I treat this place as a place to unwind and relieve my stress of commuting on the craziest Bay Area thoroughfares 85/280/680/880/101/17. Few decades ago, we laid our dad in the ground. At that time, it was a new area. Everyone in the family had a job to do. My older siblings were dealing with finding a plot with good Feng Shui, negotiating and purchasing a family plot. Since I'm the youngest, I got to design the headstone. I remember it was a lengthy process. It took almost a year to get it installed. We have a most unique looking with Chinese motif on a specialty stone that would last for our children's lifetime. The grass was specifically maintained. I don't know where they find water during the California droughts. But they have a huge solar-panel farm behind the office. Anyway. The place is very clean and inviting. One time I had trouble finding my uncle's family plots. Silly me, I went up and down the aisles (accumulated 3 miles on my fitness app). Then, a godsend lady told me to find the plot number at the office. Ah. Thank God! I had a good exercise that day, anyway. So, I read all 16 reviews before I can sum up mine. Most of the lower rated reviews had issues with customer service. I was too young to deal with anyone in the office. Now, I'm a visitor. I still don't need to deal with a live person. P.S. Visiting hours change during winter. It closes an hour earlier at 5. Summer time closes at 6. No one should be at the cemetery after dark.

Organizing a funeral is something hopefully you won't have to do too many times in your life. Nonetheless, you expect some empathy, compassion and professionalism at such a stressful time. This is a tale of two mortuaries since we had to ship our mother's body to another location where the funeral was going to be held. Joe Lima, in particular, is a snake oil salesman. I thought we were there to talk about my mother but instead, Joe Lima spends over an hour talk, talk, talking about how he can never retire as he is paying (2) ex-wives. Lucky them - they escaped! Starting at the beginning, it was morning when our mother died and we waited for several hours for the mortuary to come and pick up the body which ended up being after 9am. When it came time for the costs to be tallied, there was an extra charge ($345) since the mortuary said they had to 'call' staff to pick up the body with a second attendant? The response - 'well we still had to call someone to come early' was the answer. I guess you can only die between 10-5pm if you don't want the 'additional' charge added on. The stock standard charge was ($2995) just to start the process. Joe Lima, while loving to talk, did not like you to ask clarifying questions. Said he couldn't adjust any of the costs or 'the boss' would get angry. I thought he was the boss - his name is on the billboard or maybe Joe Lima works for the mob. Yes, it is a business and all businesses need to make money however it felt like buying a used car while all these additional costs are added onto the form without understanding what they are and questions are stymied. Joe then goes in another room to add it all up - sign here! While I was waiting for new bank checks to arrive to render payment, Joe Lima chased me down, sent harassing emails and threatened me with collections - all this before my mother was in the ground less than 2 weeks. In comparison, the other mortuary we used received the body, the coffin, dressed mother and put on her make-up, delivered the coffin to the church and the burial service on separate days, organized the flowers etc and still cost less than Lima Mortuary. All questions answered and payment were professional. E-signature requested to finalize payment after services rendered. Perhaps people are not dying fast enough for Joe Lima to keep up his alimony payments if has to harass and threaten customers for payment under 30 days. For the services rendered it was a complete sham and the behaviour of Joe Lima honestly was a disgrace. By the way Joe, get some cuff links or at least button up your cuffs. The loose cuff unbuttoned look is tacky at best. There are plenty of excellent mortuaries in the Bay Area. If you have a choice do not use this mortuary.

Well, from my very first call (when my husband started hospice). I had no clue what I was doing, or what to ask, but Vince was professional, compassionate, and informative. He gave me pointers on how to purchase a burial plot, and offered additional helpful tips. As we ended the call he offered "Call me anytime with questions - even if you don't select us." Who does that?! Lima-Campagna-Alameda does! (I love that they truly are Family Owned) I'd looked at other funeral homes and then met with Angelo (also at Lima) - with my friend in tow. He was equally warm and helpful, and we even managed to share some laughs (thanks to my friend). And after seeing their facilities, the decision was made. Yes, it was a funeral home, but it just felt "right." Very warm and soothing (I know that sounds weird!). Hubby passed much sooner than expected, but we ended up making the final arrangements with Vince (Angelo was sad he couldn't be there that day!). I had taken their advice about finding a plot, and purchasing a casket. They saved me literally thousands of dollars (no joke!). Mind you, funerals ain't cheap - and Lima is not the cheapest (they're definitely not the most expensive either!), but they got us through the whole process as smoothly and painlessly as possible. And I never once felt like I was being nickel-and-dimed to death (can't say the same for some other mortuaries). They don't even make you pay to play your own slide-show/music on the big screen TV during visitation. My husband's funeral was yesterday and it was absolutely perfect in every way. We'd emailed a recent pic to them, and they did an amazing job of making him look very natural. While I hope to not do business with them again (at least not anytime soon!), I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to Vince, Angelo, and the team at Lima-Campagna-Alameda Funeral Home!

Stephanie was efficient in handling the communication via email and we flew in and let her in person today to pick up the death certificates. I'll write more after the memorial service later this week. They definitely encourage using the chapel for 200 guests and it's fairly expensive but hey, what a great business this is since everyone has to deal with the death of a loved one. It's definitely a low key hustle which I totally respect. It's extremely overwhelming when you are dealing with grief but it has to be done so let the experts here help you through it. They seem to really care and are very sympathetic!

There were multiple moments where information was not aligned between what was discussed and what was delivered, which created unnecessary stress during an already difficult time. For a service that families rely on during moments of grief, empathy, clarity, and reliability are essential. We did not feel supported or confidently guided through the process, and that was very disappointing. The owner and the tall gentleman helping were good - we have no complaints with them. I hope Chapel of Flowers takes this feedback seriously and improves their communication and coordination, because families deserve much better care during such sensitive moments.
