If you're coming from NYC or Boston, Mount Snow is the most bang-for-your-buck mountain in Southern Vermont. It strikes the perfect balance between high-speed efficiency and classic East Coast après vibes. The Mountain: 86 Trails of Pure Variety With 86 trails, there is a clear "mood" for every face of the mountain. The Main Face: Where the Bluebird Express (the famous six-pack bubble chair) lives. It's 66% intermediate, making it a "blue cruiser" heaven. North Face: Hit this if you want the steep stuff and glades. It's where the expert terrain hides. Carinthia: 100 acres of pure terrain park. Even if you don't hit jumps, riding the lift over this area to watch the pros is a show in itself. When to Visit Go: Late January through early March for the best snow. Mid-week is the "pro move" to avoid the Epic Pass weekend crowds. Avoid: Holiday weekends. The lines at the Bluebird can get brutal. The Logistics: Fireplaces & Live Music The Vibe: For that classic lodge feel, head to the Grand Summit Resort or the Fireplace Lodge. There is nothing better than thawing out your boots by a massive stone hearth. The Party: You haven't truly "done" Mount Snow until you hit Cuzzins. The live music here (look for local legend Bruce Jacques on Saturdays) is electric. It's loud, high-energy, and the quintessential "dancing in your ski boots" experience. The Mandatory Pitstop: Vermont Country Deli Do not--I repeat, do not--drive back south without stopping at the Vermont Country Deli in Brattleboro. The Order: Get the Mac and Cheese. --To ski for one day on a Sunday with lift tickets and rentals was $500. The lift tickets were $350 and the rentals were $150. --Once I got past the sticker shock, we had a great day of skiing. Most of the trails were open, and the conditions were amazing. The staff at the mountain were all very helpful, friendly, and professional. The mover vans were convenient, taking us from the lodging to the mountain. They run every 15 minutes like clockwork. --Speaking of sticker shock the food at the mountain is very expensive, like ridiculously expensive. Six dollars for a 12 ounce bottled water! $8.50 for a waffle with some chocolate syrup on it? Even the 'authentic' NY pizza is $10 a slice and the slices are small and don't even really look like NY pizza. --The saving grace with the food would definitely be the macaroni and cheese, and they have many versions: like Pesto!. It comes out hot in these giant skillets. Definitely the winner if you're eating on the mountain, but I would suggest bringing your own food and water or else you're going to get fleeced. --Although the skiing and food were very expensive, the experience was worth it, and we will definitely be returning. --FYI-People from Vermont are super nice and helpful. Our time at Mount Snow was a blast, especially snow tubing and hanging out around the main base area. The resort has plenty of spots to grab food and relax, and the fire pits make it easy to chill with friends and family between runs. The mountain itself is beautiful, and even when the place was busy it never felt overly crowded. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly, helpful, and easy to chat with. Great for Beginners, but Mixed Experience for Advanced Skiers As someone still learning to ski, I personally loved Mount Snow! The green trails were enjoyable, and I felt comfortable progressing at my own pace. The staff did a great job maintaining the trails and keeping things organized. However, my boyfriend and our more advanced friends weren't as impressed and said they likely wouldn't return if it weren't included on our Epic Passes. I will admit that chairlift lines were pretty long and a decent amount of our day was waiting on line. The layout of the lots and shuttle schedules can be a bit confusing as well. However the main lodge I enjoyed as you didn't have to take flights of stairs to get to the bathrooms! There was also a giant roaring fire which was nice to warm up next to. One major downside on the greens was seeing more experienced riders straight-lining and taking out newer skiers, which was scary to watch. That said, I really appreciated the staff actively catching these reckless riders and removing them from the mountain. Overall, a great spot for beginners, but more advanced skiers might find other mountains more appealing. read more

Good mid-sized East coast resort, the first bigger mountain in the south of Vermont that folks from MA, NY and NJ make it to, which adds to its appeal. Good beginner to mid skill mountain, a little icier and snow was good due to a few days of snowfall before I visit, but they had a good 100" snowpack in the season this year. The mountain can get windy which closed some lifts on the days we were there, which made for 1+hr waits on the remaining lifts, and the facilities are a little aged, but generally not too expensive with purchased tickets and classes ahead of time. If you have an Epic pass, it's even better deals for you. Blue courses on the back side and shoulder are best for fewest people, the main lifts can take some time to get up and onto the mountain particularly when windy and only a couple lifts end up open. Parking wasn't too bad - $20 for a semi-near lot (B/C on holidays/weekends) or free (D/E/F) for the farthest lots. Lot A was more expensive, but close(r). It does get packed, but there's a nice drop off line for the ski school - get there early though as checking in and getting equipment can cost some time and they don't always wait for the group for long. For those of you with your own gear, get your tickets ahead of time. The line at the ticket counter was long! Waffle Cabin was a hit with a chocolate drizzled Belgian waffle ($8) after the runs, but the rest of the food options were more expensive than at the airport...$10 slice of pizza makes NYC pricing look reasonable, and the hot mac & cheese ($9 small, $17 medium) was expensive but delicious. Free bag check if you get there early - it gets full quickly during the day! Bathrooms on the main floor were always busy; the basement ones were better, less of a crowd but more of a roundabout way to get to them. On a warm day, some puddles, so watch out. Plenty of bars though some don't open early so the line to get into one of them was from the door to the ski shop! Saw lots of people skiing down with beer cans in hand as they cheered on their newbie friends. Yes, some folks still careening out of control down the mountain - particularly on the Long John run, so watch out. Saw a few people crash and end up in the trees or get carted down the mountain, a risk of being out there. They also have one of the best terrain parks in Carpathia, lots of people talking about the giant pipe and great ski and snowboarders practicing there in line at the end of the day. Is the best mountain I've been on for newbies vs beginners? Some courses, yes. They do have a good mix of East Coast blue and black courses to challenge those who are newer and grow in skills. It is all too easy to drop a lot of money if you don't get a deal, though, $139/kid/day or $189/adult/day for a lift ticket at the mountain without discounts (get your tickets online ahead of time for a discount or through ticket brokers), and rentals are cheaper off-mountain (go to a shop nearby). And the weather can be great - 30° warm and the lifts all open and few lines, or it can be 30-40mph gusts, limited lifts, and long lines... a bit of a crapshoot! My second time skiing at Mount Snow; both times I purchased a multiday Epic Pass, so visiting Mount Snow was part of the trip to Vermont. On this trip my friend and I were leaving Londonderry and going to end up at his house in Western Massachusetts, so Mount Snow was on the way. Parking at Mount Snow is relatively easy, there are plenty of lots around the base area; there is a bit of a walk from the drop off area to the main lodge and the slopes. The main lodge is well set up, the ceilings are a bit lower than most ski lodges, but getting set up works well; I did appreciate that they have a free bag check to keep things from getting messy. Once you are ready to go the main lift is an easy walk away. We had our Epic app on our phones which works quite well with the sensors at the entrances to the lifts, plus it gives you the option to track your day skiing. Mount Snow is not the biggest ski resort in Vermont, but it does ski big since most of the lifts go all the way to the top giving you some nice long runs. Navigating the mountain is not too hard, there are 4 distinctive areas, the Main Face, North Face, Sunbrook and Carinthia. The Main Face is the largest area with the longest runs, mainly Blue intermediate runs, primarily cruisers with some nice runs. Sunbrook is the backside of the mountain, it can be a bit hard to get to since it is a bit uphill from the Main Face summit; there are a couple of really fun winding runs that provide a different feeling and a nice change of pace. The North Face is mostly Black Expert runs, steeper and more challenging, with older lifts; this is where you go to really challenge yourself. Finally there is the Carinthia area which is one of the largest series of parks for those who really want to have fun on jumps, rails and other X style adventures; fun to watch, but not my type of skiing. The day we were there had a number of issues; due to the low snow base only about 70% of the runs were open plus once we got to early afternoon it started raining. Despite these issues we did have a very nice and fun day of skiing. Mount Snow is not the most challenging ski area in Vermont, but it does provide a nice variety of runs; there is plenty of interesting runs and the multiple terrain parks were some of the best I have seen. Mount Snow's southern Vermont location puts it closer to much of the East Coast's major cities, it is well worth a visit and can provide a great day of skiing or boarding. read more

I feel helpless as I'm forced to watch the world of winter sports become more insular and elitist by the day. This insidious death spiral is easily observed at Mount Snow - Where the lift tickets are priced exorbitantly & the clientele are as snobbish & ill-mannered as they come. There is no joy or accessibility here. No glimmers of the ski-bum culture (that shaped & defined this whole industry) remain. Sliding over slush & ice for a few hours costs $150. There are no half-day tickets. The lift lines are mayhem. They are loosely directed by young, grumpy, & probably underpaid lifties who rely on a messy system of self-governing to get folks on chairlifts in a fair manner. It doesn't really work. The other riders & skiers on the slopes were notably rude. I noticed a lot of "get out of my way" & "holier than thou" attitudes (despite minding my own business & taking up a respectful amount of space on the mountain). I have been snowboarding for a very long time. No matter where I am or what the conditions are, snowboarding still exhilarates me. I'm still grateful for every opportunity to get outside. That being said, I feel pessimistic for the future. The monopolization of the industry & the sequestering of resources/space for only the affluent will eventually decimate the world of winter sports. Honestly thought everything was great! Rentals were in top notch quality and I didn't even wait in line long. Staff were super friendly and kind. Had a friend who took lessons and said the instructors were super nice and friendly as well, but probably wasn't worth the price as she still struggled with skiing after. The lifts were well maintained and cared for by lots of staff, so the wait time was not long. The only thing I was caught off guard by was the 20% off discount for food (from the Epic pass) does not apply everywhere on the resort. Not a super big deal but something to be aware of. Would say the pizza and fries were surprisingly tasty and crispy compared to other ski resorts we've been to. read more

Weather conditions were clear one day and foggy cold the next. Nice views. Not many lifts were open when we came (early mid- December) but decent enough that we were able to go up the mountains. We went early in the week (Monday to Thursday) which was lovely because no crowd. We had the space to practice and get used to the mountains again after last season. Another negative experience with Veil Resorts and Mt Snow! Honestly, it's no surprise that both Veil Resort and the Epic Pass are a total mess, but what's even worse is that apparently, everything is my fault! Strong winds? My fault. A broken lift and hour-long lines? Yep, my fault too. Reoccurring issues with logging in? Of course, that's on me as well. But don't even get me started on losing a plastic pass card--if someone used it, suddenly it's a conspiracy against Veil Resorts. Forget about customer service--good luck with that. All calls are outsourced, and anything beyond a basic login issue? Good luck. There's no one with any power to actually fix anything, and if you happen to email comments@veilresorts.com, prepare to be ignored and rerouted to the same person, over and over again. In my case, Peter MacDonald at Mt. Snow. Seems like avoiding customers is part of the strategy at Veil Resorts. Instead of putting all this energy into dodging issues and ignoring customers, maybe try fixing the lifts and improving the mountain experience? If you have any chance to avoid the Epic Pass, do it. We stopped by for a day of skiing and had a great day. It's been awhile since I've been here but it's exactly how I remember it. This has been a weird winter all over and there has not been a lot of new snowfall this season. However, we were impressed with the level of grooming on the trails and how well they maintained the snow they had. We were fortunate to be able to come on a weekday. Hardly any lines and great skiing all day. Decent elevation means longer trails and also plenty of blue trails to cruise. I was cheated by Mount Snow. I drove a long way and Mount Snow refused to honor the ticket I bought. They said my only alternative was to pay the full $129 for a new ticket Details: I bought a one day epic pass. I called see if I could go to both Okemo and Mount Snow on my pass. It was clearly explained to me: the 24 hour clock starts the first time you use the lift. I can start my ski day at 1:00 pm at Okemo then, the next morning, ski until 1:00 pm at Mount Snow. The information I was given turned out to be incorrect. The customer service counter at Mount Snow acknowledged that I was told I could use my pass but that I was misinformed. Liana attempted to resolve the problem but her boss refused to budge. She said I must pay $129 to cover their error. I called Epic Pass support. They also acknowledged that I had been misinformed but refused to make good. read more

So disappointed with Mount Snow. I had a complaint last year when my family of five went skiing for my daughter's birthday. Was told all lifts were open when I called. Paid a lot for lift tickets, hotel and rentals. When we got there (after a long drive) only one lift was open, it only went 1/2 way up, and was black diamond/too advanced for my child - not to mention it was over an hour wait to go up. All I was told was that the lifts froze and that I could not get a refund or lift ticket for another day. I subsequently sent an email asking what actually happened and to share my displeasure. The ski lift actually slows down when people get off which is nice as not many places do that and then it's chaos they also had a lot of food and drink options around the mountain and the rentals were nice to use while on the mountain. Great mountain with lots of different trails for different skills. They have lots of great amenities such as a free bag check and tons of rental lockers. Parking usually isn't an issue, unless you come on a holiday weekend. Even then, if you come early enough, you'll find a spot. No need to pay for preferred parking. There's also a ton of food options in the main lodge. The food isn't terribly expensive. Our favorite was the burritos. The beer spot, Canned, offers a ton of local canned (hence the name) beer. They also have a waffle cabin, which is necessary after a long day of snowboarding. One tip though: if you come here on a busy weekend and want to book lessons, make sure to book far in advance. I didn't realize how packed it would be and tried to get a lesson for my son. They were booked solid for the whole weekend! Lesson learned for the future. read more

After visiting Mount Snow, I fell in love with winter sports even more! My friends and I drove all the way up to Vermont from NYC because some of us have never been to Vermont and really wanted to get in a last snowboarding session before the season ends. Parking spots fill in quick so you'll want to get to the resort by 8am to secure a spot.. rental lines, compared to a lot of other resorts are amazing and very efficient! My friend once waited 2 hours at a resort..we only waited 30 min max here so it was a huge upgrade for us! It's also super cost efficient so you don't have to worry about breaking the bank. Mountains are huge and non crowded so you can rest assure you'll have all the space you need to practice! Snow is super powdery and non icy on most days as well. Ski lifts have covers that make you feel more secure and employees are much nicer ! By far my favourite mountain on the east coast so I can't wait to return! read more

We came on a 3-day weekend. Friday was nice, no lines. Saturday was packed but the workers are efficient. Rental is very easy, the workers are from all over the world and are professional and get you the right gear for your size and weight. The courses itself are pretty good and Mt. Snow has the most snow maker machines so on days where it wasn't the best the machines make up for it. It's no West Coast but I enjoy green courses and just cruising so that's good enough for me. The lessons are actually very helpful. Group lessons are $100 for 2.5 hours. Do not do the private lessons, that costs $460. Group lessons on a less crowded day essentially become private lessons. read more

Mount Snow is harassing climbers and back country skiers. If you are a climber / back country skier you should consider other ski resorts. I was climbing on the approved climbing route at 8am and got told by ski patrol the Mountain was closed for climbing. Mount Snow is my all-time favorite ski resort that I've been to so far in my life. A bunch of us meet up with my uncle and other family to ski there every year. We rent a place to stay across the road and spend all day skiing there for two or three days. They have my favorite runs and even on days where there are a lot of people, the runs are nice and long so it has always felt worthwhile to have to wait. We didn't go last year because of being unsure with Covid, but our last trip there was in Feb of 2020 right before Covid hit the U.S. and I'm sure now that things are settling, we will be back in late 2021 or early 2022! My only wish for this resort is that they'd have lights. I really love getting up super early in the morning from our stay to look out at the mountain at sunrise and going over as early as possible to ski for as long as we can. But I'd ski all night if they had lights and were open later. Still an amazing ski resort though! read more

I really, really, REALLY want to like this place. Mt Snow is a venerable ski mountain from my early ski days in the 1970s. And as the availability of good ski mountains is in peril, levying strong criticism on a ski operation is anathema to the sport. Still, my day at Mt Snow was a mix trending on the downside and with two stars, I'm being generous. I'll say that for a weekday, Mt Snow is awesome. For a weekend, you might as well ski down the ramp from the upper level of the George Washington Bridge to the Henry Hudson Parkway in rush hour. Not worth it. It is a large mountain with plenty of terrain and challenges. However, the ergonomics aren't up to par. Case in point: The Carinthia area with its many lifts and runs is an apparent strategy to get the testosterone-overflowing ski and snowboard traffic apart from the general population. Virtually all of the Carinthia runs have features. Which are vastly underused as most of the snowboard traffic takes the rest of the areas and not Carinthia. Actually, we found the best snow in Carinthia and skied there for much of the day, avoiding the obstructive features but nonetheless having a good time as the entire area had at least half the density as the rest of the resort. Much of the rest of the resort was a mess. Most of the green and blue runs were used by free-style​ skiers and boarders, who used these runs instead of the trails with dedicated terrain features in Carinthia​. As a result, out-of-control skiers and boarders were careening down the mountain on supposedly​ "green" beginner trails at top speed while mothers with young children were trying to negotiate what had become trails of snow-corn moguls between fields of ice. There was no Safety Patrol, Ambassadors, Ski Patrol nor any management presence at the chokepoints nor anywhere on the trails. I've been skiing since the early 1970s and found the conditions on the main trails as less than desirable for maintaining a safe environment. The North Face, ostensibly the area with the most challenging blues and black diamonds, was very skiable and amazingly, without the out-of-control expert skiers/boarders. The Carinthia Lodge, still new and shiny, had a superb sit-down lunch upstairs, recommended. It will be nice to come up on a weekday and see the difference. As it is, a weekend is definitely not the place to come up here. read more

I am a skier but usually save my Yelp reviews for bars and restaurants. I saw some other reviews so figured I would add my two cents for this ski resort. We visited during winter 20-21 so my review is based upon the current Covid restrictions. Sure people can complain about having to wear masks or seeing someone without a mask but I will say, the staff did a good job of gently enforcing adherence by guests and even gave out masks to people that didn't have proper face coverings. We did book a time for the lodge as we anticipated a cold day but the temperature got warmer by the time our slot arrived so we stopped in for a minute but the process was easy. Now onto the Mountain. The amount of terrain is impressive and we were able to explore all day without repeating many trails. Conditions were very favorable for fast and enjoyable skiing. Trails weren't as challenging as some other Northeast resorts but a nice variety of challenge. Lots of lifts available although the ones at the lodge had very long lines. Upper trail lifts had much more manageable wait times. Parking was adequate with an effective shuttle bus system. The staff were all helpful and friendly. Signage was good as we weren't very familiar with the mountain. Overall a fun place to ski and explore. read more

I have been a loyal patron and seasons pass holder at Mount Snow for over 10 years. I ate the food. Drank the drinks. Attended concerts and festivals. Brought friends with me every damn time. The whole 9 yards. But this year marks the year that Mt Snow died to me. I ended up having to leave the mountain without skiing (4hr round trip for nothing) because staff refused to provide me with my seasons pass. When I asked for a refund on my pass, The supervisor at the main face ticket windows was VERY rude and condescending towards me. She told me the only way I could ski that day was if I bought a $120 pass. No refunds on seasons passes. No exceptions. Nothing says customer service like telling a 10+yr szn pass holder to f*#k off! :) Shortly after this, I injured myself at work and was instructed by my physician that I can't ski this year. Applied for a refund. Once again, I am being forced to jump through hoops as vail drags their feet. They could refuse to refund me if I didn't report my injury within 30 days of injury date!!!! How pathetic. Their snow conditions have went downhill. Fewer trails open to save $$$. The terrain parks offer no variety or change from previous years. Price gouging has worsened. Their customer service is atrocious. The lodges are pathetically staffed. They have fired a majority of their senior employees to replace them with more international workers..... the list goes on. Vail resorts ruined this great mountain and is quickly killing the local economy, too. Don't waste your money at mount snow. read more

This is a fun ski resort. For western mass people from the Springfield area it's close-- only an hour and a half away versus somewhere like Killington that you tack on an additional hour. We went last Saturday and it was PACKED...long lift lines for the main lifts but what do you expect on the weekend. We did venture over to the North face for the first time-- aka black diamond trails. These are accessible trails for people like me who don't mind braving one or two black diamonds but isn't an expert skier by any means! Haha. I ended up going down all of them, and this was a nice area because it was definitely less crowded and more chill. Nice customer service and a good selection of restaurants.They also had live music last weekend which was fun. Some glades trails but nothing too spectacular. Lots of blue trails and greens but they definitely get messy and full of moguls toward the end of the day! That being said-- we have enjoyed the couple times we have gone skiing here this year. read more

After all these years, total disappointment by getting treated terribly by Pete, one of the self-proclaimed managers who is nothing more than a candy store racketeer, an impoverished mind who will never see the big picture. If he spent the time to take care of customers, he wouldn't be so frantic and unable to handle stressful situations. It would also help if he cleared out the parking lot since there were no handicapped parking spots left for us. We came with two families after setting aside what would have been a great weekend in VT and bought tickets online two weeks ago for Saturday but it was -5 at the base and with our kids sick, I called at 9:22 AM and asked it if it was okay to come on Sunday instead. They said no problem, come in Sunday to fix it. So, I go to the front, they took care of our friends and then said to go customer relations and Pete there tells me the best way to get what I want done is to buy new tickets and then come back and refund them for a snow guarantee and then apply what I bought to these tickets. He said he knew how the system works, so do it. When I went back outside and waited on line again, the young lady took my phone and told me to come back inside to a see Pete again. He tells me to come up in front (he's got my phone) and gets all sideways, tells me to get back in line and that he will no longer give me an exchange. He then claims that j must be lying. I said look up my friend's situation. Then he says that they should have done that and begins reprimanding the person who actually helped my friends and called me a liar. What kind of "manager" does this? After 40 minutes, I was then told that I could ski unless I paid $130 more. With our two families waiting, I was forced to pay, calmly reminding him that my company has a corporate relationship that he simply does not get. What on earth Mount Snow/Vail Resorts? You let a mouth breather like Pete talk to customers? I want my money back, and will get it tenfold. read more

Mount Snow is the place to go fosho. They pack a punch of pleasure through powdery pines running along each fantastically tremendous trail. There's plenty of optionality across the mountain for all friends and families to enjoy, regardless of everyone's respective skill-levels. Renting equipment here can be a bit pricey, but reasonably so. The staff working here are friendly, helpful and as accommodating as can be. The crowd is decent, few frat-stars, some elderly, few families, and a couple regular ski-extraordinaries well-known through legends of old. Overall, it's a great time here that you don't want to miss out on, even if you don't know how to shred. read more

Didn't buy a pass this year. Bought the entire family other group passes and a local mountain pass. Friends and their families did the same. All of us had been skiing at Mt Snow for several years straight. Not anymore. I doubt we are the only ones. Had repeated bad experiences at Mt Snow last year. Staff, protocol, tickets-- and it wasn't COVID related. It was because they blow. They just don't treat people well anymore and they don't operate a mountain worth paying for. We wasted a lot of money and time lugging our kids up there to be seriously disappointed and treated poorly. Story goes that Vail fired a bunch of longtime employees. Bad vibes all around the mountain from staff last year. Mt Snow blows now, not a fun place to go. They'll be ok though, they'll still have plenty of Tri Staters-- but they'll profit less this season than they would have had Vail not done such a poorly executed hatchet job on this formerly really fun mountain. I feel bad for all the great people who left and the good people who still work there. Hopefully those Colorado corporate cornballs will come around and/or get bought out sometime soon. PS I really do wonder if a lot of the recent positive reviews are real. Most of them seem very generic. They are not as specific as the negative reviews and more importantly, they don't have as much idiosyncrasy to how they're being written. They all could be from the same two or three people and they could be applied to any mountain. There are some other weird things like high star ratings and notes in the review that are negative but don't make any sense and aren't actually bad-- as if the author is seeking credibility without damaging the perception of the business. Just saying... lots of long time visitors upset with the mountain and loads of generic good reviews? Cheaper to pay for fake reviews than to run a ski mountain well. read more

I used to love skiing at Mount Snow as a kid and now that I'm a parent I bring my son and he loves it but this past weekend might be our last. The snow conditions were finally better but the mountain was overcrowded. Really really overcrowded! Dangerously overcrowded! So much so that it ruined skiing, each lift line took 45 minutes! When you finally got on the slopes you were afraid of how many people were on the runs and that you would get hit or hit someone. Since Vail took over all the changes they've made have been bad and from talking to Mount Snows long time employees no one agrees with or likes the new Managment. Vail doesn't care about safety they are over selling the mountain and people are getting hurt! I'd rather them raise prices and cap the amount of people they let on! Until something changes I'm not going back and if you care about skiing safely I would recommend you do the same! read more
