chiles in so I'm wary of doing this review because you shouldn't throw Chiles in Indian food you want a balanced. That is why you have Indian food. Please cook Indian food the right way I know you know and I'll take today is a fluke and when you do it right or raises the five stars but this needs an online review. It was so bad I had to re-cook everything and add spices. How do I do this so you make it taste fragrant like Indian food and not throw a bunch of chilies in and have it taste disgusting. I've had Indian restaurants in Boise do that before and I'm always afraid to say make it spicy because they think I mean, chilies rather than fragrant Indian spices? any food have a little heat and a lot of fragrance not a lot of heat and a little fragrance or no heat and no fragrance how do I do this? Boise is blessed ten times over to have this absolute gem. Mount Everest Momo Cafe is the one of the only places is the city you can eat Nepalese/Himalayan food. The food is authentic, the service is outstanding and honestly, the interior is a little small and dark, but I love it. It mirrors how restaurants in Nepal typically look like. I went to Nepal as a student in college and grew to love their cuisine. I had major withdrawals when returning to Boise. My boyfriend-now-husby located Mount Everest for me and I had low expectations. I thought, "Authentic Nepalese, in Boise?! No freaking way." More like, holy cow I was blown away after eating. Now, I probably order take out 6-7 times a year. On a recent visit, I began my meal with Yak Momo (steamed dumplings filled with ground yak, served with mild or spicy tomato sauce, $11.99). For those who've never tried yak, I recommend it! If even to just say you've tried it. It's much leaner than regular beef, and IMO, is more moist, sweet and tender. The Momo was steamed perfectly, I swear the entire thing nearly melted in my mouth. They were so juicy and delectable. This is a must order, for sure! For my main course I ordered Lamb Masala (marinated lamb roasted in their special clay oven and cooked in curry sauce, $17.95). Do not let the price deter you. The owners use fresh lamb meat, and lamb tends to me a little more expensive. Also, it takes a little longer to cook so to be prepared to wait the extra 10 or so minutes it takes for the dish to be done. But I kid you not, it is absolutely 100% worth the wait. The lamb falls apart in your mouth with each bite and mixes in with the masala , bursting with flavor of the spices of the Himalayan cuisine. You want to eat this dish when it's fresh though because the lamb toughens up quick if you reheat it in the microwave (I learned the hard, sad way.). Also, you gotta get few pieces of Naan (tandoori baked soft and puffy bread, $3.00/piece). It's amazing either plain or dipped in masala/curry/vindaloo. Other highlights include fantastic service. On one visit we got the cutest little waitress who was super informative and attentive. The owner of the restaurant even came out to introduce himself and apologize for the long wait time. Above and beyond outstanding customer care. Mount Everest Momo Cafe is no doubt one of my top 10 eateries in the Treasure Valley. Yet again, I drive by this place often and in the past 6 months I made myself go. While my decision to drive by for 5 years without stopping was a bad one, the decision to stop here (finally) was a really, really good one! Like clock work, right when we walk in we are always greeted by a gentleman (maybe the owner, he is there every time we visit). He is always excited to see us and is prompt with menus, drinks, and to take our order. The thing I really appreciate is his suggestions. He has never been wrong. I also love their combos because you get to try a lot of different things in one meal. I highly suggest doing a combo until you find your favorite and then when you find your favorite, order always! That is my rule-of-thumb. I can tell you everything that I have eaten but you can't really go wrong. I haven't found one thing I did not like. I think it just depends on what you are feeling. Noodles, curry, spicy, savory, sweet, filling, unique. Yes, get it all. I have never been here for dinner. My experiences have always been during lunch. The portions are just right and I often still have food to take home for dinner. Cozy space with pictures of Mount Everest and surrounding areas on the walls. Stop driving by and just go! I saw the excellent ratings for this small café, and couldn't wait to try their Momo's. I was the only one there when I entered, was greeted and seated immediately by the smiling and friendly host. The menu was extremely informative, with pictures and suggestions for the first time Himalayan food taster. I decided to try the chicken Momos, the onion kulcha, and the vegetable chau chau. The kind server/host/gentleman (owner?) suggested I try the chicken chau chau instead because it contained the same vegetables plus chicken. The chicken Momos came out very quickly with a side of sauce (which was tomato-based and had the milder sauce poured and with the hotter sauce in its center). The Momos are very much like Chinese dumplings or potstickers and I am used to a different kind of dipping sauce, but the tomato-based spicy sauce was wonderful with these delicious dumplings. The Onion Kulcha (which is naan bread cooked with onion and cilantro in it) was wonderful! And the Chau Chau, soft fried noodles with veggies and meat, were delicious and very filling. Took my girlfriend here today and not only was the food incredible but the service is exceptional we got 3 dishes all very good but at the end we told him which one we liked least and he made us a whole other plate for free just because we liked that one less than the others and the plate he brought us was delicious highly recommend will be coming back and leaving a good tip every time read more

Really yummy! Also HUGE portion for price - I got two servings out of the rice noodle soup I ordered. So great for the price! On that note, the 'soup' was not soupy at all. There was very little liquid. It was really good, tho. I hadn't had Tibetan food before - the flavor reminded me of Indian curry. It was a little more greasy/heavy than I could do on a regular basis but I would definitely eat again. Really nice guy that I ordered from on the phone, too. This indeed is a momo cafe. The momos were good. The Chao was also decent. But I wouldn't go back to eat Indian food. I would definitely visit them for momos though. The service was ok, as they have no idea how to serve. It was rushed and unorganized. The food was brought and haphazardly placed on the already empty plates when there was ample space on the table. I mean we could do that as well and we did in the end. But the place wasn't occupied. Only 2 other parties dining and one was about to leave. Anyways, it seems to be a family run place that doesn't seems to know the general nook and cranny of restaurant service. The cost of eating at this place is just like any other fine dining restaurant which doesn't seems to fit the bill with me. I haven't been to Boise in a while for work so I was surprised by this place. I love reading reviews and you can always tell which ones are made up OR another place in town is trying to dis them. Very nice discovery of asian/tibetan type cuisine. The food here is tasty, I've tried the lamb vindaloo, lamb chao chao, and the dumplings. Had to have the yak dumplings so I could get one more check mark on some esoteric "what foods have you ever eaten" list. Yak, check. (Yak tastes like a beef/chicken combo. Nothing strange here.) Being a fan of lamb, it was natural to try two lamb dishes. Asked for both very spicy, which rarely happens, and it was ok spicy here. Both dishes were very tasty, and adequate portion size. I love this place. We have eaten their food for many years and the last several have been a little bit hard to watch. Through COVID the family (owners) struggled emotionally because they were separated from their families back home and that was awful. They are such nice people. The food is incredible, MOST the time. I ordered take-out from here last night and it was super yummy! I got hit with a craving for something with loads of flavor and a punch of spice - so I started perusing Yelp for some ideas and came across this place that I had bookmarked and decided to give it a go! I called around 7:15 and placed an order for Grilled Chicken Tikka Masala (medium spice) and Naan bread. The gentleman helping me on the phone was very friendly and answered any questions I had and also gave me recommendations when I asked for them. He said that Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken are the two top-sellers there, and seeing as I was in the mood for something a bit more savory than sweet, I went with the Tikka Masala. After placing my order he said the food would be ready in about 25 minutes. I pulled into the parking lot to find this sweet little inconspicuous restaurant, that had it not been for Yelp, I might have passed by. I stepped inside to find a charming, family-owned restaurant with fellow spice and flavor-craving patrons like myself. The gentleman who helped me on the phone was waiting right by the door and greeted me with a smile and recalled my order to me. As he rang me up he said, "First time?" (I'm guessing he's the owner and that he has a great memory of the faces that go in and out of his restaurant.) We chatted a little as he finished wringing me up. The total for my food (with tip) came out to $20. On to the good stuff: The Naan Bread - so yummy! I ate a lot of it alone, without dipping it into any of the Tikka Masala (this was mostly due to the fact that I ate it in my car, but it was delicious by itself nonetheless). I am pretty confident that they make their naan in house. It was slightly charred on the outside, had a buttery taste, and oddly reminded me of a not-sweet pancake. (Strange description that I fear doesn't do this bread justice - but I really enjoyed it!) The Tikka Masala- Oooookay, the sauce is incredible. I ordered mine medium, and this was wonderful. Creamy, savory and spicy with loads of chicken in it, served with a generous portion of rice on the side. The sauce in this dish is the kind that leaves you wanting to lick the bowl clean (not saying I did this, but I sure wanted to). I have ordered from here before and normally the food is in point. Ordered my standard chicken chau chau and asked for mine medium spicy. Since this was a delivery, there's absolutely nothing I can do to attempt to eat this, as it seriously tastes like it been cooked in lye. Even ordering the highest temp Thai, my mouth has never burned this badly. There goes $27. out the window. I would hate to taste the highly spiced version. I can barely taste this food as it is. We wanted to try the Momo's again since it's been a few years since we first came here. The restaurant is located in a strip mall so do not expect much from an appearance standpoint. The inside is not great either. The place has maybe 8 tables all set in a dimly lit restaurant. The place is not the most organized or tidy place you will have stepped in. We ordered 8 chicken momo's with both the hot and mild sauce. The dumplings were cooked to order which was very nice (takes about 12 minutes). The two sauces were flavorful and accompanied the momo's very nicely. The dumplings had good flavor and the wrapping had just the right amount of bite.
